CONSCIOUS CONSTRUCTION AWARD On this year’s Construction Day, taking place on 20 May, Zuidas Director David van Traa presented the first-ever Zuidas Conscious Construction Award. The purpose of the award, which is an initiative of the Zuidas district and the Conscious Construction Foundation (Stichting Bewuste Bouwers), is to encourage contractors to organize building activities with an eye to how those activities will affect the community. The 2017 winner is J.P. Van Eesteren for its construction of the premises of Goede Doelen Loterijen, the national lottery organization, on Prinses Irenestraat. Congratulations!
ABN AMRO UNVEILS CIRCL The new ABN AMRO building, slated to open on 5 September, has been named Circl, alluding to both the building’s construction method and the philosophy it embraces. Circl will offer a programme of lectures and meetings while also functioning as a community centre. It will also boast a fabulous restaurant, operated by catering provider Vermaat. The cherry on the cake is the rooftop garden, where all are welcome to relax, admire the view and enjoy drinks and small dishes from the rooftop bar.
GREEN ROOFS TO TOP AMSTERDAM ZUID STATION Amsterdam Zuid Station is being renovated as part of the massive Zuidasdok project. Contractor ZuidPlus has accepted the challenge to make the new station as green and sustainable as possible. How? With a green roof system! Once finished, the station will thoroughly blend in with its surroundings, and its image will be defined by a unique innovative look.
