Registration for Fall 2023 opens on Monday, August 7.
Registration is online at www.rrnm.gov/ActiveNet or in-person at the Parks and Recreation Office, 3200 Civic Center Circle NE, Suite 100. Registration deadlines are listed with each program. Programs fill up quickly so please register early!
All registration or participation fees shall be paid at the time of registration and prior to participation in any program or activity. Please review the Aquatic Center schedule for evening and weekend registration. For your convenience we accept VISA, Master Card, Discover, American Express, cash, money orders, and cashiers checks.
The City of Rio Rancho assumes no liability for any claims that may arise from participation in any program or activity listed
REFUND POLICY
Refunds are granted if the request is prior to the registration deadline and the withdrawal is not detrimental to the program. There will be an administrative fee for withdrawals of $15 per withdrawal, some refund fees for program with a lower price will be adjusted based on the program fee.
If a refund is requested after the registration deadline and it is determined that the refund will be detrimental to the program (i.e. group rates based upon registration numbers), then no refund may be given.
If refunds are requested prior to the service starting and there are participants willing to take the space of the person requesting the refund, then a refund may be processed with a $15 administrative fee. If a refund request is made after the start of the service, a pro-rated fee may be refunded and the new person filling the vacancy may pay a pro-rated registration fee.

AQUATICS
RIO RANCHO AQUATIC CENTER – OPEN YEAR-ROUND

RECREATION SWIM (all ages)*
Friday: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 12 noon to 6 p.m.
All swimmers and non-swimmers must pay to enter the facility during recreation swim hours.
*Swimmers ages 12 and under must be accompanied by a responsible person 16 years of age or older at all times.
LAP SWIM (adults only; first come, first serve; lane sharing will be allowed)
Monday - Friday: 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 12 noon to 6 p.m.
Number of available lanes varies throughout the day. Two lap lanes available Monday-Friday between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The Aquatic Center is closed on all observed city holidays. The Aquatic Center will be closed the first Monday of every month until 2 p.m. for pool maintenance. The Aquatic Center is closed Monday - Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. *Passes can be used at all pools.
Family Pass for up to five immediate family members, $10 for each additional immediate family member.
Passes can also be used at all the outdoor pools during the summer season.
All swimmers and non-swimmers must pay the daily fee during recreation swim hours.
AQUACISE
AQUACISE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
AQUA ZUMBA: It’s a party in the pool integrating the Zumba formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness movements. It is a safe, challenging workout that’s cardio-conditioning, bodytoning and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief.
AQUA FITNESS: Low impact, high/low intensity, upright, shallow water workout set to music held in the recreation pool.
DEEP WATER FITNESS: Low impact, high intensity, upright, deep water workout designed to increase stamina, endurance and muscle tone held in the competition pool. Flotation belts for support will be provided.
Classes are subject to change. Participants must be over the age of 13. Participants ages 14 and 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

Whether you’re an experienced outdoor cyclist or your feet haven’t touched the pedals since you were a kid. The indoor group cycling provides you with a fantastic cardiovascular workout. A key to a healthy body and strong heart. Padded cycling shorts and heart rate monitors are recommended but not required. All fitness levels are welcome.

CIRCUIT CITY
This class is the perfect combination of heart pumping cardio and resistance training. You’ll hit every muscle group as you burn calories zipping through stations of different fitness equipment that may include TRX Suspension Ropes, Kettle bells, medicine balls, jump ropes, and weights. This class is ideal for both men and women of all fitness levels who want total body results in a limited amount of time.

YOGA

Please read the following descriptions to determine what class best fits your child’s abilities. Age levels are given to serve as guidelines. Place children in the level that is most appropriate. Staff will make any necessary adjustments during the classes to assure your child has the best experience.

1. PARENT AND TOT (Ages 6 months-3 years) Parent must accompany child in the water. Goals include water adjustment, getting in/out, doggie paddle, and safety skills. Max: 10
2. TADPOLES (Preschool - Ages 3 to 5) Students learn basic water skills, water acclimation, submerging, breath control, and safety skills/ rules on their own. Max: 6
3. SEA SHELLS (Early beginnersAges 4 to 7) Students learn basic water skills, floating, submerging, breath holding, safety skills, and rules. Max: 6
4. SEA HORSES (Beginner - Ages 4 to 7) Students learn beginning techniques of front crawl stroke, how to use a kick board, jumping in, safety skills, and rules. Max: 6
5. SUNFISH (Beginner IntermediateAges 5 to 9) Students work on front crawl stroke emphasizing kicking, breathing, arm stroke technique, safety skills, recovery after falling in deep water, and water safety tips. Max: 6

6. STING RAYS (IntermediateAges 6 to 10) Students review and improve on front crawl and learn backstroke. Introduced to deeper water, safety skills and rules. Max: 6
7. BARRACUDAS (Advanced Intermediate - Ages 7 to 12) Students review backstroke and front crawl skills. Large emphasis on safety, how to start a dive, and by the end of class the ability should be achieved to swim 25 yards of front crawl. Max: 8
8. DOLPHINS (Pre-Swim TeamAges 8 and up) Students review strokes, learn rescue backstroke, breaststroke, and underwater swimming. Max: 8
9. ADULT CLASS is designed for adults who want to learn to swim for the first time and would like to learn basic swimming techniques. The class will be tailored for each individual and is right for any adult who has the desire to learn, even those who may have a fear of the water. Safety skills are also included. Max: 6

ARCHERY
SABANA GRANDE RECREATION CENTER AGES 8 AND UP
ARCHERY
Basics of archery will be taught including range safety, equipment, rules, and form. Each week will focus on key components while shooting at targets of various sizes. Week one of every session is focused on the safety of the sport. Each student and parent will be asked to sign a safety agreement. Equipment is provided. Due to safety and space for all we ask that spectators stay behind the range in the safety zone. Classes are taught by USA Archery NTS certified archery coach.

Pre-Requisite - Must be signed off by Coach Suzanne prior to registering for this class for the first time. Archers must have their own equipment. No bows over 50lb draw weight. Now the challenge begins. This program is designed to be the step between Intermediate Archery and the Competitive side of the Archery Program. MIDDLE SCHOOL TEAM TENNIS
Join a team that will compete within Rio Rancho, Bernalillo, and Albuquerque. Teams will be co-ed, competing in singles and doubles play. Tennis experience is preferred, though not required. Both levels of experience are encouraged to also register for teen tennis lessons.
Sign up to compete for the middle school you attend: Mountain View, Rio Middle, Eagle Ridge, Lincoln, or ASK Academy. (Teams may be combined depending on enrollment and coaching availability).
Teams will practice or play matches on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school (coaches may use a different practice date based on mutual consent). Practice sites will be at middle schools with courts or the high schools. Matches will be at Rio Rancho High School, and at other area school sites. Transportation will not be provided. Coaches will issue a schedule once teams are formed. Season August 15 - October 22

ESCRIMA MARTIAL ARTS
Arnis, also known as Kali or Eskrima/Escrima, is the national martial art of the Philippines. The three are roughly interchangeable umbrella terms for the traditional martial arts of the Philippines (“Filipino Martial Arts”, or FMA), which emphasize weaponbased fighting with sticks, knives, and bladed weapons. SANTA FOR VETERANS IN THE HOSPITAL
Make the season bright by becoming a Santa for a Veteran in the VA Hospital. Fill a gift bag with a toothbrush, paste, deodorant, comb/brush, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, socks, a blanket, a book to read, a puzzle book or two and maybe some snacks, to help make the holidays a little brighter for the Veterans in the hospital. Many Veterans miss out on the companionship of family due to various circumstances.
Becoming a Santa is easy! Just bring your gift to Cabezon Community Center NO LATER than December 15th. The gifts will be taken to Veterans Hospital in Albuquerque on December 18th, so that they may receive their gifts on December 24th. You and your family will bring smiles to those who need it most this holiday season.

BROADMOOR / MEADOWLARK SENIOR CENTERS 55 AND OVER
The mission of the Division of Senior Services is to “promote positive aging.” In order to achieve that mission, the Division is tasked with developing the vision for programs and services for the older adult population. The Division is responsible for developing long-range plans; establishing collaborative relationships; obtaining state and federal grants; overseeing volunteer activities; and creating an administrative structure which includes developing policies and procedures and managing statistical information, financial records and databases.
MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Division of Senior Services Memberships are available to persons age 55 and over. There are no membership fees but you must register annually.
PROGRAM REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Registration is required for some senior programs. On the first Wednesday of each month at the Broadmoor Senior Center (BSC) from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and on the first Thursday of each month at the Meadowlark Senior Center (MSC) from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Members may also sign up for classes in person after 11:00 a.m. at the front desk, or by phone after 1:00 p.m. For more information about programs or registration, call 505-891-5050 (BSC) or 505-891-5018 (MSC).

If a refund is requested prior to the beginning of a class, activity, program, or trip and there is a member on the waiting list to fill the cancellation, a refund maybe received.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

THE SANDOVAL COUNTY SENIOR PROGRAM RIO RANCHO MEAL SITE
The meal site is located at MSC and provides nutritious lunches five days a week. Meals are available for those 60 and older for a suggested donation of $2. Homedelivered meals for those assessed as being home bound are also available. Call 505-896-8313 for details.
The City of Rio Rancho has two Senior Centers that provide a variety of life-long learning activities, programs, and services for Rio Rancho and area senior citizens. They provide health, fitness and nutrition classes; art, cultural and technology activities and classes; social activities and events and educational classes and programs for those 55 and over. Take advantage of some of the Senior Center’s trips and opportunities to keep your body and mind active!
HIKES
Each month, BSC/MSC offers hikes to interesting areas. Hikes range from gentle walks to moderate and difficult treks. Generally, we have a hike that will appeal to most levels of fitness.
LOW IMPACT STRENGTH & MOBILITY
Gain strength, flexibility, and mobility through low impact movement with a chair and more at MSC!
LIGHT YOGA
MSC Relieve stress and ease pain in this light-paced yoga class. Begin with peace and mindfulness, then dive into invigorating, yet gentle, movement and poses. End the session with quiet reflection. This is a mat class and is open to all levels. Please bring a yoga mat, a blanket, and water.
Hatha/Yin Yoga
Gentle stretches and poses performed on a yoga mat. Focus on increasing flexibility and strength, relaxing tense/ tight muscles, and finding inner peace and calmness. Great beginner class. Tuesdays 11:30 a.m. at BSC.
TAI CHI
A series of gentle physical exercises and stretches. Described as meditation in motion because it promotes serenity through gentle movements — connecting the mind and body. BSC offers Tai Chi Wednesdays.
ENHANCE FITNESS
New enrollment opens on Thursday, Aug. 10, for classes beginning Sept. 5. New participants must have a doctor’s note and complete assessment packet. Monday, Wednesday & Friday.
GENTLE MOVEMENT
At BSC this class offers a combination of seated yoga stretches and poses to increase flexibility, advancing to standing exercises and poses that focus on improving strength and balance. This class is open to all levels. Tuesdays.
MASSAGE THERAPY
Reduce stress, lessen pain and muscle tension, and improve immune function. Sessions are 45 minutes each MSC Tuesday & Thursday. Broadmoor Tuesday & Friday

HEARING & BALANCE SCREENINGS
Every month, MSC has an audiologist conducting hearing and balance screenings. Sign up at the front desk.
BROADWAY AND BEYOND!
We are privileged to live in a city that offers us opportunities to see Tony winning theatre productions as well as local performances. Join the fun as we frequent Popejoy Hall, Albuquerque Little Theatre, the Adobe Theater and more.
POETRY AND LYRICS SOCIETY
If you enjoy writing, reading or listening to poetry and lyrical scripts, this group is for you! Come and share or be shared with. Look out for Poetry Café every few meetings where you can listen to the work of your fellow group mates every other Friday.
MOVIES
Once a month MSC and BSC has an afternoon showing of a recently released movie complete with popcorn.
AARP DRIVERS SAFETY
Sharpen your driving skills with techniques to help keep you safe on the road. This class is offered once a month at both BSC and MSC.
CALLIGRAPHY
If you’ve been one to enjoy filling out forms or writing in a journal for the joy of creating fine penmanship, this class is for you! With each series, you will learn a different style of calligraphy. Past styles have been Foundational Calligraphy, Italic Hand and Uncial.

PING PONG
MSC offers ping pong. This enthusiastic group is always welcoming new players. Make new friends and have fun!
BILLIARDS
MSC has a Billiards Room that features four beautiful pool tables and all the equipment you need to play a game.
CHESS (MSC)
Known as the game of kings, chess is a classic game that challenges your mind. Whether you are a seasoned knight or a beginning pawn, this welcoming group will always have you for a game!
