The Montfort’s opulent dining hall -once a boarding school- now delights guests with contemporary, seasonal dishes. The cosy, woodpanelled interior of the main dining hall is the perfect setting for important business meetings and our bright bistro welcomes bubbly party guests regularly.
The Montfort at Stanbridge Earls is a Tudor manor house that oozes British history. Once a boarding school, glimpses of its original purpose can be seen in the warm, wood walls and ornate fireplaces. The Montfort’s private room is ideal for business meetings where calm surroundings are desired. Our culinary team will delight your guests with dishes crafted from local produce and fresh farm cuts. In the main dining hall, enjoy the best of British cuisine framed by spectacular woodland views. Our light and airy bistro is ideal for canape receptions or business lunches and in the summer months, the terrace is available to host family barbeques.
The Montfort at Stanbridge Earls is located near the market town of Romsey in Hampshire. The town has a long history with the first church built in 907AD for the first abbess of Romsey. In the town centre stands a statue of 19th-century British prime minister, Lord Palmerston, who once lived there. Situated along the River Test, the town is popular for fly fishing and attracts hundreds of trout fishermen each year. The watermills that would lead to industrial production in later centuries were first recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. The town grew steadily in the following years until the Black Death decimated the population in 1348. In the 19th century, the town became known for its 80 pubs and fine brewing establishments. This tradition is celebrated annually to this day at the Romsey Beer Festival in Crosfield Hall.
The Montfort at Stanbridge Earls is a historic monument and Grade II listed Tudor manor house set in beautiful woodland countryside. However, visitors who venture into the town of Romsey can discover many more historic secrets. Romsey Abbey is a Norman church built around the skeleton of an earlier Saxon place of worship that has been a central feature of the town since the 10th century. The 13th century hunting lodge, King John’s House, attracts droves of visitors each year for its architectural features including a monastic garden. Lastly, experience a glimpse of the industrial past at the Grade II listed Sadler’s Mill, once owned by Lord Palmerston.
