LETTER FROM THE EDITORS

Hello CNH Bees!

First off, we would like to thank everyone who attended Fall Rally North and Fall Rally South. Despite the rain at both rallies, we were able to fundraise over $80,000 for Pediatric Trauma Prevention. We broke ticket sale records this year and sold more tickets than any of the previous years! Congratulations CNH! If you have not already paid your dues, it is imperative that you pay dues as soon as possible to receive all the benefits as an official Key Club member. Remember, dues can be turned in yearround, so do not hesitate to submit in dues even though the On-Time deadline has already passed. Continue to serve this holiday season! During this time of the year, more families will need your help more than ever. Organize and participate in service projects this month with your club, division, or region. Some project ideas are Caroling for Cans, Canned Food Drives, Gift-Wrapping, helping at a local Soup Kitchen or Food Bank, and more! Be creative! We hope you all have a wonderful holiday season with your family and friends, and enjoy the rest of the month! Buzzin’ with spirit, Your 2010-2011 Executive Board, Governor Diana Nguyen Secretary Breigh Dang Treasurer Hue Tran Technology Editor Andrew Shin

EXECUTIVE PRESIDENTS AND REPORT VICE PRESIDENTS WORDS FROM THE

THE DGOV

TO OFFICERS

G r e e t i n g s M e m b e r s ! This holiday season should come with many service opportunities. If you come across any, notify your president and vice president. Your help would be greatly appreciated. You never know if they are scrambling to look for community service events. Many do scramble and they just do a good job keeping it a secret. It should not be intimidating to speak with the president. In fact, it is good to keep him/her close because if you choose to run for a Key Club position, he/she could possibly help you. Suggest ideas to your club board members. If you were in their shoes, you would wish for feedback, suggestions, and ideas. If you did not like something, speak to them about it! It is possible. Do not be afraid to voice your opinions. Also! Do not be afraid to show your enthusiasm. Hyping up a service event brings more people. Advertise the events through your face book status: Today, I am spending the day with Key Club Christmas caroling. It gets the word out and notifies your friend that you are doing something cool. Don’t be afraid; express it!

Hello Presidents and Vice Presidents By now your dues must be sent. If you have not sent your dues, send them in now. For those who do have their key club dues paid- good and thank you very much! You are now official members! If your dues have not been sent, this shows that there is a problem. The question is, “Did you delegate work?” Keep in mind that there are five months left to your term. Before it is over and time slips by, think about what legacy you would like to leave behind. Do you want to be known as just another president? You could organize one successful publicity committee, think of a club cheer, and make your first ever club shirts. Your actions will be remembered if they step away from the traditional. Don’t be afraid to share new ideas and do not be afraid to ask for feedback. When delegating work you must be tactful. The next challenge that comes is getting your idea started. Tell your board members about this; do not keep it to yourself. If you think your board members do not care, it doesn’t hurt to tell them. They may even complain that you do not tell them anything. So between the president and vice president (or multiple vice presidents), a lot of conversation should be going on and of course with the entire board. It is scary to think about; however, you have five months left to leave a footprint.

Service Ideas: Christmas Caroling:

(I sing horribly, but no one cared because the majority sang just like me!)

EXECUTIVE REPORT SECRETARIES and TREASURERS WORDS FROM THE

THE SECRETARY

TO OFFICERS

Greetings Beautiful CNH Bees! I would like to wish you all very happy holidays! Winter Break is coming up, so make sure you spend some time to volunteer. It’s the holidays, a time for giving. Try your best to give back to your community and put a smile on someone’s face. With the November dues deadline passed, I hope many of you have already paid your dues. If so, great job and congratulations on becoming official Key Club members! For those who have not, it is okay! You still have time to pay your dues, so make sure you do it as soon as possible. As official Key Club members, it is recommended that you serve at least fifty community service hours! Please strive to achieve this accomplishment for it is very little. A big opportunity this coming month for those of you living in Southern California is the Pasadena Rose Floats! But there are a lot more opportunities that any club can do: caroling, Christmas baskets, and much more. Go out and do some good! Santa Claus will surely reward you on Christmas!

Hello there CNH Secretaries! Happy Holidays! It is surely getting cold, so stay warm and remember to spread the warmth around. Go out and do some service to get smiles on people’s faces! With the club dues deadline floating around these months, please make sure to work with your club treasurer to keep a club roster! You should be filling out the club roster form in your Monthly Report Forms (MRF). For those of you who attended Fall Rally South, I would like to congratulate you for making it a very successful event. Cal-Nev-Ha, we are getting closer to our Pediatric Trauma Program goal of $100,000! Keep it up and lets try to go above and beyond it! Lastly, though not all clubs and divisions can attend this event, please remember that Rose Float Decorating is a big opportunity for club members to achieve the recommended fifty hours. It is in Pasadena, California, and they have ten-hour shifts open. Make sure to contact your president or Lieutenant Governor for more information. Checking the Cyberkey is also an option!

WORDS FROM THE

THE TREASURER

TO OFFICERS

Happy Holidays CNH Bees! Baby, it’s cold outside! So make sure you put some extra layers on while you are out serving your community! This season comes much opportunity for you to help out. Make a Christmas basket for the needy; help serve food for the homeless; sing some carols to the retired; collect some clothes for the cold! Your choices are endless. Have you paid your dues yet? I hope so because the regular dues deadline has just passed! Congratulations on becoming official Key Club members for those of you who have already paid your dues. If not, make sure you do so as soon as possible! I would like to also say thank you for all your efforts for the Pediatric Trauma Program! We are getting closer to our District goal, so keep working hard for it! Congratulations for being in Key Club for half of the term already! I hope all you seniors have submitted your UC/CSU applications in a timely manner, and good luck with your midterms!

CNH Treasurers, Happy Holidays! This season surely wraps around the idea of warmth and closeness. Follow these ideas and go out and do something nice! Write cards to military personnel; collect food cans; organize a blanket drive. You are leaders, so be an example to not just your members, but everyone in your school and show them what the true meaning of this season is about. I hope all of you had an ease in turning in dues on time. Thank you for all the effort you put into turning in these dues for it counts for every single person in your club. Great job, and keep it up. If you have any questions pertaining to dues, email the treasurer reflector and you will have many heads to help you. Thank you, from the whole District Board, for your extraordinary work in fundraising for the Pediatric Trauma Program. We are continuing our journey to our $100,000 goal, so keep it up! It has been a tough month for you all, so take a breather. Relax a little, and come back refreshed and ready to continue your role as treasurer. You have many people counting on you, and I, for one, look up to all of you. Thank you.

DUES The school year is now well underway! We hope that your clubs have been keeping up with recruiting new members. Thank you to all of the clubs that have paid their dues to Key Club International by now, especially if you paid them by November 1st, qualifying your club for early bird dues. Even though the “regular dues” deadline has passed, please make sure that you continue to pay dues for your new members. As a friendly reminder, clubs who have not met the regular dues deadline: December 1st can still meet the supplementary dues deadline of February 1st, 2011.The Cali-Nev-Ha District would love it if you consistently paid your clubs’ dues, since your dues are what keep us functioning. Remember, the money always comes back to you! One of the great things that your dues fund are Key Club International’s webinars. These are online workshops led by members like you, from around the world. UPDATES

QUESTIONS

Registration Forms have been posted on the CyberKey! Please look through the registration forms as soon as possible to prepare for convention. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your lieutenant governor, officer reflectors, or an email to Convention Chair Ben (information below).

For Key Clubbers:

DCON General Promotional Flier – Two fliers have been added onto the CyberKey. One flier is an online version that is NOT encouraged to be printed due to its ink-heaviness. The second flier is a printable version that has a white background and is encouraged to be printed, handed out, and posted on walls. Please use both to advertise for the 2011 Anaheim District Convention! *Note: please check with your school administration before putting up any Key Club fliers.

A: As a Key Club member, remember that at all times, it is a privilege to attend District Convention because not anyone can just attend. Therefore, along with attending convention, each member should attend each workshop in each session, all general sessions, the Service Expo and Meet & Greet, each caucus session, and the House of Delegates if you are a delegate. Another responsibility you hold is to represent yourself as a Key Clubber respectfully, meaning to follow the Code of Conduct and the Dress Code at all times. Last but not least, don’t forget to have fun! You have earned the right to celebrate at the end of each Key Club Year!

The Call to DCON Video is up and running on the CyberKey! Please use this video to advertise convention! A Ribbon Survey regarding the ribbons you can purchase at convention will be advertised this month! The deadline for this survey will be by December 15th, so please take this 1-2 minute survey and also spread the word!

of the month

Q: What responsibilities do I have at District Convention as an attending member?

For advisors: Q: What is the maximum number of Key Club members whom I can accompany? A: Each advisor has a maximum of 12 members whom he or she can accompany and look after. The reason for this limit is safety. If there are too many members for each advisor to handle, members will not get enough of the attention that they may need in case of emergency situations..

SAA Update This month's question: What changes have been made in the dress code? Answer: All shorts, skirts, or dress lengths must be at or below the fingertips with arms held straight down against the body and the shoulders relaxed. Also, all shoes must have a back strap or covering on the heel.

Registration Form of the Month The “How to Register for District Convention” form (step 1) has two components. • The first is a checklist of all the necessary steps needed to successfully register for convention. If all of components of this checklist are followed, you should have no problem. • The second part of this form is basic convention registering information, such as the price for registration, simple requirements for both members and advisors to attend convention, and much more!

10

Suggestion/Question Box Do you have a question regarding District Convention that needs clarification? Is there something you would like to see something changed at DCON that could enhance the convention? Or do you have an idea that could possibly spark up the convention? Member input is very important to the DCON committee, so please don’t hesitate to contact
