GCSE EXAMS

HEADTEACHER Dear Parents/Carers, Year 10 examinations are now in full flight and it has been great to see how all students are trying to do well. Our Year 11’s are coming to the end of their examination season and once again I would like to commend them on their excellent attitude. Another fantastic week in school saw many sporting events and visits taking place, however I was extremely pleased with the growing number of students who attended the Children’s University Graduation. Finally commiserations to England who are now all but out of the World Cup, however miracles can happen... Best Wishes,

Barry Bridden, Headteacher

YEAR 8 & 10 Rounders Well done to the Year 10 and Year 8 girls who this week took part in the Knowsley Rounders Tournament. Both teams worked extememly hard and put up a good fight. Our congratulations go out to the winners Halewood Academy and Kirby High School who now go through to the Merseyside round of the competition.

YEAR 9 VISIT ‘SKILLS SHOW’ On Tuesday 17th June, Miss Rogers and Mrs Kelly took thirty three Year 9 students to the 'Skills Show' at Aintree Racecourse. The event, organised by the Liverpool City Region Employment and Skills Board, was an interactive Careers Event aimed at young people in the region to advise them on future career opportunities available. A number of areas had been identified where future jobs are expected to increase – the Visitor Economy (tourism, hospitality and retail), Super Port (marine, logistics and warehousing), Life Sciences (health, biomedical sciences), Advanced Manufacturing (engineering), Financial & Professional Services (banking, insurance, legal) and Low Carbon (energy generation and distribution).

Our students were able to 'have a go' at many of the interactive activities, from wheelchair basketball and changing a car tyre, to rock climbing and driving a bus!

Star players:

The whole afternoon was enjoyed by all students who came away buzzing with ideas of what they would like to do in the future.

Once again, Year 9 students were an absolute credit to Lord Derby Academy and many staff there commented on how mature and respectful our students were.

Miss Rogers would like to thank Mrs Kelly, Mrs Sullivan and all our students who attended, making the afternoon very enjoyable.
