EXECUTIVE REPORT CNH MEMBERS & OFFICERS WORDS FROM THE

District GOVERNOR Oh beloved members, how you make the organization go round. Believe that you hold a significant voice in the organization. Your voice makes your division stronger at Fall Rally and your service makes your club, your division, and the district that much greater. I know for some shouting at the top of your lungs is a difficult feat. It may be your lung capacity and it may be your meekness. If it is your lung capacity, practice in the shower when your family is not around. If it is your shy demeanor, step out of your boundary every day. Acknowledge that your shouting empowers your peers surrounding you. When you scream and it sets off a chain reaction. Presidents and board members and even I, an executive officer, sometimes can’t fathom why some members do not attend events or cheer. So please, reach out to us and tell us your opinion. Your club, division, and district depend on you.

To the OFFICERS It is the halfway mark in your term. Take a break and reevaluate yourself. Take this time now and organize everything you have done. I included a few questions for you to ask yourself: What goals have I accomplished? What excuses have I made? What tasks have I delegated? Am I on track to becoming distinguished? If you followed this newsletter in the previous months, I asked for everyone to sit back and concoct a Key Club dream. How has this dream grown? Another idea to reflect on the progress you have made is sending an email to your future self. If you go to the website futureme.org, you can type an email for yourself and have it come to you in the future, whether it is next month or after district convention. Try it! There can be no further excuses made. Stop making excuses. It may be difficult to follow but always remember it. Do not make excuses for your failure to complete certain tasks, such as reminding your treasurer to SUBMIT THE CLUB DUES ON TIME. It is your duty to make sure these tasks get done. The pressure cooker just turned on. If you have yet to look through the president’s and vice presidents manual, I have conveniently included the duties here for you. Check yourself before you wreck yourself, because if you don’t check, a fire could break out on the deck. So please check that you are doing all of the below.

ASK YOURSELF!!!

COMMUNICATION · Inform members about upcoming events · Communicate with your Lt. Governor often to receive updates. · Inform your Lt. Governor about upcoming events so that he/she may attend. · Inform faculty and Kiwanis advisors.

GO

ATTEND · Represent the club at Kiwanis meetings · Represent the club at Divisional Council Meetings (DCMs)

ASK

ASSIST Monitor all other officer work to ensure completed on time · Have exceptional knowledge of Key Club International and the CNH District · Educate new members about Key Club

ACTION · Delegate and assign tasks together · Ensure all assigned tasks are completed

· Ask for assistance when you need it.

THE TREASURER

Hi CNH Bees!

Hello CNH Bees!

I want to give a big shout out to all the bees in the north who attended Fall Rally North. You all worked so hard fundraising for Pediatric Trauma Program, and our district definitely appreciates your enthusiasm and contributions. Thank you for setting a new record in ticket sales and helping us reach our goal of $100,000 for Pediatric Trauma Program! To the bees in the south, I can’t wait to see you all at Fall Rally South in your divisional spirit wear. We’re going to have a great time at each of the three rallies, and I anticipate a lot of spirited Key Clubbers! If you still haven’t paid for Fall Rally through your club, do so immediately! Key Club Week is this week (1st week of November)! Advertise to all your friends this week and spread the Key Club love! Each day has a specific theme, so get creative and spread the word! Also, don’t forget to pay your dues if you haven’t done so already. Remember that your club needs to submit their dues by December 1st to meet the on-time deadline. Have a great month CNH Bees!

I would just like to congratulate everyone who attended Fall Rally North for you were a part of something incredible! Even though it rained, we surely didn't hold back our spirit. You have certainty put the District closer to our goal of $100,000 for PTP! Please remember to continue to fundraise for PTP for Fall Rally only shows you what great potential you have. For those of you who participated in Trick-orTreat for UNICEF, I thank you. The annual traditional is kept alive by your enthusiasm in carrying a box around with you. What you do really counts and affects people’s lives. So continue what you’re doing! Make sure you have paid your dues, and also make sure you tell your friends to join and to pay their dues! By not paying your dues, you lose all the wonderful privileges and opportunities Key Club offers. As Key Clubbers, we aim to serve at least 50 hours. Go out there and serve your community. 50 hours is less than 1% of a year; by giving up 0.5% of your year, you helped clean beaches, painted fences, or fed families. You all are amazing, and once again, I thank you. I will be seeing those of you who are attending Fall Rally South and Hawaii-Con soon!

WORDS FROM THE

EXECUTIVE REPORT CNH MEMBERS & OFFICERS TO THE BELOVED OFFICERS Hi CNH Secretaries!

Hello CNH Treasurers!

There are a lot of events that are coming up that you all should know about and spread the word! Get tuned in with your club president and Lieutenant Governor about more detailed information for these upcoming District events: Fall Rally South – Nov. 20th @ Six Flags Magic Mountain Our biggest fundraiser of the year for Pediatric Trauma Prevention (PTP)! Last year we raised over $140,000 for PTP, and this year our goal is to reach at least $100,000 if not more. With so much divisional spirit at the rally and an entertaining board auction, you won’t want to miss one of the biggest Key Club events of the year! Key Club Week – Nov. 1st-5th Spread the word to all your friends about Key Club! This is the one week where all Key Clubbers from around the world celebrate Key Club and all the wonderful things it has to offer! Monday – Show your K in every way. Wear Key Club gear! Tuesday – Kudos to Key Players. Thank anybody in Key Club for all they have done for you. Wednesday – Connect the K’s: Connect with all levels of the Kiwanis Family Thursday – Bring a friend to Key Club Friday – Your way! Do anything you want Key Club related. Rose Float Decorating – end of December Although not everyone in our district is able to attend this event, for those that are able to this is a very big event. Divisions travel to Pasadena and spend 10-hour shifts decorating our Kiwanis Rose Float as well as some other floats. Talk to your LTG for more information or visit the CyberKey!

It is DUES Season! Make sure you stay organized for it is really important that you are. You are in charge of handling everyone’s membership, so make sure you do it in a timely manner. Remember, the date you are aiming to have all your membership in by is DECEMBER 1st! Also, make sure you are continuing to fundraise for PTP! Just because Fall Rally is over or will be over, does not mean that we’re done fundraising for it. DCON is the next event for which your division and club can be recognized for your amazing fundraising, so keep it going! Remember, our goal for PTP is $100,000. If we surpassed it last year, we can surely do it again. It is a very stressful season for all of you for you have to worry about, not only yourself, but everyone’s dues and Fall Rally. Keep calm and stay focus. Manage your time and ask for help if you need it. Make sure you are in the Treasurer Reflector so you can ask your questions and share ideas. If you ever have a q ue st i o n, f ee l fr ee t o em ai l me at cnhkc.dt1011@gmail.com and I will respond to you as soon as I see it. Have a great month, and keep up the great work!

DISTRICT PROJECTS Prematurity Awareness Month! November is prematurity awareness month; as such, this month’s District Project committee insert will be dedicated to informing you about premature birth and Key Club International service partner March of Dimes. Premature birth is becoming an increasingly common, costly and serious public health issue that we must work together to help prevent.

March of Dimes Mission Statement “Our mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. We carry out this mission through research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies' lives. March of Dimes researchers, volunteers, educators, outreach workers and advocates work together to give all babies a fighting chance against the threats to their health: prematurity, birth defects, low birth-weight.” DID YOU KNOW? · Prematurity is the leading cause of death for America’s newborns. · Every year, more than 525,000 babies (1 in 8) are born prematurely in the United States alone. · Out of the nearly 13 million babies worldwide born prematurely each year, more than 1 million perish. · Between 1981 and 2003, the rate of premature births rose from 9.4 percent to 12.3, an increase of almost 31 percent! · Preterm delivery can happen to any pregnant woman. In about four out of every 10 cases, the causes are unknown.

WHAT’S BEING DONE The March of Dimes Prematurity Campaign was launched on January 30, 2003 in order to find out what causes it and how it can be stopped. This campaign comprises of: · Funding research to find the causes of premature birth · Encouraging investment of public and private research dollars to identify causes and to identify and test promising interventions · Educating women about risk-reduction strategies and the signs and symptoms of premature labor · Providing information and emotional support to families affected by prematurity · Advocating to expand access to health care coverage to improve maternity care and infant health outcomes · Helping health care providers to improve risk detection and address risk factors · Generating concern and action around the problem

What can YOU do? You can participate in official events hosted by March of Dimes, including March for Babies. Involving yourself and your club in this walk is a simple process: 1) Visit www.marchforbabies.org 2) Find the nearest event 3) Form or join a team 4) Obtain donations and/or pledges 5) Attend the walk and get ready to have fun while saving lives. You can also choose to host your own event to raise funds and awareness for the organization. Successful ideas that have worked in the past include benefit concerts, awake-a-thons, carwashes, bake sales, coin drives, Mile of Dimes and more. BEE creative!

COMMITTEE INSERTS CNH MEMBERS & OFFICERS POLICIES | INTERNATIONAL & ELECTIONS International Board Update Webinars are provided by International topics and anyone can view them. Please keep an eye on the officers reflector groups and Cyberkey for International Trustee Robert Peck’s Newsletter for future Webinars topics. Key Club International Trustee Lewandowski has created a preliminary set of guidelines for the club website template that the International Voice Committee will create over the course of the year based on the model provided by preexisting Kiwanis club website templates. The International Voice Committee also plans to translate Key Club resources into French to spread Key Club to unreached nations. The committee is still awaiting a proposal to translate resources by the Eastern Canada District.

Membership Dues Dues are important to pay because they not only pay the overhead for this organization, but also go into grants and scholarship funds. Key Club requires dues to be paid with Key Club International dues as $6.50 and CNH District dues as $4.50. Paying dues is a simple process. First, update the Key Club Membership Center at soapmu.kiwanis.org. Second, mail one check to Key Club International by December 1st, 2010. That’s it! Just as a few reminders dues must be no less than $11.00 and no more than $22.00. Clubs that do not pay dues will be suspended and could have their charter revoked

DISTRICT CONVENTION CONT’D DCON QUESTION OF THE MONTH FOR KEY CLUBBERS

Q: Why do I have to stay at the Hilton Hotel?

A: There are several practical reasons all attendees to convention A: There are three components of the cost to attend DCON. must stay at the Hilton

Q: How much does it cost to attend DCON?

1. The registration fee - $160.00 on time and $200.00 if late • This fee covers the budget of the convention and includes the convention center rental, food for Saturday and Sunday, souvenirs, DCON program, staging and more! • The hotel overall rate – Roughly $210.00 PER NIGHT à $420.00 PLEASE NOTE: This rate is the price for one room, which can be occupied by up to four people. This means that the cost will be divided by the number of occupiers of the room. Therefore, the more people per room, the less it costs to attend! 1 1 person in the room = ~ $420.00 per person 2 2 people in the room = ~ $210.00 per person 3 3 people in the room = ~$140.00 per person 4 4 people in the room = ~ $105 per person 3. Transportation – Varies from club to club and division to division • The closer your club is to Anaheim, the less you will pay for transportation fees to arrive to convention. Work with your faculty and Kiwanis Advisors to plan the best transportation for your club. Your Lt. Governor may also have suggestions and resources. • Small additional costs – Roughly $20.00 - $50.00+ This amount of money that will be needed will vary from attendee to attendee. This money can be considered as emergency money and may be used for: Friday dinner (not provided by the Anaheim Convention Center) Baggage costs at airlines Key Club store, extra pins, and extra ribbons *** Please do not think that you absolutely cannot attend convention because of the cost! Your club and division will be fundraising throughout the year as DCON approaches and many local Kiwanis clubs are generous in their donations to give financial support.

FOR ADVISORS 1. Safety

– Convention events start early, and finish late. With all attendees staying at one hotel, especially the one closest to the convention center, there is less risk of accidents. 2. Security – By having all attendees stay at one hotel, it is the only facility that needs to be monitored. Convenience –The Hilton Hotel is very close to the Convention Center, resulting in a very short walk from Hotel to Convention. Do you have a question regarding District Convention that needs clarification? Is there something you would like to see something changed at DCON that could enhance the convention? Or do you have an idea that could possibly spark up the convention? Member input is very important to the DCON committee, so please don’t hesitate to contact us!
