Thank you to everyone attending tonight, for supporting our charity ball and for your generosity and support for the Axis Foundation.

Since we last met, with your help, we have changed many lives for the better, whether that be helping a seriously ill child and their family at Demelza, or donating to small, local and impactful causes via our Foundation. You will see details of the many worthwhile causes we have funded in the following pages of this programme.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our patron Alan Curbishley, my fellow trustees Maurice Gertski, John Hayes, Mick Hayes, Tim Hayes, Joe Ibrahim and Claire Pearce, as well as the Axis support team of Paul Smart, Kellie Turner and Sarah Hodgson. All of them work very hard on behalf of the Foundation. None of what we achieve would be possible without them.

Next up is the fact that our donations to Demelza have topped the £1m mark. Again, we could not have achieved this without your generosity over the years.

And last – but truly not least – you may have heard that our founder John Hayes was this year awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours list for charitable services. We are as proud of John as he is of this recognition of our remarkable charity.

First is the news that we – with your help – have donated an incredible £3m to 430+ causes in our 16-year history. We think that is something to be very proud about.

I would also like to thank Steve Sutherland for once again expertly compering this event. Steve too has great cause to celebrate this year as he received an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours for services to football and charitable services. Congratulations Steve.

OUR COMPERE – STEVE SUTHERLAND We are delighted that Steve Sutherland is once again our MC at the Axis Foundation Charity Ball – his 9th year in the role – and as always, we thank him for kindly donating his services to us at no charge to the charity.

After a career in commercial management in football spanning almost 40 years, holding senior positions at The Football League (EFL), Swindon Town FC and three spells at Charlton Athletic FC, Steve recently took up a new role at Charlton Athletic of Club Ambassador.

Steve, who is also an Ambassador of the Charlton Athletic Community Trust, was awarded an OBE for Services to Sport in the King's Birthday Honours List.

Axis Foundation Charity Golf Day Our golf fundraiser for Demelza and the Axis Foundation was once again a great success. We presented Demelza with a cheque for £173,000.

The sun shone on our players who all enjoyed the day – and dug generously into their pockets for us.

Foundation Founder awarded MBE John Hayes, founder of the Axis Foundation, received an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours list in June for charitable services On receiving the news of his MBE, John said: “I accept the award as recognition of our team of Axis people, our trustees and patron and our generous guests at our annual fundraising charity ball and golf day.

“They have done so much to support the Foundation over the past 16 years. I thank everyone for playing such a key role in the Axis Foundation and am truly humbled by your support.”

John Hayes created the Axis Foundation in 2009 “to formalise and capture all the elements of giving that we were already doing across the company, Axis Europe”.

Since then, the Axis Foundation has donated £3m to 430+ causes.

Axis Foundation Reaches £3m Milestone in Donations

We are proud to announce that the Axis Foundation has donated £3 million to 430+ small, local and impactful causes since 2009.

From the very beginning, our vision has been clear – to give back to the communities where our parent company Axis works.

In our first eight years, we donated £1m to 110 causes and were honoured with the Corporate Foundation of the Year Award at the Business Charity Awards, our little Foundation triumphing over far larger organisations who also have incredibly successful and effective charitable foundations.

New Garden for Connor Michaela Palmer works for Axis as our Fleet Administrator. Her son Connor has cerebral palsy. He could not use their garden as it was not flat enough for his wheelchair. Our Trustees were delighted to support her to make the garden flat and accessible.

Connor said: “My wheelchair can get to every spot in the garden now so easily, I’m so grateful, it’s made such a difference having a flat surface. It was really depressing not being able to go out there and now I can use it and enjoy the sun when it shines.

“Axis and M&R [Axis’ subcontractor who laid the paving] were great; they were so professional with everything, and it was nice to have them here.”
