INCLUSION

Registration for Spring 2024 opens on Monday, January 8.

Registration is online at www.rrnm.gov/ActiveNet or in-person at the Parks and Recreation Office, 3200 Civic Center Circle NE, Suite 100. Registration deadlines are listed with each program in Active Net. Programs fill up quickly so please register early!

All registration or participation fees shall be paid at the time of registration and prior to participation in any program or activity.

Please review the Aquatic Center schedule for evening and weekend registration. For your convenience we accept VISA, Master Card, Discover, American Express, cash, money orders, and cashiers checks.

The City of Rio Rancho assumes no liability for any claims that may arise from participation in any program or activity listed in this brochure. Any check returned as

Inclusion for special needs populations will be a standard for all Rio Rancho Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department programs. If special accommodations are required, please inform staff upon registration.

REFUND POLICY

Refunds are granted if the request is prior to the registration deadline and the withdrawal is not detrimental to the program. There will be an administrative fee for withdrawals of $15 per withdrawal, some refund fees for program with a lower price will be adjusted based on the program fee.

If a refund is requested after the registration deadline and it is determined that the refund will be detrimental to the program (i.e. group rates based upon registration numbers), then no refund may be given.

If refunds are requested prior to the service starting and there are participants willing to take the space of the person requesting the refund, then a refund may be processed with a $15 administrative fee. If a refund request is made after the start of the service, a pro-rated fee may be refunded and the new person filling the vacancy may pay a pro-rated registration fee.

RIO RANCHO AQUATIC CENTER – OPEN YEAR-ROUND

SPRING OPERATING HOURS

RECREATION SWIM (all ages)* Friday: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: 12 noon to 6 p.m.

All swimmers and non-swimmers must pay to enter the facility during recreation swim hours. *Swimmers ages 12 and under must be accompanied by a responsible person 16 years of age or older at all times.

LAP SWIM (adults only; first come, first serve; lane sharing will be allowed) Monday - Thursday: 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Friday: 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: 12 noon to 6 p.m.

Number of available lanes varies throughout the day.

Two lap lanes available Monday-Friday between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Aquatic Center is closed on all observed city holidays.

The Aquatic Center will be closed the first Monday of every month until 2 p.m. for pool maintenance.

The Aquatic Center is closed Monday - Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. *Passes can be used at all pools.

FAMILY PASS Family Pass for up to five immediate family members, $10 for each additional immediate family member.

Passes can also be used at all the outdoor pools during the summer season.

AQUACISE

AQUACISE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

AQUA ZUMBA: It’s a party in the pool integrating the Zumba formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness movements. It is a safe, challenging workout that’s cardio-conditioning, bodytoning and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief.

AQUA FITNESS: Low impact, high/low intensity, upright, shallow water workout set to music held in the recreation pool.

CLASS MEMBERSHIP:

INDOOR CYCLING Whether you’re an experienced outdoor cyclist or your feet haven’t touched the pedals since you were a kid. The indoor group cycling provides you with a fantastic cardiovascular workout. A key to a healthy body and strong heart. Padded cycling shorts and heart rate monitors are recommended but not required. All fitness levels are welcome. *Please arrive at least 5 minutes early to allow for proper bike set-up.

CIRCUIT CITY This class is the perfect combination of heart pumping cardio and resistance training. You’ll hit every muscle group as you burn calories zipping through stations of different fitness equipment that may include TRX Suspension Ropes, Kettle bells, medicine balls, jump ropes, and weights. This class is ideal for both men and women of all fitness levels who want total body results in a limited amount of time.

YOGA Enjoy a gentle flow in motion followed by a substantial and soothing sequence of seated poses that leave you feeling complete and nourished. Personal mats are encouraged but not required. Maximum participants: 12 CLASS TIMES: 10:00 a.m. - Mondays and Wednesdays

SOUND HEALING A hybrid class that combines sound healing through auditory tones and vibrational frequencies with guided meditation and light yoga. This class explores your spiritual side and helps connect you to your higher self by going inward and expanding your consciousness.

LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM REGISTRATION

1. PARENT AND TOT (Ages 6 months-3 years) Parent must accompany child in the water.

Goals include water adjustment, getting in/out, doggie paddle, and safety skills. Max: 10

2. TADPOLES (Preschool - Ages 3 to 5) Students learn basic water skills, water acclimation, submerging, breath control, and safety skills/ rules on their own. Max: 6

Please read the following descriptions to determine what class best fits your child’s abilities. Age levels are given to serve as guidelines. Place children in the level that is most appropriate. Staff will make any necessary adjustments during the classes to assure your child has the best experience. *Participants must fall in the age range and successfully completed each previous level to advance to next class.

3. SEA SHELLS (Early beginners Ages 4 to 7) Students learn basic water skills, floating, submerging, breath holding, safety skills, and rules. Max: 6 4. SEA HORSES (Beginner - Ages 4 to 7) Students learn beginning techniques of front crawl stroke, how to use a kick board, jumping in, safety skills, and rules. Max: 6 5. SUNFISH (Beginner Intermediate Ages 5 to 9) Students work on front crawl stroke emphasizing kicking, breathing, arm stroke technique, safety skills, recovery after falling in deep water, and water safety tips.

6. STING RAYS (Intermediate Ages 6 to 10) Students review and improve on front crawl and learn backstroke. Introduced to deeper water, safety skills and rules. Max: 6 7. BARRACUDAS (Advanced Intermediate - Ages 7 to 12) Students review backstroke and front crawl skills. Large emphasis on safety, how to start a dive, and by the end of class the ability should be achieved to swim 25 yards of front crawl. Max: 8 8. DOLPHINS (Pre-Swim Team Ages 8 and up) Students review strokes, learn rescue backstroke, breaststroke, and underwater swimming. Max: 8 9. ADULT CLASS is designed for adults who want to learn to swim for the first time and would like to learn basic swimming techniques. The class will be tailored for each individual and is right for any adult who has the desire to learn, even those who may have a fear of the water. Safety skills are also included. Max: 6

INLINE SKATING Learn the fundamentals of inline skating in this class taught by Desert Sol Inline. This beginner skating class will use fun and interactive games that emphasize balance and movement. A small number of inline skates are available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own inline skates and safety equipment (helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads). KOURT KIDS Kids will learn valuable skills in dribbling, passing, and shooting while being introduced to a game like situation.

ARCHERY SABANA GRANDE RECREATION CENTER AGES 8 AND UP ARCHERY Basics of archery will be taught including range safety, equipment, rules, and form. Each week will focus on key components while shooting at targets of various sizes. Week one of every session is focused on the safety of the sport. Each student and parent will be asked to sign a safety agreement. Equipment is provided. Due to safety and space for all we ask that spectators stay behind the range in the safety zone.

TENNIS HAYNES PARK & RIO RANCHO SPORTS COMPLEX AGES 12 AND UP ADULT TENNIS It’s never too late to pursue tennis, or to get back into playing the sport of a lifetime. Instruction is a fun way of making new companions or to renew connections after some time off.

Beginners: New to the game; perhaps wanting to brush up after having been absent from the game; have played but never received instruction; or not yet prepared for more advanced play (inconsistent strokes, especially serve).

Intermediates: Returning to the game to advance your basic tennis skills, play short games, learn to move more smoothly on the tennis courts, or to prepare for competition.

TEEN TENNIS Let your adolescent learn, or improve their past experience with, the sport of a lifetime.

Beginners: Learn the basic strokes, how to move on the court, begin to learn scoring and point play. Also, if you have taken previous instruction but not consistent enough with strokes, specially serve, to take more advanced instruction.

Intermediates: For those who have taken previous instruction and have demonstrated some consistent strokes. Also, for those who played “green ball” for their Middle School team. Students can expect continued stroke and court movement instruction and more point and game playing.

Advanced: Aimed at those who have played JV/varsity tennis, yellow ball Middle School tennis interested in playing JV/ Varsity, or others by permission of the instructor. SOUND HEALING WITH DONNA Sound healing is an ancient practice that harnesses the power of sound vibrations to promote healing and relaxation. It involves lying down in a cozy and comfortable setting, closing our eyes, and focusing on sounds made by music instruments like chimes, gongs, and singing bowls .

Sound vibrations have a pretty powerful effect on our minds and bodies. Sound bath will involve lying in a reclining position after taking part in yoga or meditation exercises.

SENIORS BROADMOOR / MEADOWLARK SENIOR CENTERS 55 AND OVER The mission of the Division of Senior Services is to “promote positive aging.” In order to achieve that mission, the Division is tasked with developing the vision for programs and services for the older adult population. The Division is responsible for developing long-range plans; establishing collaborative relationships; obtaining state and federal grants; overseeing volunteer activities; and creating an administrative structure which includes developing policies and procedures and managing statistical information, financial records and databases.

MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION INFORMATION Division of Senior Services Memberships are available to persons age 55 and over. There are no membership fees but you must register annually.

PROGRAM REGISTRATION INFORMATION Registration is required for some senior programs. On the first Wednesday of each month at the Broadmoor Senior Center (BSC) from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. and on the first Thursday of each month at the Meadowlark Senior Center (MSC) from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Members may also sign up for classes in person after 3:30 p.m. at the front desk, or by phone after 4:00 p.m. For more information about programs or registration, call 505-891-5050 (BSC) or 505-891-5018 (MSC).

REFUND POLICY If a refund is requested prior to the beginning of a class, activity, program, or trip and there is a member on the waiting list to fill the cancellation, a refund maybe received.

PHOTO POLICY By participating in classes, activities, clubs, trips, and other senior services programs, members are agreeing to permit photos/videos to be taken.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES The Senior Volunteer Program promotes the skills and talents of its participants. Volunteers serve as leaders and teachers and assist with the daily operations of the Center. Please call 505-891-5018 for more information.

THE SANDOVAL COUNTY SENIOR PROGRAM RIO RANCHO MEAL SITE The meal site is located at MSC and provides nutritious lunches five days a week. HIKES Each month, BSC/MSC offers hikes to interesting areas. Hikes range from gentle walks to moderate and difficult treks. Generally, we have a hike that will appeal to most levels of fitness.

LOW IMPACT STRENGTH & MOBILITY Gain strength, flexibility, and mobility through low impact movement with a chair and more at MSC! LIGHT YOGA MSC Relieve stress and ease pain in this light-paced yoga class. Begin with peace and mindfulness, then dive into invigorating, yet gentle, movement and poses. End the session with quiet reflection. This is a mat class and is open to all levels. Please bring a yoga mat, a blanket, and water.

Hatha/Yin Yoga Gentle stretches and poses performed on a yoga mat. Focus on increasing flexibility and strength, relaxing tense/ tight muscles, and finding inner peace and calmness. Great beginner class. Tuesdays 11:30 a.m. at BSC.

GENTLE MOVEMENT At BSC this class offers a combination of seated yoga stretches and poses to increase flexibility, advancing to standing exercises and poses that focus on improving strength and balance. This class is open to all levels. Tuesdays.

MASSAGE THERAPY Reduce stress, lessen pain and muscle tension, and improve immune function.

Sessions are 45 minutes each MSC Tuesday & Thursday.

MOVIES Once a month MSC and BSC has an afternoon showing of a recently released movie complete with popcorn.

AARP DRIVERS SAFETY Sharpen your driving skills with techniques to help keep you safe on the road. This class is offered once a month at both BSC and MSC. CALLIGRAPHY If you’ve been one to enjoy filling out forms or writing in a journal for the joy of creating fine penmanship, this class is for you! With each series, you will learn a different style of calligraphy.

Past styles have been Foundational Calligraphy, Italic Hand and Uncial.

TAI CHI A series of gentle physical exercises and stretches. Described as meditation in motion because it promotes serenity through gentle movements — connecting the mind and body. BSC offers Tai Chi Wednesdays.
