Company Presentation

AudicomPendax's Business Concept

Our aim is to design the optimal meeting room, taking into account the specific working methods and expectations of our customers. This we achieve by using, in at least 70% of the cases, unique, own-developed products, solutions and services, together with what the rest of the market is offering. Furnishings and technology are also integrated into the environment. We always offer three alternative solutions. Product development is prioritized to: • Enable new working methods with modern technology. • Seize new opportunities in materials and technology. • Constantly offer added value. Our guiding stars are quality, environment, accessibility and social responsibility.

6

Company Presentation

Quality, Environment and Social Responsibility We are ISO 9001:2000 and 14001:2004 certified. We routinely measure the active part of our business systems, including:

minimize environmental impact. All staff shall always consider the possibility of using video conferencing, instead of travelling.

• Customer satisfaction (through questionnaires).

To reach these general environmental goals, the following more specific objectives have been established: When purchasing ask for declaration of contents. Work actively for the marketing of eco-friendly products. Always aim for improvements that save energy and reduce environmental impact. Always choose the most environmentally friendly transport option. All of our employees shall have the opportunity to use video conferencing.

• The number of car miles driven per customer visit (to decrease carbon emission). • Number of STOP and GO i.e.. improvement opportunities that our staff take notes of in our complaint system. • Number of preventive measures. • Our certification body conducts audits at least twice a year to ensure quality and environmental management. • We have implemented SA-8000 which is now a natural part of our everyday lives. We have weekly meetings with our offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Reading. By using video conferencing we save huge amounts of fuel and time.

Quality Policy AudicomPendax affirms at all times the importance of: Developing, designing, producing and marketing products that meet, and preferably exceed, customer expectations. Delivering the right product at the right time at the right price. All employees shall strive to improve the quality of their own work. Comply with laws and regulations.

Compliance and effectiveness: The company management has defined and documented company policy and quality objectives. Each manager is responsible for ensuring that the policies are understood and applied within his or her area of responsibility. All staff members must work to ensure that policies are followed and objectives are met. Continuous improvements that lead to better products and higher quality work will be an integral part of operations. In this way our customers are ensured that products and services are delivered according to specifications and contracts. Environmental management program: When an environmental goal has been established, output documents are drawn up.

At the Environmental Control Council we participate as a party from the manufacturing industry to develop criteria for those wanting to make sustainable and environmentally sound choices about procurement of furniture and interior designs.

As members of the REPA and El-kretsen, we take responsibility for the recycling of packaging and electronics we put on the market.

You can free of charge dispose of all packaging you receive from us at one of thousands of recycling stations around the country. We recycle more than one ton of aluminium each year. All this is recycled efficiently in the form of foil, soda cans and furniture components.

5 Year Warranty As a consequence of our long-standing quality work, we give a 5-year product warranty on all our self-manufactured standard products.

Environmental Policy AudicomPendax shall at all times work towards continual improvement and prevention of pollution by aiming at the following objectives: Complying with Environmental Legislation and live up to the market, government and other requirements. In the product and purchasing process purposefully question all materials and, where possible, replace them with more environmentally friendly alternatives. In the choice of supplier, prioritize companies that have a well developed environmental policy. In questions of transportation seek to

procurement. Since the standards and requirements - by law, via EU directives - are valid throughout Europe, our approved products represent a safe, secure, long-term choice for you and the whole market.

Safety Standards AudicomPendax is a member of SIS's Technical Committee for Furniture. In the standardization process, we are actively developing test methods, sustainability and security requirements for home and office furniture. And, of course, whiteboards for education environments. It is important for specifiers and purchasers to refer to standards - so important that they should be referred to according to the law on public

Product Development We are actively working on new products and solutions that can meet the needs of tomorrow. An important aspect of product development is our environmental work where, through smart solutions, materials and versatility we can reduce the negative impact on the environment. We have currently a number of patents which assures all AudicomPendax customers of added value.

An Example of a Creative Environment 2 Interactive projector

1 Wall entirely covered with writing board 3 Projected image

4 Connecto Output and Input System

It all starts with a vision... This is our view of the meeting room of the future. Start by shaping a vision of how the organization wants to work to 1) accommodate the next generation of employees, 2) become more efficient and 3) meet society's demands for environmental concerns. Step two is to design environments in accordance with the proposed working methods, environments where technology and furnishing cooperate. An example of a solution where furnishing and technology work together is our recently developed Connecto Pro Image. Here EVERYTHING is installed in the table. A rethinking out of the ordinary. The next evolutionary step in the Connecto series is Connecto-Web, where a complete video meeting feature is integrated in the table. Worth thinking about when creating a vision: • Creative environment. • Work tools.

8

• Standing or sitting? • Easy control of the equipment. • Interactive solutions. • Distance solutions. This environment differs from a traditional conference or boardroom environment in the following ways: 1 Large, visible writing surfaces. 2 Interactive projector solution (computer directly integrated with projector). 3 Image projected directly on the board. 4 Outlet socket in a table that contains everything required for easy use, like control system, sockets, etc.. 5 Video meeting is integrated in the room. Camera coming automatically out of a cabinet so that the image is at exactly the right height for a perfect experience.

Employee Training We dare say we have the best and most knowledgeable line up on the market. AudicomPendax is namely also a school. We conduct ongoing sales training for our own staff and sometimes take in groups of students in order to supply the working market with fresh, new talents. Those who participate in our courses for certified AV technicians have testified that this has given them deeper and broader knowledge about the subject than even those of an AV-consultant. Feel free to ask them which screw fits where, how a listener's memory works, or about the contrast properties of writing surfaces Our wide range of internal training programs are investments that directly benefit our customers. You can rest assured that our vendors, technicians and fitters know all they need to know to do what they do as well as humanly possible.

The Free Consultant What others charge for we give away for free! See under the heading Free Consultant on page 220.

The Training and Meeting Rooms of the Future - A Technology Shift We are facing a new major technology shift - as great as the earlier replacement of slides and 16mm with video - namely that video meetings, or rather "videophone", will become as natural a part of everyday life as the car phone already has become. That this technology will impact meeting room design in terms of both technology and furnishing is obvious. This shift in technology is made possible by new camera solutions with USB 3.0 and adaptations to the Internet at significantly lower prices than traditional video conferencing. Thanks to giants like Microsoft and the Lync system this implementation will go very fast. Probably within a couple of years, most large organizations and companies will have platforms for video communication. Our challenge is to develop products and solutions that allow easy operation, acceptable sound and image quality in large format and easy communication between different platforms.

Our ever developing base range.

The world famous AV-rail - launched by AudicomPendax in the mid seventies - is the basis of the modern meeting room and it's constantly developed. No other supplier can offer a larger product range than AudicomPendax - to companies, institutions, schools - public as well as private - and with a handful of own patents. At AudicomPendax - Time never stands still.

AV-Rail Systems

AV-Rail Systems

A Swedish invention patented by AudicomPendax in the 1970's. Thanks to the ingenious idea ”suspend everything on the rail”, the AV-rail is now a worldwide product available in never-ending copies. Go for the original! It pays in the long run as we continue to develop this fantastic idea. Today you can choose between: • DesignLine • X-Line • Classic/Basic • Common accessories The systems are compatible with each other! All measurements in this chapter (and in all other chapters) are specified in millimetres and in Width x Height. By "stain", we mean Herdin’s standard stain.

In order to ensure quality, all products are obviously tested and approved. Projection surfaces are in accordance with standard BS-EN 1101/A1:2005 and ISO 6940:1995 and writing boards are in accordance with BS-EN 14434. We have marked and approved those products for which there is a standard with our seal, to facilitate for our customers. Always refer to the quality and safety standards of your purchase. It pays in the long run!

AV-Rail Systems

Why AV-Rail Systems? The complete solution for an AV-interior if you want: • Function • Efficiency • Economy A system will give you: • Open floor areas • Low investment cost. • High flexibility.

Anti-Lift Safety Protection We have anti-lift protection that fits all our AV-rail suspended products.

Writing Boards for AV-Rail

Universal Pen Holder

All writing boards are made of first class glass enamel (not of lacquered steel or high pressure laminate) and laminated on an MDF board in order to pass the severe requirements of the European Standard BS-EN 14434. All boards are counter laminated with galvanized steel so as always to be perfectly flat. If nothing else has been agreed upon, we always leave a 15 years warranty on the white board surface.

A pen holder that can be used on both magnetic and nonmagnetic surfaces. Replaces the traditional pen shelves and can be mounted on the back of AV-rail suspended products in order to avoid protruding parts on the front side.

Projection Surfaces All projection surfaces are delivered for AV-rail suspension and projection for computer/video image (4:3, 16:9/16:10), except Classic, which has a completely quadratic 1:1 format, intended for overhead projecting of vertical and horizontal A4-images. If you wish continuously tiltable projection surfaces so as to eliminate the keystone effect (oblique image) when OHprojecting, an additional kit can easily be ordered. We recommend a maximum size of 2500 x 2000 mm for AV-rail suspended products. For larger image surfaces see the heading ”Projection Screens – Frame Fixed" on page 130-137.

AV-Rail Systems

AV-Rail System DesignLine - The System with LED-illumination

2 Active loudspeakers

1 Short throw projector 3 AV-Rail

4 Writing board without frame

5 Starter set

The AV-rail becomes an active part of the furnishing with inbuilt LED-illumination and a modern design suited for today's restricted and open environments. The system has a unique suspension system which rolls extremely easily and which is not affected by dust or dirt in the rail. It is entirely developed in accordance with the European standard requirements with, among other things, in-built antilift safety protection. 1 Short throw projector can be used for projecting directly on a glass enamel writing board of good quality. It functions because the angle between the projector lamp and the writing board surface becomes so flat that the image is not disturbed by any reflections. Otherwise, we recommend a frame suspended projection surface and, as second best, a rollable film screen, to achieve the best possible image quality. 2 Active loudspeakers are loudspeakers with inbuilt amplifiers. One of the advantages naturally is that the combination of amplifier, loudspeaker and cabinet is thoroughly developed from the drawing board. This guarantees

34

good sound in all situations and a fast and easy installation. The loudspeakers in the image are our own white 70-watt loudspeakers, presented in more detail on page 207. 3 DesignLine AV-rail, in the picture with white aluminium dĂŠcor, is the greatest achievement in the market for many years. Other than the possibility to add LED-illumination, the whole system is approved in accordance with BS-EN 14434:2010, which makes it completely unique. 4 DesignLine Writing Board without frame is presented in more detail on page 54. As you can see in the picture, it can be combined with DesignLine AV-rail in the upper part, which is really clever. 5 The starter kit for writing boards contains everything you need in order to take maximum advantage of your writing board from the very first day. Everything you see on the board is included, plus some more. This is presented in more detail on page 72.

1 Flip charts

4 Writing board

X-Line AV-rail system had an immediate success among interior designers when it was introduced on the market. The décor is available in several designs, the magnetic feature that is the most intuitive and easily handled paper holder ever and the design that for the very first time made the AV-rail an aesthetic asset and a "must-have" in all meeting rooms. 1 Flip Charts have some unique advantages. Each pad has 50 empty pages on which you can prepare your resentation in advance. You don’t need any computer or electricity. When you suspend it on the AV-rail, another advantage is that it doesn’t occupy precious floor area. When you use a flip chart instead of PowerPoint, the presentation is experienced as more interactive with the listeners, who therefore become more engaged in your message. A pedagogic trick can be to pre-draw e.g. diagrams with thin pencil lines that the audience can’t see and then fill these in with a presentation pen during the performance.

38

2 Active loudspeakers. Read more about them on page 207. 3 X-Line AV-rail, in the image with Birch décor. 4 X-Line Writing board can be mounted on the wall and integrated with AV-rail X-Line. For more information about wall mounted writing board X-Line, see page 58. It can also be suspended on the AV-rail to make it possible to use it when needed and keep it in a cupboard or hang it on the rail in another room when not in use. This alternative can be found on page 39.

AV-Rail Systems

X-Line AV-rail consists of a base rail and a series of complementary items that are chosen depending on which functions or which design the customer wants. On the base rail, there is a paper holding function where you insert the paper in the lower part of the rail. Magnetic paper holding function is available as an accessory together with

fig 1. Base rail.

a flat aluminium décor. Paper décor is included. The aluminium décor is an accessory and available in a flat style or one that is angled in towards the writing surface as well as in several attractive surfaces. If you require another colour on your décor than you find in this handbook, we can fix that. Just contact us!

fig 3. Base rail with aluminium décor.

You can have a double rail if, instead of décor, you wish to suspend a second rail on the base rail. With a double rail, you have the possibility to allow an OH-projection surface pass in front of, for example, a flip chart. A double rail function cannot be combined with anti-lift protection or magnetic function.

AV-Rail Systems

AV-Rail System Classic/Basic 1 Ceiling bracket projector

3 Writing board

AV-rail system Classic/Basic is the model for those who want the basic functions of an AV-rail system at a really good price. Writing boards and projection surfaces are approved in accordance with the same standards as those of the other systems. The reason that it's now called Classic/Basic is that two systems merged into one. Therefore, there is a Classic and a Basic alternative of writing boards and flip charts and one projection surface called Classic/Basic. 1 Universal bracket Classic for data/video projectors is one of AudicomPendax's patented products. Ever since the data/ video projector seriously made its entrance into the meeting rooms in the 1990s, their fixings have always looked different. Manufacturers of ceiling brackets handled this by making different "mounts" for each projector model. Bringing the right mount at the right time for the right job required logistics bordering on magic and plenty of luck. The universal ceiling bracket that fits all projectors changed all this. We also made it telescopically adjustable to different

42

lengths and angles and after several thousands of installations, we have not yet encountered one single situation where it doesn't fit. Read more about our universal projector fastening that revolutionized the AV-installation market on page 174. 2 Classic AV-rail is available in white and natural anodize designs. It's no coincidence that the name is Classic, because the design is really of that classic design which we all know. Nevertheless, you can add several refinements such as hidden fastening, magnetic steel dĂŠcor or one of the best paper holders there is. 3 Classic writing boards are available in either wall mounted or AV-rail suspended alternatives. The one that is mounted on the wall, you can see in the next chapter in this AV-Handbook. It always has a classic design with a soft aluminium profile and strong, safe plastic corners. The pen tray is hooked on to the lower frame on the board.

Common but Useful

The writing board may be the most common AV-aid, but therefore also one of the most important. Available in a number of designs; glass, glass enamel, opal glass and so on, all of them with specific contrast relationships for specific rooms. The same goes for the notice board. All of us have probably pinned something to a notice board some time. Indispensable. Common - Of course! But important in the same way as lemons are to lemonade!

Writing Boards

Choose a writing board for your specific needs!

Without doubt, the most common AV-equipment is still the writing board, closely followed by the flip chart. Only after these two, technical solutions as computer/video projectors follow. In order to ensure quality, our writing boards are the only ones approved according to standard BS-EN 14434:2005 to level 2. Specify standard as requirement in your purchase order. It pays in the long run! In LOU (Law of Public Procurement), chapter 6 paragraph 2, there are clear directives that standards SHALL be applied for technical specifications as rule number 1.

Use the information beside to choose the right board for the right occasion. In order to achieve the best effect in all kinds of education and meeting environments, the best possible contrast and the least possible reflections are required. 5:1

1:1 Here we have illustrated the difference in contrast between the four pen colours of green, red, blue and black when applied to a writing board surface. For users who suffer with colour blindness and cannot see the green (Deuteranopia), red (Protanopia) or blue (tritanopi) the values drops accordingly for these colours. We typically recommend a contrast ratio of 10:1 - within in the dashed, red line. To be considered suitable for use in education contexts, the best contrast shall always be sought and it is either black or dark blue text on a white background or the opposite. Values under 10 are not recommended if you want the message to be clear and easy to understand. For visually impaired people, only black pen on white board is recommended. Choose glass enamel if you want a surface suitable for official environments. Our writing boards are today the only ones in the world that live up to the standard BS-EN 14434:2005 to level 2. All of our writing boards for wall fastening and AV-rail are of this kind.

We don't promote lacquered and laminated surfaces as they don't live up to the quality requirements for official environments. The glass writing board is primarily suited for environments where aesthetics come before function and only for occasional use. The contrasts and the reflections make the board less suitable for meeting rooms. It cannot be used with interactive solutions. The wallpaper writing board is a foil fastened on a holder. This makes it possible to easily wallpaper whole walls no matter if they are straight, curved or irregular. The surface is not suited for official environments as it can not manage regular use. It can not be used with interactive solutions. Height adjustable writing boards are available in several models. The most common is the school model with one or more boards which can be lowered or raised thanks to embedded counterweights. There are also motor driven special solutions. For example writing boards mounted in cabinets and completely hidden when not used. Stand mounted and rollable boards are available in several different models and sizes. See on page 65 Interactive, digital writing boards are today no longer technical products suspended on the wall, but projectors with inbuilt interactivity that project against a real, approved, enamel writing board, see on page 196.

Glass Writing Boards

A trendy solution is the glass writing board. It's important to place these in suitable environments. Available in several colours, with or without magnetic function. If you choose magnetic function, you need more powerful magnets than the "usual" which are developed for the glass enamel writing boards. The environmental alternative is made of toughened glass and is mounted with the fastening strips at the top and the bottom. The glass is ground, enamelled and, for safety reasons, tempered in accordance with both BS 6206 and EN12150. The glass as a stock product, is white (iron-free) or has a light green tone.

Height Adjustable Writing Boards

The old familiar height adjustable writing board as we remember it from the physics and chemistry class rooms still exists, but in a more modern model. We still have this model in our range, even if this solution inch by inch is replaced by digital and interactive solutions, see page 196. The height adjustable writing boards of today are constructed of aluminium and are available in a number of variations: Single boards; double boards; manually height adjustable; motor driven height adjustable; tailor made models entirely according to the customer's wish, with, for example, a projection screen in combination with the writing board.

64

Height adjustable writing boards are excellent from an accessibility point of view. When the board is in its lowest position, everyone can reach it and write on it and in the highest position, everyone can see it. Our boards are approved in accordance with the most severe quality and safety standards that even include easy and accessible control. Tailor-made Whatever requirements you have regarding the design of Writing board frames - that is, the personal design - we can fix together with you. Previous pages show examples of fixed production designs and customized writing boards we made in collaboration with leading architects and interior designers. For the board below, we developed an exclusive aluminium profile combined with a variant of brass. You are welcome to see the opportunities in our show rooms!

Create your own writing board 1500 mm high Writing Board A writing board is normally 1200mm high. It’s typically installed at about 900mm from the floor and then covers the wall up to 2100mm from the floor. This corresponds with most people’s area of reach. In some environments, there may be a need for a higher board. An example is when an ultra short throw projector with a projected image width of about 2 metres is used. Then a writing board height of about 1300mm is needed. In situations when children or people with disabilities will be using the writing board it is good if the bottom is lower. Therefore, we also offer writing boards that are 1500mm high. Create your own writing board by starting with a writing board surface and specify it’s dimensions, then what kind of design you want. Notice Boards

DesignLine

DesignLine Notice Board is designed entirely according to your specifications. Choose the material, pattern, frame and thickness that suites your specific needs. Here you have the possibility to create everything from the small and discreet to elaborate sound absorbers. The flax flower is not only beautiful, but also the raw material to the linen we use for our standard assortment of notice boards. From flax, flaxseed oil is developed and, together with, for example, cork, this is one of the components of the Bulletin Board. The boards you see right here are all meant for wall fastening. If you are searching for notice boards to suspend on AV-rails, you will find them on page 45.

The classic conference cabinet has been a real workhorse in every day working life for several decades. There are many reasons to choose a conference cabinet. Whiteboard, projection screen and flip chart holder are all assembled in a practical device that can be placed in the middle of the focal wall. The doors allow you to temporarily hide what you are preparing or working on, and they also make the room look neat and tidy. The conference cabinet is suitable for small to medium sized groups in meeting rooms and offices. In other words it suits most standard-sized rooms. Our range consists of two basic types: DesignLine and X-Line. Each type comes in several models.

Conference Cabinets

3 Universal profile

Patent! Our unique way of building cabinets is patented. Swedish patent SE 200063-0 and European Patent 1471819. A self-supporting framework eliminates the need for a back cover, makes production simple, effective, and independent of size. Because our solution is protected, we can reveal how we can build conference cabinets that are lighter, stronger, more eco-friendly and tougher than others. 1 The side plates are made of aluminium profiles with 2 tracks for screw and writing board surface.

3 Universal profiles sit between the gables. The inside of these are right and left hand threaded at each end. In these ends is a right and a left-handed screw whose hexagonal heads protrude into the sides. Turning the universal profile secures the bolts, and hey presto! -- The cabinet is assembled.

The universal profiles are also used for mounting of the closing brackets for 5 the doors. The aluminium profiles can be cut into any lengths, which means that the length and width of the cabinet is completely up to you!

At the bottom of the cabinet the universal profiles form a natural 4 pen tray. In the picture, we have put a separate pen tray on top of the universal profiles. At the cabinet's top edge one of the universal profiles is replaced with a bar for a projection screen.

AV-Wall System X-Line

Create your own X-Line system

2 4 3 1

5

It's easy to create your own unique AV-wall. Just follow these steps: • Measure the width and height of the room. • Figure out what features you need for the wall. • Do all functions fit in the room you had in mind? • This information is enough for us to be able to give you a complete proposal. If you want to continue yourself, just note each item number for each function plus the number of columns as below, and everything is ready.

88

7

6

Columns are supplied in 3000mm lengths or per started running metre (minimum 3000mm). Maximum length without joints is 6000mm.

Column with sound

The columns are supplied complete with two large covers for front and back, four cover strips for mounting channels and fixing plates for floors and ceilings, plus a paper cover plate against the ceiling. The fixing unit for the ceiling is 500mm long and telescopic.

An elegant way to get sound in the room is to build the speakers into the columns. Supplemented with a subwoofer that can be placed anywhere, such as above the false ceiling, you get a very good audio solution which amply covers the needs of a conference room.

Keep in mind that the number of columns is reduced when there are several features combined in a system, so that three functions need only four columns, etc.

AV-wall Classic

AV-wall Classic with shelf

AV-wall Basic

As the name suggests, a classical solution A wall-mounted whiteboard combined with storage cabinets and an AV-rail on the top edge. Storage cabinets can be used for all kinds of technologies, including refrigerator and all necessary meeting accessories like paper and pens, etc. Available in any size, please ask for information. Listed is the most common size of 4052mm wide whiteboard and under cabinets along the writing board.

Classic is also available with two smaller sub-cabinets and a recessed "waist" on the top panel. The advantage of the indented waist on the crest disc is that you have more space to write, compared with a cabinet that goes all the way along the wall.

A whiteboard from our X-line series, placed above a shelf. This solution in a simple way gives a "lift" to the whole conference room. Available in any size, ask for information. See below the most common size of whiteboard, 4052mm width.

Video Meeting Wall

Video Meeting Wall

6 Active loudspeakers

9 Starter kit

Video Meeting Wall - the interactive creative solution for tomorrow's working methods. Think outside the box! That´s what we did when we created this complete solution where interactivity and video conferencing are integrated into the AV-wall. This solution is based on the new ultra-short-throw projectors. These are projectors that throw the image from a very short distance, in principle in direct connection to the wall. Thanks to this no hotspot (reflection of the projector's light) appears on the board when the image is projected. This technology makes it possible to view the image directly on a writing board - no special projection screen is

92

required. So, we started to think outside the proverbial box - in other words, in new ways - and designed an AV wall comprising of a wall completely covered with writing board surface (must be the glass enamel type), an interactive projector installed on the writing board, a base cabinet for storage of technology and a motorized shelf for the video camera. Though this solution, the video camera comes at the right position to display a natural image for the other party, which means that you can see each other eye to eye. In addition, in order to make the system user-friendly, a Connecto outlet system and a control system have been

installed in the table (see more under each heading on page 160 and 180). This solution covers all the modern, creative working methods that the next generation needs to thrive at work. You just connect your laptop directly in the table, press the button for the desired function in the control system, and you are all set. There are times when the only solution is separate, free-standing units on the floor, even if they take up much space and often are in the way.

For example rooms in buildings of cultural and historical value where nothing can be screwed on to the wall, temporary meeting rooms and large stages where fixed units come too far

back on the stage, etc. A flip chart on a stand is the most common solution.

Projection Screens

Tailor made professional solutions, or standard products?

• Image format

The answer to the question in the title is -- we offer both!

• Size relative to room

We can do that because we design and manufacture tailormade professional solutions ourselves. At the same time we have a range of products constructed especially for us in China. All this means that we can give you exactly what you need, based on your working methods and the room conditions. The special range is our product series X-Line and Classic. They are available as roll down screens, with or without motor, and also as DesignLine, Big, X-Line and Classic in fixed frame designs. The standard range is named Basic and is available either as manual or power-operated, in various sizes and models.

110

Note!

To optimize your investment in your video source, projector and presentation you need a high quality projection surface.

• Roll down screen or frame fixed • Black edge or not around the picture • Control • Screen quality

Image Format The image format is the ratio between width and height. Today the 16:10 format has by and large replaced the previous formats 4:3, 1:1 and 16:9, which means that 16:10 should be the starting point for planning.

Projection Screens

Image Size

Control

So that everyone should be able to see the image/message you can use the following method: Measure the distance between the projection surface and the most distant viewer. Divide the distance by 6 to get the image width.

We divide the operation of roll down screens in two categories: manual and motorized. Roller blind spring is the simplest manual solution. If the projection screen is too large for the drop-down spring, larger than 240x240 cm, we recommend the model with a hand crank. Motorized solutions offer many advantages. The motors are silent and can be controlled with a standard wall switch, remote control or our simple and practical control systems. Read more about control systems on pages 181-191

If the image has a higher resolution than XGA (1024x768 pixels), you need a larger image to compensate for the smaller details. In that case, divide the viewing distance by between 5 and 4, depending on the resolution. Full HD or WUXGA requires that you divide the distance by approximately 3 so that most viewers can see the details in a spreadsheet for example. To the left a spreadsheet in full HD - small details. Pictured below XGA - larger details. An example from real life: The distance between the wall and the last row is 12 metres. Divided by 6, the image width will be two metres. The image format is 16:10. In order to obtain the image height we divide 2 by 16 and multiply with 10. In this case we get 1.25m. If the audience is seated (on a level floor), the bottom edge of the image should be approximately 1.3 metres above the floor. In this example a ceiling height of at least 1.3 metres plus 1.25 meters is required for everybody to see well.

Roll down screen or fixed frame? Fixed frame projection screens give by far the best image as they are always completely flat. If you demand perfect image reproduction the choice is simple. Choose fixed frame! The advantage of roll down screens is that they take up minimal space when not in use. Only the cover is visible and it is easy to pull it up or down, either by hand or with a switch on a control system. Fixed frame screens on an AV-rail on the other hand can simply be pushed aside, taken down and even moved to another room. Besides they have no cover at all to consider when the ceiling is low. Just choose the benefits you prefer.

Black border or frame? Nowadays, one has no use for any matt black edge or masking since modern projectors deliver flawless images with sharp edges with no need for masking. If you still prefer it, you can find it in our simpler Basic assortment with roll down screens in standard format.

Screen Quality The quality of the fabric is judged on several grounds: • Durability • Evenness • Light distribution - GAIN • Size without joint • Flammability • Light density • Environmental performance Gain is a measure of the light distribution from a projection surface. The measurement method entails comparing the light distribution of titanium dioxide with that of the projection surface. 1.0 means that it is equivalent, 1.1 larger by 10% and so on. Note that this is only measured at one point on the projection surface, so it doesn´t really say anything about the fabric´s light reflection overall, or about the image quality. In our extended gain table with our four most common types of fabric, you can see the relationship between light reflected straight back in the lamp's direction and the amount of light scattered at 45 degrees angle from the incoming light. All this still in relation to the corresponding measure of titanium dioxide.

Projection Screens

Mounting Our screens X-Line and Classic are assembled quickly and easily with smart ceiling and wall fixings. These fixings can be positioned anywhere along the length of the housing and are completely hidden by the screen cover after installation. The fixings make it possible for the cover to be mounted close to the ceiling or wall. Motorized models such as the X-Line

and Classic use the same type of attachment and cover as the manual ones. X-Line and Classic do not require installation of special circuit switches since the power is connected with a contact in the end of the housing. The basic range is more traditional and, as other roll down screens on the market, equipped with loops to hang in brackets with hooks or chains from the ceiling. The motorized version comes with a cable to connect to the service switch and further to a toggle switch or relay box.

Dimensions All dimensions specified in the X-Line and Classic range indicate the fabric width. Height is adapted to given conditions, such as the ceiling height and more. The cover width will add approximately 70-120mm, depending on the type, see diagram for each screen. When we specify the height of the screen, we add approximately 400mm.

This is because an extra piece of fabric is needed in order to make a safe and good attachment of the fabric to the roll bar.

Weight Roll down screens weigh about 3kg per metre including housing. Fixed Frame ones weigh around 1kg per square metre.

Back Projection Fabric type BP is for back projection, width of 2500 mm. The fabric can be spliced to larger sizes and is slightly elastic so that it can be stretched on to a frame or rolled on a bar. If the fabric is stretched on a frame, the projection surface will evidently correspond to the area within the frame. Rear projection or back projection has the advantage over traditional slide show (projector projecting toward the front of a projection screen) that the light in the room does not affect the image so much. Besides there will be no shadows of people between the projector and the projection surface.

Type of Fabric

The technical development of larger and cheaper screens of LCD and LED technology are part of this solution. However, screens of approximately 60" with an image width of about 120 cm are still so expensive that back projection is a clever solution for trade fairs and events.

Fabric type A is a reinforced, durable and highly reflective fabric with black layer on the back and a reflective surface. Available in widths of 2500mm and 3200mm. Fabric type B is 100% polyester and has a width of 2400mm. Fabric type GR is an extra-thick, highly reflective fabric. Available up to 4000mm width without joint. Maximum dimensions without seam is 6000x4000 mm or 4000x6000 mm. A total of 24 square metres. Fabric type S is an elastic stretched fabric used for fixed frame projection screens. The tension fabric may be spliced to any size with a highfrequency welder. The width of the fabric is 3200 mm, which means that the maximum size is 3000mm as one continuous piece. The other dimension is optional.

Fabric Fabrics can be purchased separately. Charged per square metre and always in full fabric width. Front projection A 2500 mm A 3200 mm B 2400 mm GR 4000 mm S 3200 mm Back projection BP 2500 mm

Projections Screens - Other Assembly Solutions

Assembly advice! It is important that the projection screen can be rolled down without getting stuck in a writing board or similar. For direct mounting on suspended ceiling: Make sure that the suspended ceiling is properly installed. If that is not the case, relieve the weight with a wooden bar over a larger area and attach the screen directly to the bar. In case of high ceilings, use a bracket against the wall or a chain.

Projection screen and blackout! If you want to project on a wall with a window, a combined screen/blackout can be the solution. In that case however a projection screen fabric of standard type is not suitable, you will need a fabric with integral black layer. Offered on request.

Projection Screens - Fixed Frame

DesignLine Fixed Projection Screens

Having invested in a projector that can show sharp, stunning pictures, you naturally want a projection surface that is faithful to the pictures. 130

When superior image quality is a requirement, a fixed frame projection surface is the only option, since it is guaranteed to be completely flat and still, not allowing any distortion of the image. Of course, all our models have concealed fixings. Thanks to our modular system for manufacture of fixed frame projection surfaces we can offer image formats of any size.

Sizes larger than 200x300cm (Big) are usually built up at the customer's location for easy transport and because the big size of the projection surface often cannot be brought into the room in one piece. All fixed frame models have our stretched fabric, gain 1.0.

Models In the range we have: • DesignLine • Big • X-Line • Basic

Projection Screens - Fixed Frame

DesignLine A completely unique construction where no external, visible frames are needed. This has for a long time been The Holy Grail when it comes to design and projection surfaces.

E 54250

Thanks to DesignLine, the projection screen is perceived as very smooth and becomes part of the furnishing. The shadow falling on the wall becomes a frame for a flawless picture on a stretched fabric of the highest quality. Choose desired size Width x Height. Installed with concealed fixings in the suspension frame, alternatively hinges and cord with hand crank or motor for tilting function.

Projection Screens - Fixed Frame

BIG Fixed Frame Projection Screens

This model can be ordered in a size of your own choice and is primarily meant for larger image systems in, for example, exhibition environments, multimedia halls and slide show systems. Each unit is manufactured exactly according to customer specification and is always assembled on the spot.

Both images on this spread show solutions with three projectors in an array. Other configurations, or just one projector, can obviously be used depending on the desired format. In the picture above a technique called hard edge is used to put three projected images exactly next to each other. In the small picture to the right a soft edge technique is used which means that the outer parts of the three images overlap. Hard edge requires more accuracy but provides higher resolution and clarity. A soft edge solution is a bit easier to set up but requires software that makes the edges of images overlap. The soft transitions sacrifice a certain amount of pixels in the total image width.

Projection Screens - Fixed Frame

The perfect design for perfect imaging!

Our fixed frame projection screens are built with a proprietary lightweight construction. A unique aluminium profile with plastic corners and steel angles allows us to manufacture absolutely square corners which is a prerequisite for perfect projection.

The steel corners also contain cleverly shaped holes for easy wall mounting. Our unique stretch fabric is fixed in position in the outer groove of the aluminium profile with the help of a plastic strip.

โ ข Blackouts and sun protection

Praise the darkness

AudicomPendax has sung the praises of darkness since 1938! So long is our experience of blackout systems and sun protection - and we continue to develop and introduce a number of exciting new products. The important thing is to control not only light, but also climate. The applications are innumerable. With an adequate blackout, one can reach excellent results. We have countless examples of this. Everything on paper.

139

Black Out and Sun Protection

Unique solutions for light and climate control!

In modern environments, there are several uses for sun protection and black out curtains.

• In addition to shielding against the direct sun, they make it easier to regulate other aspects of the indoor climate - in both summer and winter. • Sometimes a roller blind in a nice colour is a better background to your event than the usual view of a busy road. • It is not only impressive with motorized blackout systems and sun protection which, as if on cue, change the character of the whole room. The simple operation makes you more inclined to actually use the installation. • To design with light is to do only half of the job. It is in the contrast of the shadows that all takes place.

140

• Sometimes there is a need to shield off a part of an open office landscape. Supplement glass walls with motorized blinds for a more dynamic interior and to get maximum benefit out of your rooms. • Sun protection and blackout systems from AudicomPendax integrate the control with the rest of the room functions, which makes it perfectly suited to your particular environment both in appearance and dimensions.

Black Out and Sun Protection

Models There are two basic models: Basic is the simple classic blind while X-Line is based on our modular system and can be obtained as a manual model with hand crank or motor operation with tubular motor. We also manufacture customized models, some with fabrics that go upwards assembled in separate units for particularly sensitive environments, such as protected buildings of cultural and historical value.

We celebrate our 75th year with blackout and sun protection by announcing much exciting news!

New features include wireless remote control of the motors, which simplifies projecting and installation and also makes the total cost even smaller! We have a new broader range of blackout, coloured fabrics that we call V3 and V4. Read about and view the fabrics on the next page!

X-Line Module System

2 Cover, front

5 Fabric 6 Bottom bar

7 Channels

The large module system providing flexible solutions. Up to 6000 mm width without joint facilitates projecting and installation, which also results in lower overall costs. Here we reveal how we work by showing the large module system in close-up: 1 + 2 The cover for the modular system is built of two aluminium profiles. It is in two parts so that, among other things, it will be easier to access during installation and service.

144

The fabric is rolled up 3 on the bar that comes in two different sizes, one with 60mmø for fabrics up to 3 metres in width, and one with 80mmø for fabrics up to 6 metres in width. 4 The tube motor is pushed into the bar along with a fitting drive wheel. We have several motors to choose from with different speeds, torque, noise levels, with or without built-in radio receiver and advanced logic. The speed of the motors is measured in rpm. How fast the fabric moves is thus a product of motor speed and the radius of the bar. The motor’s power, or torque, is measured in Newton metres. It is the

motor´s capability of turning a load about its axis. To choose the right motor one needs to take into account, among other things, the diameter of the roller bar and the weight that is to be lifted. (AudicomPendax will calculate all this for you.) 5 The fabric on the previous page is of course rolled up on the bar. In order that the fabric shall be well secured, we add one and a half turns that always stays on the bar. On the lower edge of the blackout fabric, there is a flat 6 secondary bar that functions as a weight so that the fabric is stretched and smooth. It also holds the fabric in place in 7 the channels.

The small module system The small modular system uses a small cover consisting of a single aluminium profile. The system is suitable for widths up to 3000mm. The roller bar alternatives are 36mmø for manual systems with roller blind spring or 60mm ø for motorized models. If you want a solution with channels or crank control, we refer you to the large modular system.

8 The power plug on the end is the same for all of our motor operated systems and avoids the need for installing a separate service switch to meet Electrical Safety Regulations.

For specifiers To simplify things for you we have given the modular systems unique product codes, see table on page 145. Enclose information about height, width and design and feel free to add a drawing as well. Remember that we are happy to come to you to measure and to give practical tips and free advice! Contact us as early as possible in the process. This saves time and money and puts the whole process on the right track from the very start. To know which solution is right for you, we need you to answer five simple questions:

146

How high and wide shall the fabric be? Height and width are usually consistent with the height and width of the natural lighting. Sometimes there is a wish for solutions that are larger than six metres or larger than the chosen fabric (if you choose one that should not be spliced) and in that case we do several blackouts that overlap.

Which fabric do you choose? 1 Choice of fabric depends on what characteristics you want the installation to have. Colour and the possibility to control indoor climate are common wishes. See pages 142143.

Black Out and Sun Protection

1 V2 fabric

5 RS-485/232 to RF transmitter

Do you need channels? 2 Channels used to be more common when projectors were more sensitive to light. Nowadays there are very bright projectors that can be used in normally lit meeting rooms. There might be other reasons for wanting total darkness, so the alternative is still there. Channels are also good if the light transmission is in a ceiling or there is a slanted wall and one uses a double motor system.

Which kind of control do you prefer? The operation can be done manually or with a motor. Small manual ones (up to 2000x2000) can use a roller blind spring and the larger ones, in a large modular system, can use a crank. With a serial connection, a crank can be used for more than one window. The motors can be wired or wireless. Motorized solutions can be controlled via a 3 standard toggle switch, 4 remote control, 5 the automation system of the property or the meeting room´s control systems.

Where shall it be mounted? The last simple question is where the sun protection or blackout system shall be installed. This is important because if it should sit above a suspended ceiling there is sometimes no need for a housing.

Dynamic Function

• Installation Guide

Accuracy and Precision.

Installations of cables and signals over distances and so on require knowledge, accuracy and precision. Thoroughly balanced according to the room conditions and the specific needs. We have the right installation kits and accessories. And thorough knowledge. Precision to the nth degree!

Installation Guide

Installation

Everybody wants function to fit with their working methods. This requires that the product is in a context that fits with the present conditions, which requires knowledge of both technical capabilities and the desired working method. For the installation to be functional please follow this model: 1. Do our needs analysis with focus on working methods. 2. Always have working methods in mind when planning the furnishing. 3. Control the physical conditions of the room. 4. Enter the information in our database "The Consultant." 5. There are now three complete solutions that fit with your working methods. It could not be any simpler. And all this for free!

152

Technology We have in a short time gone from analogue (VGA) to digital installations. This has led to interference problems, often inexplicable to the user. For example, screens and projectors with so-called EDID protocols that require a "handshake" with the source (for performance), often create technical problems. These are the basic rules that must be followed so as to make an installation functional for the user: 1. VGA cables should be a maximum of 15 metres, including any extension cord from jack to computer. 2. HDMI and display port cables have proved to be more sensitive than VGA, so a shorter cable is recommended (around 10 metres maximum). 3. For longer cables than above we recommend changing to CAT 5/6 cabling with converters. Please note that there are

Installation Guide

various kinds of converters which produce different results depending on the circumstances. 4. Never use 230V wiring along with signal cables.

The solution of the future! This is how technological development works: When reality does not match the theory you find new solutions, and the solution that everybody hopes will eliminate these "troubles" is HDBaseT.

What then is HDBaseT?

Our latest additions can be found in the Connecto system: Connecto Pro Image and Connecto Web make the installation practically disappear. See under heading Table and Outlet Systems on page 160.

Installation Kits When we have done the needs analysis and know how you want to work in the room, it is time to gather the installation materials. To simplify things, we have developed a number of installation kits covering different needs. The installation kits can be found on the next page. Installation kits are designed to be the link between the projector/TV screen and the image source. Either with uninterrupted direct connection or through an outlet in table, floor or wall. In case of installation in a outlet box in the table, see heading X-Line Connecto Outlet Systems on page 160.

It is a completely new standard that virtually all manufacturers have agreed upon for transmission of digital video and audio signals over CAT5e/6 cables. The signal handles full HD/3D/2K/4K uncompressed signals, and 100m in network or between devices, up to 100W DC can be transferred. For future installations we recommend this solution. In the future, projectors and screens will be ready to receive this type of signal, so it will be enough with one transmitter from the source signal. This simplifies installation and is in the long run financially advantageous. If you need more information on this, we are at your service.

What comes after HDBaseT? We are confident that wireless communications also within the room will be the next big technological breakthrough, and this will further simplify installation. We believe that good solutions that can handle audio and video will be available in a few years.

Solutions We are constantly developing, and influencing developments, in order to always be at the forefront and thus be able to offer our customers optimal solutions. These are the basic solutions: 1. Mount projector in the ceiling in the traditional way. 2. Mount ultra short throw projector directly above whiteboard. 3. Mount monitor on the wall in the traditional/usual way. 4. Mount monitor recessed into whiteboard. 5. Install projector in table along with control system and outlets.

The size of the box is automatically adapted to the chosen equipment in our calculation system, rest assured. If you go for the control system Micro 4, your options are to have the panel in the table, on the inside of the lid or in the outlet box. In the latter cases you will get rid of cables on the table.

Sometimes it is useful to attach terminated cabling, so that they are always in place. The solution is a split aluminium lid that snaps into the terminal box. Underneath there is a storage bag for invisible, tangle-free storage of the connection cable. (A signal cable should not lie close to 230V wiring.) See article Cable Cover on the next page.

NOTE! Outlet units for 230V are delivered with 2.5m terminated cable rack. According to current regulations, if you connect directly to the mains it will be necessary to screw the table to the floor. The control systems in the Micro series fit directly into the connectivity system. Read more on page 180.

Connecto without storage compartment

Connecto with one storage compartment

Connecto with two storage compartments

A base without storage compartment is primarily designed for tables with existing covers that one wants to upgrade with Connecto functions. If the table is without lid there is an optional aluminium frame that hides the edge of the cut-out in the table.

One storage compartment gives you the possibility to tuck away cables, hubs, etc, giving you a really neat table. Frames in natural anodized aluminium are available as accessories.

The widest model of Connecto with dual storage compartments. This is also the basis for Connecto Pro Image where the projector is in the same unit. Read more about Connecto Pro Image on page 168.

With X-Line Connecto an extender can be placed, completely invisibly, under the table. In this case you choose socket trays with a male connector (F/M) from the list above. If the signal is to continue with a standard cable with male connectors, select a tray with two female connectors and thus avoid the need for a gender changer.

The total measurement of the frame that is above the table surface (b) and the nominal value for the hole in the table (c). The height of the box under the table (d) is always 140mm. The hole for the box in its entire length is the same as the active measurements, i.e. the chosen length. * ) The upper and lower parts adapt themselves to the thickness of the table top. If the table top is between 15 and 30 millimetres thick, the frame is pushed into place in the lower box with the help of the grooves in the profile geometries. There´s not even any need for screws!

The Hole in the Table If you wish to use the Connecto upper part, the measurements can be found in the sketches. The frame covers the inner edge of the hole so it is not a problem if the hole is a few millimetres bigger.

166

If you have any doubt we will send precise instructions to you or your table supplier. If you have a table without a hole we will cut the hole during installation. If you have a hole and cover you just need to choose a lower section with

measurements larger than the hole in your table. In the classic "dog bone" sketch below, there are a couple of things to take note of.

Dynamic Function

• Control Systems

Make things easy!

In all technological environments, one should strive for simpleness and user-friendliness. In a modern meeting room, the solution is an intelligent control system. It's operationally reliable, easy to install and can be used by everybody. No strange buttons, easy to interpret. The fact that our control systems are also very advantageous in price, doesn't make things worse. Simply an extra spice!

Control System

Press and Go!

New!

Now launching Micro 4. A further development of our proprietary micro control system, which has been a big sales success, with more than 1,000 delivered systems. The control system of the Micro 4-series has a membrane keyboard with 4 and 8 buttons and the new touch panel. Of course, everything fits nicely into our outlet system Connecto.

A easy to use interface to advanced technologies! Today's increasingly technology driven meeting rooms must be designed so that anyone without previous knowledge can use all the technical features. The easiest way to do this, is to add a control system. The technology must be for the people and not the opposite! Our job is to ensure: • Dynamic functionality. • Easy access for everyone. • Enhanced messages so that you can focus on your audience. • Less work for the IT and support departments.

180

Control System

Consider this! Which kind of system? Should there be a large system, or what we now consider a small system, for the most common functions? Today, it is often sufficient with a small system, such as any of our Micro Systems. The reason is that working methods in meeting rooms have changed during the past years so that most of the functions, for example DVD and video, are now computer controlled. This makes multiple controllers completely unnecessary. To end up with the right function, working methods and investment, a needs analysis is made with focus on the working methods in each room.

Operational reliability. Once you have selected whether you want a large or small system, the next open question is what technology you should choose. When it comes to the simple small systems, this is no big issue as they are based on given processors with different capacities. As for the larger systems, there are basically two choices: PC-based systems such as Crestron and AMX or PLC based systems such as Omron, Siemens and Phoenix.

all times is required. PLC based systems are used for the control of, for example, robots, machines and airports, while PC systems are often developed in niche industries that do not have the same reliability requirements. The difference in technology is mainly that PLC does not have the same operational sensitivity as the PC-based systems, which means that they provide a more reliable function. We offer all types of systems.

In general, PLC technology is always used when 100% functionality at

181

Control System

Open system.

Wireless or wired.

Internet.

An open system is a system where anyone at any time can access the program and make changes. This means that one is not dependent on a lifetime supplier.

Today, several control systems can be made completely or partially wireless, with, for example, an iPhone over WiFi. However, it is worth keeping in mind that wireless systems continually have to be charged and, as it has been shown, are easily lost, which often makes the room unusable. This means that a purely wireless system is not recommended.

Control over the internet can nowadays be done with most systems and as an option. This function can be useful if you want to be able to troubleshoot and even fix equipment remotely as well as control functions, operating times of lights and so on.

PLC-systems are completely open while the PC-based systems normally are completely closed which may be worth thinking about in the purchase process.

182

However, it is worth noting that the distance systems can never tell when something will break, but only warn that, for example, the running time of a projector lamp is almost over.

Control System

Safety.

Easy to install.

We give a 5 year warranty on all our PLC and Micro control systems. The warranty of PC-systems is in accordance with that of each developer. Normally two years.

The Micro system is preferably mounted in the middle of a table, as on the image of the connectivity system X-Line Connecto, or in a standard wall plate. The larger systems are mounted in cabinets and are controlled with a touch panel that is placed wherever you want.

183

Control System

Micro Control System Micro 4 – 4 Micro 4 - Touch The simplest of our micro control systems with 4 buttons labelled PC1, PC2, VIDEO and OFF. The control system is connected to the projector and to the relay that controls the projection screen if you have one with a motor. Fits in rooms with a projector or monitor and one or two computers. The function keys can be used optionally. For example, PC1 for the VGA -input, PC2 for the HDMI-input and VIDEO for desktop computer, DVD or other. The black image function is very useful for active presentations. It works like this: When you have chosen, for example, PC1 for a presentation, there is a green light by the button on your micro system. If you want you can again press PC1 during the presentation, so as to temporarily turn off the projector or screen and move the listener's entire focus from the presentation to yourself. Additionally, if you have a motorized projection screen in front of a wall mounted whiteboard, it is rolled up temporarily so you can use the writing board for pedagogical answers or explanations. When you press the selected function key again, the presentation will continue from where it stopped.

A newly developed system that partly eliminates the line between large and small systems but keeps the same low costs. Button texts can easily be changed to suit your needs. As standard, the system is delivered with pre-programmed functions, but may optionally be purchased in any design. Image functions

Video conferences are yet another working method. In modern conference and meeting rooms, it will be taken for granted. Whether technology is a traditional video conference or any of the newer web systems such as Microsoft Lync, we need to create an environment that makes function easy. In this context, our new touch system is almost perfect. The essential functions are organized on a menu page where it is very easy for anyone to use them.

When do you need a control system? There are really only a few reasons to increase the investment to what we call the large systems and they are:

Which kind of large system?

• The number of functions to be controlled is more than the small ones can handle.

Under the title "Consider this!" on page 181, different kinds of systems are described.

• The control panel feels too small. The number of functions is often a matter of how you want to work in the room. Do you want illumination, ventilation or other functions to be integrated into the system? Perhaps the complexity is too large so that the small systems simply do not have memory to handle everything. It may also be that there are too many small buttons with text that is too small, therefore you might want a larger touch panel. The intelligent building with the environment in focus is a good example where large systems and PLC technology is a must. The system consists of three main parts. Control panel, PLC and software.

186

PLC

PLC is an abbreviation for Programmable Logic Controller. In these contexts, technology means: • Operational reliability • No strange interruptions or problems in case of e.g. power failures. • Freedom. • Completely open system. You can access the program yourself. • Economics. • Unlimited expandability and flexibility for future changes. • Leading-edge technology.

-

Audio Processor

The PLC technology changes are huge. There are large investments in development which ensures leadingedge technology together with function. AudicomPendax offers all types of systems. Completely according to the customer's specification, such as Crestron, AMX, or other PC-based standard systems. The PLC-based systems that we, together with Omron, have developed over many years are the systems we have in this manual as first choice for complex solutions.

Crystal Clear.

When it comes to sound equipment, there is a never-ending number of developers, solutions and points of view. Therefore, the needs analysis is so important and we have together with this developed special solutions. It's the same thing with image/projectors - plasma, LCD, LED, resolution, distance - need dictates choice. With professional guidance. Therefore, it is so important to always keep oneself updated with the development within the sound/image field, which effects our senses so strongly. Sound shall be as the image - sharp.and clear. Crystal Clear.

Sound and Vision

Projectors - Screens - Digital Signage - Document Camera

What happens tomorrow? It is a highly justified question. Development is at a furious pace, and there are new models almost every week. New technologies are continuously being launched. As system integrators, we have a big responsibility to keep ourselves updated on what advantages new technology can offer compared to earlier technologies and if there is a need to be the first to apply it. We also look at whether it is worth the extra cost as the latest technology is almost always more expensive.

194

The big news that is now entering the projector market, is that laser technology will replace the lamp, which means longer operating times, less environmental impact, etc. Projectors will also be equipped with signal inputs for a twisted pair cable of the same type as the ones used for computer networks. This is done with standard HDBaseT which includes allowing longer cable lengths. This means that you no longer need a converter for CAT5/6-transmission of signals, since the twisted pair cable is connected directly to the projector. The screens are no longer just TVs and monitors, but complete multimedia devices. Examples are SONY's new display series that have Skype, audio

and camera in-built with the same signal reception as the projectors above. Also digital Signage is integrated so as to easily distribute various forms of information in HTML5 format.

Interactive Systems Especially when it comes to projectors, interactivity has been the main new thing during the last few years and the one that has developed most rapidly. Technology has gone from special, sensitive surfaces to short-throw projectors with all the

Sound and Vision

technology integrated and now also with integrated interactive distance communication. The technology provides that from most places one can write on the "same" whiteboard while having a traditional telephone meeting. It is like an inexpensive alternative to video conferencing with shared documents.

information system. Today, also the booking system of meeting rooms is a part of these systems, since it is basically the same technology. The next generation of TVs/monitors also has, as mentioned above, easier forms of unlicensed information systems integrated, which makes costs almost absent for the information part.

As a consequence, entirely new cost efficient possibilities open up.

Therefore, large TV/monitor manufacturers such as Sony, Samsung, LG etc. will probably take care of this type of information distribution in the future.

What happens tomorrow? The question might not be as straightforward but is still interesting. The answer naturally is not as clear and secure, but a relatively safe guess is that the next big change will be that all communication between devices will be wireless and then with 5G technology. This technology will be here within a few years. The consequences with this technology will be that installations become easier and cheaper.

Technically, all systems today work basically in the same way, information transfer via the Internet with own IP-addresses. We are completely label-independent and offer solutions entirely tailored to the unique needs of each user. Do not hesitate to ask us - it's always free.

You can book or find an available room, directly on the display. But it is just as easy to book in the usual way from your computer. Visneto connects to your existing booking system, whether it is Microsoft Exchange , Exchange Web Services or Google Calendar. There is also a version with a separate, completely independent booking system. The monitor is a modern multi touch device with Android software that connects wirelessly to your WiFi. Screens can be mounted either vertically or horizontally which makes installation flexible. It is possible to choose font size, which means that if a larger or smaller screen is desired, Visneto adapts to the screen size. Despite its multi-functionality, the system is easy to understand and use. Just point and book!

The touch screen and reservation system Visneto is a modern, userfriendly system that shows bookings on a display outside the conference room.

Another major change that partly is already here, is that higher resolutions, 4K - with approximately four times more pixels, become common in both monitors and projectors. However, this process will take a little longer to implement as it requires something to show, in order to be able to use the technology. It is a much longer process. They say that the football World Cup 2014 will be entirely filmed and also broadcast in 4K, which might speed things up.

Digital Signage Information and Booking System This more modern way to inform quickly and effectively has become more accessible. It doesn't require specialist knowledge in the same way as it did before, and it is now more similar to regular meeting technology . This means that also these functions are added more frequently to AVcontracts. Digital Signage, as it is often called today, we previously called an

195

Sound and Vision

Projectors

Projectors Development has proceeded at a tremendous pace, which means that we today can offer solutions with traditional projectors placed in the ceiling, but also with short-throw projectors, which makes installations entirely different. The working methods of the room are affected in a positive way, through the ability to view the image directly on the writing board. The projector is mounted directly onto the wall above the writing board, which eliminates what we call a "hotspot", i.e. when light is reflected towards the audience. The standard projectors of today, are often provided with lots of technical features such as

196

remote monitoring, integrated slide show functions, picture-in-image management, etc. and brightness that makes it possible to design the rooms in a new way. For example, one can use a simpler blackout than before. When your needs and working methods are clarified, we offer suitable solutions.

Interactive Projectors. Interactive projectors are an interesting development, or even revolution, on the market. When the wireless pen is connected directly to

the projector, you don't need a special wall-suspended technical product, with everything that comes with it. Provides benefits such as: • Works with your ordinary whiteboard which follows the standard "Writing boards for educational environments Ergonomics, technique and safety Requirements and test methods." • Optional size of the writing/ image surface. Ultra short-throw distance reduces shadows, glare and reflection. • Can be mounted on heightadjustable writing boards of a high quality so that people of different heights can use the entire board.

Sound and Vision

• Significantly cheaper total solution. • Open system - prepare your lessons on any computer. • Wireless pen replaces the mouse, which simplifies the work. • Easy Installation - Plug and Play USB connection. • Integrated microphone and speech amplification. • Can also be used with back projection surface. Software that is currently free on the Internet, and easy to use for educational purposes. The system comes with software that can work on any system.

Document Camera The document camera, the modern overhead projector, is an often underestimated AV-device that we recommend as a cheap and easy support for your presentation. Advantages compared with the computer and, for example, PowerPoint presentations, are that you can show everything very easily. All kinds of papers, books, brochure pages, notes and products are simply placed on the table and the camera digitizes and streams moving images directly - And that's it. In addition, the document camera has

the advantage that it can be placed anywhere in the room, as the image is transmitted digitally to the projector or monitor.

Ethernet Control - RS232, USB, IR and IP. Power - up to 100WDC by Cat5e/6 cabling.

Technical Terms

Which one should I choose?

Terms like HD, Full HD, Pixels, XGA, WXGA, LCD, Plasma, LED, ANSI, Colour light output, HDBaseT and so on, are frequently used. We note that the terms are sometimes used carelessly and taken out of context. It can be difficult to determine what the actual difference in function is and what the user must invest in order to be satisfied. On the following pages, we go through the most important concepts.

Our recommendation is to do a needs analysis based on what working methods you want to use in the future. The analysis allows one to determine a suitable solution for the operation. Then you look at what equipment can fit into the already existing equipment of the business and ultimately decide which one to use. In this way, you make the right investment without unnecessary costs.

HDBaseT - the latest technology concept, requires explanation as it will affect our installations in a positive way. HDBaseT is a standard for distributing uncompressed HD video and audio signals for transmission over twisted pair cable (Cat5e, 6 -, etc.) up to 100 metres without additional reinforcement. HDBaseT manages: Video - Full HD, 3D, 2K and 4K uncompressed to a network or device. Supports HDMI 1, 4, EPG, CEC, EDID and HDCP-protocol. Audio - All standard formats including Dolby Digital, DTS, True HD, and DTS HD Master Audio. Ethernet - Support up to 100Mb

Image Resolution

What image resolution do you need? Resolution is one of the essential questions in the needs analysis as it affects the design of the entire room and cost structure.

1. A common misconception is that a higher resolution always is better than a lower. In reality however, it's the other way around. Traditionally, we calculate image width with the formula "length of the room divided by 6 = image width for all to see well". This image size is initially based on the quality of the projector. We have basically used the same concept for computer imaging, but that formula does not work well any more as ever higher resolutions are introduced. If, for example, one displays full HD 1920x1080p on the same surface as an XGA resolution, the image will be smaller.

198

2. The panel in the projector/TV always reproduces an optimal picture if the signal it receives has the same resolution. If, for example, the TV/ projector has more pixels than the image source such as a computer, then there are two possibilities: The first one is that the picture doesn't fill completely, and the second one is that the image is automatically distorted so that the whole image surface is filled to the cost of the image being distorted . 3. When it comes to moving images, this is not so important as the eye/ brain is fooled not to perceive this but with Word and Excel documents, it becomes difficult to perceive the messages unless there is an adjustment of the image size.

Sound and Vision

Judge for Yourselves! The pictures below are taken in the same room and from the same distance but with different resolutions on the projected image. Image size Width 1250mm Distance from the image: 4000mm

Image 1

Resolution XGA, 1024x768

Image 2

As seen in the picture, the higher the resolution is, the larger image is required in order to be able to see the details. The best way to decide what is appropriate is to test for yourselves. Technically, it is the percentage difference in the number of pixels, and the difference in normal cases then becomes between 50-75%.

Resolution, Full HD, 1920x1080

NOTE! - What is the goal with the investment? If the goal is that all messages shall reach the recipient, one must be able to read them perfectly. Otherwise, the messages are not received and the whole point is lost. Read more about this under the heading Writing Boards and Contrast on page 51.

Brightness Nowadays, one often hears talk about ANSI-lumen, which is a standard where 9 measuring points measure the brightness, and the average of this is listed as Brightness or White light output. This test started because there was a need for determining the optic quality in such a way that light is distributed properly over the projection surface instead of only in the middle of the screen. A new measuring technique, Colour Light Output, measures the red, green and blue. Totally 9x3 = 27 measurements are made, where the average is stated in ANSI-lumen and thus a value on the colour rendering. This gives a more realistic value because we almost never look at a completely white screen. Both of these methods are based on ISO / IEC 21118:2012. When looking at the results of official measurements made by the Society for Information Dispalys (SID) www.icdmsid.org, which we have seen, it is clear that the producers who reported Colour light output have significantly better performance of their products than those who only reported White light output. The brightness is up to 4 times better which is worth considering when choosing a product!

Which technology should I choose? There are different schools of thought depending on who Image you asksize and- projector who theyplacment represent. Our advice is to compare the different kinds of images yourself. According to us, the 3-lenscommon f 317 mm kinds, LCD differences are very small among the most 3-lens f 300 versus Plasma and DLP versus LCD. 1-lens f 290 mm

The new technology, LED for monitors and laser for projectors, 1-lens f 280 mm has better resolution and are future proof choices. They are Approximate minimum distances for 1 and 3-lens projectors also more ECO-friendly. We will be glad to help you make the right choice. In our exhibition, you can see all technologies and most of the products.

Products Because new product models of document cameras, projectors, screens and digital signage are introduced continuously, we have chosen not to include this in our handbook, but we refer you to our website.

To think about when choosing a projector/screen: • Which resolution? • Number of computers that will be connected simultaneously?

LCD-projectors with standard optics Relation of image widht (cm)/projector distances

• Interactive or not? • Short-throw or traditional solution? • Do you want to be able to use Video/DVD/TV? • Suitable brightness? • Right kind of connections. DVI, HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort, etc. • Lamp module life. When it comes to choosing between flat screen or projector, there are a number of things to keep in mind. The most important things are: • Image size in order for everyone to see the image properly. • Working methods, except the digital ones that are directly connected to the computer, with the functions required for each method. Examples: —— Writing board —— Flip chart —— Video meeting - camera placing —— Telephone meeting —— Interactivity —— Control

Distance in meters

If you want to calculate the exact distance between projector and projection screen, do as follows: 1. Look for ”Throw ratio” e.g. 1.5 -1.8:1 in the projector manual. 2. What is the width of the projection screen or the width you wish for your images? In our sample calculation, we use 200cm. 3. Multiply the image width you want by the average of the ”Throw ratio” (in the example above 1.65). 4. In our example, the result is 200x1.65 = 330cm. NOTE! This measure is between front edge of the projector and projection screen.

Sound Equipment

We design, deliver and install all types of audio systems for all kind of needs. When it comes to sound equipment, the number of manufacturers, solutions and points of view are infinite. To simplify for our customers, we keep ourselves updated and continuously test what new developments the market offers. Based on this, we have created various package solutions for different types of rooms, functions and needs. The packages are also improved constantly, through the addition of new products that provide different dimensions. For more information, see the matrix on page 205, which provides some suggestions for suitable solutions.

202

What do you need? Before choosing your equipment, it is good to start by answering the following questions:

Meeting Room • Do you really need sound equipment? • Or is it enough with the integrated loud speakers of the projector or TV? • Do you need speech amplification? • Mono, stereo or surround sound system? Official environments

normally don't require any system other than mono, as users don't seek any effects. • Will the room be used for distance meetings?

Larger rooms Examples are auditoriums, event halls and similar. In these cases, a sound system of better quality is normally needed. The most important question when choosing sound equipment is what the room will be used for. • Internal meetings? • External customer presentations? • Movie showing?

Sound and Vision

• VIP-meetings?

• Movie showing?

• Recordings?

• Surround reproduction 5.1 or 7.1?

• Distant meetings?

• Special effects?

• Other?

• Live music performance?

Multi Function Halls In rooms where special effects are required, you normally need a sound system of higher quality and with specific effect devices. The most important question when choosing sound equipment is how the room will be used.

• Coordinated with one or more image sources? • Flexibility? • Rental? • VIP-meetings? • Recordings? • Distance meetings? • Other?

PAAnnouncements A completely different kind of audio system is PA (Public Address), i.e. announcement equipment used within, for example, large office areas. This makes it possible to distribute oral announcements or background music from a central location to all/some parts of the building. Nowadays, PA-sound is often distributed with the same system as the voice alarm (if such exists), as it is basically the same equipment. This kind of system is proposed entirely from case to case. Ask for information.

Congress and Voting Systems

In larger rooms where everyone needs to hear well and communicate with each other, some kind of sound system is needed. Today there are often demands that voting should be done quickly and smoothly, that meetings should be posted on-line as Web television, stored on servers and documented. This is what we call a Congress system. You will find these solutions where democratic decisions are to be taken, like municipalities, parliament, courts and businesses where one wants to easily communicate internally and externally at the same time. A more recent application is distance learning, or e-learning, catching on in society at a furious pace. Congress systems can be built up in several ways. A typical system configuration is microphones fixed in tables or chairs, wired to a central device with advanced equipment for handling noise levels, echo cancellation, etc. all controlled by the control system. See picture above.

A more recent solution is to work wirelessly, which creates easier installations. Wireless systems are available with radio technology (2.4 GHz technology) and IR (infra-red light). Our experience indicates that IR-technology is preferable since it is completely insensitive to interference and cannot be wire tapped. Security is thus 100%, which is valuable at board meetings, trials, etc.

Sound Equipments

The Sound Components Here follows a description of the most common components of our sound equipment.

Speakers The speaker is simply the most important component in the system, since it determines volume and distribution of the sound reproduction. Apart from the ability of the speaker to handle the operation power delivered by the amplifier, there are other possible parameters: • Wall mounted or ceiling mounted. • Active speakers (with built-in amplifier). • Environmentally sound speakers. • Adjustable with limited distribution.

Speaker Cluster A composite/built unit consisting of two or more different kinds of speakers, referring to distribution or direction.

Subwoofer A speaker for reproducing the deep register, for special effects in music reproduction and movie viewing. Connected to a separate amplifier, and with a signal where the other frequencies have been trimmed with a filter. Often found as active speakers (with built in amplifier), insensitive to placement in the room.

Sound Processor A more advanced mixer is called a sound processor and contains a number of special effects, such as echo cancellation, delay, frequency variation, etc. A recent addition is DSP, digital sound processor. This is basically a matrix but for each input and output there is the possibility for individual signal processing. Programmable via a PC, with several "scenes" suited to different conditions. The unit is dimensioned according to the desired number of sound sources and the number of speakers.

Mixer Amplifier A mixer with built-in amplifier connected directly to the speakers. The specified power, in Watts, indicates which speaker systems the amplifier can handle.

Matrix Mixer A mixer with a certain number of inputs and outputs. Each input is assignable to a selected output. Thus audio from two sources can simultaneously be sent to different amplifiers/ speakers.

Microphone

Amplifier The device that produces sound in the speakers. The specified power, in Watts, indicates which speaker systems the amplifier can handle. It usually has one (mono) or two (stereo) outputs.

Equalizer Device that provides the ability to adjust the frequency response to the acoustic conditions. Connected between amplifier and mixer.

Mixer/audio Switcher Makes it possible to connect several sound sources to a sound system. In the mixer, sounds from several sources can be mixed, for example music and sound from a microphone. In a switcher, only one sound source can be reproduced at a time. The unit is dimensioned according to the desired number of sound sources. Mixer/switcher is connected to an amplifier.

Device for recording and transmitting speech. Available in different kinds: dynamic, electret and condenser. The Dynamic affects a membrane mechanically, the other ones by means of low voltage. Microphones have different characteristics, such as in which direction they have the best uptake. The most common ones are directional, omnidirectional and cardioid (kidney shaped) which is a limited circular uptake. Microphones are either cable connected or have wireless transmission. Different wireless systems are hand microphone with built-in transmitter, lapel microphone with pocket transmitter and head mic (headset with clip-on microphone) with pocket transmitter. Wireless microphone receivers with two antennas/receiver circuits are called diversity, which means that you get better reception.

Loop Amplifier To a mixer or other audio device connected amplifier that via a magnetic coil amplifies sound for hearing impaired people with hearing aids. Also obtainable in another design for wireless transmission.

• Video conferencing and distance communication

A Digital Revolution

No matter what innovations and technologies are developed today, you know for sure that tomorrow, something entirely new will take their place. Something revolutionary, dizzying and exciting. Therefore, it's important always to keep oneself updated about the development of distance communication, that effects our senses so strongly. We take video conferencing seriously. We strongly recommend a study visit at the AVmarket's largest concept house in Stockholm. Welcome to the garden of AV! Make your choice among our finest apples!

Distance communication

Distance Communication – Video Conferencing – Videophone

A Paradigm Shift!

They will quickly jump on this opportunity to make money, and LOTS of it since volumes are growing fast.

Finally, new technology has arrived which makes the videophone just as natural as the regular telephone. We want to focus on two important questions: What is causing this? What consequences will it have?

One could compare this with the introduction of car phones in the '70s. It started out with expensive, large and complicated systems that could not speak with each other and had poor coverage. It´s the same thing with video conferencing. Looking at the development of mobile phones it is common knowledge that all systems/devices can talk with each other and that the number of units on the market is enormous. We will see just the same development with video conferencing. And it will happen fast.

What is causing this? Right now big players like Microsoft are launching "free" systems sharing the same platform, the standard H.264, as professional video conferencing systems. This suddenly gives new users the possibility to communicate with different systems without limitations and without complicated, expensive infrastructure or services, since everything is free in the so called "cloud". Microsoft Office includes software for video conferencing. Rest assured that the competition will not sit with arms folded.

212

Technically speaking, a web meeting with a USB 3.0 camera and the platform H.264 will give the same image quality as professional video conferencing equipment, but at a considerably lower price. This will boost the will to invest in video conferencing and it is something we are already seeing, as large organizations are launching web based video clients at the expense of more traditional equipment.

Distance Communication

What consequences will it have?

and time, more environmentally friendly and more cost efficient. Besides, the next generation just starting its working life, will demand more flexible solutions, which will inspire organizations to invest.

Simply put, the map will be redrawn with new manufacturers and suppliers, new technology and new attitudes towards work. For us who have focused on designing and creating meeting rooms according to customer requests, this is clearly an opportunity since video conferencing is increasingly popular. Possibilities for new ways of working open up for companies and organizations. New ways of working, much more efficient in performance

What can you gain? The environmental gains, with less travelling, are of course big. There will also be substantial economic profit since information meetings, spontaneous meetings, project meetings, strategic meetings, etc. can now be held with virtually no cost.

It´s hard to say exactly how big the profit will be, but there is no doubt it will be large. Our own experiences with our office in Reading, a head office in Stockholm, and other branch offices in GÜteborg and MalmÜ shows us that we have paid for our demonstration equipment within one fiscal year - just by not travelling. The additional profits that we can produce during the time not travelling is not even included in this. After our investments have been paid, usually a simple question of depreciation, the operating costs are nil, since we would have installed broadband in the building anyway and since 1 megabit in and out are sufficient for a good function.

213

Distance Communication

The transition to web conferencing will give even bigger profits and quicker gains, since the investment in hardware, software and requirements for bandwidth are even lower.

The Solution The solution is probably video conferencing systems, simple web solutions, or a combination of both. There are simple user systems today (for up to 3 people) that work perfectly and that can also be used as a regular computer monitor. Mobile phones can also be part of the system. A somewhat larger organization could use a so called "bridge". It makes it possible for several users at different locations to join the same conference.

214

One could either use a bridge of one´s own or rent a space in an external one. In this way, different kinds of systems can easily be combined. A USB 2.0 web cam delivers acceptable quality and USB 3.0, which is 10 times faster, gives almost perfect quality. If you already have a conference room, installing all of this into your existing equipment is easy. The only additions are a codec (abbreviation for ” compression/decompression ”, the device that translates signal to data stream and vice versa), camera, microphone and, if they are not already in place, speakers. All systems today work with a given standard, so communicating with different brands is not a problem.

Things to consider: • Number of locations. • Type of communication – sound and image – sharing of documents. • Requirements on image resolution. • Broadband capacity. • Eventual firewalls. • Number of participating people in each location. • Handling – an inexpensive, simple control system that makes it possible for everyone to use the equipment. • Web or video conferencing system, or maybe both?

Distance Communication

We offer solutions that fit your room and your working methods. To be able to do this we collaborate closely with big companies like SONY, Cisco, Microsoft, Huawei, etc. To future proof your activity and your working methods you need to have a thorough needs analysis where all the aspects of the future meetings are considered in a cost efficient way. We do this for free for you, as we consider it a natural part of our service. As to products we can offer everything that is on the market since we have no brand affiliations.

• Do you want to reduce your expenses by up to 50 %? • - future proof your meeting rooms? • - create a work space that attracts the young competence of tomorrow? • - know the trend of tomorrow before investing in new tools? Then read this!

How are you going to work in the room? This is the question you need to answer before deciding what equipment you will invest in.

220

For us it is obvious that we need to do a thorough needs analysis before proposing solutions. To do this in a professional way we have developed a tool we call "The Consultant". Rapid technological progress makes it almost impossible for an individual to be up to date with tomorrow´s best solutions that are in harmony with his or her unique working methods. We dare say we have the market´s best knowledge bank by far. Thanks to a complete organisation with it´s own development and production of AVfurniture and AV-technology as well as deep ties with big knowledge based companies like SONY and Epson. All this knowledge is continuously added to our large database ’The Consultant’. To get the most use from "The

Consultant" and to reach the goals of your investment, we need to make a needs analysis together with representatives from your company who know precisely how you wish to work. The records from the needs analysis are than processed in "The Consultant". The result is three suggestions of complete solutions that form the basis for continued decision making, such as, for example, budgeting, design, cabling and finally decision and ordering.

Why is this free? The reason is really quite simple. We see it purely as a sales service. The alternative is that we receive a request, often built on an ill-informed premise not adapted to the client´s

real needs but built entirely on advanced, unnecessarily expensive technical solutions. NOTE! AV-equipment often needs more cabling than other installations which means that in order to maximize return one needs to start this as early as possible in the relocation or building process. At the very latest this needs to be in conjunction with the electrical planning. When we are done with the needs analysis we will come up with our suggested solutions. This process might be done several times as new ideas and thoughts often come up during the planning process.

Needs Analysis In broad terms, this is how a needs analysis works:

• Examine and document the physical conditions of the work space. Example: Length, width, height, placement of windows, doors, lighting, etc. • Clarify current and prospective meeting types. Example: Customer meetings, management meetings, brainstorming sessions, training, etc. • What are the working methods of the various meeting types? Example: What are the various meetings like in practical terms: sitting, standing, cinema seating, round table, etc. • What kinds of function do you wish to use? Show computer images, write on whiteboard, etc. • What is the principal goal of the investment?

Who is going to participate? To make sure that goals are reached, it is of utmost importance that the representatives who are present at the needs analysis have a thorough knowledge of your different working methods. To make sure that everything is dealt with, we have developed a complete needs analysis form that covers everything we have mentioned. If you are unsure of the results – please compare this with traditional methods. The results will surprise you. Would you like to have references from others who tried this? Call us!
