Dear Readers,

I am pleased to take you on the RCR journey. This journey was an interesting and rewarding one as much learning took place. This journey began with the idea of assisting with the planning of the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR) Reunion for the 140th Anniversary. With that said, we were placed into three committees and I was placed on the Marketing and Social Media Committee for which I was the team lead.

The Marketing and Social Media committee was given different tasks each contributing to the goals and objectives of the client. The information contained in this issue will illustrate the accomplished tasks.

As normal, I welcome feedback from you my avid readers on how we can continue to make this event a success. We hope that this issue paints the perfect picture of the progress made thus far regarding the event and that it will spark a conversation in some way or the other.

ABOUT THE CLIENT

The Royal Canadian Regiment is the senior Regular Force infantry regiment in the Canadian Army. Formed in 1883, the Regiment is well into its stride of serving Canada with its characteristic mix of courage, chivalry, and dash. In the simplest terms, the purpose of The Royal Canadian Regiment is to fight. That is, to fight in defence of Canada and Canada’s vital interests. It fulfills this purpose in times of war and whenever it conducts combat operations.

The role of the Regiment, as a component of the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps within the Canadian Army and the Canadian Armed Forces, is to train and maintain in readiness military forces for service as directed by the Government of Canada. This service can range across the spectrum of conflict, from support to the civil authorities in peacetime to high-intensity combat operations in times of war. In every instance, the Regiment is ready and able to do what is asked of it. In the pursuit of its role, the Regiment has for many decades identified the following six goals or interests:

To provide loyal, effective, and efficient units to the Canadian Army Order of Battle;

To inculcate and foster in all members of The RCR a high standard of military professionalism firmly anchored on the Canadian Army’s ethos of Duty, Integrity, Discipline, and Honour;

To champion the regimental system by instilling cohesion, regimental pride, and fighting spirit in soldiers, exercised within a strong regimental architecture that includes serving and retired members, The RCR Association, the families of regimental members, and an appreciation of the regiment’s history and achievements;

To promote The RCR’s identity and cardinal principles while preserving and perpetuating the Regiment’s history and its relevant customs and traditions;

To foster the creation of excellent regimental leaders at all rank levels through professional development and career enhancement opportunities; and,

To ensure a strong connection to Canadian society by maintaining a high and positive public profile of the Regiment.

The Regimental Family includes all those who serve or have served in the regiment, their immediate families, the RCR Association, members of allied regiments, affiliated Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, and members of other regiments, corps, or branches who serve or have served on the posted strength of any element or unit of the Regiment.

The Marketing and Social Media Committee consisted of five (5) talented individuals who worked tirelessly to ensure the objectives of the RCR event needs were met. The committee members are highlighted on the following pages. The committee met weekly to plan and discuss considerations and deliverables for the event.

Alexia Shepherd

I am a dedicated, dependable, efficient, and tactful individual with a wealth of experience in administration and event planning. Excellence is my forte and my creative attributes allow me to achieve my goals in a timely and resourceful manner. My penchant for excellence is not limited to any domain but I transpose this attitude to every aspect of my life. Undoubtedly, my strong sense of assertiveness and commitment to tasks, coupled with my ability to learn very quickly enables me to work in both team and independent settings.

Actress, event producer, and cultural manager. Currently an Event Planning student at Fanshawe College. I have experience in team leadership, I am dynamic and with experiential pedagogical tools through the performing arts. I have also been in the production of cultural events and attendance at small festivals, from the contact with the customer to the closing of the event and its aftersales. B2B and B2C experience and office skills. Punctual interest in artistic experiences with social impact.

I am a driven and passionate student currently pursuing Event Planning. Born and raised in Punjab, India, I am always interested in organizing and planning events, from small-scale birthday parties to larger community gatherings. I am excited to continue learning and growing in the field of event planning and am dedicated to providing unforgettable experiences to my clients.

I am a dedicated 3rd-year student working towards a degree in Tourism Management at HZ University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, currently with an exchange opportunity at Fanshawe College. My passion for planning and organizing (primarily tours) has opened many doors in the tourism industry, however, my creative and punctual attributes helped me to gain experience in other events within various business sectors. My personal traits include reliability, responsibility, enthusiasm, desire to learn new things, and the development of my personal and professional goals.

Event Overview

DESCRIPTION OF EVENT

Canada's oldest Regular Force Infantry Regiment, The Royal Canadian Regiment, is set to celebrate its 140th anniversary in 2023. The RCR was initially authorized as the Infantry School Corps on 21 December 1883 and established its first three company stations at Fredericton, New Brunswick; St Jean, Quebec; and Toronto, Ontario. In 1887 a fourth company was authorized, and the following year was established in London, Ontario.

Today, the Regiment has three Regular Force battalions (1, 2, and 3RCR) and one Reserve Force battalion (4RCR) stationed in Ontario and New Brunswick. Every five years, The Regiment conducts a reunion. The 100th anniversary in 1983 was the last one held in London, Ontario. The selection of London for the 140th reunion is based on a desire to enhance the standing of the 4th Battalion and highlight the enhancements made to The RCR Museum since 1983.

The reunion is scheduled for August 4 to 6, 2023 at different venues with Fanshawe College being the main venue, and is targeting members of the RCR Association, people with military interests, Fanshawe Staff, and Student Volunteers, former serving and serving members, and golfers. The event will also be catering to 500 people. The following activities are set to take place at this year's reunion:

Memorial Parade and Church Service

Demonstration of Military Skills

RCR OBJECTIVES FOR THE EVENT

The RCR has put forward three main objectives that will help to measure the success of the event. These objectives are:

•Boosting comradeship amongst Royal Canadians

•Appreciating the new displays in the RCR Museum

•Enhancing the reputation of our reserve unit

Event Website

The team was tasked with creating a registration website for the event. The picture above is a glimpse of the home page that the team worked on with Holleigh Baldwin from Conference Services. In order for this task to be accomplished Keshav Malhotra, the website coordinator took the lead to learn Pheedloop (the platform hosting the site). The website was completed and launched in mid-February for registration to begin. The link to the website is below:

In order to meet the marketing needs of the RCR event, we developed three (3) messages aligned to the objectives of the main event. They are as follows:

You know the landscape, service is your passion, it is now time to celebrate your hard work as a veteran and serving member unifying the regimental spirit of the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR).

Remember the glory years and the efforts of our veterans and serving members. Navigate the timeline of history by supporting the Wolseley Barracks Museum in London, Ontario.

The Canadian army’s true dedication to defending our values and freedom is witnessed every day. Let's get together to appreciate their hard work and victory.
