WELCOME ! !

I have a strong and long track record, I have played club soccer since age 6, as a player and a team leader on a variety of different kinds of soccer teams: national teams, school teams, and regional club teams. I have been the captain or co- captain of five different teams, including my current high school team, as well as the Berlin club teams Hertha 03 and RSV Eintracht. I was one of the twenty two young players nationwide to be selected to play on the top roster of the Czech National team. Last year as well as this year I was named most valuable player for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons at the spring ceremony of 2013. In spring 2014 I was accepted to become a member of the Kaptiva Soccer Academy in Barcelona, Spain, where I will train under proffessional coaches for the whole of the 2014-2015 season. The more I play, the more I want to continue playing and improving my feet. I am a team player, well respected by my teammates, as evidenced by their repeated selection of me as their captain. My specific strengths on the field are passing, vision, tactical awareness, tackling and what my coaches have referred to as “football intelligence, the ability to read the game and spot channels through which to play the ball. In recent years I have been working on speed and explosion and have enjoyed the experience of progressing and developing in those areas.

In the future I want to be a soccer player and I need to know what my body needs and how I can provide this to my body. I need to know what muscles are which and what helps them recover the best.I also need to know how to stay motivated and mentally strong as an athlete. This is why I would want to study either Sports psychology or Sports Physiotherapy, I would like to get a Masters in one of these fields.

“I have been encouraged in recent years to witness soccer’s popularity and prominence in the US edge a little closer to the near-monopolistic level of popularity it enjoys in Europe. I am eager to take what I have learned from my 12 years of playing highly competitive club soccer in Europe and to apply it in the university context of the United States.”

“While I have spent part of my life living in the Czech Republic, I have never resided in my other homeland, the USA. My hope is that the college experience, the soccer opportunities, and the world-leading level of university education available in the US could help me fulfill some or all of my life dreams, in particular that of becoming a physiotherapist (in sports medicine or otherwise) and even of playing soccer professionally in the US after college.

Interview

! !

What makes you different? My family background and personal history have motivated my decision to pursue a life studying and playing soccer as a college student in the United States of America. I have a complex intersectional identity--soccer player, student, brother, son, half-Czech, half-American, part German high school student--and one important “section of that identity is my Americanness, instilled in me through my upbringing. My mother is Czech but my father is American.

! !

Why do you want to compete in college? I want to compete in college to be able to do what I love, to play soccer and study at the same time. I have been trying to balance these two areas from early on in my life.
US colleges are unique in allowing athletes to do sports and study in one place. College goals?

!

My college goals will be to be a successful and positive learner in class and try to take in as much as I can. While out on the sports field where I have more confidence I will want to show what I am made of and compete to be the number 1 athlete in the college. Life goals?

!

My main life goal is to be a professional soccer player and one day either represent the Czech Republic or the USA, in a World Cup. I would also like to contribute to sport in the future as a sports psychologist or physiotherapist and perhaps as a coach.
