Position Summary:
The American School of Bombay (ASB) seeks a collaborative and student-centered Middle School Counselor to join our international community of educators The Counselor designs and delivers a comprehensive, developmental counseling program that promotes students’ social-emotional, academic, and ethical growth The role includes leadership in advisory programming, student support systems, and transitions, fostering a culture of well-being and collaboration among students, staff, and families.
Your Responsibilities at ASB:
Leadership:
● Actively contribute to Middle School Leadership Team, Student Safeguarding Team, and Crisis Response Team conversations and procedures as needed
● Lead professional learning for staff and parent education sessions on adolescent development, well-being, and safeguarding practices
● Support the management of student schedules and communicate with families
● Coordinate and guide Student Success Team processes, including referrals and progress monitoring
● Support student leadership initiatives, ambassador programs, and house activities that promote engagement and belonging.
● Contribute to the updating of the Student Support Services Handbook, ensuring alignment with Board Policy and tiered support structures
● Monitor student progress each trimester and participate in the reporting process
● Participate in whole school, divisional, and Middle School grade-level meetings
● Model professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct in alignment with role-specific requirements
Counseling Program:
● Provide individual and small-group counseling to address students’ social, emotional, academic, and ethical needs
● Deliver Tier 2 interventions and support students in alignment with individual goals and needs
● Collaborate and consult with teachers and parents to identify and address student concerns, conducting observations as appropriate
● Collaborate with external agencies to coordinate specialized support services.

Curriculum and Instruction:
● Collaborate with grade-level teams to design and implement advisory lessons aligned with ASB’s social-emotional learning (SEL) framework
● Lead lessons, assemblies, and initiatives that promote well-being, health, safeguarding, career exploration, and social-emotional growth, including the effective use and management of technology in students’ digital lives..
Managing Transitions:
● Manage transition processes for all students entering and exiting the Middle School
● Oversee transition programs for new and departing students and their families, ensuring smooth academic and social integration
● Coordinate placement, scheduling, and orientation for new students; support admissions and withdrawal processes, including interviews, records review, and recommendation letters.
● Lead and coordinate transition planning and orientation for Grade 6 and Grade 8 students and parents.
● Collaborate with Elementary and High School counselors, teachers, and learning support staff to review student needs and ensure continuity
Student Wellbeing:
● Supervise and engage with students during transitions, breaks, and lunch to maintain a safe, caring, and respectful environment.
● Chaperone students on experiential learning trips, including ASB’s Week Without Walls program, fostering responsibility and connection beyond the classroom
● Lead or support co-curricular activities that enhance student learning and community engagement.
Who We’re Looking For? The ideal candidate will bring:
● A minimum of three years of relevant counseling experience in a K–12 accredited school.
● A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; a Master’s degree preferred.
● Current professional school counselor credential (required).
● Experience with MTSS structures of support.
● Knowledge of current legal and ethical practices in school counseling.
● Understanding of adolescent development and the ability to support students as individual learners.
