Prize Giving: please find enclosed in this Newsletter the Names and Acknowledgments of the Prize winners for 2012 We take this opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of these students and the support they have had from their families. We all know nothing is achieved without hard work or in isolation. End of Year Reports: These have been sent home today. If for some reason you have not received you child’s report please contact the school office immediately. CONGRATULATIONS: Miss Kyla Cameron, has accepted the position of Resource Teacher; Learning and Behaviour at Arahoe School. This is a wonderful promotion for Miss Cameron and will provide her opportunities to further develop leadership skills, gain university qualifications and to work in an area for which she has a passion. Miss Cameron has recently returned from maternity leave. Previously she has been a classroom teacher and an integral part of the Kapahaka Group since 2010. We wish her all the best or the future.

JANUARY 30 2013 IS THE FIRST DAY OF THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR! The school office re-opens on Monday 14 January 2013. Enrolments: All enrolments are taken with the Principal, Ms Pauline Cornwell. Prospectus and enrolment packs as well as appointments for enrolment can be made by coming to or calling our school office on 09 8287883. Make sure your child is enrolled before the start of 2013!

A message from the BoT Chair: Mrs Stella Gibbons As you know Ms Pauline Cornwell has accepted the Principal’s position at Papatoetoe Intermediate School. Her last day at Avondale Intermediate School will be Monday 25 February when we will hold a Poroporoaki. A Powhiri will be held at Papatoetoe Intermediate School on the 26 February 2013 and more details about this will be provided closer to the time. In the meantime the Board has appointed ‘Ahead Associates’ to undertake the appointment of a new Principal. A timeline for the appointment process will be provided at the start of the year. After Ms Cornwell leaves and whilst the appointment process is being undertaken, Miss Kathryn Eltringham, Deputy Principal, will act as the Principal, ably supported by Gareth Fletcher and the rest of the Leadership Team. If you have any questions or concerns about this matter you are welcome to leave a message with Sandra Kelland, Board Secretary, and I will get back to you. Year 7 Fun Run, Please make sure that you have the money your child raised to school before the 18 December!

Swimming Pool Keys: these are available for sale from the office for the price of $130.00 which includes a $20.00 bond to be refunded once the key is returned. The pool is open all through the Christmas holidays and until the end of Term 1 after school hours for those that purchase a key. Please contact the school office and speak to Mrs. Sandra Kelland for further information. Your final chance to purchase a pool key before Christmas will Friday 21st December.

We are pleased to announce that the MoE have approved an upgrade to our swimming pool sheds. This project started this week and whilst it may inconvenience Key Holders a little it will not prohibit use of the pool. Further information will be provided as it comes to hand. Turkey Trip Applications for 2013 – places are open for both Year 7 and Year 8 students. Application forms are available from the school office.
