MOTTISFONT ABBEY ESTATE

CASE STUDY HOTEL & LEISURE
MOTTISFONT ABBEY

THE PROJECT
Mottisfont Abbey is a historical priory and country estate, sheltered in the valley of the River Test in Hampshire. With over 350,000 visitors visiting the estate each year, the Grade I listed building was in dire need of a revamp. The project saw us complete the required redecoration works including minor repairs prior to painting the exterior of the houses, cottages, offices, and main stable block which is now a cafeteria
INNOVATIONS
We understand that the heritage of the site can attract local wildlife which is important to the surrounding ecosystem. As with many other buildings similar, we detected the presence of bats on the estate. We took careful consideration of these majestic creatures when completing the works and even removed louvres that needed to be renovated so that they could be cleaned and painted on the ground away from their habitat. We then refitted these so that they weren’t disturbed.
SOLUTION
£41K £
Our team of operatives painted away for seven months, conducting small repairs as needed to the external of the properties. One aspect of the project saw our team paint the outside of the main stable block which is now the visitor cafe. We needed to reach the upper elevation of the building which was located just below the staff offices. We initially used cherry picker equipment but soon noticed that this was disturbing the staff during their vital working hours. We then discussed an alternative with National Trust and constructed scaffolding in place of this equipment.
The venue itself is a popular venue to visit so we took extra measures to safeguard staff and visitors during opening hours. We put up metal crowd barriers around our works to provide safe passage for pedestrians to enjoy the estate. We suggested these barriers instead of typical plastic fencing which tends to be more industrial looking.

THE RESULTS
The heritage estate now has a freshened, clean look for visitors and staff alike to enjoy throughout the years to come. We received extremely positive verbal feedback from the client who was extremely pleased with the result and the professionalism of our operatives on-site. Following completion, we were awarded additional works at the nearby National Trust property; The Vyne. This project will see us transform the fire compartmentation of the roof voids within the main house.
