Aldwyn’s at Ellerslie is located in the spa town of Malvern, Worcestershire on the A449. The house is set at the base of the Malvern Hills and boasts 360 views of a natural conservation area. The town is renowned as the home of the Water Cure. For centuries, Malvern’s natural spring water was taken as a health tonic. The natural landscape inspired C.S Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe which has since become a household name. After the popularity of spring waters waned, the town became known for science and technology with several large corporations setting up shop. Many still remain today in Malvern Hills Science Park. Beyond the sauce of the same name, many local food and drink items are popular in Worcestershire including Westons Cider, Clives PYO Fruit Farm and Holywell Malvern Spring Water.
Aldwyn’s at Ellerslie is set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The nearby town of Malvern has a deep history from the Bronze Age to the Modern day. A focal point of the town, the Great Malvern Priory contains the biggest collection medieval wall tiles, medieval floor tiles and 15th-century stained glass in England. The Grade I listed building was once a Benedictine monastery, with a hermit named Aldwyn as the first Prior. During the Dissolution of the Monasteries, local residents acquired the building for £20. However, Malvern is best known for its natural springs which have been bottled for centuries and enjoyed in situ by historical figures like Samuel Wilberforce, Queen Adelaide, Lord Tennyson, Charles Darwin, Catherine Dickens and Florence Nightingale.
