Continuing Education as a Critical Part of Professional Development in Security
In response to professional needs and expectations received from the Security Industry colleagues at GSX 2022 in Atlanta, ASIS International Professional Development Community (PDC) initiated in 2023 series of educational and awareness sessions aiming to engage subject matter experts into discussions on key security topics of common interest.
By Viktor Panchak, CPP Head of PDC Continuing Education Group
To meet this objective, 2023 Continuing Education Curriculum was developed and aligned with the PDC Steering Committee.
It includes one essential training activity per quarter in the form of webinar. Each 90minute webinar will consist of two educational sessions with two qualified speakers, and it is eligible for 1.5 CPE credit.
In line with the Curriculum, Q1 webinar was held on 01st of March. Its topic was “ESRM and Security Cultures: Leadership and Business Growth”. Our key-note speakers were Jon Harris and John Rodriquez. In this webinar, our experts discussed how today’s security leaders’ ESRM extends beyond tools and systems, to include holistic strategies that support both business growth and workplace culture. The record of the webinar is available on-demand at the Learning Catalogue. The webinar was attended by 240 live participants, and it received positive feedback.
Q2 webinar is scheduled for 7th of June 2023 and our preliminary topics will be: (a) “How to Succeed in Transiting from Public Sector to Private Security” – with Melissa Mack from Pinkerton, USA; and (b) “Shaping Incident Management and Crisis Preparedness”, considering the latest tragic earthquake crisis in Turkey and Syria and its implication for the safety of people and continuity of operation. Our speaker will be Yacine Benamane from Unilever, UAE.
Those interested in joining the PDC Continuing Education team and helping us to promote security awareness please contact the PDC Steering Committee.

Ralph Day Memorial Security Officer Heroism Award
Each year, one Security Officer is recognized for outstanding service/acts in the security profession by the Security Services Community (SSC) through the Ralph Day Memorial Security Heroism Award.
The Ralph Day Memorial Security Officers Heroism Award is presented annually to a front line security officer who has performed in a superior, gallant or heroic manner in the course of his or her duties and, in doing so, has far exceeded the expectations of their position and training. The award is meant to recognize an individual who performed a heroic act which involved circumstances where a private security officer risks his or her life or personal well-being to save another person.
• Nominations are accepted from ASIS members in good standing, contract security firm management, or contract security firm clients.
The Security Services Community will present the Ralph Day Award recipient with a monetary award generously provided by the sponsor, a commemorative plaque, and a trip to the Global Security Exchange (GSX) which will include a Full Access Pass to the conference and 3 nights hotel accommodations. A travel expense stipend for the award winner may also be awarded by the sponsor.
