When did this Christmas tree tradition start for your family?

I have been in love with Christmas all my life. As a child I made ornaments from all different kinds of materials. This love of crafting has continued throughout my life. How did the idea come about to do a different tree for each room?

When my son, now 26, was diagnosed with allergy problems at the age of two, we knew we could no longer have a live tree. Looking back I believe that was when my “problem truly began. So, it's really his fault. Man, I love that boy! Artificial trees were just too easy. We had two that first year. I would wait for Hobby Lobby to mark them way down in January and then buy some more. Before I realized it there were about 20 trees in the garage. Oops! Decorating them was never an issue because, remember, I am a craft person. How many decorated trees do you have in your home?

The number of trees we have each year varies. I alone do all the work, so there is only one rule I live by. I set trees up and decorate them as long as it is fun. When the fun stops so do I. (Unless I have run out of space, trees or decorations.) This year there are 14 fullsize decorated trees. What is the significance or story behind each tree?

My husband and I enjoy vacationing in Cabo, Mexico. Therefore, we have one tree dedicated to Cabo. We also have a 12-foottall “I would rather be by the sea tree. Collecting things for these trees has been a blast! Of course, the entire den is our Roll Tide Room, which has a 12-foot Alabama football tree. Our bedroom has a snowman theme, and the kitchen has a harvest theme. Our older son David Jr.’s tree is a mixture of favorite things, from his childhood to CBHS cheerleading memories to a Texas touch. Both our boys live in Dallas now. Our other son Christopher is our golfer, so naturally, he has a golf-themed tree. Why is this tradition so important to your family?

Not having come from the happiest of homes, I have striven to make our home a place our children will always want to come back to. Everyone gets such pleasure from the decorations here that I don’t see how I could not do it! %FDFNCFS t BUIPNFNNT DPN ] 0DUPCFS t BUIPNFNNT DPN ]
