Spring Season Competitions Women’s Lacrosse Sam Pawlovich, Club Council Rep

As the spring season is beginning for Women’s Lacrosse, we are coming closer and closer to starting our competition season. For Women’s Lacrosse a majority of our games come in the form of tournaments, but each tournament is different. Another change is that Women’s Lacrosse is now in the D1 section, which adds the expected level of play. Not only are the locations different there are always different teams to play against, different weather conditions, different players to go against, and different players that you will be playing with, as well. With each tournament there is always a specific feeling that can be used to describe them. Last year at the UNC Wilmington Tournament I remember just how beautiful it felt to go from playing on the fields, hustling to get to score goals, to going to the beach with my fellow teammates and simply enjoying the day. And this year at the NC State Tournament the word for me was

hot. The temperature had flared in Raleigh, while Boone remained in the mid 40s. To say the least, I was unprepared for the high temperatures and extra effort that it required. Although I remember the NC State Tournament as hot, I also remember having a lot of fun hanging out on the field before and in between games and back at the hotel as well. Again, we are at a different college and a different set of teams to play against. We will be playing at the UNC Chapel Hill Tournament from February 29th to March 1st. We have been practicing hard to prepare for the tournament and cannot wait to see what it holds for us. There are new girls on the team this semester and it is always interesting and fun to be able to see how players will connect passes and plays to accomplish a shared goal. When those connections happen, you can see the player’s eyes light up in recognition of an even greater season to come.
