ow it's time to say Good bye and Thank you for all your support and continued membership of ASID OC. It has been both an Honor and a Privilege to be your President for the 20192020 term.

The Orange County Chapter of ASID is strong, vital and very successful; and that is thanks to you, its' Members, Students, Industry Partners and Media Partners. Without your support ASID OC would not exist. We are very fortunate here in Orange County. During this past year many ASID Chapters across the United States lost Board members, Industry Partners, laid off their Chapter Administrators and many of their members stop paying their dues. We didn't have any of that and I thank you. With ASID National taking the helm by providing almost daily information to help your business and to answer any questions you may have regarding keeping your business running during the Pandemic, we at Orange County were able to focus on keeping our Chapter intact. The position of President of this Chapter affords one many opportunities to increase not only our personal business but to raise the awareness of ASID and the professionalism that we strive to maintain. Professionalism and Education are at the core of what ASID strives for. More then socializing and networking (but we do like that) it is our commitment to professionalism in our business practices that separates us, ASID members, from nonmembers. It is our duty to explain to our Clients, Vendors, Trades.. any business that provides goods and services to the Interior Design Industry that we at ASID are the epitome of Professionalism. Board Members all take an oath to uphold the Chapter, it’s Members, the Board and President. No gossipy coffee klatch for us... Hopefully this is one of my legacies. No gossip, no drama. Just professionals dedicated to raising the awareness of Interior Design and Designers. Thank you again for making this a spectacular year for me. I will always remember and cherish all our members true volunteer spirt. Bill out .... William Elson, Allied ASID President 2019-2020

reetings!

The words and phrases “pivot”, “new normal”, “positivity”, “isolation”, “WFH”, “Inclusion”, “Diversity”, “pandemic”, “leadership”, and “engagement” are just a few of the powerful words we hear often during this unprecedented year. We’ve all faced challenges at some point when our world came to a severe halt. Disconnection. Disengagement. Disenfranchised. And yet, in the chaos there have been good things as well. We learned about resiliency and courage. About how much we miss togetherness and the value of connection. The incoming board is a group of smart, talented and highly capable women. Jessica, Sue, Alix, Jenna, Angela and Isa we are in this together. We are facing the challenge of defining a new normal, maintaining the strength of the chapter, and using creativity as the link that bonds us all. Our strengths as individuals and our collaboration as a board, will keep us moving forward into the unknown of the next year. We have worked hard on the strategic plan to keep the chapter not only solvent but thriving. We have plans to bring diverse content tailored for how you want to connect. We are providing avenues to Industry Partners to reach our designer members. We are forming partnerships across the industry to grow our reach and we are showing the design community that ASID OC is the cool place to be. In challenging times, community is what sustains us. Together is our strength. The first quarter of the new term will feature two virtual events per month. What better way to reconnect than a craft project? To laugh, have fun, and create. Together. Alix and her team have something for everybody. Members will also have the opportunity to learn with engaging topics and powerful speakers. We are working on a fun outdoor CDC compliant tailgater holiday event. 2nd quarter will bring small inperson showroom gatherings and a continuation of virtual learning. 3rd quarter brings a new version of the Expo called 30 for 30. Jenna and her chairs will design a whole new way of attending the trade show. We have a new competitive event based on the television show Making It. We felt it was time to bring back Community Service. Sue and Jessica have something great up their sleeves, completely relevant. We are taking ourselves direct to the students. We have Farida Gabdrakhmanova partnering with Isa this year and students get ready! We are tailoring content to you. Finally, some annual events will have some fluidity. The coming year is an abyss of the unknown. Dine by Design is slotted to return for late summer. Design Awards will happen. What it looks like…well, we’ll see. And Gala, let’s just say it going to require creativity one way or another. Lastly, how do we leave the chapter better? As Kobe Bryant said, “Do the simple stuff right.” Kendrick Lamar's tribute to him affected me profoundly. How can I be better? How can I help others to be better? Be better a friend. Better designer. Better leader. Better mentor. Better wife, daughter, sister, stepmother. Better us. We must all strive to be better than ourselves yesterday. Be better at helping, contributing, shaping, lending a hand. This is our time. We will grow future leaders. We will demonstrate the value and impact of design. I challenge you, our membership, to get involved. Be part of our community and helps us sustain the movement forward. We need you. I am honored, and challenged, to guide this amazing group through the daunting year ahead of us. I am confident and proud to share this test with some pretty special board members. My goal is to hand Jessica Jones, President Elect, a chapter that is healthy and flourishing. So, let’s do this! Julia Alt, Allied ASID President Elect 2020

s ASID OC’s new incoming Finance Director for the new 2020-2021 term, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and welcome you all to the new term. We look forward to an interesting year as it seems we will have the current pandemic situation lingering for awhile longer. With that being said, we have been hard at work researching new ways that we can gather safely together and still maintain the level of professionalism you have come to expect of us.

One of the biggest challenges we face as a chapter is the ability to keep our income fluid while providing professional, interesting, and timely events as we navigate this new normal. Many chapters are not doing well financially and have lost memberships. We have been doing well. A percentage of membership dollars that we receive from National ASID has helped to fund our chapters but this has been a tough year and not as generous as in the past. We need to keep our programs going and many of our IP’s have stepped up to offer assistance in this area through sponsorship of events to help keep our costs to a minimum, giving us the ability to create an avenue for income. We are continuing to investigate other ideas to supplement this as well. We will be providing several opportunities to meet, virtually, through the end of the year. Several will be educational, featuring a timely speaker. Several will be more social in nature. All, we hope, will provide us the necessary income to continue to keep our chapter healthy. The most important thing we felt as a board is that we continue to meet regularly and keep the cohesiveness of the group. We’re hoping with the new year, we will be able to meet in person as we have in the past. Looking forward to a healthy and safe year ahead! Sue Rexroth, Allied ASID Finance Director 2020-2022

Recharged ASID OC! We’ve had a little down time as ASID OC has been navigating through these challenging times. We now have a new ASID OC President, Board, Chairs, and Industry Partners who have been busy planning innovative, fun activities, and events to get our members excited to participate again in our chapter. October we will be having a virtual Pumpkin/ Succulent project to get you started on your holiday decor. Also, planned will be speakers with ideas and inspiration to get you back on track with your design business. A Holiday event is also in the planning. The New Year will bring a twist on our annual Trade Show. In addition, a design competition to test your creativity. The OC ASID new term President, Board, Chairpersons and Industry Partners are ready to recharge the chapter, and reconnect you to your OC ASID Family.
