ArtsBridge Foundation, the arts education outreach arm of Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, is dedicated to providing quality performing arts education and community engagement programs designed to foster K-12 students as the next generation of artists and art supporters. This season we have carefully designed our programming to connect with and inspire all ages while featuring unique aspects of the performing arts! ArtsBridge programming consists of four main programs.

Field Trips Built in collaboration with leading national arts organizations, field trips to Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre expose students to high-quality, educational performances that connect to Georgia Standards of Excellence. ArtsBridge increases accessibility by offering need-based financial aid assistance covering the cost of admission and/or transportation.

Professional Development Our programs focus on skill and talent development for both students and educators in the performing arts. These training opportunities include classes led by touring Broadway cast members and Atlanta arts professionals.

Family Programming These fun and engaging performances provide families the opportunity to introduce young audiences to the performing arts through shows they may already know and love! Perfect for all ages, from the young to the young at heart.

Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards Patterned after Broadway’s Tony Awards®, the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards – Shuler Hensley Awards program celebrates excellence in high school musical theatre and involves over 10,000 students, educators, and theatre professionals in a competitive season that culminates in a live, televised awards show. Winner of the 2018 and 2019 Southeast Emmy® Award for “Special Event Live Coverage.”

Field Trip Guidelines TICKETS & RESERVATIONS • Field trip performance tickets are $10 for students and adults.

• One complimentary ticket will be issued for every 15 tickets purchased and can be used for teachers and chaperones.

• All attendees need a ticket for admission.

• ArtsBridge programs are age specific per the recommendations listed with each show.

• A nonrefundable 50% deposit is due 30 days after reservation with balance due four weeks prior to field trip date. Invoices will be provided.

• Confirmation will be emailed before the performance and this will serve as your group’s ticket. We do not print individual tickets.

• Reservations may be cancelled no later than four weeks prior to the performance date, after which you will be held liable for amount due.

• When reserving, a credit card must be put on file to hold your tickets. This credit card will only be charged in the event you do not inform ArtsBridge you will not be able to attend within 48 hours of the show.

• We recommend arriving 30 – 45 minutes prior to the performance.

• Seats are assigned on a first come, first served basis and are general admission. We do our best to seat groups together; however, groups and/ or individuals wishing to be seated together must arrive together. We do not hold seats.

• ArtsBridge staff will provide a curtain call to review theatre etiquette.

• All ArtsBridge performances are approximately one hour in length.

• Lunch areas are not provided at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre during ArtsBridge performances. No food or drink is permitted in the theatre.

• All backpacks and lunchboxes must be left on buses or in vehicles.

PARKING • After dropping the students off near the front doors, school buses will be directed to park in the surface lot across from the theatre entrance.

FIELD TRIPS

The Science of Magic

Wednesday, October 23, 2019 | 10:15am & Noon Grades 1 - 6 | $10 per Ticket For centuries magicians have used scientific principles to make people levitate in mid-air and vanish in the blink of an eye.

Illusionist Bill Blagg’s one-of-a-kind educational experience, The Science of Magic, takes students on a rare, never-beforeseen journey “behind the scenes” of the magic world. Students will discover firsthand how magicians use science to create their illusions!

Bill’s comedy-filled, action-packed, presentation is highly interactive and makes science fun and exciting! Students will use the Scientific Method to levitate one of their teachers in mid-air and even learn how the science of reflection can make their homework magically disappear! In addition, Bill even performs some of his mind-blowing, grand-scale illusions with a scientific twist! Bill caps the show off with an incredible display of the water cycle by making it snow from his bare hands! Students will watch in amazement as science creates magic right before their very eyes!

The Science of Magic is designed to excite, educate, intrigue and promote students to think “outside the box” and spawn their curiosity about how science and the Scientific Method are used by magicians to create the impossible!

Peter Rabbit Tales Thursday, October 24, 2019 | 10:15am & Noon Grades Pre-K - 4 | $10 per Ticket Meet Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny, Beatrix Potter’s beloved characters, as they escape from Mr. McGregor, outfox Mr. Tod and rescue the Flopsy Bunnies from the disagreeable badger, Tommy Brock. When Benjamin’s children disappear, he goes to his cousin, Peter Rabbit, to help him find the bunnies.

But Peter thinks he’s had quite enough of adventure, remembering his youthful escapades in Mr. McGregor’s garden. As the cousins reminisce about their past adventures, their friends – Squirrel Nutkin, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, Jemima Puddle-duck and Mrs. Tittlemouse – gather to encourage Peter on this one last quest. La Cenerentola

Presented by The Atlanta Opera

Friday, November 1, 2019 | 10:30am to 1pm Grades 6 - 12 | Free Join The Atlanta Opera for a special FREE field trip presentation of Rossini’s charming take on the Cinderella story.

In La Cenerentola, the good-hearted Cinderella casts off the helpless damsel-in-distress persona to hold the original Mean Girls at bay. She’s not afraid to pursue her beloved (who she thinks is the Prince’s valet), only she’s finding that nothing at the royal palace is what it seems to be. A partnership with ArtsBridge Foundation, the full-length opera will be performed onstage with sets, costumes, and orchestra at Cobb Energy Centre.

Mathemagic!

Thursday, November 21, 2019 | 10:15am & Noon Grades K - 8 | $10 per Ticket Internationally acclaimed magician and educator, Bradley Fields, captivates students with his famous magic illusions, and turns them on to the history, the power, and the beauty of the language of Math!

MatheMagic!® is a never-to-be-forgotten stage experience for school audiences, K-8. The show promotes math-skills and problem-solving through visuals, history, language and world-class entertainment. For over 20 years, teachers, math specialists and educators have given it their highest accolades. With large multimedia projections, stage illusions, comedy, drama, and audience interaction, MatheMagic!® plays with great success to audiences of up to 2,000.

Kids travel back to ancient times to meet Imhotep the Magician, (whose secret was really math), Zeno (whose paradoxes inspired Newton) and, of course, Pythagoras and his famous theorem. By integrating math concepts with vocabulary, geography, history, and everyday problem-solving, students of different interests, abilities and learning styles are able relate to math in new ways. Kids leave the theatre enthralled, with a renewed sense of wonder, and the enthusiasm to discover the Magic of Math!

Like the award-winning television show, The Henry Ford’s INNOVATION NATION – LIVE! will inspire audiences with entertaining and educational stories about yesterday and today’s visionaries and innovators – highlighting major turning points in the past and present that influenced the fields of science, technology, engineering, math, the environment and social justice.

The Swan Princess Presented by ATLANTA BALLET 2

Thursday, February 13, 2020 | 11am Grades K - 6 | $10 per Ticket This world premiere production of The Swan Princess features all of the mystery and magic of the beloved classic Swan Lake, but fits the treasured story into a one-hour format for children that serves as a perfect introduction to ballet. Will Prince Siegfried be able to save Odette, the beautiful swan princess, from the reaches of the wicked Von Rothbart? Our one-hour family ballet may be designed for our youngest audience members, ages 12 and under, but this dazzling production can be enjoyed by children and adults alike.

ArtsKSU Revue

Presented by Kennesaw State University’s College of the Arts

Wednesday, March 13, 2020 | 11am Grades 6 - 12 | $1 per Ticket Formerly Synergy ArtsKSU Revue is a multidisciplinary program featuring dance, music, theater, and the visual arts in an engaging live performance. One of the only programs of its kind in the Atlanta area, this revue from the College of the Arts at Kennesaw State University will give students a comprehensive experience of four art disciplines in synergy. Packed with energy, virtuosity and dynamic repertory, ArtsKSU Revue is best suitable for grades 6-12.

Snack Pack Program ArtsBridge has partnered with Action Ministries to ensure no student who attends our field trips goes hungry. The Snack Pack Program was introduced in the fall of 2018, and provided 10,500 students food following our field trips during the 2018-2019 season. In our 2019-2020 season, we will provide each student who attends an 11am or 12pm field trip with a snack pack to take home.

“ The performance was one of the best I have seen. From start to finish, the kids were actively engaged and sitting on the edge of their seats. The kids enjoyed the performers and artists interacting with them and allowing them to get up and dance. It was age appropriate and the adults enjoyed it as well.�

HOPE Jingle Contest ArtsBridge has partnered with Georgia Lottery to provide five high school musical theatre programs $11,000 in scholarships. All Georgia high schools are invited to participate in the contest by submitting a video with an original score to a song provided by ArtsBridge. Out of all applicants, the top 10 candidates are chosen, and then voted on by their community and a panel of judges. The top five programs are awarded scholarship money for their program.

Behind-the-Scenes Tours School days dependent on availability Maximum 30 students per tour | $5 per Ticket Explore the magic behind the scenes of the world-class, state-of-the-art Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Discover the lighting and sound booths, orchestra pit, fly system, loading dock, scenery shop and much more. Tours last approximately one hour, and dates are contingent upon theatre and technical staff availability.

Time: 10am - 5pm All fine arts educators and community theatre directors are invited to attend ArtsBridge Foundation’s Director’s Bootcamp at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre where participants will learn new tips and tricks for musical theatre productions! This three-day bootcamp, led by industry professionals including members of the Shuler Awards Production Team, will give directors of all experience levels a baseline knowledge as well as creative tips for producing a successful musical theatre show with limited resources. Past workshop topics have included lighting design, audio, set design, choreography, makeup design, music direction, and more!

MUSIC THEATRE INTENSIVE JUNE 16 - 18, 2020 | $300 REGISTRATION FEE Time: 9am - 4pm | Grades 9 - 12 Do you love musical theatre? Want to hone your skills in acting, singing, dancing and more?

The ArtsBridge Music Theatre Intensive gives high school students the opportunity to work with theatre professionals in a concentrated workshop environment, provides experiential skills both on and off the stage, and culminates in a final, student-produced showcase.

This performance-based intensive is comprised of Acting the Song, Dance Technique, Ensemble Work, Audition Preparation, and Business Skills sessions, will culminate with a student-led showcase performance of student work.

Featuring an original story and score, dazzling sets and costumes, and wondrous moments that make even the most cynical believe, this momentous celebration of the season leaves spirits high and captivates all with the splendor of Christmas.

Hip Hop Nutcracker Thursday, November 28, 2019 | 7:30pm A holiday mash-up for the whole family, The Hip Hop Nutcracker re-imagines Tchaikovsky’s classic score through explosive hip hop choreography.

A dozen all-star dancers, on-stage DJ and an electric violinist bring the traditional Nutcracker story to life in contemporary New York City. This evening-length show celebrates love, community and the magic of the holiday season.

Participating in the Program The Shuler Awards registration begins on August 2nd, 2019 with 75 schools accepted on a first come, first served basis. Eligible schools must adhere to the following: • All Participating Schools must pay a nonrefundable program fee of $200.

• High School must be located in the state of Georgia with an accredited theatre program.

• Musical productions must take place between October 4th, 2019 and March 15th, 2020.

• Director must attend an orientation on September 3, 2019.

• To be adjudicated, a musical production qualifies if it is a full-length musical listed on the National High School Musical Theatre Awards Qualifying Roles.

Shuler Awards on

April 16, 2020

How it Works

at Cobb Energy Centre!

A panel of adjudicators will attend participating school performances during October – March to evaluate each production. Each school will receive feedback from the adjudicators that attended the production and will be invited to attend The Shuler Awards Show at Atlanta’s world-class Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

Nominations are announced in early April and the program culminates with an Awards Show to recognize excellence in 17 categories including Overall Production, Direction, Choreography, Leading Actor/Actress, Costumes, and many more!

Participating schools have access to unique opportunities through the Shuler Awards program!

Each school may send two students to participate in the Shuler Ensemble, which opens and closes the Awards Show, and apply to have one technical theatre student participate in the S.T.A.R. Council (Students Take A Role), who serve as production assistants backstage during the Awards. Students are also eligible to apply for scholarships, which are announced with nominated schools on air.

The recipients of the Leading Actor and Actress Awards are sent to New York to compete in the The National High School Musical Theatre Awards® (the Jimmy Awards®) where they have college scholarship opportunities and the chance to win the coveted National Award.
