Welcome to ArtsBridge Foundation’s 2015 – 2016 Season!

I am absolutely thrilled to share our upcoming programming as this season has been carefully designed to connect with all ages and academic subjects, while featuring every aspect of the performing arts! ArtsBridge Foundation, the arts education outreach arm of the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, is dedicated to providing quality performing arts education programs designed to engage, motivate and elevate the next generation of artists and arts supporters.

In collaboration with leading regional and national arts organizations, ArtsBridge has paved the way for more than 280,000 students and educators to experience and benefit from the positive power of the arts. ArtsBridge, today, consists of four main programs: Field Trips, Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards – The Shuler Awards, Master Classes and our brand new Family Series Performances.

Field Trip Guidelines TICKETS • Field trip performance tickets range from $9 – $10 for students and adults.

• One complimentary ticket will be issued for every 15 tickets purchased and can be used for teachers and chaperones.

• All attendees need a ticket for admission.

• Your confirmation will be emailed to you before the performance. This serves as your ticket(s) and must be brought to the performance.

Field Trips The Atlanta Opera’s La bohème Monday, October 5, 2015 11:00 am | Grades 6 – 12 $10 per Ticket This special abbreviated version of Puccini’s masterpiece tells the story of a group of young bohemians living in the Latin Quarter of Paris in the 1840s. Sung in Italian with English supertitles, this timeless story reconnects us with the youthful feelings of passion, love and loss. The performance features mainstage artists, the Atlanta Opera Orchestra and Chorus. This performance is an excellent way to introduce students to the size, scope, and grandness of a fully staged opera.

Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school… again. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life.

Zeus’ master lightning bolt has been stolen and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy has ten days to find and return Zeus’ stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief. Adapted from the book by Rick Riordan.

Feet Don’t Fail Me Now Tuesday, November 17, 2015 11:00am | Grades K – 12 $9 Per Ticket Home grown hoofers from Minneapolis hit the road with a trunk full of tap shoes, funky costumes and a big brass band, ready to burst onto the stage with this high energy show! In this joyous parade of genre-hopping music and hard-hitting percussive dance, you’ll be jumping out of your seat and dancing to the beat! This show integrates an inventive style of rapid-fire tap with a variety of musical genres to present a wildly creative view into the power of the human spirit.

ArcAttack Thursday, November 19, 2015 10:15am & Noon | Grades K – 12 $9 Per Ticket ArcAttack uses high tech wizardry to generate a truly ‘electrifying’ performance. Live instruments meet drum loops and samples to produce rock, electronica and indie with a splash of punk. The MC engages both the crowd and the Tesla Coils by walking through ½ Million Volt sparks wearing the relatively thin layer of his chain mail Faraday suit. This high power performance is unique in its elements and energy as well as mesmerizing and energetically thrilling.

Join Kaboom! for a sidesplitting journey of increasingly spectacular science experiments designed to involve, excite, educate, and entertain. This newest show explores the nature of electricity. Behind-the-Scenes ArtsBridge offers additional classes focusing on behind-the-scenes experiences for students and teachers to gain a closer look at the magic of the arts. These experiences include access to dress rehearsals by the Atlanta Ballet and The Atlanta Opera, opportunities to observe load-in or load-out with your technical theatre class, Q&A sessions with artists and artists in the classroom. Backstage Tours Explore the magic behind the scenes of the world-class, state-of-the-art John A. Williams Theatre at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Discover the lighting and sound booths, orchestra pit, fly system, loading dock, scenery shop and much more.

Tours last approximately 1 hour and are available between: Monday – Friday 10:00am – 4:00pm $5.00 per person 30 students at a time

Financial Aid ArtsBridge provides admission and transportation financial aid to students and schools in need for our arts education field trips. Financial Aid is granted based on individual need and available funds are provided on a first come, first served basis. It is our goal to serve as many students as possible; however, resources are limited so apply today at ArtsBridgeGA.org!

ArtsBridge has created a new program called Adopt A School, where corporations and individuals can provide ticket admission and bus transportation for students and schools in need! Title 1 schools with limited arts education programming qualify for this program. Each Adopt A School partnership is tailored to match the specific needs of each school. Our goal is to give every student access to the arts so they can experience ArtsBridge Foundation’s high quality, educational field trip performances!

PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM The Shuler Awards registration begins on July 20th and schools are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Eligible schools must adhere to the following: • High School must be located in the state of Georgia.

• Musical productions must take place between October 1, 2015 and March 20, 2016.

• Must attend Director Orientation on Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 10:00am – 12:00pm at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

• To be adjudicated, a musical production qualifies if it is a full-length musical listed on the 2016 National High School Musical Theatre Awards Qualifying Roles.

CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE IN HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATRE Fashioned after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards – Shuler Hensley Awards celebrate excellence in high school musical theatre.

The Awards are named in honor of actor/singer and Georgia native, Shuler Hensley, winner of the prestigious Tony Award, Outer Critics Circle Award and Drama Desk Award. The program embodies a spirit of camaraderie and celebration for the arts and provides a unique professional learning experience for high school musical theatre students and teachers across Georgia.

How it Works A panel of adjudicators will attend participating school performances during October – March to evaluate each production. Each school will receive feedback from the adjudicators that attended the production and will be invited to attend The Shuler Awards Show at Atlanta’s world-class Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

Nominations are announced in early April and the program culminates with an Awards Show to recognize excellence in 17 categories including Overall Production, Direction, Choreography, Leading Actor/Actress, Costumes and many more!

Participating schools have access to unique opportunities through the Shuler Awards program! Each school may send two students to participate in the Shuler Ensemble, which opens and closes the Awards Show and one technical theatre student to participate in the S.T.A.R. Council (Students Take A Role), who serve as production assistants backstage during the Awards. Students are also eligible to apply for Scholarships, which are presented the night of the Awards.

The recipients of the Leading Actor and Actress Awards, are sent to New York to compete in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards – The Jimmy Nederlander Awards where they have the chance to win college scholarship opportunities and the coveted National Award.
