Blandy’s at Inglewood is located in the picturesque village of Kintbury. The town’s 10th century name was “Cynetanbyrig”. The village is set in spectacularly beautiful countryside and contains the Kintbury Newt Ponds nature reserve and the scientifically-valuable, Catmore and Winterly Copses. While simple to get to via traditional transport means, visitors may enjoy taking a trip down Kennet and Avon Canal on a horse drawn canal boat. Canal boat services operate between Kintbury and Newbury or Hungerford. Sport is popular with several local clubs operating in the parish. Berkshire country is known for popular foodstuffs like Red Windsor Cheese, the traditional dish Berkshire bacon pudding and Two Cocks Brews.
Blandy’s at Inglewood is set within the horseshoe-shaped North Wessex Downs which consists of 670 square miles of chalk formations and dry valleys. It’s an official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that is thought to have supplied materials for early Neolithic sites. Kintbury has an ancient history as well. Mentions of the town can be found in the 935AD will of a Saxon aristocrat, Wulfgar. The will mentions a holy site which many believe is Kintbury Abbey. The excavation of St Mary’s Church reveals Saxon remains and goods which may give credence to the historical accounts. St Mary’s Church lies near the River Kennet and is worth a visit for its original features.
