Welcome to our 2022/23 Broadway season at the AT&T Performing Arts Center and to see Legally Blonde -The Musical. What I love about the story of Legally Blonde is the gradual realization by the audience that there is much more to characters like Elle Woods and Vivian Kensington than who we meet at the beginning of the story. The story challenges us to look deeper than first impressions and stereotypes to consider perspectives outside our norm. Isn’t this what performing arts are supposed to do at their best?

As a newcomer to Dallas (I just completed my sixth month at the Center), I am continually delighted by how our arts and culture community delivers on the promise of helping us to interpret the world around us. We are blessed with a diverse and exciting community, and it’s easy to see why Dallas is a city on the rise that so many people call home. Thank you for generously allowing me into your community.

One of our priorities this season is to find ways to make the experience of coming to the AT&T Performing Arts Center more delightful and special. You may notice that we have improved our concessions offerings (including a SKYY® Vodka signature cocktail inspired by Elle Woods herself!), we have invested in technology and staff to reduce lines, and we are adding extra touches to make your evening pristine. We invite you to stay after each evening performance for our Women in Power Afterparties, sponsored by Campari Group. I promise if you stick around for 10-15 minutes, you will find that the Lexus Red Garage will have emptied and you will have a better trip home.

What does the AT&T performing Arts Center mean to you?

Participation in the Center’s offerings translates to a sense of belonging within the greater Dallas community, the opportunity to share meaningful experiences in gorgeous, comfortable spaces, and an enriching way to learn about myself, others, and the diverse world around me.

What inspired/inspires your love of theatre and the performing arts?

I am most inspired by the humility, humanity, and diversity of the entire performing arts experience. I’m particularly inspired by the artists themselves — the training, self-discipline, failures, rejections, and never-ending competition they most assuredly face before they ever appear on the Center’s stages. I’m awed by the juxtaposition of humility and confidence each performer must possess to make that journey. I’m also inspired by the humanity and diversity within the audience. All manner of people attend the performing arts. As audience members, we take in the same performances; we’re moved in similar and different ways; and then we invariably walk away with a range of unexpectedly unique impressions about various aspects of the same shared experiences. That’s fascinating … and humbling.

Why did you choose to join the Center Circle membership program, and what motivates your continued support each year?

Over the years, as I attended more of the Center’s venues and a wider variety of their programming, I felt humbled by, and grateful for, this incredible opportunity right in my own backyard. I kept wanting to go back and explore the next experience! I noticed the beauty and comfort of each and every venue. I noticed the consistent quality of their programming. I began bringing friends with me, and they expressed the same kind of joy and awe that I felt with each experience. It was this sense of gratitude and joy that first caused me to become a Center Circle member. That same gratitude and joy still drive me to support the Center, but I also thoroughly enjoy all of the benefits of membership, as they truly enhance the experience for me, and for my friends and family. It’s a meaningful and fulfilling way to spend my money.

Do you have a favorite performance or experience while visiting the Center?

I have attended so many outstanding performances in so many pleasing AT&T Performing Arts Center spaces, but there is one very favorite standout performance that I will never forget and long to replicate — Pink Martini in Annette Strauss Square. It completely knocked our socks off!
