The fourth edition of the INCIDENT IV – ACCIDENT International Art Festival was enriched by the participation of the Music Institute. Cooperation of both Institutes (Music and Arts) within one faculty allows for mutual inspiration and interaction of arts. Music highlighted this year’s inauguration of the Festival. A short concert was given by pianists Barbara Karaśkiewicz, Maciej Zagórski, Robert Gawroński, and Jakub Brawata, and accordionists Ewa Grabowska-Lis and Daniel Lis. The project involved four concerts gathering some outstanding artists, both employees of the Music Institute and guests. The pieces were wonderfully diverse, ranging from transcriptions of baroque music, through Chopin’s works, Latin American music, jazz, to contemporary pieces. The event was crowned with the world premiere of Maciej Zimka’s “Sculpture Structures” for accordion duet, consistent with the theme and vision of mutual pervasion of arts.

Czwarta edycja Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Sztuki INCIDENT IV- ACCIDENT została wzbogacona poprzez udział Instytutu Muzyki. Działalność obydwu Instytutów (Muzyki oraz Sztuk Pięknych) w ramach jednego wydziału stwarza możliwości obustronnych inspiracji oraz wzajemnego oddziaływania sztuk. Tegoroczna inauguracja Festiwalu została poszerzona o akcent muzyczny. W krótkim koncercie wzięli udział pianiści: Barbara Karaśkiewicz, Maciej Zagórski, Robert Gawroński i Jakub Brawata oraz akordeoniści: Ewa Grabowska-Lis i Daniel Lis. W ramach projektu odbyły się 4 koncerty, na których wystąpili wybitni artyści, zarówno pracownicy Instytutu Muzyki, jak i zaproszeni goście. Prezentowana muzyka była niezwykle różnorodna. Obejmowała transkrypcje muzyki barokowej, dzieła Fryderyka Chopina, muzykę latynoamerykańską, jazzową oraz muzykę współczesną. Ważnym wydarzeniem było światowe prawykonanie kompozycji Macieja Zimki pt. „Sculpture Structures” na duet akordeonowy, wpisującej się tematycznie w wizję wzajemnego przenikania się sztuk.

des Philosophierens7, im Kontext der ungesagten ästhetischen Topoi, ist nicht auf einen bestimmten Gegenstand gerichtet, sondern entsteht in der Korrelation von numerischen Begriffen (vgl. τόπος bei Schopenhauer) in einem entspannten Disputs, aus welcher Ungesagtheit die neuen Topoi entbunden werden. Die Abhandlung über die physischen (φυσικός, nicht σωματικός) Gesetzlichkeiten des Ortes und des Raumes gründen in der aristotelischen Physik an der Annahme „das etwas als Ort existiert” (usp. ὂτι μὲν οὖν ἔστιν ὁ τόπος, Aristoteles, Physik, IV 208b1) und an der tatsächlichen Diskrepanz zwischen Ort und Raum (vgl. ὀ τόπος τι καὶ ἡ χώρα, ebd. IV 208b7).

Im Timaios verwendet Platon die Begriffe Ort (τόπος) und Raum (χώρα) abwechselnd und den Ausdruck ἕδρα (φαινομένην ἕδραν, Politeia, VII, 517b2), als Teil eines topologischen Diskurses, welches einen Sitz, oder einen Untergrund (vgl. ebd. ἕδρᾳ φαντάσματα αὐτοῦ, Politeia, VII, 516b4) bezeichnet. ddr Božo Raič /Croatia/ Graz, Austria philosopher, art critic courator imagorab@gmx.at

loci aesthetici Zitierend der aristotelischen Überlegung von der Großmächtigkeit eines Topos1, spricht Heidegger über die technisch-wissenschaftlichen Eroberung des Raumes und seiner plastifizierenden Verschmelzung mit der Kunst. Der Hintergrund dieses Gedankens ist der methodologische Zugang zum Topos in Aristoteles Topik und die Lehre von Ort und Raum (τόπος καὶ χώρα) in seiner Physik (Bücher I-IV). In Manier der aristotelischen Topik (vgl. „institui Topica Aristotelea conscribere”, Ciceron, Epistulae ad familiares, 7,21), untersucht Cicero die Orte (loci) als Bestandteile (partes) und als Quellen (fontes), an denen sich die Argumente gründen. Für Cicero ist ein Ort (locus) der Wohnsitz (sedes, vgl. locus residendi) eines Arguments, in dem ein umstrittener Umstand2 bewertet wird. Das Verhältnis zwischen Ort und Argument (locus et argumentum) wirkt deutlicher im Kontext des „weilenden” Sitzes (quasi sedes3) eines bestimmten Argumentes. Ciceros loci sind die Orte des Auffindens und des Erinnerns4, die in unsagbar geweihten Räumlichkeiten mit der mnemotechnischen LociMethode (vgl. μνημονικὸν τέχνημα, Platon, Hippias, II 368d, 6-7) in Verbindung stehen.

Sich zu Aristoteles und die Stoiker berufen, gründet Cicero seine Argumentation von Topoi auf der Kunst des Auffindens (τοπική τέχνη) und auf der Kunst der Unterordnung (διαλεκτική τέχνη). Cicero fasst die Dialektik (διαλεκτικὴν5) als Bereich des Wissens (scientia) und als Kunst des Beurteilens (iudicare) um. Die Topik (τοπικὴ), inveniendi artem6, erfasst er als Kunst des leichteren Auffindens (vgl. invenire i reperire) der versteckten Dingen, wenn ein Ort (loco) festgelegt und bekannt (demonstrato et notato7) ist. Die Topoi (τόποι) des Aristoteles Topik stammen aus der platonischen Methode des logischen Schließens (συλλογίζεσθαι) und seiner Methode der logischen Klassifikation (διαίρεσις). Auf der Suche nach der widerspruchslosen Art des Schließens, findet in der aristotelischen Τόπος-Methode die Diskussion zwischen den Fragenden, den Wählenden der plausiblen Prämissen, und den Antwortenden, den Repräsentanten der bestimmten These, statt. Im Szenarium des Beurteilens und des Wortwechsels bemühen sich der Fragende und der Antwortende, mit tels der dialektischen Methode, um das Auffinden der endgültigen plausiblen Schlussfolgerungen. Für die ontische Anwesenheit des Seienden, welches als das „Seiende als Seiendes” (vgl. τὸ ὄν ᾗ ὄν, Arist. Met. 1003a21 do 1005a13) erscheint, beansprucht Aristoteles einen [empfangsfähigen] Raum (vgl. χώραν τοῖς οὖσι, Arist. Physik, IV 208b32). Aus der Sicht der topologischen Überlegung hat χώρα eine räumliche Bedeutung, aber auch eine erweiternde [paradoxe8] Relevanz, in der man jemanden oder etwas in seiner Ruhe und in seiner Ordnung lassen soll. Neben der argumentatorischen und rhetorischen Funktion des Topos, ist ein aristotelischer τόπος, ein [bewegliches] Gefäß, das in einem bestimmten Raum seinen Gegenstand umhüllt. Ein ästhetischer Topos (locus aestheticus) unterscheidet sich vom Raum eines Gegenstandes (χώραν τοῖς οὖσι) und ist nicht nur sein bloßes Umhüllen.

Die Orte des Auffindens (τόποι), der räumlichen Offenheit (χῶραι) und der konkreten Verräumlichung eines Gegenstandes (ἕδραι) sind vor-ikonografische epistemische Horizonte des Ästhetischen, die alle in der konkreten bildlichen Darstellung den Teil der technischpoetischen Deskription formen werden. Der inspirative Eingang in die ikonografische Inhalte des Treffens (τόποι συνάντησης) und das Herausholen aus der Vergessenheit (usp. ars reminescendi) der bildhaft-grenzlichen (πέρας9, hat in Timaios Bedeutung der Form, vgl. lat. finis) Erfahrung sind die Topoi der absoluten Unterwerfung des Schaffenden zu seinem Vers (Kandinsky).

Die zwischenräumliche (vgl. Lessing, Raum als eigentliches Gebiet der Malerei) Unterwerfung an das poetische Schweigen (vgl. „...pictura poema silens”, Horaz, und „Schweigen” bei Wittgenstein) bereitet einen Ort des Treffens (locus occursus) der Kunst, der Musik und der Philosophie vor, indem das Zusammenertönen (intermissas) des Bildes, des Klanges und des Wortes zum gemeinsamen ästhetischen Topos (vgl. αἰσθητοῦ τόπος, Arist. Met. 1010a.25) wird. In einem ästhetischen Topos, in dem sich die poietischen (ποίησις - Bilden, Schaffen) Formen bilden und die ikonische und pikturale Differenz (vgl. ikonische, bzw. pikturale Differenz, Gottfried Boehm) spielend wirkt, sind die Spuren (vgl. Spur bei W. Benjamin) des Bildes (vgl. simulacra et imago, Lukrez, De rerum natura) aufbewahrt, indem ihre spurenhafte Kontingenz vom Löschen und vom Verschieben beschützt bleibt. „Bildend und betrachtend” stabilisiert der Künstler die geschaffenen ästhetischen Positionen dieses Raumes und bereitet (repraesentatio, Kant und apperception bei Leibniz) die aisthetische (αἴσθησις) Struktur des Bildes für eine aktive (vgl. aktive und passive Apperzeption bei Wilhelm Wundt) Apperzeption [des Betrachters] vor.

Durch die Kommunikationsprozesse, zwischen dem Ausführenden der Bildlichkeit und dem bildenden Objekt, wird die Korrespondenz des topologischen Ansichten thematisiert, die in der Entstehung des Dinghaften (vgl. Sichtbarwerden bei Husserl) als Phänomen des Bildes [für jemanden] fungiert. Das Bild, als durchfließender Raum der pikturalisierten Topoi des Wissens und der Offenheit, wird zum triadischen Treffen des Kunstwerkes, des Künstlers und des Betrachters und ebenso zum stabilen Ort (sedes et locus) der bildenden Elementen in der „da-seienden Ferne”.

Das tönende Hallen des inneren Duktus und die heimlichen Nicht-Orte (inopia loci) des Bildes fragen ihren Schöpfer Jarosław Kweclich: philosophandumne sit - wozu Philosophieren? Kweclich, selbst ein fragender Maler-Philosoph, antwortet in einem offenem Dialog mit den metaphorischen Porträts seines Bildes auf diese Frage mit der Ur-Form des Bild-Klanges und dem mollischen Schwingen des Pinselns durch die dichte Materie, wodurch sein malerischer Gang zum Philosophieren gelingt. Solange bis die Philosophie in ihm nicht geschieht10, dosiert er meisterhaft die Helligkeit zum bestehenden Farbton und erreicht dadurch die durische Harmonie des Bildes, weil die Lebenshingabe des fragenden Daseins zum Philosophieren (βίος θεωρητικός) zu dem Kweclichs selbsterkennenden [vgl. γνῶθι σεαυτόν] Topos gehört, der in seinen peripatetischen (περιπατῶν) Bild-Philosophemenen lesbar wirkt.

Auf dem grenzlosen (ἀπείριτος) blumigen Feld erklingen die lyrischen Resonanznotizen von Beata Bebel-Karankiewicz volltönig.

Das Mitschwingen der Momente der Stille (tempus tacendi) und die kolorierte Notation, komponiert mit kaum hörbaren Berührungen des Pinselns auf der Leinwand, sind die stillen Poeme (vgl. poema silens bei Simonides), die im Topos des häuslichen Seins ruhen.

Im ästhetischen Dialog zwischen materiellen Schönheit der Farbe (belezza di colori) und der blumigen sinfonischen Notizen (simphonia florea) schwingt wohltuend die brennende Seele der Malerei.

Die mehrschichtigen Bild-Objekte sind graphische Panegyriken (πανηγυρικοί) und „der gute Buchstabe” der Malerei. Mit meisterhaften Gesten formt der Maler Włodzimierz Karankiewicz die nicht-malerische Materie zum malerischen Stoff um. Die gegenständlichen Abstraktionen, wörtliche [λόγοι] und zahlenmäßige [ἀριθμοί] Botschaften, und tausende spontanen Grazien, die in der leserlichen malerischen Manier (in picturae modum) gebildet sind, werden zum Part von Karankiewiczs ästhetischen Diskurs. Sein poetisches Wirken, das zum Gipfel des künstlerischen „interesselosen Wohlgefallens” (Kant) beabsichtigt, verbindet, fast „familiär” (vgl. cognatio, G. Bruno), die Literatur, die Kunst und die Musik.

Die Metapher des Erinnerns und das poetische Wahrnehmen (αίσθάνοµαι) der gesehenen Dinge (memoria rerum) und der ausgesprochenen Worte (memoria verborum) sind die „fernen” Topoi, die in der mnemotechnischen Malerei (vgl. μνημονική τέχνη und μνημονικά) von Bartosz Frączek bildhaft verwirklicht werden. Die malerische Disposition (dispositio pictura) des topologischen Übergangs wirkt vom äußeren Umfeld (ex loco extrinseco) der Dinge (vgl. χώὰν τοῖς οὖσι, Raum der Dinge, Arist. Physik, 208b32) bis zur Staffelei-Nähe (in loco intrinseco) mit der intimen Nähe der Vergangenheit zusammen. Alles liegt in der Dynamik: die Orte des Raumes (vgl. Physik, 213b4-5, κίνησις κατὰ τόπον - Bewegung hinsichtlich des Ortes) und der „felix aestheticus” (A.G. Baumgarten), der durch die künftigen ästhetischen Orte (loci aesthetici) eilt. Den Ort der Verräumlichung seiner Idee suchend, trifft er die Zeit [des Schweigens], die in seinen bildlichen Notizen zu der Zeit des Bildes (pictura poema silens) wird.

Die Materie (ὒλη) bei Aristoteles hat die Eigenschaften der Kraftlosigkeit, der Inertheit und der Amorphität (ἀειδὲς καὶ ἂμορφον, Aristotel, Met. 1037a 27). Leibniz sieht die Widerstandskraft in ihrer Trägheit und bei Hegel wird sie zum Wesen. Und, da sie die Reflexion-in-sich ausmacht, betrachtet sie Hegel als „eigentliche Grundlage oder Substrat der Form”11. Robert Puczyński entdeckt das „Verlangen” der Materie (vgl. ἀλλὰ τοῦτʼ ἒστιν ἡ ὒλη, Arist. Physik, I, 9, 192a22) nach der Form (ἀειδὲς καὶ ἂμορφον) und durch ihre unbegrenzten (αόριστον, Met. VII 11, 1037a27) Möglichkeiten des Plastifizierens bearbeitet er ihre Formbarkeit bis zu dessen endlicher Reife (materia matura). In seinen verspielten skulpturierten Darstellungsprozessen nützt Puczyński verschiedene Materialien und die ästhetische Kraft der Materie, schließlich entstehen die Objekte in ihr (vgl. τὸ δ̓ ἐν ῷ γίγνεται, Plat. Tim. 50d1). Mit der Visualisierung des Austritts aus der bloßen Objektivität (vgl. ordo rerum extensarum, Hegel) und der Darstellungsfähigkeit des Inhalts, verstärkt Puczyński die Abstraktheit des Gegenständlichen, die wesentliche Botschaft seiner spontanen Objektivation (Nicolai Hartmann).

In der Organisation der Kunstakademie: Akademia im. Jana Długosza w Częstochowie, an der zahlreiche Ausstellungen und kunstphilosophische Symposien in Europa, Amerika, Japan, China, Australien und Afrika sich abspielen, ist locus Częstochoviensis ein schöpferischer Topos mit dessen wahrnehmbaren Bildern und den sprachlichen, skulpturalen und graphischen Metaphern, allgegenwärtig.

Mit dieser Ausstellung hören (ἀκούειν) die Professoren der Kunstakademie Częstochowa: Włodzimierz Karankiewicz, Beata BebelKarankiewicz, Bartosz Frączek, Jarosław Kweclich, Justyna Warwas, der częstochowischwienerische Skulptor Robert Puczyński und die kroatische Künstlerin Barbara Raič den gesprächigen Topoi des Treffens zu und mit der „Logik der Augen” (Cézanne) drücken sie in ihren Kunstwerken das,”was sie sehen wollen” (Jean Paul), aus.

Im Vokabular der polyfonen geometrischen Formen von Justyna Warwas nimmt die kompositorische Rhythmisierung, die mit der Mehrstimmigkeit der Farbe und ausdehnenden graphischen Interaktionsformen verbunden wirkt, die Form eines Diskurs von der kontrapunktischen Signifikanz an. Bis der transzendierende Monolog der inneren Expression die geometrischen Landschaften mit der weichen Berührung des Pinselns rekomponiert, stabilisiert die Brechung des Lichtstrahls die Mehrdimensionalität der kosmischen Flucht. Im Kontext des technischen Bildes entdeckt Justyna Warwas das „Spiel” (vgl. παιδεία bei Platon) des Widerstandes gegen die technischen Manipulation (usp. Vilém Flusser), und durch Imago-Pictura-Kontext (Kepler) bereitet sie im gleichen Topos das Treffen (convenire in unum locum) der programmierten und programmischen Paradigmen mit der inneren „Instrumentation” der geometrischen Vision der Welt (vgl. Harmonices mundi libri V, Kepler) vor.

Entlang der „all-sehenden” Rebstöcke (vgl. videre und vitis - Wienstock), Kirkes (vgl. Κἰρκης δ̓ ἒνδον ἂκουον ἂειδούσης ὀπὶ πέλωρα, Od. X 221) Engpässe und den astrotoponymischen (ἄστρον + τόπος) „Schatten des südlichen Esels” (umbrae aselli australis, vgl. Περὶ τοῦ ὄνου σκιᾶς. Demosthenes Rede vor den Athener), schifft die glückliche Weberin (felicisimma textrix) durch das „barbarische” (Altkroat. Sutvara - hl. Barbara) Webfach, in dem das purpurne Schriftzeichen nachklingt (purpurea nota resonat). Flössend (vgl. aratio, ars, ἄροτος) pflügt Barbara Raič das Meer. Hingerissen mit der Liebe zur Meinigen, ruft sie mit dem erzählenden Pinsel die schlafenden Hügel und die gipfelartigen Erhabenheiten wach und malt den weiten Himmel der scharfsichtigen Wachtürme und der großartigen Bodenerhebung mit mächtigen Krümmungen nach. Das Eigene (vgl. τὰ αὑτοῦ πράττειν, Plat. Politeia, 433a8) machend, pilgert sie (vgl. πανεπιδημία τίς ἐστιν ὁ βίος, das Leben als Pilgerfahrt, Pseudo-Plat. Aks.-Ἀξίοχος, 365b) mit der Form in der Materie (vgl. μεταξύ, Plat. Goz. 202e i Arist. Metaph. I 7, 1057a, παρούσία, Arist. Über die Seele, II 7, 418b16) durch die tiefliegenden Himmelswolken (D. Domjanić) und verwebt mit spielenden Fingern den unerlässlichen (έπιούσιος) Buchstaben zwischen das weiße Garn (vgl. intexuit albis, Ovid. Met, VI 577).

Cytując arystotelesowskie rozważania o potędze toposu1, Heidegger mówi o naukowo-technicznym podboju przestrzeni i jej uplastyczniającym zespoleniu ze sztuką. Myśl ta odwołuje się do metodologicznego podejście do toposu w traktacie Topiki Arystotelesa oraz do nauki o miejscu i przestrzeni (τόπος καὶ χώρα) w jego fizyce (księgi I-IV). Zgodnie z arystotelesowskim rozumieniem topiki (por. „institui Topica Aristotelea conscribere”, Cyceron, Epistulae ad familiares, 7,21), Cyceron bada miejsca (loci), elementy (partes) i źródła (fontes), z których rodzą się argumenty . Dla Cycerona miejsce (locus) jest mieszkaniem (sedes, por. locus residenti) argumentu, który służy do oceny spornej sytuacji2. Stosunek między miejscem a argumentem (locus et argumentum) jest bardziej wyrazisty w kontekście „zasiedziałego” miejsca, siedziby (quasi sedes3) określonego argumentu. Loci Cycerona to miejsca pamięci i odnajdywania4, które w nienazwanych uświęconych przestrzeniach powiązane są z mnemotechniczną metodą- „loci” (por. μνημονικὸν τέχνημα, Platon, Hippias, II 368d, 6-7). Cyceron, powołując się na Arystotelesa i stoików, opiera swoją argumentację na sztuce odnajdywania (τοπική τέχνη) i na sztuce podporządkowania (διαλεκτική τέχνη). Określa też dialektykę (διαλεκτικὴν5) jako obszar wiedzy (scientia) i szukę oceniania (iudicare). Topikę (τοπικὴ), inveniendi artem6, postrzega jako sztukę łatwiejszego odnajdywania (por. invenire i reperire) ukrytych rzeczy, jeśli miejsce (loco) jest określone i znane (demonstrato et notato7). Toposy (τόποι) w Topikach Arystotelesa wywodzą się z platońskiej metody logicznego wnioskowania (συλλογίζεσθαι) i jego metody logicznej klasyfikacji (διαίρεσις). Poszukując bezspornego sposobu wnioskowania, Arystoteles przedstawia w metodzie Τόπος dyskusję miedzy pytającymi, wybierającymi istotne przesłanki i odpowiadającymi, reprezentantami określonej tezy.

W scenariuszu oceniania i wymiany zdań pytający i odpowiadający starają się, za pomocą metody dialektycznej, wskazać ostateczne i ważkie wnioski. Pytanie, zgodnie z wymogiem filozofowania8 w kontekście nienazwanych toposów estetycznych, nie jest skierowane na określoną rzecz, lecz powstaje w swobodnej dyspucie, w korelacji z pojęciami numerycznymi (por. τόπος u Schopenhauera), a z jego niewypowiedzenia rodzą się nowe toposy. Rozprawy o (φυσικός, niet σωματικός) prawach fizycznych miejsca i przestrzeni bazują w fizyce Arystotelesa na założeniu, „że coś istnieje jako miejsce” (usp. ὂτι μὲν οὖν ἔστιν ὁ τόπος, Aristoteles, Physik, IV 208b1) i na rzeczywistej rozbieżności między miejscem a przestrzenią (por. ὀ τόπος τι καὶ ἡ χώρα, tamże. IV 208b7).

W Timaios Platon używa pojęć miejsce (τόπος) i przestrzeń (χώρα) zamiennie, a wyrażenie ἕδρα (φαινομένην ἕδραν, Politeia, VII, 517b2), które to oznacza siedzibę, lub podłoże (por. tamże ἕδρᾳ φαντάσματα αὐτοῦ, Politeia, VII, 516b4) występuje jako część dyskursu topologicznego.

Dla ontycznej obecności istnienia, które stanowi „byt jako bycie” (por. τὸ ὄν ᾗ ὄν, Arist. Met. 1003a21 do 1005a13), Arystoteles wymaga przestrzeni [płodnej] (por. χώραν τοῖς οὖσι, Arist. Physik, IV 208b32). Z punktu widzenia refleksji topologicznej χώρα ma znaczenie przestrzenne, ale też [paradoxe9] znaczenie rozszerzone, zgodnie z którym należy kogoś lub coś pozostawić w spokoju i zachować jego porządek. Oprócz argumentacyjnej i retorycznej roli toposu, τόπος jest u Arystotelesa [ruchomym] naczyniem, które w określonej przestrzeni osłania swój przedmiot [swą treśc]. przedmiotu [treści] (χώραν τοῖς οὖσι) i nie jest tylko jego zwykłą osłoną. Miejsca odnalezienia (τόποι), otwartości przestrzennej (χῶραι) i konkretnego uprzestrzennienia przedmiotu [treści] (ἕδραι) są przed-ikonicznymi epistemicznymi horyzontami tego, co estetyczne, a co w konkretnym obrazowaniu nada częściowo formę techniczno-poetyckiej deskrypcji. Twórcze zanurzenie się w ikonograficzne treści spotkania (τόποι συνάντησης) i wydobycie z niepamięci (usp. ars reminescendi) obrazowo-granicznego (πέρας10, w Timaios o znaczeniu formy, por. lat. finis) doświadczenia to toposy absolutnego poddania się tworzącego swemu dziełu (Kandinsky).

Międzyprzestrzenne (por. Lessing, przestrzeń jako właściwy obszar malarstwa) poddanie się poetyckiemu milczeniu (por. „...pictura poema silens”, Horaz, i „milczenie” u Wittgensteina) przygotowuje miejsce spotkania (locus occursus) sztuki, muzyki i filozofii, poprzez scalenie (intermissas) obrazu, dźwięku i słowa w topos estetyczny (por. αἰσθητοῦ τόπος, Arist. Met. 1010a.25).

W toposie estetycznym, w którym wykształcają się formy poietyczne (ποίησις – tworzyć, ksztatować) a różnica pikturalna i ikoniczna (por.ikoniczna,, wzg. różnica pikturalna, Gottfried Boehm) oddziałują twórczo, zachowane są ślady (por. ślad u W. Benjamina) obrazu (por. simulacra et imago, Lukrecjusz, De rerum natura), a ich śladowa kontyngencja chroniona jest przed zatarciem i przemieszczeniem. „Tworząc i obserwując” artysta stabilizuje stworzone pozycje estetyczne przestrzeni i przygotowuje (repraesentatio, Kant, i apperception u Leibniza) strukturę estetyczną (αἴσθησις) obrazu dla aktywnej (por. aktywna i pasywna apercepcja u Wilhelma Wundta) apercepcji [obserwatora]. Procesy komunikacji, między obrazującym i obrazowanym obiektem, służą ukazaniu współzależności poglądów topologicznych, które wraz z urzeczowieniem (por. stawanie się widocznym u Husserla) stanowią fenomen obrazu [dla kogoś]. Obraz, jako przepływająca przestrzeń spikturalizowanych toposów wiedzy i otwartości, staje się triadycznym spotkaniem dzieła sztuki, artysty i obserwatora, a także stabilnym mieszkaniem (sedes et locus) dla elementów sztuki w „tu-obecnej dali”.

Na Wydziale Sztuki Uniwersytetu im. Jana Długosza w Częstochowie, który organizuje liczne wystawy i sympozja poświęcone filozofii sztuki, odbywające się w Europie, Ameryce, Japonii, Chinach, Australii i Afryce, locus Częstochoviensis stanowi wszechobecny topos, wyrażający się w obrazach oraz metaforach języka grafiki i rzeźby. Ta wystawa unieważnia zasadę niemożliwości (ἀκούειν) por. Leibniz’a zasada nieprzenikalności [Antitypia - ἀντιτυπία], przebywania jednego ciała materialnego z drugim w tym samym pomieszczeniu. Rozchodzący się dźwięk wewnętrznego rytmu i tajemne nie-miejsca (inopia loci) obrazu pytają swego twórcę Jarosława Kweclicha: philosophandumne sit – po cóż filozofować? Kweclich, sam pytający filozof-malarz, w otwartym dialogu z metaforycznymi portretami ze swych płócien odpowiada na to pytanie pierwotną formą brzmienia obrazu i molowym pociągnięciem pędzla przez gęsta materię, co sprawia, że jego malarska droga staje się filozofowaniem. Tak długo, dopóki filozofia go nie wypełni11, mistrzowsko dozuje światło, nadając właściwy koloryt i osiągając w ten sposób durową harmonię obrazu. To, że pytający byt poświęca życie filozofowaniu (βίος θεωρητικός), a to właśnie stanowi autopoznawczy topos Kweclicha [por. γνῶθι σεαυτόν], przenika jego perypatetyczne (περιπατῶν) obrazy-teoremy.

Na nieskończonym (ἀπείριτος) kwietnym polu w pełnej skali rozbrzmiewają liryczne zapiski Beaty Bebel-Karankiewicz.

Wielowarstwowe obrazy-obiekty to graficzne panegiryki (πανηγυρικοί) i „dobra litera” malarstwa. Mistrzowskimi gestami malarz, Włodzimierz Karankiewicz, przekształca nie-malarską materię w materiał malarski. Niewymuszony wdzięk abstrakcji przedmiotowych, słownych [λόγοι] i liczbowych [ἀριθμοί] przekazów, tworzonych w czytelnej manierze malarskiej (in picturae modum), stanowią część dyskursu estetycznego Karankiewicza. Jego działania poetyckie, dążące do artystycznego „bezinteresownego podobania się“ (Kant) łączą, niemal „rodzinnie” (por. cognatio, G. Bruno), literaturę, plastykę i muzykę.

Metafora pamięci i poetyckie postrzeganie (αίσθάνοµαι) widzianych przedmiotów (memoria rerum) oraz wypowiedzianych słów (memoria verborum) to toposy „odległe“, które obrazowo realizuje mnemotechniczne malarstwo (por. μνημονική τέχνη und μνημονικά) Bartosza Frączka. Malarska dyspozycja (dispositio pictura) przejścia topologicznego począwszy od zewnętrznego otoczenia (ex loco extrinseco) rzeczy (por. χώὰν τοῖς οὖσι, przestrzeń rzeczy, Arstoteles, Fizyka, 208b32) aż po bliskość sztalugi (in loco intrinseco) współgra z intymną bliskością przeszłości. Wszystko ma swoją dynamikę: miejsca przestrzeni (por. Fizyka, 213b4-5, κίνησις κατὰ τόπον – ruch względem miejsca) i „felix aestheticus” (A.G. Baumgarten), przemierzający „loci aesthetici”.

Szukając miejsca uprzestrzennienia swej idei, Frączek napotyka czas (milczenia), który w jego malarskich notach staje się czasem obrazu (pictura poema silens).

Materia (ὒλη) u Arystotelesa ma właściwości niemocy, inercji i amorfii (ἀειδὲς καὶ ἂμορφον, Aristotel, Met. 1037a 27). Leibniz dostrzega jej siłę oporu w bierności, co u Hegla staje się jej istotą. A że stanowi ona refleksję–w–sobie, Hegel traktuje ją jako „właściwy kształt lub substrat formy“12. Robert Puczyński odkrywa „tęsknotę“ materii (por. ἀλλὰ τοῦτʼ ἒστιν ἡ ὒλη, Arist. Physik, I, 9, 192a22) za formą (ἀειδὲς καὶ ἂμορφον) i przez nieograniczone (αόριστον, Met. VII 11, 1037a27) możliwości uplastycznienia wypróbowuje jej formowalność aż do osiągnięcia ostatecznej dojrzałości (materia matura). W swych oryginalnych, zamkniętych w rzeźbiarskich formach, procesach twórczych Puczyński wykorzystuje różne materiały i estetyczną siłę materii, w której rodzą się obiekty (por. τὸ δ̓ ἐν ῷ γίγνεται, Plat. Tim. 50d1). Przez wizualizację wyjścia z prostej obiektywności (por. ordo rerum extensarum, Hegel) i zdolność obrazowania, Puczyński potęguje abstrakcyjność przedmiotowości, co stanowi istotne przesłanie jego spontanicznej obiektywizacji (Nicolai Hartmann).

W słowniku polifonicznych, geometrycznych form Justyny Warwas kompozycyjna rytmizacja, spleciona z wielogłosowością koloru i wychodzącymi poza obraz graficznymi formami interakcji, przyjmuje formę dyskursu o znaczeniu kontrapunktu. Zanim transcendujący monolog wewnętrznej ekspresji za sprawą miękkich pociągnięć pędzla spowoduje rekompozycję geometrycznego krajobrazu, załamanie promienia światła ustabilizuje wielowymiarowość kosmicznej ucieczki. W kontekście technicznego obrazu Justyna Warwas odkrywa „grę” (por. παιδεία bei Platon) oporu przeciw technicznej manipulacji (por. Vilém Flusser) i poprzez kontekst Imago-Pictura (Kepler) doprowadza do spotkania w tym samym toposie (convenire in unum locum) zaprogramowanych i programowych paradygmatów z wewnętrzną „instrumentacją“ geometrycznej wizji świata (por. Harmonices mundi libri V, Kepler).

Wzdłuż „wszystko-widzących” winorośli (por. videre und vitis - Wienstock), niedosytu Kirke (por. Κἰρκης δ̓ ἒνδον ἂκουον ἂειδούσης ὀπὶ πέλωρα, Od. A New Method of Assisting the Invention in Drawing Original Compositions of Landscape (Alexander Cozens), The Tragic Muse (Auguste Rodin), Three standard stoppages (Marcel Duchamp), Squares arranged according to the laws of chance (Jean Arp), Spectrum Colours Arranged by Chance I (Ellsworth Kelly), Music of Chances (John Cage), An Anecdoted Topography of Chance (Daniel Spoerri), Random Distribution of 40,000 Squares Using the Odd and Even Numbers of a Telephone Directory (François Morellet), Yielding Stone (Gabriel Orozco), FedEx Sculpture (Walead Beshty), Octfalls (Ryoichi Kurokawa)…

All the artworks of this list happened either by accident or chance. Found in the fields of literature, sculpture, painting, music or videos, this common characteristic during the creative process is not peculiar or new. However, is it possible to put all the works mentioned above in the same category, to consider accident and chance as synonyms? The proliferation of terms to qualify this process during the 20th century, -”controlled chance” (Pierre Boulez, 1925-2016), “indeterminacy” (John Cage, 1912-1992), “programmed chance” (Etienne Souriau,1892-1979), “methodical chance” and “accidental chance” (Sarah Troche) and “essential uncertainty” or “operational uncertainty” (Jacques Monod) – seems to indicate the contrary.

For Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968), opposed to a purely “retinal” art; intended only to please the eye, this “chance is the only way to avoid the control of the rational” (Girst, 2014: 42). In this sense, Duchamp’s practice welcomes accidents and coincidences because it is also a way to “help him escape from his own taste and sense of aesthetics” (Girst, 2014: 42). This principle became later, the credo of Dadaist artists who advocated anti-art, art of absurdity and nonsense, but also for “movements that further developed some of their premises, such as Abstract Expressionism for “automatism” and Fluxus for the use of random combinations” (Gamboni, 1999: 205). Nevertheless, art historian Denys Riout explained that this perception goes “against the image of the absolute control of the artist over his work” (2000: 31), and particularly about the importance of his intention.

The words of Francis Bacon during an interview with David Sylvester provides us clues for a greater understanding of this topic. As Bacon declares, “I think that accident, which I would call luck, is one of the most important and fertile aspects of it […] it’s true to say that over a great many years I have been thinking about chance and about the possibilities of using what chance can give, and I never know how much it is pure chance and how much it is manipulation of it” (Sylvester, 2016: 59-60). From terms used by Francis Bacon – namely “accident, luck, chance or manipulation”, the purpose of this text will highlights the usage of accident or chance and the evolution of its utilisation in the 20th and 21th centuries in the art world.

Accident is commonly perceived as something fortuitous, unfortunate and in a way mainly negative. Following this logic, the events that took place, at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis when a steel plate of Richard Serra’s “Sculpture No. 3” fell and killed the contractor Raymond Johnson, appears to be in accordance with the literal meaning of the idea of accident.

On the contrary, in the art world, the word accident takes a different sense, a more positive meaning. If there was a history of the art about this notion, it would begin with the “three sponges” of ancient Greek painters Protogenes, Nealkes or Apelles who threw the sponges accidentally in a gesture of anger on their canvases producing the exact effect of the foam of the dog/horse’s mouth that the painters had been striving to achieve. This anecdote or literary topos written initially

by Pliny the Elder (23-79 c.e.) and Dio Chrysostom (c. 40 – c. 115 c.e.) was also mentioned in the Essays of Michel de Montaigne (1533-1592) and in the final chapter of Sartor Resartus of Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881). Facing this situation of accident, “it often happens that the artist, instead of abandoning the work in which chance has intervened against his will, manages to use the accident.” (Souriau, 2004: 21). Auguste Rodin gave two examples of utilization of real accident with his sculptures The Tragic Muse or Man with the Broken Nose. The artist must learn to compose, to improvise according to factors outside his wishes.

As Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) or Francis Bacon (1909-1992) said, the essence of accident is by nature unreproducible because it does not result from an intention of the artist. As curator at the Gallery Seescape in Chiang Mai (Thailand), I personally encountered this phenomena in 2016 for the exhibition “True of False” by Kade Javanalikhikara. During the installation of the 26 different printmaking letters of the alphabet on one wall, on one of the frames the thread used to hang the print was reversed, thus positioning a letter of the alphabet upside down. After a short discussion with the artist, we decided to hang the artwork as such. Although this accident was anecdotal, this situation requires a quality of the artist to be able to listen to the world around him, to have an open mind, to be in the right place at the right time. The omnipresence of conceptual art – the idea or concept becoming the most important aspect of the work – on the international art scene, as well as the transformation of the artist’s studio increasingly becoming a “factory of workers,” has logically implications on the artwork. Indeed, by no longer accomplishing their works themselves, a gap is arising between artist and their artworks, which is likely to promulgate the loss of the “accident” in art.

Contrary to accident, chance appears more neutral, something you encounter without any conscious effort or plan. Once again, this definition too seems different in the art world. To illustrate this theme, the legend of Japanese printmaker and painter Hokusai (1760-1849) as recalled by Henri Focillon (1881-1943) concerning “Eloge de la main” (In Praise of Hands) gives us the first clues.

Indeed, to paint a landscape showing autumn red maple leaves falling on the Tatsuta River, Hokusai took hold of a live rooster, dipped the animal’s feet in red pigment and encouraged it to walk onto a long sheet of paper. 1 Legend or true story, this anecdote appears as another topos. If Hokusai did not control the movement of the rooster, he, however, perfectly thought the process of achieving his painting; leaving chance to act. When Tristan Tzara composed poems from words previously cut up from an article of newspaper and randomly picked from a hat, or Jean Arp realized the series of collage work by tearing pieces of paper in different colours into squares, and glued them just as they fell, can we say that these works were made by chance? When artworks are executed by using organized randomness based on a method previously elaborated by the artist, can we really call it chance? Of course not! Do not be fooled! Luck is a meaningful phenomenon and as Pierre Boulez argues not a “randomly inadvertent” game created in order to mask a weakness of the composition. As Sarah Troches (2015: 22) demonstrates, citing André Boucourechliev, “there is no chance in art, [...] because a work is the product of the causes which, in spite of all possible “manipulations”, refer to the concerted choices of an operator.” To describe this phenomena, Sarah Troches uses the term “methodical chance” as an oxymoron which puts forward the preparatory methodological work of the artist to capture “chance.” Kanayama Akira (b.1929) painting with an automatic toy car or Compressions or Expansions of César Baldaccini (1921-1998) are thoughtful artworks. Nevertheless, artist do not control all the criteria, and their intention confronts the will of matter or other factors.

For several years now, we are witnessing a new phenomenon, a “mutation of chance” in the world of art with the apparition of generative art or algorithmic art, mainly due to technological advances, which no longer touches only the 1 Focillon, Henri. In 2014, to celebrate 10 years of his private contemporary art Foundation “La Maison Rouge,” art collector Antoine de Galbert organized a special exhibition with more than 1200 works and 800 artists from his private collection. The point of interest here is that he entrusted the selection and display of the works to a computer program (following a mathematical algorithm called “Monte Carlo method”), that decides the hanging of the works according to their measurements. At a time when curatorial studies and art critics’ curriculum become more and more numerous, this exhibition shows a hanging of artworks that bypasses the classifications of the history of art as those of the market. Different from the initiative of Antoine de Galbert, “Random ()4” is a collective digital exhibition where twenty artists have decided to delegate the choices usually made by the curator to a program and the spectators. Every ten minutes, the program selects four of the forty or so works in the database for display in the gallery. The spectator/user can, in this period of time, select other artworks that will replace those already displayed. The example of this exhibition reflects the evolution of the usage of chance in the art world. Aware of the creative benefits of chance, the artists summon it to the heart of their artistic process. In conclusion, from the sponge to the algorithm, “it is reasonable to conclude that the role of chance in art today is real, but more limited than is generally thought, occurring at certain stages of creation or development, interpretation, but to lose immediately, through the intervention of the artist, its randomness.” (Souriau, 2004: 78) Sebastien Teyac

creation of an artwork but mainly the exhibition. By transmitting randomly selected data to the game engine, the artist can create videos featuring unexpected shapes and movements which are called “generative videos”. Grégory Chatonsky2 or Ryoichi Kurokawa3, are representative of this artistic approach. For Philip Galanter generative art “refers to any art practice where the artist uses a system, such as a set of natural language rules, a computer program, a machine, or other procedural invention, which is set into motion with some degree of autonomy contributing to or resulting in a completed work of art.”

Nowa metoda wspierająca wynalazek w rysowaniu oryginalnych kompozycji krajobrazu (Alexander Cozens), Tragiczna muza (Auguste Rodin), Trzy standardowe zatrzymania (Marcel Duchamp), Kwadraty rozmieszczone zgodnie z regułą przypadku (Jean Arp), Kolory widma ułożone przez Przypadek 1 (Ellsworth Kelly), Muzyka przypadku (John Cage), Anegdotyczna topografia przypadku (Daniel Spoerri), Przypadkowa dystrybucja 40.000 kwadratów przy użyciu parzystych i nieparzystych numerów z książki telefonicznej (François Morellet), Uległy kamień (Gabriel Orozco), Rzeźba FedEx-u (Walead Beshty), Octfalls (Ryoichi Kurokawa)…

Wszystkie dzieła znajdujące się na tej liście powstały przez wypadek, lub przypadek. Ta wspólna cecha tych dzieł reprezentujących dziedziny literatury, rzeźby, malarstwa, muzyki, czy wideo, mająca miejsce podczas procesu twórczego nie jest niczym nowym, lub szczególnym. Niemniej jednak, czy możliwe jest umieszczenie wszystkich prac wymienionych w tej samej kategorii, aby rozważyć znaczenia słów wypadek i przypadek jako synonimów? Mnożenie kolejnych terminów w XX wieku w celu zakwalifikowania tego procesu – takich jak, „kontrolowana szansa” (Pierre Boulez, 1925-2016), „nieoznaczoność” (John Cage, 1912-1992), „zaprogramowana szansa” (Etienne Souriau,1892-1979), „metodyczna szansa” i „przypadkowa szansa” (Sarah Troche), „zasadnicza niepewność” lub „operacyjna niepewność” (Jacques Monod) – wydaje się wskazywać na coś przeciwnego. Dla Marcela Duchampa (1889-1968), w przeciwieństwie do czysto „siatkówkowej” sztuki, mającej na celu jedynie sprawianie przyjemności dla oka „ta szansa jest jedynym sposobem uniknięcia kontrolowania tego, co racjonalne” (Girst, 2014: 42). W tym rozumieniu praktyka Duchampa przyjmuje wypadki i przypadki, ponieważ jest to również sposób na to, aby „pomóc mu w ucieczce przed własnym gustem i poczuciem estetyki”. Zasadę tę przyjęli jako swoje credo dadaiści, którzy głosili anty-sztukę, sztukę absurdu i nonsensu, ale także propagowali „działania, które później rozwinęły niektóre z ich założeń, takich jak abstrakcyjny ekspresjonizm w „automatyzm”, a Fluxus w korzystanie z losowych kombinacji (Gamboni, 1999: 205), jednakże historyk sztuki, Denys Riout, wyjaśnił, że takie postrzeganie jest „przeciwne obrazowi absolutnej kontroli artysty nad swoim dziełem” (2000: 31), a szczególnie znaczeniu jego intencji. Słowa Francisa Bacona podczas wywiadu z Davidem Sylvesterem dostarczają nam wskazówek dla lepszego zrozumienia tego tematu. Jak mówi Bacon, „Myślę, że przypadek, który mógłbym nazwać szczęściem, jest jednym z najważniejszych i żyznych aspektów[…] jest prawdą, że przez wiele lat rozmyślam o przypadku i możliwościach wykorzystania tego, co niesie ze sobą przypadek i nigdy nie wiem, ile jest w nim czystego przypadku, a ile manipulacji” (Sylvester, 2016: 59-60). Biorąc pod uwagę terminy używane przez Francisa Bacona – takie jak, „wypadek, szczęście, przypadek, lub manipulacja”, celem tego tekstu będzie podkreślenie użycia wypadku lub przypadku, i ewolucji ich wykorzystania w świecie sztuki XX i XXI wieku.

Wypadek jest powszechnie postrzegany jako coś przypadkowego, niefortunnego i zasadniczo negatywnego. Zgodnie z taką logiką, wydarzenia które miały miejsce w Walker Art Center w Minneapolis, kiedy stalowa płyta „Rzeźby nr. 3” Richarda Sierry spadła i zabiła jej wykonawcę Raymonda Johnsona, zdają się być zgodne z dosłownym znaczeniem idei „wypadku”. Przeciwnie, w świecie sztuki, słowo „wypadek” przybiera inne, bardziej pozytywne znaczenie. Gdyby powstała historia sztuki tego pojęcia, zaczęłaby się ona od „trzech gąbek” starożytnych malarzy greckich: Protogenesa, Nealkesa, czy Apellesa, którzy przypadkowo, w przypływie gniewu, rzucili gąbkami w swoje płótna, osiągając skutek piany na pyskach psów/koni, który to efekt był nieosiągalny dla innych malarzy.

Ta anegdota, czy też literacki topos, napisana przez Pliniusza Starszego (23-79 n.e.) i Dio Chryzostoma (40 – 115 n.e.) została również wspomniana w Esejach Michela de Montaigne (1533-1592) i w ostatnim rozdziale Sartor Resartus Thomasa Carlyle’a (1795-1881).

W obliczu sytuacji wypadku, „często się zdarza, że artyście, zamiast porzucić swoje dzieło, w które, wbrew jego woli, zainterweniował przypadek, udaje się wykorzystać ten wypadek” (Souriau, 2004: 21). Auguste Rodin podał dwa przykłady wykorzystania prawdziwego wypadku w swoich rzeźbach Tragiczna Muza, czy Mężczyzna ze złamanym nosem. Mężczyzna musi nauczyć się komponować, improwizować według czynników poza sferą jego życzeń. Tak jak powiedzieli Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985), czy Francis Bacon (1909-1992), istota wypadku jest z natury niereprodukowalna, ponieważ nie jest rezultatem intencji autora. Pracując jako kurator w galerii Seescape w Chiang Mai (Tajlandia), osobiście zderzyłem się z tym zjawiskiem podczas przygotowywania wystawy

Gdyby Hokusai nie kontrolował ruchu koguta, on jednakże doskonale wymyślił proces ukończenia obrazu; pozostawiając przypadek działaniu. Kiedy Tristan Tzara skomponował wiersze ze słów, które uprzednio wyciął z gazetowego artykułu i losowo wybierał je z kapelusza, lub gdy Jean Arp zrealizował serię prac kolażowych, wydzierając różnokolorowe kwadraty z papieru, i przyklejając je tam gdzie upadły, czy można powiedzieć, że te prace powstały przypadkiem? Kiedy dzieła sztuki powstają w wyniku zorganizowanej przypadkowości opartej na metodzie uprzednio wypracowanej przez artystę, czy naprawdę możemy nazwać to przypadkiem? Oczywiście, że nie! Nie dajcie się ogłupić! Szczęście jest znaczącym zjawiskiem, i tak jak twierdzi Pierre Boulez, nie jest „losowo nieumyślną” grą, stworzoną, żeby zamaskować słabość kompozycji. Tak jak demonstruje to Sarach Troches (2015: 22), cytując André Boucourechlieva, „w sztuce nie ma przypadku, [...]ponieważ dzieło jest produktem przyczyn, które na przekór wszystkim możliwym „manipulacjom”, odnosi się do zgodnych wyborów operatora.”. Żeby opisać to zjawisko, Sarah Troches używa terminu „metodyczny przypadek”, jako oksymoronu, który zakłada wstępną, metodologiczną pracę artysty, aby uchwycił on „przypadek/szansę”. Kanayama Akira (ur. 1929) malujący zabawkowym samochodzikiem automatycznym, lub Kompresje i Ekspansje Césara Baldaccini (1921-1998) są przemyślanymi pracami. Od kilku już lat jesteśmy świadkami nowego zjawiska, „mutacji przypadku” w świecie sztuki o wyglądzie sztuki generatywnej, lub sztuki algorytmicznej, głównie z powodu postępu technologicznego, który nie tylko dotyka samego tworzenia dzieła sztuki, ale przede wszystkim tworzenia wystawy. Poprzez transmitowania losowo wybranych danych do silnika gry, artysta może stworzyć filmy wideo, przedstawiając niespodziewane kształty i ruchy, które nazywane są „generatywnymi filmami wideo”. Reprezentantami tego kierunku artystycznego są Grégory Chatonsky2 i Ryoichi Kurokawa3. Dla Philipa Galantera sztuka generatywna „odnosi się do wszelkich praktyk sztuki, gdzie artysta wykorzystuje system, taki jak zestaw naturalnych zasad językowych, program komputerowy, maszynę, lub inny proceduralny wynalazek, który jest wprowadzony w ruch z pewną dozą autonomii, przyczyniając się, lub osiągając skutek w ukończonym dziele sztuki”. W roku 2014, z okazji 10-lecia istnienia prywatnej fundacji sztuki „La Maison Rouge”, kolekcjoner Antoine de Galbert, zorganizował specjalną wystawę z udziałem ponad 800 artystów i 1200 prac ze swojej prywatnej kolekcji. Głównym punktem zainteresowania jest fakt, iż powierzył on wybór i wystawę prac programowi komputerowemu (zgodnie z algorytmem matematycznym nazwanym „metodą Monte Carlo”), który decydował o rozwieszeniu prac zgodnie z ich wymiarami.

W czasach, kiedy programy studiów muzealniczych i historii sztuki stają się coraz bardziej liczne, ta wystawa pokazuje sposób eksponowania dzieł sztuki, który omija wszelkie rynkowe klasyfikacje historii sztuki.

„True of False” (Prawda fałszu) Kade Javanalikhikara w 2016 roku. Podczas instalacji 26 czcionek alfabetu na jednej ze ścian, w jednej z ram linka odwróciła się, co spowodowało powieszenie czcionki do góry nogami. Po krótkiej dyskusji z artystą, postanowiliśmy powiesić kompozycję w ten właśnie sposób. Chociaż ten wypadek był anegdotyczny, sytuacja taka wymaga od artysty umiejętności wsłuchania się w otaczający go świat, posiadania otwartego umysłu, bycia w odpowiednim miejscu, w odpowiednim czasie.

Wszechobecność sztuki konceptualnej – pomysł lub koncepcja, które stają się najważniejszym aspektem dzieła – na międzynarodowej scenie sztuki, jak również przekształcenie pracowni artysty, które coraz częściej staje się „fabryką robotników”, mają swój logiczny wpływ na dzieło sztuki. Rzeczywiście, nie realizując swoich dzieł samodzielnie, powstaje luka pomiędzy artystą a jego pracami, co prawdopodobnie może wieszczyć utratę „wypadku” w sztuce.

Natomiast zbiorowa wystawa cyfrowa „Random ()4” różni się bardzo od pomysłu Antoine’a de Galberta. Na wystawie tej 20 artystów zdecydowało się powierzyć wybory, zwykle czynione przez kuratora wystawy, programowi i widzom. Co 10 minut, program wybiera cztery z czterdziestu prac z bazy danych do pokazania w galerii. Widz/użytkownik może w tym czasie wybrać inne dzieła sztuki, które zastąpią te już wystawione. Przykład takiej wystawy odzwierciedla ewolucję użycia przypadku/szansy w świecie sztuki. Świadomi twórczych korzyści przypadku, artyści przywołują go do serca swojego procesu artystycznego. Podsumowując, od gąbki, do algorytmu, „uzasadnionym jest stwierdzić, że obecnie rola przypadku w sztuce jest prawdziwa, ale bardziej ograniczona, niż się ogólnie uważa, przypadku pojawiającego się na pewnych etapach kreacji i rozwoju interpretacji, ale natychmiast gubiącego, w wyniku interwencji artysty, swoją przypadkowość” (Souriau, 2004: 78).

to a huge debate on the essence and definition of the art, which was eagerly accepted by the following artists. Jackson Pollock created spontaneous action painting . A random-oriented form of a happening was also born then. Iannis Xenakis combined the process of composing music with the theory of games. In recent years, the generative art has developed, where the artist gives us the full control over the shape of the artwork on behalf of a machine, code, or computer programme. A similar principle is employed by a more and more popular procedural generation process in computer games. It means that certain elements of the game world are created randomly by the program based on the algorithms established by the author. And these algorithms, to dire despair of the Dadaists, show, to how a limited extend, a man can harness a chance to a formal co-creation of a work of art.

In each of these examples, the art did not fully become a coincidence (or vice versa). In accidentality, the infinite number of variables is the most important, while in the work of the artist, their number is always complete. Making a poem out of the words drawn from a hat requires the choice of words that are in this hat. That is programming a chance. Similar artistic experiments certainly expand the area of possible artistic ventures. Still they remain defenceless against a pure coincidence – it cannot be tamed. So maybe it would be better to describe it ?

Unbearable weight of accidentality The category of accidentality in art may be considered at least three levels. In the simplified division, the first level would embrace the influence of chance on the form of the work of art. The second – its theme and content. The third one would characterize the unpredictable lot in the wider cultural context, which could be defined as axiological or philosophical. Let us briefly get through all of these layers.

For a long time, incident have been programmatically castrated from the art. Aristotle wrote on the pages of his Metaphysics “[...] to art and science one can get through experience. For – »the experience made the art, [...] and the lack of experience – a chance«”1.

Techné, as the art was described in the antiquity, was connected with a skill of a craftsman based on the knowledge of making things. In the ideal proportions of a man and the world there was no place for the random or inexplicable events. The chance was considered as something irrational, which lies beyond the interest of the art or science. A similar view had survived for a remarkably long time. It was only in the 17th century when randomness, while researching the random games, awoke the interest of the mathematics. Two centuries later, the photography capturing the life in its unsettled fragility was invented. Ephemerality of events became one of the main inspirations for the Impressionists working at the end of the 19th century. However, the assignment of a chance to the realm of reason did not happen until the 30s of the 20th century, when the theory of probability had been settled for good. Up till then the coincidence was generally considered to be totally irrational2. And this was what made it so attractive to Dadaists.

They were interested in chance as in „conscious principle of disorganisation, decoupling, anarchy. So in the field of the art – anti-art” 3. Dadaists wanted to give the forms of their works to chance – poems were created from words randomly drawn from the hat, pictures were glued from the parts of the torn out drawings. Such a radical departure from the accepted canons soon led 22 INCIDENT IV - ACCIDENT

Storytelling often contains in itself an element of ordained fate, which constructs, to some extent, a story line. For example – in the films, incidental events happen all the time. They drive forward slapstick gags of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. We shall find them in the popular contemporary romantic comedies (a man and a woman have to come across each other by a bizarre coincidence). Still, the incident is not presented, but only made use of in them. It serves as a technical tool to set the action in motion. Whereas, it is the treatment of an incident as a specific topic that seems to be much more profound and intriguing, i.e., writing it into the foundations of the experienced world of the work of art. One of the forerunners in this area is certainly Michelangelo Antonioni.

In Adventure (1960) the Italian director reversed a classical model of the cinema based on the logical narrative, cause-and-result sequence and the final achievement of the purposes for which the protagonist was heading. Neither to the participants of the events, nor to us – the observers, the story is presented as a whole. It is governed by some unknown and inexplicable forces.

The world becomes a puzzle that cannot be resolved by the viewer. Krzysztof Loska called that element of the film “an element of unsettlement”.4 It can be found in other films by Antonioni (especially in Blow-up of 1966) and many other filmmakers.

In Nashville (1975), Robert Altman portraits a contemporary America through a steady stream of reality. The lots of 24 main characters meander one next to the other – sometimes they combine, or fall apart. They have, or they do not have any influence on each other. They are subordinated to accidents. The American filmmaker receives his “element of unsettlement”, not by the shortage of information, as Antonioni does, but by its excess. There is so much happening on the screen that a viewer is not able to distinguish the important from the trivial. Altman achieves this effect by means of a polyphonic narrative, freedom of staging, panoramic approach in the acoustic sphere, where various dialogues, melodies and off- sounds5 overlap one another repeatedly. Eventually both artists distract the viewer from the safe and sound thinking of a logically functioning world. They present a disorderly and unrecognizable reality. “Antonioni managed to gain a great thing”, once claimed Tadeusz Sobolewski. “With his films, he writes again the mystery into the boundaries of our desacralized world, without referring to any religious symbols.

This path was later on followed by Kieślowski”6.

The average life expectancy of a modern man is an insignificant fraction of the time stating for how long a human race exists in this world. It is a completely uncountable fraction of several billions of years throughout which the Universe has existed.

UY Scuti is the largest star known to us in the Universe. Her volume exceeds the volume of the Sun by 5 billon times. These few simple insights allow you to realise the absurdity and randomness of one’s own existence. “Desacralized world”, in a sense, INCIDENT IV - ACCIDENT 23

Is it not, however, the most significant purpose of the art to realize and include into the circle of the thought of an individual the ideas that are the hardest and the toughest to swallow? The art does not have – and some would even say that it cannot – bring a relief. It has, opposite to anti-reflexive entertainment and order-building religion, go far beyond its therapeutic function.

At this point, it is certainly a chance that appears as one of the most relevant categories to present the questions posed by a contemporary man.

Nieznośny ciężar akcydentalności

Kategorię przypadku w sztuce rozpatrywać można na co najmniej trzech poziomach. W uproszczonym podziale pierwszy z tych poziomów obejmowałby wpływ przypadku na formę dzieła. Drugi – na jego temat i treść. Trzeci charakteryzowałby nieprzewidywalny los w szerszym kontekście kulturowym, który można by nazwać aksjologicznym lub nawet filozoficznym. Postarajmy się pokrótce przejść przez wszystkie z wymienionych warstw.

Przypadek przez długie lata był ze sztuki programowo wykastrowany. Arystoteles na kartach Metafizyki pisał: [...] do nauki i sztuki dochodzi się u ludzi poprzez doświadczenie. Albowiem – »doświadczenie uczyniło sztukę, [...] a brak doświadczenia – przypadek«”1. Techné, jak określano sztukę w starożytności, łączono z rzemieślniczą sprawnością podyktowaną konkretną wiedzą o wytwarzaniu przedmiotów.

W idealnych proporcjach człowieka i świata nie było miejsca na zdarzenia losowe lub niewytłumaczalne. Przypadek uznano za coś nieracjonalnego, co leży poza zainteresowaniem nauki i sztuki. Podobny pogląd przetrwał zadziwiająco długo. Dopiero w XVII wieku akcydentalnością, w ramach badań nad grami losowymi, zainteresowała się matematyka. Dwa stulecia później powstała łapiąca życie w jego nieustabilizowanej kruchości fotografia. Efemeryczność zdarzeń stała się jedną z głównych inspiracji dla działających pod koniec XIX wieku impresjonistów. Przypisanie przypadku do sfery rozumu nastąpiło jednak dopiero w latach 30. XX wieku, kiedy ugruntowała się na dobre teoria prawdopodobieństwa. Do tej pory zbieg okoliczności nadal uznawany był powszechnie za zupełnie irracjonalny2.

I to właśnie najbardziej pociągało w nim dadaistów.

means it. It is a reality open to chance, where – as Frederic Nietzsche stated in the 19th century – “God is dead”, and therefore the idea of a perfect, cosmic order watching over the human being fell into ruin. Such a notion enhances the sense of threat, loss of sense, chaos. The simplest reaction to it is a scream of fright, which- maybe- is symbolized by the agonal scream of Witek, a hero of Incident (1981) by Krzysztof Kieślowski. Next to the scream, there is the laughter of hopeless acceptance.

Already in the 70s of the last century, Maria Janion rightly pointed out that the ancient tragedy had been supplanted by the absurd in the contemporary culture7. Fatality had been replaced by the irony of the fate. Many modernist and post-modern forms efficiently make use of it revealing a total unpredictability and irrationality of existence8. The American parodist animated series Rick and Morty (Dan Harmon, Justin Roiland, 2013–) also makes use of this theory, where the lot of a man is brought about to an insignificant role of one of the uncountable thousands of species of beings in the Universe (not to mention the infinite number of other us from the alternative realities). One has to acknowledge that it is rather painful in reference to some anthropocentric notions.

Przypadek interesował ich „jako świadoma zasada dezorganizacji, rozprzężenia, anarchii. A więc w dziedzinie sztuki – antysztuka”3.

Dadaiści chcieli oddać formę swych prac akcydentowi – wiersze tworzyli ze słów wylosowanych z kapelusza, obrazy sklejali z fragmentów potarganych rysunków. Na tyle radykalne odejście od przyjętych kanonów niedługo doprowadziło do ogromnej debaty nad istotą i definicją sztuki, z której skwapliwie skorzystali kolejni twórcy. Jackson Pollock stworzył spontaniczne action painting.

Zrodziła się także, nastawiona na incydentalność, forma happeningu. Iannis Xenakis połączył proces komponowania muzyki z teorią gier. W ostatnich latach szczególnie rozwinęła się sztuka generatywna, w której artysta zrzeka się pełnej kontroli nad kształtem dzieła na rzecz maszyny, kodu lub programu komputerowego. Na nieco podobnej zasadzie funkcjonuje, coraz bardziej popularny, proces generacji proceduralnej w grach komputerowych. Oznacza on, że pewne elementy świata gry są tworzone losowo przez program na podstawie ustalonych przez autora algorytmów. I te algorytmy właśnie, ku niechybnej rozpaczy dadaistów, ukazują w jak ograniczonym stopniu człowiek może zaprzęgnąć przypadek do formalnego współtworzenia dzieła. W każdym bowiem z wymienionych tu przykładów sztuka nie stała się w pełni zbiegiem okoliczności (lub nad odwrót). W akcydentalności najważniejsza jest nieskończona ilość zmiennych, w pracy artysty ich liczba jest zawsze skończona. Stworzenie wiersza ze słów wylosowanych z kapelusza wymaga wyboru słów, które się w tym kapeluszu znajdą. Czyli „zaprogramowania” przypadku. Podobne artystyczne eksperymenty z pewnością poszerzają pole możliwych działań sztuki. Wobec prawdziwego zbiegu okoliczności pozostają jednak bezbronne – nie mogą go okiełznać. Może lepiej więc go opisać?

Opowiadanie historii często zawiera w sobie element zrządzenia losu, który konstruuje w pewnym stopniu linię fabularną.

Przykładowo – w filmach zdarzenia przypadkowe występują nagminnie. Napędzają slapstickowe gagi Charliego Chaplina i Bustera Keatona, odnajdziemy je także w popularnych współcześnie komediach romantycznych (mężczyzna i kobieta zawsze muszą wpaść na siebie przedziwnym trafem). Akcydent nie zostaje w nich jednak przedstawiony, a jedynie wykorzystany. Służy więc wyłącznie jako techniczne narzędzie do wprawienia akcji w ruch. Znacznie bardziej doniosłym i intrygującym zdaje się potraktowanie przypadku jako swoistego tematu tzn. wpisanie go w fundamenty świata przeżywanego dzieła. Jednym z prekursorów w tej dziedzinie jest z pewnością Michelangelo Antonioni.

W Przygodzie (1960) włoski reżyser odwrócił klasyczny model kina oparty na logicznej narracji, ciągu przyczynowo-skutkowym i finałowym osiągnięciu celów, do których zmierzał bohater. Przedstawiona przezeń rzeczywistość nie wydaje się racjonalna.

Poznajemy tylko jej powierzchnię. Ani uczestnikom zdarzeń, ani nam – obserwatorom, opowieść nie jest dana jako całość. Rządzą nią siły niezrozumiałe i niewytłumaczalne. Świat staje się zagadką, której widz nie potrafi rozwiązać. Krzysztof Loska nazwał ten pierwiastek filmu „elementem nierozstrzygalności”4. Znaleźć go można tak w kolejnych dziełach Antonioniego (szczególnie w Powiększeniu z 1966), jak i u innych twórców. W Nashville (1975) Robert Altman portretuje ówczesną Amerykę poprzez nieprzerwany strumień rzeczywistości. Średnia długość życia współczesnego człowieka jest niewiele znaczącym ułamkiem tego, jak długo istnieje na świecie ludzka rasa.

Jest zaś kompletnie niepoliczalnym ułamkiem kilkunastu miliardów lat, które istnieje sam wszechświat. UY Scuti to największa znana nam gwiazda w uniwersum. Jej objętość przekracza objętość Słońca 5 miliardów razy. Tych kilka bardzo prostych spostrzeżeń pozwala uświadomić sobie absurdalność i incydentalność własnej egzystencji. „Zdesakralizowany świat” poniekąd ją oznacza. Jest rzeczywistością otwartą na przypadek, w której – jak w XIX wieku ogłosił Fryderyk Nietzsche – „Bóg umarł”, a zatem legła w gruzach idea doskonałego, kosmicznego porządku czuwającego nad bytem człowieka. Taka myśl wzmaga poczucie zagrożenia, utraty sensu, chaosu. Najprostszą reakcją na nią jest krzyk przerażania, który – być może – symbolizowany jest przez przedśmiertny wrzask Witka, bohatera Przypadku (1981) Krzysztofa Kieślowskiego. Obok krzyku pozostaje śmiech bezradnej akceptacji. Maria Janion, już w latach 70., słusznie podkreśliła, że starożytny tragizm wyparty został w nowoczesnej kulturze przez absurd7. Fatum zastąpiła ironia losu. Sprawnie korzysta z tego wiele modernistycznych i postmodernistycznych tworów, ukazując kompletną nieprzewidywalność i irracjonalność egzystencji8. W wybitnie parodystycznej formie podobną tezą bawi się m.in. amerykański serial animowany Rick i Morty (Dan Harmon, Justin Roiland, 2013–), który byt człowieka sprowadza do mało istotnej roli jednego z nieprzeliczonych tysięcy gatunków istnień we wszechświecie (nie wspominając nawet o nieskończonej liczbie innych siebie z alternatywnych rzeczywistości). Dla antropocentrycznych wyobrażeń trochę to, trzeba przyznać, bolesne.

Czy nie jest to jednak ostatecznie najważniejszy cel sztuki, by uświadamiać i włączać w krąg myśli jednostki te najtrudniejsze i najcięższe do przełknięcia idee? Sztuka nie musi – a niektórzy powiedzieliby nawet, że nie może – przynosić ukojenia.

Ma, w przeciwieństwie tak do antyrefleksyjnej rozrywki, jak i do ładotwórczej religii, wybiegać daleko poza funkcję terapeutyczną.

W tym miejscu zaś, jako jedna z najtrafniejszych kategorii do ukazania pytań stawianych przez dzisiejszego człowieka, z pewnością pojawia przypadek.

czasem rozpadają. Mają lub nie mają na siebie wpływu. Są podporządkowane akcydentom. Amerykański filmowiec otrzymuje swój „element nierozstrzygalności” nie poprzez niedobór informacji, jak Antonioni, ale poprzez ich nadmiar. Na ekranie dzieje się tyle, że widz nie jest w stanie odróżnić istotnego od trywialnego. Altman osiąga ów efekt polifoniczną narracją, swobodą inscenizacyjną i panoramicznością sfery akustycznej, w której wielokrotnie nakładają się na siebie różne dialogi, melodie i dźwięki pozakadrowe5.

Ostatecznie obaj autorzy wybijają odbiorcę z bezpiecznego i pokrzepiającego myślenia o logicznie funkcjonującym świecie. Zadają pytania, na które nie ma gotowych odpowiedzi. Prezentują rzeczywistość nieuporządkowaną i niepoznawalną. „Antonioni dokonał wielkiej rzeczy”, stwierdzał swego czasu Tadeusz Sobolewski. „Swoimi filmami wpisuje ponownie tajemnicę w obręb naszego zdesakralizowanego świata, nie odwołując się do żadnych religijnych symboli. Tą samą drogą szedł potem Kieślowski”6.

“la roggia” Pordenone La storia di un Centro Culturale finisce inevitabilmente per coincidere in molti punti con quella del territorio dove opera, specialmente quando la direzione dell’intervento e della ricerca è quella abbastanza specifica e particolare della cultura visiva contemporanea.

“La roggia” ha visto inesorabilmente coincidere la sua vicenda con quella più ampia e generale della Provincia di Pordenone per una serie di motivi legati alla peculiarità del suo lavoro, alla condizione dell’ambiente e, per molti aspetti, anche alle date cronologiche.

Nata come agenzia della “Contemporarte” nel 1970 - subito dopo la costituzione ufficiale della Provincia di Pordenone - per quasi vent’ anni la galleria “la roggia” fu poi il punto di riferimento per tutta la provincia e per gran parte della regione, come sede privilegiata per iniziative ispirate alle più recenti acquisizioni della cultura visiva: in questa funzione realizzò oltre trecento mostre che ebbero l’effetto di svegliare il gusto sonnacchioso degli abitanti (almeno rispetto alle arti ed alla loro fruibilità), di richiamare a Pordenone artisti da tutta Italia e, soprattutto, di stimolare vivacemente gli artisti del territorio, sia quelli già riconosciuti e legati, in qualche modo, ad una tradizione locale di gusto e di interessi, sia anche - e particolarmente - i giovani che si accostavano ad un diverso modo di intendere il fatto estetico.

Fu soprattutto con queste nuove realtà che “la roggia” svolse il lavoro più intenso, proponendoli in tutte le sedi e in tutti i modi possibili, con scambi, mostre itineranti e organizzazioni varie in Italia e all’estero. Nel 1989, “la roggia” cambiò la sua ragione sociale e si trasformò in Associazione Culturale.

Contemporaneamente avviò un processo di rinnovamento anche delle intenzioni, proponendo i grandi protagonisti dell’arte contemporanea e intensificando soprattutto i rapporti con l’esterno, sia proponendo artisti della regione, sia utilizzando anche la propria sede per ospitare artisti che venivano in Italia (e a Pordenone) per effetto degli scambi organizzati con analoghe strutture in tutta Europa. In oltre quattro decenni di attività e in un migliaio circa di mostre (tra quelle in sede e quelle realizzate un po’ dappertutto nel mondo) “la roggia” è riuscita ad offrire un quadro sempre abbastanza efficace e corrispondente alla realtà del territorio, di volta in volta aggiornando il quadro con la proposta delle giovani emergenze.

Avvicinandosi il cinquantesimo anniversario dalla nascita, l’Associazione Culturale “la roggia” offre anche l’opportunità di documentare uno spaccato della storia locale in un ambito importante e delicato come quello della cultura visiva e dimostrando, in buona sostanza, che la “periferia” non è assolutamente “marginalità” ma solo un modo diverso e specifico di entrare nel dibattito sull’arte e parteciparvi con tutte le energie che la provincia di Pordenone riesce ad esprimere.

“INCIDENT 4 – ACCIDENT” si presenta come occasione utile ed opportuna per riassumere il lavoro svolto da “la roggia” e per proporre presenze antiche (Pope, Cecere, Giammarco Roccagli) insieme ad operatori che hanno percorso un largo tratto (Romanin e Sburelin) fino alle più recenti presenze (Capecci e Angelo Roccagli) con le loro specificità di linguaggio e, in qualche modo, con i segni della “storia” che nel percorso hanno vissuto e talvolta segnato:

The history of the Cultural Centre inevitably coincides in many points with the history of the place where it is located, especially where its activity concerns the specific activities and research in the area of contemporary visual art. ”la roggia” Centre merged its history with the extensive and general history of Pordenone province, for a couple of reasons dictated by, inter alia, the specificity of the work, conditions created by the environment, and also the chronology of events.

Commenced as the Agency of Modern Art in 1970 - immediately after the official formation of Pordenone province, the gallery “la roggia”, for almost 20 years was a reference point for the entire province and for the large part of the region, as a place open for the initiative inspired by actual achievements of visual art. Within this function, the centre realised 300 exhibitions that awoke the dormant tastes of the residents ( at least in terms of the art and access to it) attracted to Pordenone the artists from all over Italy and, above all, gave a strong impetus to both local artists and the already acknowledged once and combined in some way with the local tradition of tastes and interests, as well as the young ones who perceived the aesthetic issues in a completely different way.

It is for this new reality that „la roggia” struggled the most by introducing it everywhere where it was possible and by using all possible means, e.g., using the artistic exchanges, mobile exhibitions and numerous organisations in Italy and abroad.

Historia Ośrodka Kulturalnego w sposób nieunikniony zbiega się w wielu punktach z historią miejsca, na terenie którego działa, zwłaszcza tam, gdzie dotyczy specyficznych działań i badań w obszarze współczesnej sztuki wizualnej. Ośrodek „la roggia” połączył swoje dzieje z obszernymi i powszechnymi dziejami prowincji Pordenone, z kilku powodów, podyktowanych między innymi specyfiką pracy, warunkami stworzonymi przez środowisko, a pod wieloma względami także chronologią zdarzeń. Zapoczątkowana jako Agencja Sztuki Współczesnej w 1970 r. - zaraz po oficjalnym powstaniu prowincji Pordenone – galeria „la roggia” przez prawie 20 lat była punktem odniesienia dla całej prowincji oraz dla sporej części regionu, jako miejsce otwarte na inicjatywy inspirowane aktualnymi osiągnięciami sztuki wizualnej. W ramach tej funkcji, zrealizowała 300 wystaw, które w efekcie rozbudziły uśpione gusta mieszkańców (przynajmniej w kwestii sztuki i dostępu do niej), przyciągnęły do Pordenone artystów z całych Włoch, a przede wszystkim dały silny bodziec zarówno artystom lokalnym, już uznanym i łączonym w pewien sposób z lokalną tradycją gustów oraz zainteresowań, jak i tym młodym, którzy kwestie estetyki pojmowali w zupełnie inny sposób. To właśnie dla tej nowej rzeczywistości „la roggia” starała się najbardziej, wprowadzając ją wszędzie tam, gdzie to możliwe i na wszelkie sposoby, wykorzystując do tego wymiany artystyczne, mobilne wystawy oraz wszelkie organizacje na terenie Włoch oraz za granicą.

In 1989, “la roggia” changes the form of its activity and became a Cultural Association. At the same time, it revised its objectives offering the viewers the great names of modern art, intensifying the relationships with foreign countries and by presenting local artists. It used its headquarters to host the artists visiting Italy and Pordenone thanks to the artistic exchanges organised in cooperation with the analogical structures in the whole Europe. For over four subsequent decades of its activity, due to nearly a thousand exhibitions organised at spot and all over the world, “la roggia” always presented the big picture, which referred to the reality of the territory, sometimes enriching it with the ideas of the young artists.

W 1989 r. „la roggia” zmieniła formę swej działalności i stała się Stowarzyszeniem Kulturalnym. Jednocześnie zrewidowała swoje cele, proponując odbiorcom wielkie nazwiska sztuki współczesnej, intensyfikując relacje z zagranicą oraz przedstawiając artystów lokalnych. Wykorzystywała swoją siedzibę, aby gościć artystów przybyłych do Włoch i (do Pordenone) dzięki wymianom artystycznym organizowanym we współpracy z analogicznymi strukturami w całej Europie. Przez ponad cztery kolejne dekady swej działalności, dzięki blisko tysiącu wystaw (organizowanych w siedzibie i na całym świecie), „la roggia” zawsze prezentowała szerokie spojrzenie, które nawiązywało do rzeczywistości terytorium, czasami wzbogacając je o pomysły młodych artystów.

While approaching its 50th anniversary, the Cultural Association “la roggia” offers a cross-section of the local history on the basis of the issue so significant and sensitive as visual art and proves that the provincial regions are not a synonym of marginalisation.

They constitute a varies and characteristic way of conducting a dialogue about the modern art and participate in it with all the energy that Pordenone province can express.

Zbliżając się do 50 rocznicy istnienia, Stowarzyszenie Kulturalne „la roggia” oferuje przekrój historii lokalnej w oparciu o kwestię tak ważną i delikatną, jaką jest sztuka wizualna oraz udowodnia, że peryferie nie są synonimem marginalizacji. Stanowią odmienny i charakterystyczny sposób prowadzenia dialogu o sztuce i uczestniczą w niej z całą energią, jaką prowincja Pordenone potrafi wyrazić.

„INCIDENT 4 – ACCIDENT” is an appropriate opportunity to present its older accents (Pope, Cere, Giammarco Roccagli) along with the artists who have already had a long way behind them (Romanin and Sburelin), and the latest artists (Capecci and Angelo Roccagli) along with their characteristic language and footsteps in history of whose they were the witnesses, or which they often enough created.

Exhibition of Six Contemporary Visual Artists from Japan Incident 4–Accident/Konduktorownia Gallery, Czestochowa

The 6 Japanese artists represented in this exhibition, all met each other through “Sudoh Art Museum”. “Sudoh Art Museum” was created over thirty years ago, by Ichiro & Noriko Sudoh, a typical Japanese couple without specialized art education. Until one day when they visited a museum, and were deeply touched by a contemporary art painting. It stirred their hearts, and they immediately bought the work. This Incident/Accident was the catalyst that started them on the path to becoming cultural and artistic activists.

Some people may recall a movie called “Herb and Dorothy”? Ichiro & Noriko are a Japanese “Herb and Dorothy”. An ordinary couple, who buy art works, not based on their market value, but by researching developing Japanese artists, and supporting their evolving careers.

Their house has been open as the “Sudoh Art Museum” sharing their enthusiasm with interested public, and giving the opportunity to absorb new Japanese art, and support the promotion of new artists. They have also coordinated and supported social projects such as “Artists in Residence Symposium”, “Art Project for Tsunami victims of the Japan Great Earthquake 2011” and others.

They continue to support the role of the contemporary art in Japanese society.

Ichiro & Noriko always said in this way. “Our life has been changed by meeting with art. Therefore, we want the artists to be conscious of the power of art. It can change people’s life. We also want the artists to be determined and to have responsibility when they create art works.”

“The life of artists has to be an art work in itself.” “Don’t aim for neatness or skillful work. It is more important to create works that convey the attitude of the life of artist even it is unrefined.” Their hope is for artists to create works reaching to people’s heart, not to produce something on a commercial basis with superficial tidiness.

The fellowships of all the 6 Japanese artists in this exhibition last for 10 years and more. The strength and longevity of these relationships is due to the respect that the artists have for the Sudoh’s and their ethos, “taking responsibility when they create art works”, and that “their lives are the art works in themselves” and they ”create works that convey the attitude of the life”.

They have great humanity, and are rich in tenderness to empathize with other people’s thinking.

6 japońskich artystów reprezentowanych na tej wystawie spotkało się za pośrednictwem Muzeum Sztuki Sudoh. Muzeum Sztuki Sudoh zostało założone ponad trzydzieści lat temu przez Ichiro i Noriko Sudoh, przeciętne małżeństwo japońskie bez wykształcenia artystycznego. Pewnego dnia, kiedy odwiedzili oni muzeum, wielkie wrażenie wywarło na nich dzieło sztuki współczesnej. Praca ta poruszyła ich serca tak, że natychmiast ją kupili. Ten Przypadek/Wypadek był katalizatorem, który spowodował, że stali się działaczami kulturowymi i artystycznymi. Niektórzy z nas pamiętają pewnie film zatytułowany „Herb i Dorothy”? Ichiro i Noriko są japońską wersją Herba i Dorothy. Przeciętne małżeństwo, które kupuje dzieła sztuki, nie z powodu ich wartości rynkowej, ale poszukując rozwijających się japońskich artystów i wspomagając ich ewoluujące kariery.

Muzeum otworzyli w swoim domu, nazywając go Muzeum Sztuki Sudoh, dzieląc swój entuzjazm z zainteresowaną publicznością, dając możliwość wchłaniania nowej sztuki japońskiej i wspomagając promocję nowych artystów. Współorganizowali i koordynowali wiele społecznych projektów takich jak, „Artists in Residence Symposium” (Sympozjum artystów lokalnych), „Art Project for Tsunami victims of the Japan Great Earthquake 2011” (Projekt artystyczny dla ofiar Tsunami Wielkiego Trzęsienia Ziemi w Japoni, 2011) i innych. Kontynuują wspieranie roli sztuki współczesnej w społeczeństwie japońskim.

Ichiro I Noriko zawsze mówili w ten sposób: „Nasze życie zostało zmienione przez spotkanie ze sztuką. Dlatego chcemy, żeby artyści byli świadomi siły sztuki. Ona może zmienić ludzkie życie. Chcemy także, żeby artyści byli zdeterminowani i żeby czuli odpowiedzialność podczas tworzenia dzieł sztuki”. „Życie artystów samo w sobie musi być dziełem sztuki.” „Nie należy celować w schludną i umiejętną pracę. Ważne jest, aby tworzyć dzieła, które przekazują postawy życiowe artystów, nawet jeżeli są one niedoskonałe.”

Mają oni nadzieję, że artyści będą tworzyć prace sięgające do ludzkich serc, a nie tylko będą produkować prace na komercyjnych zasadach wykorzystując powierzchowny porządek. Stypendia wszystkich sześciu artystów na tej wystawie zostały przyznane na 10 lat i więcej. Siła i trwałość takich związków jest spowodowana szacunkiem jakim artyści darzą państwo Sudoh i ich etos, „biorąc odpowiedzialność za tworzenie dzieł sztuki” i że „ich życia są same w sobie dziełami sztuki”, i że „tworzą dzieła, które przekazują postawy życiowe”. Reprezentują wielki humanizm i są pełni empatii i zdolni wczuć się w sposób myślenia innych ludzi.

Die Außenseite der Innenwelt Über die Kunst von Dominik Schmitt „Nirgendwann“. So lautet der Titel einer Publikation über Dominik Schmitt, die im März 2017 im renommierten deutschen Kunstverlag Kerber (Bielefeld/Berlin) erschienen ist und seither für viel Aufsehen in der Kunstwelt sorgt. „Nirgendwann“ ist ein Kunstwort, zusammengesetzt aus nirgendwo und irgendwann. Es spielt auf einen phantastischen, einen überzeitlichen Ort an, eine Art Zwischenbereich, dem die Wesen in Schmitts Bildwelten zugehörig scheinen. In diesen Zeit und Raum entrückten Bildwelten lösen sich die Grenzen zwischen Wirklichkeit und Fiktion auf.

Dominik Schmitt hat an der Universität in Landau das Studium der Biologie und der Kunst abgeschlossen. Er ist nicht nur als Maler und Zeichner hervorgetreten, sondern auch mit filmischen Arbeiten, Plastiken, Installationen, Musik und Lyrik. Für sein junges Alter ist die Liste der Ausstellungen und Auszeichnungen beeindruckend.

Schmitts Bilder werden von Tieren, Menschen und Mischwesen aus Tier und Mensch bevölkert, deren Körper häufig wie aufgeschnitten sind, so dass der Betrachter hineinschauen kann. Die oft bis an die Ränder dicht mit Motiven gefüllten Bilder werden von einem dunklen Kolorit beherrscht, wobei sich in jüngster Zeit die Palette etwas aufhellt. Düster bzw. melancholisch erscheinen häufig auch die dargestellten Szenen, die aber auch eine ironisch-witzige Seite aufweisen. Das großformatige Werk, „mein begräbnis in landau“ zum Beispiel. Es zitiert in Titel und Komposition Gustave Courbets berühmtes Bild „Ein Begräbnis in Ornans“ sowie El Grecos Gemälde „Begräbnis des Grafen von Orgaz“. Lehrende des Kunstinstituts in Landau, nämlich Günther Berlejung und der Autor dieses Textes, legen den Leichnam Schmitts ins Grab. Deutlich ist die Anlehnung an Darstellungen der Grablegung Christi, die durch den (buntfarbigen) Nimbus um das Haupt des Künstlers unterstrichen wird. Um die Dreiergruppe herum steht eine Vielzahl von Personen. Es handelt sich um Porträts von Familienangehörigen (der Bruder Schmitts hält dessen Herz in Händen), Freunden, weiteren Lehrenden, Sammlern und Galeristen sowie von Künstlern, die Schmitt bewundert: El Greco, Gustave Courbet, Jonathan Meese. Anlehnungen an christliche Ikonografie, insbesondere die Passion Christi, finden sich des Öfteren in Dominik Schmitts Bildwelten, ebenso sexuelle Andeutungen.

Einen genauen Plan vom fertigen Bild hat Schmitt nicht, bevor er ans Werk geht, eher eine vage Grundidee. So gibt es auch keine Vor- oder Unterzeichnungen. Vielmehr entwickelt sich die Komposition intuitiv im Schaffensprozess. Zuerst wird die Leinwand. komplett mit Papier abgeklebt. Dann kommt eine Schicht Tapetenkleister darüber. Die weitere Bearbeitung erfolgt mit Wasser und dunklen Acrylfarben. Ölfarbe, diverse Stifte und Kreiden und mit Hilfe von Schablonen gesprühte Partien kommen in späteren Stadien dazu. Die Figuren ergeben sich aus der malerischen Struktur, also ebenfalls aus dem Prozess heraus. Dabei verwendet Schmitt Fotografien, er malt diese aber nie ab, sondern transformiert sie entsprechend seinen Vorstellungen. Dann werden auch Texte integriert, handschriftlich, gesprüht, gedruckt oder collagiert. Ein neueres Element ist die Verwendung von alten Tapetenstücken, so etwa in „Schweigeminute“.

Dominik Schmitt hat in den letzten Jahren einen unverkennbaren individuellen Stil und eine ganz eigene Bildsprache entwickelt, in der gegenständliche Bildmotive, Symbole und Schriftzeichen eine einzigartige Symbiose eingehen. Seine Inspirationen bezieht er vor allem aus der Kunstgeschichte. Einem gängigen Stilbegriff lässt sich seine Kunst nicht zuordnen. Schmitts Kunst gründet auf einer intensiven Innenschau, einer Beschäftigung mit sich selbst, aber ebenso mit seiner Umgebung. Seine Werke reflektieren (häufig unter Einbeziehung seines eigenen Körpers) seine persönlichen Befindlichkeiten, Stimmungen und Gefühle. „Jedes Bild ist im Grunde ein Selbstporträt, ein Psychogramm meiner selbst“, so der Künstler, der auf Authentizität in der Kunst großen Wert legt. Bisweilen muten Dominik Schmitts Bilder dem Betrachter viel zu. Genau dies macht ihren Reiz aus.

”Nirgendwann” – ”Once”. This is the title of the publication dedicated to Dominik Schmitt, which appeared in March, 2017 in a renowned German artistic publishing house Kerber (Bielefeld/Berlin), and since the moment of its publication it has been in the centre of attention of the world of the art. “Nirdendwann” is an artificial word formed from the words “nidgendwo”/”never” and “irgendwann”/”once”. This alludes to a fantastic and universal world, a kind of interspace to which the beings from Schmitt’s paintings seem to belong. In the remote time-spaces of his painting worlds, the borders between reality and fiction disappear.

Tak brzmi tytuł publikacji poświęconej Dominikowi Schmittowi, która ukazała się w marcu 2017 roku w renomowanym niemieckim wydawnictwie artystycznym Kerber (Bielefeld/Berlin) i od momentu publikacji wywołuje żywe zainteresowanie w świecie sztuki. „Nirgendwann“ to sztuczny wyraz, utworzony ze słów „nirgendwo”/„nigdzie” i „irgendwann”/ „kiedyś”. To aluzja do fantastycznego i uniwersalnego miejsca, rodzaju międzyprzestrzeni, do której zdają się należeć istoty z obrazów Schmitta. W odległych czaso-przesrzeniach jego malarskich światów zatracają się granice między rzeczywistością i fikcją.

Dominik Schmitt graduated from Landau University in the fields of biology and arts. He is not only a painter and illustrator, but he also presented his film works, sculptures, installations, music and lyrics. The list of his individual exhibitions and awards is very impressive considering the young age of the artist.

Dominik Schmitt ukończył na Uniwersytecie w Landau studia na kierunkach biologia i sztuka. Zaistniał nie tylko jako malarz i rysownik, przedstawił także swe prace filmowe, rzeźby, instalacje, muzykę i lirykę. Lista wystaw i nagród jest jak na młody wiek artysty imponująca.

The images of animals, people and beings being the hybrids of people and animals whose bodies are often dissected in such a way that a viewer can look into their interiors. The dominant colours of these paintings, densely-filled in with the motifs, are dark, though in the last period the colour palette is a bit brighter. Hence, the scenes presented in the pictures seem to be dark or melancholic often revealing their ironic and humoristic side. It is so, for example, in the case of a large format painting “my burial in landau” (written in a small letter). In its title and composition, there are cited famous paintings of Gustav Courbet, “A Burial at Ornans“ and El Greco, “The Burial of the Count of Orgaz”. Here are the Faculty tutors of the Arts Institute in Landau, Günther Berlejung and the author of this text, who put Schmitt’s body into the grave. There is a clear reference to the representations of the scenes of entombing Jesus Christ, which is accentuated by a (coloured) aureole around the artist’s head. There many other figures standing around this three-peoplegroup. These are the portraits of family members (Schmitt’s brother keeps his heart in his hands), friends, other Faculty members, collectors, gallery owners and the artists Schmitt admires, El Greco, Gustav Courbet, Jonathan Meese. In the painting worlds of Dominik Schmitt, one can find the references to Christian icongraphy, especially to the Passion of Christ, but also some sexual overtones.

Obrazy Schmitta zapełniają zwierzęta, ludzie i istoty będące hybrydami ludzi i zwierząt, których ciała są często rozcięte w taki sposób, że obserwator może spojrzeć do ich wnętrza. Dominującą kolorystyką tych obrazów, wypełnionych gęsto aż po same ramy motywami, są barwy ciemne, choć w ostatnim okresie paleta kolorów jest nieco jaśniejsza. Stąd mroczne względnie melancholijne mogą się wydać przedstawione na obrazach sceny, które często ujawniają także swą stronę ironiczno-humorystyczną. Tak jest na przykład w przypadku wielkoformatowego obrazu „mój pogrzeb w landau“ (pisownia małą literą). W tytule i kompozycji zacytowany został słynny obraz Gustava Courbets‘a „Pogrzeb w Ornans“ oraz płótno El Greca „Pogrzeb hrabiego Orgaza“. Oto wykładowcy Instututu Plastyki w Landau, mianowicie Günther Berlejung i autor tego tekstu, składają ciało Schmitta do grobu. Wyraźne jest nawiązanie do przedstawień sceny składania Chrystusa do grobu, co podkreślone jest przez (kolorową) aureolę wokół głowy artysty. Dokoła tej trzyosobowej grupy stoi bardzo wiele osób. Chodzi tu o portrety członków rodziny (brat Schmitta trzyma w rękach jego serce), przyjaciół, innych wykładowców, kolekcjonerów i właścicieli galerii oraz o artystów, których Schmitt podziwia: to El Greco, Gustave Courbet, Jonathan Meese. W malarskich światach Dominika Schmitta często odnajdujemy nawiązania do ikonografii chrześcijańskiej, szczególnie do męki Pańskiej, tak jak i podteksty sexualne.

While starting the work on his painting Schmitt does not have an overall plan of the whole, but rather a vague general idea. Hence, he does not do any sketches before or in the course of work. The composition is created intuitively during the creative process. Firstly, the stretcher is completely sealed with paper, and this layer is then covered with the wallpaper glue. For further processing the artist uses water and dark acrylic and oil paints, assorted pencils and chalk, and in the subsequent stages, some templates are used through which the colour is sprinkled onto the painting. The figures emerge from the painting structure, and so, also from the very process.

Schmitt uses photographs, however, he never repaints them, but only makes some transformations due to his concepts. Then, he also introduces texts into the world of the painting, handwritten, sprinkled, printed, or in the form of a collage. The latest element is the application of old pieces of wallpaper like in his canvas “Schweigeminute“ [A Minute of Silence].

Przystępując do pracy nad obrazem, Schmitt nie ma dokładnego planu całości, raczej pewną mglistą ogólną ideę. Stąd też nie robi szkiców przed, ani w trakcie pracy. Kompozycja powstaje raczej intuicyjnie w trakcie procesu twórczego. Najpierw podobrazie zostaje całkowicie zaklejone papierem, następnie warstwa ta pokryta zostaje klejem do tapet. Do dalszej obróbki wykorzystuje wodę i ciemne farby akrylowe, farby olejne, różne ołówki i kredy, a kolejnych stadiach pracy dochodzi jeszcze wykorzystanie szablonów, przez które kolor pryskany jest na obraz. Figury wyłaniają się ze struktury malarskiej, a więc także z samego procesu. Schmitt używa przy tym fotografii, nigdy ich jednak nie odmalowuje, tylko dokonuje transformacji odpowiednio do swych wyobrażeń. Potem wprowadza do świata obrazu także teksty, pisane ręcznie, napryskane, nadrukowane lub w formie kolażu. Nowszym elementem jest zastosowanie starych fragmentów tapet, jak na przykład w płótnie „Schweigeminute“ [Minuta milczenia].

Undoubtly, Dominik Schmitt has developed in recent years his individual style and his absolutely own language in which the painting motifs, symbols, writing characters enter a unique symbiosis. He finds his inspirations primarily in the history of art. His work cannot be attributed to any of generally applied styles. The art of Schmitt bases on the intense introspection, the look inside oneself, focusing on oneself, but also one’s surroundings. His works are the reflection (often by reference to the body) on one’s own moods, humours and feelings. “Each picture is in fact a self-portrait, my own psychogram”, so says the artist attaching lots of value to the authenticity in art. Dominik Schmitt’s painting place high demands on a viewer. And this is exactly what makes us so fascinated with them.

Niezaprzeczalnie Dominik Schmitt rozwinął w ostatnich latach swój indywidualny styl i całkowicie własny język malarski, w którym motywy malarskie, symbole i znaki pisma wchodzą w wyjątkową symbiozę. Swe inspiracje znajduje przede wszystkim w historii sztuki. Jego twórczość nie da się przyporządkować do żadnego ze stosowanych powszechnie stylów. Sztuka Schmitta bazuje na intensywnej introspekcji, spojrzeniu w głąb siebie, skupieniu na sobie, ale również na otoczeniu. Jego utwory są refleksją (często przez odniesienie do ciała) na temat własnych nastrojów, humorów i uczuć. „Każdy obraz jest w gruncie rzeczy autoportretem, moim własnym psychogramem“, tak artysta, przykładający dużą wagę do autentyzmu w sztuce. Dotychczasowe obrazy Dominika Schmitta stawiają wysokie wymagania wobec obserwatora. I dokładnie to sprawia, że nas fascynują.

A strong voice of Syrian contemporary art – 8 artists representing various techniques and creative perspectives present almost 20 works in Częstochowa, Poland. The exhibition does not have a „Top of” character, but it presents significant contemporary artists working in Styria. Its leading theme is self-awareness and a social context of the work of Styrian artists. The exhibition aims at presenting artistic and cultural achievements of Styrian artists and creating a platform for showing their works outside Austria.

Artistic expression is a primal instinct of a man- our ancestors left lasting marks on the walls of caves already over thousands years ago. What can the first cave paintings tell us? What message do they carry now? The basic message is that art and culture need space – the space for both the creators of the art and for its receivers. That is why I welcome the gesture of my Polish friends who opened their art spaces and made it possible for the artists from Styria to present their works there. May this exhibition be a frame connecting the creators and their countries.

Ein kraftvolles Statement steirischer Gegenwartskunst – 8 KünstlerInnen mit verschiedenen Techniken und Positionen präsentieren fast 20 Werke in Tschenstochau (Częstochowa) in Polen. Die Ausstellung ist kein “Top of“, sondern sie präsentiert wichtige KünstlerInnen der steirischen Gegenwartskunst in der Steiermark. In der Ausstellung geht es um das Selbstverständnis sowie um gesellschaftliche Positionen steirischer KünstlerInnen. Für die Ausstellung war und ist es uns wichtig, die künstlerischen und kulturellen Leistungen steirischer KünstlerInnen aufzuzeigen und ihnen eine Plattform außerhalb von Österreich zu organisieren.

Der künstlerische Ausdruck ist ein Urinstinkt des Menschen – schon vor tausenden Jahren hinterließen unsere Vorfahren eindringliche. Zeichen an Fels- und Höhlenwänden. Aber was sagen uns diese ersten Höhlenmalereien? Welche Botschaft haben sie bis heute? Die grundsätzliche Botschaft ist, dass Kunst und Kultur Raum brauchen – Räume, sowohl für Künstler, als auch für das Kunstpublikum. Deshalb ist es für mich eine große Freude, dass meine Freunde in Polen ihre Kunsträume geöffnet hat und KünstlerInnen aus der Steiermark die Möglichkeit gibt, sich hier zu präsentieren. Möge diese Ausstellung eine Klammer sein, um Länder und Künstler zusammenzuführen.

Wystawa nie ma charakteru “Top of“, ale pokazuje ważnych twórców sztuki współczesnej działających w Styrii. Jej wiodącym tematem jest samoświadomość oraz społeczny kontekst twórczości styryjskich artystów. Celem wystawy jest pokazanie osiągnięć artystycznych i kulturalnych artystów ze Styrii i stworzenie platformy dla prezentacji ich prac poza Austrią.

Ekspresja artystyczna jest pierwotnym instynktem człowieka – już przed tysiącami lat nasi przodkowie pozostawiali trwałe znaki w jaskinach i na ścianach skalnych. Co nam mówią te pierwsze naskalne malowidła jaskiniowe? Jakie przesłanie niosą dzisiaj?

Podstawowe przesłanie jest takie, że sztuka i kultura potrzebują przestrzeni – przestrzeni zarówno dla twórców sztuki jak i dla jej odbiorców. Dlatego z radością przyjmuję gest moich przyjaciół w Polsce, którzy otworzyli swoje przestrzenie sztuki i stworzyli twórcom ze Styrii możliwość zaprezentwania w nich swoich prac. Oby ta wystawa była klamrą, która łączy twórców i ich kraje.

The title of this publication implies certain insights based on the previous exhibitions. This is a collection of the works by the artists boasting of a distinctive acquis and individual style. The exhibition has an international character. Hosting the artists from Europe, Asia and America.

One can say after some years of experience that this is an international forum of fine arts, which can be justified by a cyclic observation of the continued meeting. Many significant European art festivals had been born in this way. Thanks to personal contacts of the artists at the open- air plenaries, symposiums organized at various places in the world – the idea of collective exhibitions has been conceived.

It is thanks to our dear friends that these meetings are gaining their momentum and growing reputation.

The abundance of artistic attitudes, formal contexts, diversity of techniques, explorations in the scope of painting matter, colour- all of these build the interpretative relationships and the aura of the exhibitions. Not only nobody tries to dominate here, but they honestly and truly wish to present their concepts and artistic explorations to the others. The contrasts arising from the artistic attitudes presented by the artists are very significant. The very process of displaying the works of arts is multi-threaded, written into a long time, this is not a one -time event, because in the period between the collective exhibitions, individual artistic shows are held at various places all over the world. This network of understanding and artistic exchange constitutes “a spider web of art recording”, which has its nucleus, as I see it, in Częstochowa, which is a very special place inviting people on many levels of human condition, willing to cooperate and desiring nothing but all the goodness and beauty. These considerations and the search in the ideological, artistic and formal layer are the signs of the times we live in.

The artists are like seismographs – and they should not be taken lightly. The humanistic character of these meetings breeds an exhilarating breath of respect for a human being. While writing these words, I feel honoured that I can collaborate with the eminent artist and admire the beauty of their works, be a witness to their ups, explorations, hardships in overcoming the barriers on their way “TOWARDS THE LIGHT”.

Nazwa tej publikacji implikuje pewne spostrzeżenia na podstawie poprzednich wystaw. Jest to zbiór prac artystów o wyrazistym dorobku i indywidualnej stylistyce. Wystawa ma międzynarodowy charakter. Udział w niej biorą artyści z Europy, Azji i Ameryki. Można po latach powiedzieć, że jest to międzynarodowe forum sztuk pięknych. Uzasadniam to cykliczną obserwacją kontynuowanych spotkań. Tak właśnie rodziły się znaczące festiwale sztuk plastycznych w Europie. Dzięki kontaktom personalnym artystów na plenerach, sympozjach w wielu miejscach na świecie – powstała idea wspólnych wystaw w Częstochowie. Dzięki naszym koleżankom i kolegom te spotkania nabierają rozmachu i renomy.

Bogactwo postaw artystycznych, konteksty formalne, różnorodność technik, poszukiwania w zakresie materii malarskiej, koloru, budują związki interpretacyjne i aurę tych wystaw. Nikt tu nie stara się dominować, jedynie prawdziwie i szczerze pragnie przedstawić swoje myślenie i poszukiwania artystyczne. Bardzo znaczące są kontrasty wynikające z postaw twórczych artystów.

Ten proces wystawienniczy jest wielowątkowy, rozpisany w długim czasie, nie jest to jednorazowe wydarzenie, bowiem pomiędzy okresem zbiorowych wystaw odbywają się indywidualne pokazy artystów w różnych miejscach na świecie. Ta sieć porozumienia i wymiany artystycznej tworzy „pajęczynę zapisu sztuki”, która ma swoje jądro, jak mniemam jest to Częstochowa, która jest miejscem szczególnym – zapraszającym ludzi na wielu płaszczyznach kondycji człowieczej, gotowych do współpracy i cudownego pragnienia dobra i piękna.

Te rozważania i poszukiwania w warstwie ideowo-artystycznej i formalnej są znakami naszego czasu – artyści są jak sejsmografy – i nie należy ich lekceważyć. Humanistyczny charakter tych spotkań jest ożywczym tchnieniem poszanowania człowieka. Pisząc te słowa czuję się zaszczycony, że mogę współpracować ze znaczącymi twórcami i podziwiać piękno ich dzieł, być świadkiem wzlotów, poszukiwań, trudu pokonywania barier w drodze „KU ŚWIATŁU”. Te spotkania – zderzenia postaw twórczych służą temu celowi.

P.S. The artist must “go on strike” against oneself in order to find new sources of inspirations, to bypass the reefs of routine during the creative process. These meetings - the clashes of artistic attitudes serve this purpose.
