Project Size: 479 Bedrooms + 70 Communal Areas
We delivered two projects in parallel: refreshing the Cripps Hall area (including Lower Cripps) and Cavendish (Chatsworth & Hardwick Halls). The works covered multiple Halls of Residence, including student bedrooms, en-suite and shared bathrooms, corridors, staircases, and a range of communal areas – all redecorated and re-floored in time for the new academic year.
The project required new carpets and vinyl across the halls. By sourcing an alternative UK-based manufacturer, we ensured more reliable delivery, reduced costs, and cut the carbon footprint compared to the originally specified European supplier.
Keeping supply chains local is one of the ways CLC strengthens environmental sustainability while supporting the regional economy. In addition, old furniture was collected by a local charity, reducing waste and giving back to the community.
Education projects bring unique challenges with tight deadlines and strict quality standards. To meet these demands, we assigned a dedicated core team, maintained rigorous quality control on site, and carefully planned resources throughout delivery.
The refurbishments had to be completed within the summer break, requiring close coordination with the client, consultants, and hall managers. Phased planning and our ability to work effectively alongside other providers ensured smooth progress while safeguarding operatives and the campus environment.
Across both halls, we refurbished 479 bedrooms and around 70 communal areas, including a 1,250m² common room. The spaces are now refreshed and ready to welcome new students.
CLC has delivered multiple residence refurbishments for the University, as well as additional redecoration and maintenance projects outside of the main framework. This ongoing partnership continues to deliver value for the University, its students, and all project partners including consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
