Welcome to ArtsBridge Foundation’s 2016-17 Season!

This Season, we have carefully designed our programming to connect with and inspire all ages and academic subjects, while featuring every aspect of the performing arts!

ArtsBridge Foundation, the arts education outreach arm of the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, is dedicated to providing quality performing arts education programs designed to engage, motivate and elevate the next generation of artists and arts supporters.

In collaboration with leading regional and national arts organizations, ArtsBridge has paved the way for more than 300,000 students and educators from 49 Georgia counties to experience and benefit from the positive power of the arts. ArtsBridge consists of four main programs: Field Trips, Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards – The Shuler Awards, Master Classes and the Family Performance Series.

Field Trip Guidelines TICKETS

• Field trip performance tickets are $10 for students and adults. Tax may be applicable to the ticket price.

• One complimentary ticket will be issued for every 15 tickets purchased and can be used for teachers and chaperones.

• All attendees need a ticket for admission.

• Your confirmation will be emailed to you before the performance. This serves as your ticket(s) and must be brought to the performance.

• Reservations may be canceled no later than three weeks prior to the performance date. If your reservation has not been canceled three weeks prior to your reserved performance, you will be held liable for amount due.

• ArtsBridge programs are age specific and children under the age of three will not be admitted. All attendees must have a ticket for admission.

THEATRE ETIQUETTE • Doors will open approximately one hour prior to show time.

• We recommend you arrive 45 minutes prior to the performance.

• Lunch areas are not provided at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre during ArtsBridge performances.

• Seats are assigned on a first come, first served basis and are general admission. We do our best to seat groups together.

Groups and/or individuals wishing to be seated together must arrive together. We do not hold seats.

• All ArtsBridge performances are approximately one hour in length.

PARKING • After dropping the students off near the front doors, school buses will be directed to park in the flat lot across from the theatre entrance.

• All other vehicles including cars, SUVS, vans, etc. will be directed to the parking deck adjacent to the theatre which is a $6 per vehicle charge.

Field Trips Dance Theatre of Harlem Friday, October 21, 2016 | 11:00 am Grades 3 – 12 | $10 per Ticket An informal presentation on the art and science of classical dancing, a lecture/demonstration is a fun and accessible introduction to ballet. Specific exercises that develop jumping, turning, partnering, lifting and dancing on pointe are demonstrated and explained. An audience participation segment in which members of the audience are invited to the stage to try some of the movements, or test the similarities between social dance and ballet, is included. Throughout, excerpts from Dance Theatre of Harlem’s eclectic repertoire demonstrate how the elements that have been discussed come together to create the magic of dance.

Have it accompanied by amazing vocals, creative choreography, high energy live music and unforgettable audience interaction and you will have enjoyed the journey of a life-time. This is Artrageous. Giant artworks jump to life with amazing speed unveiling larger than life icons and masterpieces in just moments, all the while there is constant activity on stage, attracting your attention and delighting your senses with energy, spirit and action.

Doktor Kaboom Thursday, January 26, 2017 | 10:15am & Noon Grades 4 – 8 | $10 Per Ticket Creatively blending theatre arts with the wonders of scientific exploration, Doktor Kaboom! keeps his crowds riveted with interest and rolling with laughter. Join Kaboom! for a sidesplitting journey of increasingly spectacular science experiments designed to involve, excite, educate and entertain. This newest show explores the nature of electricity. Doktor Kaboom explains everything from voltage and current, to charges, conservation of energy and plasma.

Atlanta Ballet Fellowship Ensemble Thursday, February 9, 2017 | 11:00am Grades K – 6 | $10 Per Ticket Atlanta Ballet Fellowship Ensemble will bring you an exciting one-hour family ballet to be announced soon! This one-hour version of a classic fairytale is designed especially for younger audiences, but can be enjoyed by all. Recommended for grades K-6. The ArtsBridge performance is designed specifically for school and community groups of 20 or more people.

Teachers receive educational materials prior to the performance describing the components of the production once payment is received. The study guide meets Georgia Performance Standards.

Thursday, March 30, 2017 | 11:00am Grades 6 – 12 | $10 Per Ticket In this modern production set during the golden age of Hollywood, Don Pasquale is an aging silent film star at the sunset of his career. Our protagonist sets off to find a wife and heir to his fortune. He gets hitched to the cunning Norina, a widowed gold digger who conspires with Ernesto, the Don’s nephew. Supported by a chorus of servants dressed as 1950’s Hollywood film stars, Don Pasquale is a hilarious opera full of nostalgic glamor and lively humor.

Director’s Bootcamp June 7 – 9, 2016 | $50 Registration Fee K-12 Fine Arts Educators are invited to attend ArtsBridge’s inaugural DIRECTOR’S BOOTCAMP at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre where educators will learn new tips and tricks for their musical theatre productions! This three-day Bootcamp, led by professionals in the business including Shuler Hensley and members of the Shuler Awards Production Team, will include the following Workshops: “Set Design on a Budget”, “Script Analysis and Character Development”, “Learning Your Sound Board”, “Maximizing Lights with Limitations” and “Costume & Make-Up Design 101”.

Performing & Visual Arts College Fair College-bound students are invited to meet with admission representatives from over 100 colleges, universities and conservatories specializing in music, dance, theater, visual arts, graphic design and other related disciplines to learn more about audition/ entrance requirements and financial aid.

Celebrating Excellence in High School Musical Theatre Fashioned after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards – Shuler Hensley Awards celebrate excellence in high school musical theatre. The Awards are named in honor of actor/singer and Georgia native, Shuler Hensley, winner of the prestigious Tony Award, Outer Critics Circle Award and Drama Desk Award. The program embodies a spirit of camaraderie and celebration for the arts and provides a unique professional learning experience for high school musical theatre students and teachers across Georgia.

Shuler Awards on

April 20, 2017

at Cobb Energy Centre!

How it Works A panel of adjudicators will attend participating school performances during October – March to evaluate each production. Each school will receive feedback from the adjudicators that attended the production and will be invited to attend The Shuler Awards Show at Atlanta’s world-class Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

Nominations are announced in early April and the program culminates with an Awards Show to recognize excellence in 17 categories including Overall Production, Direction, Choreography, Leading Actor/ Actress, Costumes and many more!

Participating schools have access to unique opportunities through the Shuler Awards program!

Each school may send two students to participate in the Shuler Ensemble, which opens and closes the Awards Show and one technical theatre student to participate in the S.T.A.R. Council (Students Take A Role), who serve as production assistants backstage during the Awards.

Students are also eligible to apply for Scholarships, which are presented the night of the Awards.

The recipients of the Leading Actor and Actress Awards, are sent to New York to compete in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards – The Jimmy Nederlander Awards where they have the chance to win college scholarship opportunities and the coveted National Award.

PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM The Shuler Awards registration begins on August 3 and schools are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Eligible schools must adhere to the following: • Musical productions must take place between October 7, 2016 and March 19, 2017.

• Must attend a Director Orientation on Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 10:00am – 12:00pm.

• To be adjudicated, a musical production qualifies if it is a full-length musical listed on the 2017 National High School Musical Theatre Awards Qualifying Roles.
