As the long days of summer begin to shorten and the smell of freshly sharpened pencils fills the air, Avalon Park Orlando is welcoming August with open arms and a calendar full of exciting community events. Whether you are a parent getting ready for the new school year, a local foodie on the lookout for something new, or someone who simply enjoys the unique energy that Avalon Park offers, this month has something for everyone.
The excitement kicks off on Saturday, August 2nd, with the Avalon Park Foundation and Alive Church Back to School Bash at Encore at Avalon Park. This annual event is all about the community coming together to support local families. With over 500 students receiving school supplies and a morning filled with fun, resources, and encouragement, it is the perfect way to start the month on a high note. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Encore, located at 13798 Cygnus Drive.
The momentum continues into the next week as Founders Square transforms into a colorful celebration for the Back to School Carnival-Themed Night Market on Friday, August 8th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Complete with games, vendors, live music, and family-friendly entertainment, the evening is designed to send summer out in style and welcome the school year with flair.
That same night, just a short stroll away, the Avalon Park Arts & Culture Center will host a Meet the Artist Reception for its newest gallery exhibit, Wanderlust. From 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., visitors can explore artwork inspired by travel and adventure while meeting the talented artists behind the pieces. The event is free and open to the public and is a beautiful way to enjoy the cultural richness Avalon Park continues to offer.
On Saturday, August 9th, the community is invited to slow down and sip for a cause at ChariTea, a charming tea party fundraiser benefiting the UCF Knights Pantry. Held at Encore from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., the event encourages guests to bring their favorite tea cup and a generous spirit in support of college students in need.
Also debuting this month is one of the most highly anticipated openings in The Marketplace—Southern Fowl, a new Southern comfort food restaurant serving up scratch-made classics like fried chicken sandwiches, pot pies, and hearty sides. Whether you are stopping in for lunch or craving something bold and flavorful for dinner, Southern Fowl is set to become a go-to favorite for Avalon Park locals and visitors alike.
Of course, the Marketplace continues to be a hub of activity all month long. From Mahjong Nights that bring neighbors together over friendly games, to Country Music Night and Line Dancing, there is never a dull moment. This month’s Country Night promises something extra special—a chance to help create a drone video featuring the largest community line dance Avalon Park has ever seen. Boots are optional, but your best moves are encouraged.
As kids head back to class, parents and professionals can also reset their routines with the launch of Jumpstart75, a new personal training program at the East Orlando Gym. Designed to build long-term healthy habits, this program is perfect for those looking to ease back into fitness or take their training to the next level just in time for fall. Read more about it on page 9.
Throughout Downtown Avalon Park, local businesses are joining the back-to-school spirit with specials, giveaways, and community events. Whether you are shopping for supplies, grabbing an after-school snack, or celebrating the first day back with a family dinner, Avalon Park’s small business community is here to support and celebrate with you.
August is more than just the end of summer—it is a new beginning. In Avalon Park, that means fresh opportunities to connect, celebrate, and grow as a community. From the youngest students walking into school for the first time, to the neighbors gathering for music and dancing in the square, this is what it means to live, learn, work, and play—all in one place.

Avalon Park, back to school is so much more than a calendar date. It is a moment when our entire community comes to life.
I recall sitting down more than two decades ago with Orange County Public Schools leaders, asking a bold question: Could we build schools in Avalon Park the same time the homes were built—before students were even here? I was told it could not be done. Yet, I was convinced that a true community needed good schools from the very start. After all, I had heard from agents time and time again: quality education is the number one priority for families considering a new neighborhood.
So, with that determination, Avalon Park Group donated land, partnered with OCPS to fund and build schools, and supported the effort with sporting fields and band facilities. We knew a thriving community would teach by living together—not just in classrooms, but through everyday connections among neighbors.
That vision is alive today. Our design—from walkable pathways to schools and parks, to shared gathering spaces—was all created with families in mind. Children walk to Avalon and Stone Lakes Elementary, to Pinecrest Academy, Avalon Middle, and Timber Creek High, passing storefronts, green lawns, and friends. It is learning by living, every day.
The importance of partnerships continues to guide us. Through youth leadership programs, like LOVE Our Youth and the Avalon Park Foundation scholarships, we invest in our young residents. This year’s Back to School Bash, will see over
To me, the spirit of lifelong learning extends beyond children. The 5th Floor is where entrepreneurs and creatives come to innovate. The Marketplace at Avalon Park supports small business growth for all ages. The Arts & Culture Center provides creative expression. Encore offers intergenerational dialogue and care, reminding us that growth never stops when people come together in shared spaces.
Back to school season brings palpable energy: businesses offering specials for parents at the Marketplace, AMP Oral Surgery hosting teacher appreciation events, community wide school supply drives. It is tangible proof that Avalon Park is a team—not just during school hours, but in supporting parents, educators, students, and neighbors alike.
A new school year is not solely a fresh start for students. It is an invitation to reaffirm who we are: creators, neighbors, collaborators. Together, we recommit to building a community where everyone can learn and belong.
Thank you for being part of the journey. Here is to a wonderful year ahead—for our children, our teachers, our businesses, our families, and one another.
August is a lively and eventful month, marked by summer celebrations, cultural festivities, and the excitement of back-toschool preparations. As the school year begins, Encore at Avalon Park transforms back-to-school season into something meaningful for every generation. While kids pack backpacks, Encore’s halls fill with laughter, shared stories, and quality time between grandparents and their families.
Encore doesn’t treat the seasons as background noise. Its Life Enrichment team syncs events with the school calendar, offering themed activities like first-day photo ops, storytelling workshops, and mini lunchbox socials designed for residents and their families to enjoy together. These aren’t just events about kids—they’re made for them, encouraging deeper connection.
Families are capturing more of these moments, turning simple video clips into cherished memories with basic editing tools. A grandparent’s laugh or a child’s hug can become a lifelong keepsake with just a bit of polish. At Encore, these moments aren’t staged—they’re everyday magic.
Encore’s inviting environment makes staying and connecting easy. From cozy reading nooks to kid-friendly seating, the design encourages interaction. It’s all about creating real spaces where generations naturally come together and feel at home.
By aligning events with school breaks and family routines, Encore makes participation easy. Whether it’s an after-school visit or a weekend gathering, the timing feels thoughtful and accessible—encouraging more frequent, meaningful connections.
Encore’s programming turns visits into shared adventures. Whether it’s baking side-by-side, tech tutorials, or collaborative storytelling, there’s something for everyone. These activities engage extended family and make every visit feel purposeful.
At Encore, the back-to-school season isn’t about passing time— it’s about claiming it. These fall moments become something more than scheduled visits—they turn into rituals. When kids see their grandparents not as someone they visit when they have time, but as someone they grow with, laugh with, and create with, something shifts. Bonds become habits. Visits become stories. And the season becomes a little less about getting back to routine, and a little more about coming back to each other.
Discover a vibrant community where personalized care meets small-town charm at Encore at Avalon Park, and see how we help seniors live life to the fullest every day!
Starting a fitness journey can be intimidating. Not knowing which exercises to do, how to perform them, or what routine to follow often holds people back.
That’s why we created Jumpstart 75 — a program built to give you the confidence, knowledge, and structure you need to succeed from day one.
What You Get with Jumpstart 75:
1. 75-Minute Personal Training Session
Start with a one-on-one session with a certified trainer. We’ll assess your current fitness level, discuss your goals, and walk you through each exercise in your plan with proper form and technique.
2. Month-Long Action Plan
Leave your session with a personalized workout plan designed for you to follow on your own. This includes exercise routines and nutritional recommendations, such as calorie and protein goals, to help you stay on track.
3. Access to Our Personal Training Staff
Have questions while following your plan? Our personal training staff is available to guide you whenever you need support.
BONUS: Keep the accountability and encouragement going with an additional personal training session mid-month at a discounted rate of just $25.
Why These Trainings & Evaluations Matter
Establish a Baseline & Track Progress
Assessments give you measurable starting points—body mechanics, mobility, strength, and more. Without these, it’s hard to choose the right exercises or notice small but meaningful improvements over time.
Safety & Injury Prevention
Early evaluation identifies imbalances or limitations. Technique coaching teaches the right way to move, not just the movement itself. This approach reduces injury risk and ensures safe progression over time.
Education & Empowerment
Jumpstart 75 isn’t just about workouts—it’s about teaching you why they work. Trainers explain form, principles of progression, and basics of nutrition.
Congratulations Mariners! Avalon Elementary is an A school once again! We made growth in every component that makes up the school grade, increasing our total points earned by 69. This includes increased proficiency in ELA, Math, and Science and higher number of students making learning gains in ELA and Math. This achievement is a testament to the hard work of our students, teachers, staff, and YOU, our Mariner families. Your unwavering support, and the support of the entire Avalon Park community, our ADDitions Volunteers, and our Partners in Education make a huge difference.

Remember the thrill of cracking open a brand-new notebook? That fresh page feeling isn’t just for students; it’s for anyone ready to learn something new.
I still remember when I bought my first Cricut. I was so excited… and so intimidated. It sat in the box for weeks until I finally asked myself, “What’s the Cricut going to do to me?” That little moment of courage turned into a creative adventure, and that’s what back-to-school season is really about: saying yes to new beginnings, no matter your age.
Whether you’re headed back to a classroom, logging into Zoom, or finally opening that Cricut machine you’ve had tucked away, back-to-school season isn’t just for kids; it’s for anyone with a curious mind.
Learning doesn’t end at high school, it’s just the beginning of what I believe is a lifelong journey of curiosity, growth, and creativity.
For the Little Learners (and Their Grownups)
Let’s talk about our K–12 students. Whether they’re just starting kindergarten or heading into high school, routines and a positive mindset can help set the tone for a successful year. And parents, yes, you play a big part too (shoutout to all the lunch-packers, ride-givers, and homework helpers!).
Simple ways to start the year strong:
• Set up a daily rhythm – Consistent sleep, breakfast, and after-school wind-downs are golden.
• Create a “get ready” zone – Think cubby meets command center, backpacks, books, water bottles all in one spot.
• Read together daily – Just 15–20 minutes a day builds confidence and comprehension.
• Make space for creativity – Drawing, building, storytelling, it’s all brain food!

A new school year is a fresh start, an opportunity to set goals, develop healthy habits, and make the most of every opportunity. As members of the East Orlando Youth Advisory Board, we know that preparation is key to a successful year. Whether you’re entering middle school, high school, or even preparing for college, having a plan can make all the difference. Here are three essential tips to help students thrive:
1. Set Clear Goals – Take some time to reflect on what you want to achieve this year. Whether it’s improving grades, joining a new club, or stepping up as a leader, set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals to stay focused. Write them down, track your progress, and celebrate small wins along the way.
2. Manage Stress Effectively – School can be overwhelming, but learning how to handle
stress is crucial. Prioritize tasks by using a planner or digital calendar, take breaks when needed, and practice self-care through exercise, mindfulness, or journaling. Sleep is also key— aim for at least 7-9 hours each night to stay sharp and energized.
3. Stay Motivated – Surround yourself with supportive peers, seek mentorship, and engage in activities that inspire you. Find ways to stay engaged in your education by exploring subjects that interest you, participating in extracurriculars, and remembering that every effort leads to personal growth.
At the East Orlando Youth Advisory Board, we are passionate about supporting youth in our community. If you want to take your leadership skills to the next level and make a difference, consider joining us! Visit this link https:// loveouryouth.org/links-east-orlando-yab/ to learn more about how you can get involved.
There’s a quiet kind of determination that surfaces when you decide to go back to school as an adult. It’s not the same as fresh-out-ofhigh-school ambition. You’ve got bills now. Maybe kids. Maybe a job you’re trying to leave behind. Tuition is more than just a number— it’s the price of a second chance. And while scholarships and loans are fine for some, others are looking to take a more entrepreneurial path. That’s where house flipping enters the picture, not as a getrich-quick scheme, but as a real, tangible hustle that can turn worndown homes into tuition checks—if you’re strategic, patient, and just stubborn enough to follow through.
Start with a Realistic Timeline, Not HGTV Fantasy TV makes it look like you can buy a shack on a Tuesday, slap on some paint by Friday, and flip it by Sunday for a six-figure profit. The reality has more waiting, more phone calls, and more nights spent Googling city zoning codes. Give yourself a timeline that accounts for inspection delays, permit hiccups, and the time it takes to do work well. If you’re juggling school or planning to be soon, map out projects that fit into academic calendars or seasonal breaks so your education and investment don’t go to war with each other. Find Underdog Neighborhoods, Not Headlines
Don’t chase the zip codes with the flashy headlines. By the time an area is trending, the margins are already shrinking. Instead, look at nearby working-class neighborhoods with a great structure and low turnover. Check city planning maps for upcoming infrastructure projects—those often signal a slow burn of future value. You want communities that are on the edge of revitalization, not the tail end. These are the kinds of places where your sweat equity and a little vision can stretch a long way.
Partner Where You’re Weak, Not Where You’re Comfortable
If you’re not a licensed contractor, don’t pretend to be one. Bring in people who compliment your gaps. Maybe that’s a skilled handyman you trust, or a seasoned investor you can learn from. Don’t be afraid to split profits in the name of competence. What you give up in returns, you’ll gain in time, safety, and fewer costly mistakes. The smartest flippers aren’t the ones who know everything, but the ones who know what they don’t.
Think Bigger
If you’ve already dipped your feet into real estate investing and are starting to think bigger, it might be time to explore development opportunities that go beyond single-property flips. Scaling
into multi-family housing, mixed-use spaces, or community revitalization projects can open new income streams and long-term equity. When you’re ready to move from renovating properties to shaping entire neighborhoods, partnerships become essential to handling scope, permits, and financing. For those looking to collaborate with experienced developers, you can work with Avalon Park Group and gain access to projects that align with a more ambitious vision for your real estate future.
The journey is messy, which is why you need to capture it. Photos, receipts, before-and-after walkthroughs—they’re not just for memory. They’re proof of your growth, material for marketing, and a paper trail for taxes. If you ever want to leverage your flipping experience for scholarships, business loans, or even investor pitches down the line, having a visual and financial history is priceless. Plus, it’s a powerful reminder that you built your education with your own hands, one broken cabinet and late-night YouTube tutorial at a time.
If you find yourself thriving in the rhythm of flipping homes, you might want to consider an online degree program to free up your schedule and reduce the overall cost of tuition. Online programs can offer the flexibility to handle renovations during the day and coursework at night, making the balancing act between education and investment more manageable. For those interested in taking the real estate hustle to a more professional level, earning a business degree can help you sharpen your skills in accounting, business, communications, or management. Programs like the University of Phoenix allow you to learn about business risk management while actively applying those lessons to your renovation projects in real time.
Flipping houses to pay for college isn’t about glamor. It’s about grit. It’s about showing up to an empty house on a cold morning and believing that with the right work, this space—and your life— can be transformed. You don’t need to be rich, or young, or even particularly handy to start. You just need a plan, a willingness to learn, and a very strong coffee habit.

As kids head back to school, the roads get busier, and safety becomes a top concern for parents. With more children walking, biking, and riding buses, it’s crucial to be aware of school zone laws and pedestrian safety to prevent accidents.
School zones are designed to protect children, with speed limits often reduced to 20 mph or lower during school hours. Drivers must be extra cautious, watching for children crossing the street or waiting at bus stops. In addition to obeying speed limits, motorists should
always stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing, signaling that children are boarding or disembarking.
For pedestrians, walking to school or the bus stop can pose risks, especially if traffic laws are not followed. Parents can teach their children to cross at crosswalks, look both ways, and never dart into traffic.
If a child is injured in a pedestrian or bus accident, parents may be entitled to compensation through personal injury claims. Legal action can help cover medical expenses, pain and suffering, and any long-term impacts on the child’s life. By understanding the laws and taking proactive safety steps, parents can help ensure a safe school year for their kids.

Come see what’s happening this August—because at ACC, there’s always something inspiring just around the corner.
Florida continues to face a sobering reality: it remains one of the top three states in the nation for reported human trafficking cases, alongside California and Texas. According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, more than 1,830 signals (calls) were received from Florida in 2024 alone—leading to the identification of 1,874 victims. Most heartbreaking of all is that many of these victims were children.
Stranger Danger looks different today…
The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) reports that a significant number of those trafficked are minors, between the ages of 11 and 17. Our children are often targeted through social media platforms, gaming apps, and other online spaces where predators hide behind fake profiles. With the rise of digital access, traffickers no longer need to lure children off the street—they reach into their bedrooms through smartphones and tablets.
Operation Dragon Eye
In response to this growing threat, Operation Dragon Eye was launched to bring awareness, accountability, and prevention to the forefront. It is a statewide initiative focused on equipping parents, educators, first responders, and community members with the tools and training to recognize signs of trafficking and intervene before a child becomes a victim.
Operation Dragon Eye is not just about enforcement—it’s about education and early intervention. By teaching adults what to look for and how to act, the initiative aims to create a network of everyday protectors who can disrupt trafficking at the community level, like you!
Why Parents Matter More Than Ever Traffickers often rely on one thing: silence. Parents play a critical role in breaking that silence by having open, honest, and frequent conversations with their children about online safety, boundaries, and the risks of manipulation by strangers or even acquaintances. Knowing who your child is talking to, setting healthy digital boundaries, and modeling safe online behavior are more than parenting tasks—they are acts of protection.
Here’s what you can do today:
• Educate Yourself: Learn the red flags of grooming and trafficking. These can include sudden changes in behavior, unexplained gifts, secrecy around online activity, or a new “friend” who seems overly interested in your child.
• Engage Your Child: Keep open lines of communication. Create a safe space where your child feels comfortable talking to you about anything—without fear of punishment.
• Prevent and Protect: While respecting privacy is important, so is safety. Using parental controls, having conversations and regularly check in on your child’s apps, chats, and friend lists.
• Join Community Efforts: Learn more by attending local training sessions or community forums. You’ll gain insights and tools that could one day save a life.
• Be Bold, Save a Life: Want to learn more on how to have this conversation with your kids? Paving the Way Foundation hosts Parent Educations Forums throughout the city. You can learn more here, https://www.pavingthewayfoundation. org/programs.html or follow us on social media to find out where we’ll be next.

Human trafficking isn’t just something that happens “somewhere else.” It’s happening in our neighborhoods, schools, and communities. But together, we can turn the tide. Operation Dragon Eye reminds us that awareness is our greatest weapon and that the eyes and ears of parents are the front line of defense.
Your watchful eye could be the reason a child stays safe.
Avalon Elementary Thanks UFIFAS Extension Orange County
Thanks to UFIFAS Extension Orange County for their donation of a mango and a starfruit tree as well as a fresh load of compost from Froot Farms. Froot Farms is a family owned and operated nursery in Christmas. We are excited to expand into fruit trees this school year!
Goodwill Industries of Central Florida is celebrating a massive turnout for its annual summer food drive. This June, the nonprofit teamed up with WFTV 9 Family Connection to collect nonperishable food items for Annabel’s Closet. The Seminole County organization provides furniture and other household essentials to survivors of domestic abuse. Members of the community donated more than 8,000 pounds worth of food which will benefit around 2,000 people.
Local families are better prepared for the upcoming school year, thanks to OUC – The Reliable One. This July, the utility delivered approximately 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to Florida Virtual School (FLVS) students. A group of more than 80 volunteers made up of OUC employees, their loved ones and FLVS team members assembled the donations during an event on June 28. They also stuffed around 1,000 summer fun packs with items such as chalk, jump ropes and sunscreen before distributing them to eight neighborhood centers in Orlando and St. Cloud.
An aging parent or grandparent. An older sibling without children. A spouse with long-term health problems. If you have a loved one who’s getting older, chances are you know what it’s like to be a caregiver – and you’re far from alone. USAging estimates that 53 million people nationwide look after an older adult, or someone with an illness or disability.
Florida has one of the largest populations of adults 65 and older in the entire country, and it’s likely most of those residents are, or one day will be, in need of a little extra assistance. In Central Florida alone, Senior Resource Alliance (SRA) helps more than 300,000 older residents and their caregivers every single year, many of them from lowincome families.
The burden falls disproportionately on women, who make up more than 75% of all unpaid caregivers. With a median age of 50, they tend to be in what’s called the “sandwich generation”: adults who care for both their parents and their older children or grandchildren, making it harder for them to prepare for their own retirement.
This summer, it’s important to remember that caregiving is a labor of love, but it’s also hard work. Depending on the extent of your loved one’s needs, it might mean spending weekends helping to mow the lawn, drop off food, or help file taxes … or spending every waking moment providing full-time assistance with bathing, dressing, preparing meals, helping with personal care and other necessary tasks.
All of that can add up to a full-time job that can be physically exhausting, emotionally draining, and financially stressful.
As Florida’s population gets older, it’s more critical that we think about the long-term sustainability of home caregiving and invest in programs that support both seniors and
their families. And RELIEF – available in Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Brevard Counties – aims to do just that.
Operated through the Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation, RELIEF matches pre-screened and trained volunteers with families who are unable to afford caregiving assistance. In the last year alone, RELIEF provided more than 4,000 hours of respite care to families in need with a team of just over 20 volunteers.
The volunteers can’t provide traditional services like meal preparation or bathing, but they can keep the older adult company for up to four hours – allowing family members a much-needed break. And whether it’s an afternoon to run errands or a guilt-free evening out, a little respite makes a big difference.
If you’re a caregiver, remember that it’s okay to ask for help not just this summer but year round. From support groups and one-on-one counseling … to daycare and respite care, SRA can connect you and your loved one to the right resources in your community – with a variety of free and low-cost options designed to meet your household’s needs.
And even if you’re not currently in need of assistance, you can still be part of our effort to create a community where people of all ages can live vibrant, independent and healthy lives: RELIEF is one of many senior-focused programs in need of volunteers, and every bit of support makes a big difference.
If you’d like to find out more about RELIEF and programs like it, don’t wait: Go to www.seniorresourcealliance. org online or call the statewide Elder Helpline at 1-800-96-ELDER(35337).

This morning, a friend and community partner, Ricky Ly of Tasty Chomps, posed a thought-provoking question on his Facebook Group: Orlando Foodie Forum Presented by Tasty Chomps: How do we encourage the creation of more Third Spaces in this city/county/community?
To be honest, I had never heard the term “Third Space” before. But as I read Ricky’s explanation—a place that is neither home (our “first space”) nor work or school (our “second space”), but somewhere in between where people can gather, relax, and connect with others—I realized that the idea was deeply familiar. These are the places where we connect, gather, laugh, learn, and build community. They are the “living rooms” of our neighborhoods, and in many ways, Avalon Park was built on the principles of creating those very spaces.
After replying to Ricky’s post, I found myself thinking: Maybe not everyone realizes just how many third spaces already exist right here in Avalon Park. And if we do not talk about them, how will others know how to engage with them, or more importantly, help shape what comes next?
We are fortunate to have a community designed for connection. From the Marketplace at Avalon Park, where you can listen to live music, play a game with the family, grab a bite, and stay awhile, to the Arts & Culture Center, which brings people together through creative expression, to Encore at Avalon Park, where generations mingle and stories are shared. Add to that the Pavilion, seasonal festivals, community events, and more than 150 businesses in our downtown core—
all places where, while they may not all be designed for hanging out, you are still likely to be greeted with a smile and a warm welcome.
Then there are the informal third spaces—the kind that spring up out of need and community initiative. The cricket matches, kids kicking soccer balls, pickup volleyball games on an undeveloped lot, evening strolls in our parks—these aren’t just activities; they are how neighbors become friends.
But even with all of these, I believe we still have room to grow. What we are missing are more spaces where we can be active together, intentionally and often. Spaces that invite connection through movement, creativity, and shared purpose. And the good news is, there is energy in our community to make that happen.
We are starting to rally a group of residents and neighbors who want to help bring more of these third spaces to life—especially here in East Orlando. If this sparks something in you, we would love for you to join us. Please reach out to info@avalonparksun.com to get connected and help shape what comes next.
What is your idea of a Third Space?
What would you like to see in Avalon Park that is not already here?
And how can we be more welcoming, more intentional, and more loving neighbors to one another?
This conversation is just beginning—and it starts with you.
The Reliable One hosted a Youth Energy Academy interactive experience for local students to learn about a career in the utility industry. Approximately 65 students visited OUC’s Gardenia Innovation and Operations Center to participate in a series of hands-on learning exercises, including a mock hurricane simulation and a drone demonstration.
We see it every year—the moment those Florida temps hit the 90s, air conditioners across town start working overtime. If your home isn’t cooling like it used to, your system might not be broken... it might just be overworked. The good news? There are a few things you can do right now to help it run better—and make your space a whole lot more comfortable.
Here’s what we tell our customers at DC / AC Air and Heat:
1. Change Your Filters—Seriously
It sounds basic, but dirty filters are one of the top reasons systems get bogged down in the summer. A clogged filter blocks airflow and makes your unit work harder than it should. We recommend swapping them out every 1–3 months, depending on your home, pets, and dust levels.
If you’re not sure what size you need—or you just haven’t done it in a while—let us know. We’ll check it during your next tune-up.
2. Check the Outdoor Unit
That big metal box outside your house? It needs space to breathe. Grass clippings, leaves, and even mulch can block airflow and throw off your whole system. Take a few minutes to clear the area around it, and gently hose it down if it’s looking dirty.
Still not cooling right? We can take a closer look. Schedule a service call and we’ll handle it.
3. Seal Those Air Leaks
We’ve walked into plenty of homes where the AC was running nonstop—and it turned out the cold air was leaking into the attic or out through poorly sealed ductwork. If your home still feels warm even though the AC is running, you might have a
leak somewhere.
We offer full system inspections and can spot issues you might not see on your own. Click here to book a quick diagnostic.
4. Adjust Your Thermostat and Use Fans
You don’t always need to drop the thermostat to 68 to feel cooler. Using ceiling fans to circulate air can help you feel cooler at higher temps, and programming your thermostat when you’re away saves your system some strain.
We install and calibrate smart thermostats, too—just let us know if you’re ready for that upgrade.
5. Don’t Skip Your Annual Tune-Up
We get it—life’s busy. But skipping regular maintenance is like driving your car for years without changing the oil. A quick once-over each year helps us catch small problems before they snowball into major repairs.
Our full HVAC check-up includes inspecting refrigerant levels, cleaning components, tightening connections, and making sure your system is working as efficiently as possible. Schedule yours today so you’re not caught off guard during peak summer heat.
We’re Here When You Need Us
At the end of the day, your AC system should work with you— not against you. A little attention now can save you money, stress, and a lot of sweat later.
If your system’s not keeping up or just doesn’t feel right, don’t wait. DC / AC Air and Heat has been keeping Florida homes cool for over 30 years—and we’re ready to help whenever you need us.
