Duringthepresentation,thespeakershighlightedhowcriticalitistosubstantiallyincreasefemale participationinthesecurityindustry–asectorwherewomenareunder-representedatalllevels andwherethisisacutelythecaseinmorechallengingcontextsinhighthreatenvironments,where socio-culturalissuesalsofrequentlyactasabarrier.
Thesessionwasdesignedtoexaminebarriersto,andenablersof,greaterfemaleengagementin thesector OurspeakersusedarealcasestudyoftheWomeninSecurityprogramdeliveredin SouthSudan,aswellasexploredhowthelearningfromthatprogramhadapplicationinmany othercontexts,includingdomesticallyintheU.S.

ItissaidthatTra mostimportantinvestmentthatanyInstitutioncan investintheirint Training&Developmentisthatenormousvaluemust beplaceonthevalueofproperlyorganizedtraininganddevelopmentforstakeholderswithintheSecurity Industry.Thesetrainingwillallowtrainees(SecurityOfficers)toacquirenewskillswhilesharpeningexisting skillstoaddressanygapsthatmaybeidentified Thebenefitsthatcanbederivebutnotlimitedto:
•Betterperformance
•Improvefinancialperformance
•Motivatedteammembers
•Increaseproductivity
Thiswillallowteammemberstostayingupdatedandaheadwithtechnologicaladvancement. Globalizationbringsawiderrangeofgoods,services,vendors,suppliers,capital,partnersandcustomers withinthereachofasecurityprovider’sreach.Itwillalsobringsthreatscloserandmayincrease vulnerabilities Therefore,globalizationmakesitnecessaryforassetsprotectionpractitionerstoconsider upgradingtheirsecurityskillsetthroughtraininganddevelopment.Itisforthisreasonthattherenowned poetJohnDonneoncewrote,“Nomanisanislandnomanstandsalone”whichhasencouragedthestrong beliefsIholdintheimportanceofsupportingandempoweringoneanotherinwhateverwedo.
CountriesaroundtheworldincludingJamaicaislookingnowmorethanevertoincreasesuchasprivate policinginpublicenvironmentinthefightagainstcrimeandviolence Theprivatesecurityindustryneedto prepareforthistransitionwhichofcourseisnotanewone.ForexamplethetownsofReminderville,Ohioand Sussex,NewJersey,whichfiredtheirpoliceofficersandhiredsecuritypersonnelintheirplace,Thesecurity officerspatrolledtown,answeredcallsforservice,tookreportandmadearrest.Theprivatesecurity personnelweretrainedandpreparedtoactasasubstituteforpublicpoliceeventhopughitwasshortlived.
Therefore,TrainingandDevelopmentcannolongerbeseenasaprivilegewithinorganizationsbutasthe vehicleforbuildingcapacityofthehumancapitalformaneuveringthecurrentandfuturechallenges The timeisathandforthesecurityindustrytoinstitutionalizecoordinationandcontinuedcorporationbetween privatesecurityandpolicepersonnelthroughstructuredtraininganddevelopmentassociatedwith contractualrelationships.
