Whittle’s at Binswood is located in the town of Royal Leamington Spa in the heart of Warwickshire just two minutes from the Regency Shopping Parade. Royal Leamington Spa is best known for its natural spa springs which were popularised in the 19th century. The town was granted a ‘Royal’ prefix in 1838 by Queen Victoria who had visited the town more than once. In the northeast of the town centre lies a plaque commemorating the Midland Oak, a tree thought to mark out the centre of England. The town also contains a high number of video game developers and other tech businesses which have garnered the term “Silicon Spa”. Popular food items include rock cakes (an invention of the Second World War), Hook Norton Brews and Moores Gin (the only Warwick handmade gin).
Whittle’s at Binswood is a historic site in its own right. In a former life, the Victorian building -designed in the Tudor revival style- was a grammar school, Leamington College for Boys founded in 1848. Many buildings were added to the grounds in the late 1800s, including a gymnasium and a chapel. Not far from Binswood Hall lies the Victorian Jephson Gardens. The gardens contain a spectacular Chelsea Flower Show gazebo and glasshouse with many tropical plants. Jephson Gardens is part of a suite of gardens along the River Leam that are all Grade II listed on the English Heritage register.
