The American School of Bombay (ASB) seeks an innovative and collaborative Upper Elementary Teacher to join our international community of educators. The teacher will design inquiry-based learning experiences that extend students’ curiosity, independence, and critical thinking, helping them apply their understanding to authentic, real-world contexts Guided by the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and evidence-based instructional practices, the teacher will foster the academic, social-emotional, and ethical growth of each learner while contributing to a caring, inclusive school community

Your Responsibilities at ASB:

Teaching and Learning:

● Deliver concept-driven, inquiry-based instruction that promotes curiosity, creativity, and agency

● Strengthen students’ reading, writing, and communication skills through evidence-based literacy practices grounded in the Science of Reading.

● Deepen mathematical reasoning and problem-solving through concept-based, application-oriented learning

● Integrate science, social studies, and the arts through interdisciplinary, project-based experiences that connect learning to the real world

● Embed social-emotional learning through IB Learner Profile attributes and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills

● Differentiate instruction and provide tiered supports to meet diverse learning needs.

● Use varied assessments to guide instruction, monitor progress, and inform planning.

● Integrate technology and digital tools purposefully to enhance engagement, reflection, collaboration, and digital literacy

Curriculum and Planning:

● Design and implement authentic learning units aligned with ASB’s PYP framework and grade-level outcomes.

● Collaborate with grade-level and specialist teams to ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment.

● Document and showcase student learning through portfolios, exhibitions, and other authentic assessments.

● Plan meaningful opportunities for students to share and celebrate learning within and beyond the classroom.

Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities:

● Actively engage in continuous professional learning, coaching, and reflection within ASB’s coaching-based culture, modeling professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct

● Collaborate with colleagues to share and refine best practices that enhance student outcomes

● Participate actively in team, divisional, and school-wide meetings to advance ASB’s mission and goals

Learning Environment and Community Engagement:

● Create a welcoming, inclusive, and well-managed classroom that fosters respect, responsibility, and creative risk-taking through positive behavior supports

● Build strong partnerships with families to support student growth and wellbeing through regular communication and collaboration.

● Supervise and engage with students during transitions, lunch, and recess, nurturing social learning beyond the classroom

● Connect classroom learning to Mumbai’s cultural context and opportunities for global citizenship

● Lead or support co-curricular or service-learning activities that extend student learning and leadership

Assessment and Communication:

● Use varied assessments to monitor and document student growth and guide instruction.

● Provide timely, constructive feedback that supports reflection and continuous improvement

● Communicate progress regularly with students and families through conferences, progress reports, and informal updates

Student Wellbeing:

● Supervise and engage with students during transitions, breaks, and lunch to maintain a safe, caring, and respectful environment

● Support students’ social-emotional wellbeing and foster a caring, inclusive environment

● Lead or support co-curricular activities that enhance student learning and community engagement.

Who We’re Looking For? The ideal candidate will bring:

● A Bachelor’s degree in Education and a valid teaching certification from an accredited institution.

● A minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience

● Experience with the IB PYP or inquiry-based learning

● Strong understanding of child development and evidence-based literacy and numeracy practices
