ANNI AND BERT A Weaving Story

Bert, a bird, wakes up one morning in his drafty, rattling nest. He steps out of bed, and his foot goes right through the floor. Out in search of materials to repair his nest, he flies into the artist Anni Albers’s empty studio and makes a mess of things, tangling yarns and strings, and eventually getting stuck in the loom. Anni returns and frees him from the loom, and together they consider what a weaving is, and what makes textiles useful. Bert flies home with new ideas for fixing his nest, and creates something special that’s suited just for him.
A colorful exploration of Anni Albers’s artwork and influences, this book walks young readers through the fundamentals of weaving and introduces them to a world of textiles.
