Barcelona’s location on the Mediterranean coast assures a warm, welcoming climate with pleasant temperatures all year round. The city boasts more than 5 kilometres of beaches, an Olympic marina, open-air restaurants, famous stores for shopping, and many street cafes.

Absorb Barcelona’s wonderful history and bohemian atmosphere. Walk through the Gothic Quarter, one of the world’s best-preserved medieval areas, and the Ribera and Raval districts. The bustling streets and neighbourhoods can be easily explored by bus, by bicycle or on foot.
Of course, if Barcelona is famous for any one thing, it is its buildings. Take the time to admire the city’s architectural masterpieces such as the Sagrada Familia and La Pedrera, created by Antoni Gaudí and other architects, and soak up Modernisme, the city’s home-grown Art Nouveau movement and all that Barcelona has to offer.
SEVC 2017
Southern European Veterinary Conference
9-11 November 2017
Palacio de Congresos de Cataluña
AVEPA (Spanish Association for Small Animal Veterinarians), in collaboration with the NAVC (North American Veterinary Community), will again host the Southern European Veterinarian Conference - SEVC. And for the first time the conference will take place in the Palacio de Congressos de Cataluña, Barcelona, Spain on 9 to 11 November.

Since 2007, the SEVC has been building its reputation as a conference whose scientific programme provides an outstanding continuing education opportunity for veterinarians all over the world. Again this year, more than 200 lectures by more than 100 worldwide experts will cover every aspect of companion animal veterinary care from diagnosis to therapy, including specific topics such as anaesthesia, behaviour, dentistry, dermatology, practice management, emergency/critical care, orthopaedics, pain management, small animal medicine and feline medicine.
The SEVC’s mission is to present the veterinary community with the latest advances in animal care in a professional, but fun, environment. This year’s social events will include the not-to-be-missed Grand Fiesta.
Spanish and English are the SEVC’s official languages and simultaneous translation will be provided at all lectures. At some lectures, simultaneous translation into Russian and Polish will also be provided.

BACK TO BARCELONA BUT WITH NEW HEADQUARTERS!
Dear partners, friends and colleagues
If last year the particularity of the AVEPA-SEVC National Congress was its location in the beautiful city of Granada, the whims of the agenda have required us to return to the city of Barcelona for this edition. In the coming years we will continue the rotation of venues so that in 2018 we will be in Madrid and in 2019 once again in Granada. As you know, this rotation is due to the commitment that the AVEPA Board of Directors acquired at the request of the partners – to establish new venues for the AVEPA-SEVC national congress in order to bring the congress closer to other parts of Spain. We are back in Barcelona, but it is important to keep in mind that we have changed our venue. As Beethoven said, “Never break the silence unless you can improve it.” For this has been our intention, to change our headquarters to improve the congress. After several years on the premises of the Fira de Barcelona, this year the venue will be held at the Palau de Congresos de Cataluña. We leave behind a headquarters located in the centre of the city and a spectacular enclave at the foot of the Montjuïc Fountain and the National Museum of Art of Catalonia, to move to another location, a little less central although very well communicated, but with a technical quality of unbeatable facilities, which will result in a higher quality of service and comfort for the delegates.
As it has been since its inception, the excellence of the scientific programme continues to be maintained with this edition of our congress. In this way, with a distribution of up to 7 rooms with simultaneous translation, more than 120 presentations have been programmed by more than 80 speakers of international prestige that bring together in our congress up to 5,000 professionals in the sector.
To this must be added the pre-congress symposia on feline medicine, dermatology and laser therapies; the special programme for nurses, free communications and the extensive programme of practical workshops. In addition, the commercial exhibition will enjoy much more space to house more than 100 companies directly linked to the veterinary sector of small animals. With all of this, we hope that the scientific and logistical efforts to respectively offer a quality programme and effectively carry out a change of venue has been worthwhile, and lives up to what AVEPA partners and attendees deserve in general at the SEVC 2017.
So, welcome back to Barcelona, enjoy the Congress and also the friendship of colleagues in our programme of social events.

Managing cranial cruciate rupture in dogs with fusion TTA

a quick and effective method for resolving cruciate ligament ruptures in large and small dogs.

The course is a concise and detailed coverage of the Fusion TTA procedure to treat lameness induced by cranial cruciate ligament damage and comprise a balanced mix of theory, and individual practical sessions which involve both synthetic bone and cadaveric surgical procedures. Following an overview of the underlying principles which will be covered by tutorials and videos, a practical demonstration of the surgical technique is given during which questions and answers are encouraged. The practical sessions covers the pre-planning procedure to aid in the selection of the correct implant and associated instruments followed by individual surgical procedures where the delegate first practices on synthetic bone and then a cadaveric model. On completion of this course the delegate will be familiar with case selection for Fusion TTA together with the necessary information to undertake an actual procedure.

Sponsor 2017

The SEVC workshops and laboratories adhere strictly to the ethical oversight directions and approval under Spanish regulations in their use of live animals. The number of animals used is always minimal. Every effort is made to avoid situations and procedures that would cause anxiety and pain in the animals, and appropriate sedation and analgesia are used whenever necessary. No animal will be euthanised to meet the needs of any SEVC workshop.

THURSDAY 9TH DENTISTRY
Dentistry in the small animal practice. Canine and feline extractions

Broaden your practice’s services: learn to perform the most frequent dental procedures
This laboratory covers key points that will help a practitioner start a dental service or improve an existing service. In the laboratory, experts will teach dental information that will cover 70% of the services performed in dogs and cats. Also, laboratory participants, who will work in pairs on anatomical specimens using first-class equipment and instruments, will receive a copy of the Proceedings that includes additional materials. The lab will be divided into three modules. In the first module, “Diagnostic: Oral Clinical Assessment and Charting”, every participant will learn how to properly examine the oral cavity and evaluate occlusions using a chart. They will also receive a template of the dental chart and a poster with the occlusion evaluation. The second module, “Oral Prophylaxis”, will cover teeth scaling, polishing, sulcular lavage and other prophylactic applications. The goal of this workshop is to teach participants how to correctly carry out complete oral prophylactic procedures performed in 80% of dental patients. The third module, “Introduction to Canine and Feline Extractions”, will include anatomic presentations, step-by-step procedures, and surgical and non-surgical extraction standards. Participants will learn how to make extractions more easily and to avoid complications. When they complete the workshop, participants will be fully prepared to apply the dental skills they have learned.

THURSDAY 9TH EXOTICS
20 must-know tips and tricks of small mammal radiology
The radiographic diagnosis in exotic pets. Ferrets, rabbits and guinea pigs

Radiology is one of the common imaging diagnostic techniques in veterinary medicine. Radiographs provide very useful information of bones, but also of soft tissues such as lungs, heart, liver, intestine, and so on. Many clinical presentations, such as cough, dyspnea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal distension, disuria, need a radiologic examination to rule out causes and, in several cases it can confirm the diagnosis. Dental diseases are very common in rabbits and rodents, but can be difficult for owners to be detected because of the unusual clinical presentations. Skull radiographies are essential in the diagnosis of dental disease in these animals. Working in pairs in front of the computer, the participants learn how to carry out and interpret small mammal radiographies. There are a lot of anatomical references which allow discerning specific pathological changes. Furthermore, essential differences in between species will be remarked and special emphasis will be put on ferrets, rabbits and guinea pigs.
