Meet the Cover Artist: Lianne Alcon

About the Cover Artist

Lianne Alcon, a dynamic artist hailing from Madrid, Spain, brings a vibrant energy to her work, drawing deeply from her cultural roots. With a career spanning over two decades, Alcon's passion for art began at a young age, leading her to study both fine and commercial art. However, her true calling lies in painting with emotion and intention, allowing her brush to flow freely on the canvas. Alcon's works, especially those portraying women, are renowned for capturing the essence of femininity, blending delicacy with powerful, dramatic emotions.

Having recently relocated to Louisville, Kentucky, Alcon continues to evolve, creating art that nourishes her soul and resonates with collectors worldwide. Her insatiable curiosity and love for travel infuse her art with a sense of movement and life, reflecting the diverse experiences she embraces.

Inspiration Behind the Cover Design

The cover art, inspired by a longing for summer to linger a little longer, captures the essence of relaxation and refreshment. The digital medium was chosen to achieve clean, simple lines reminiscent of 1980s pop art, evoking the joy of enjoying bourbon cocktails by the poolside. Through this piece, Alcon invites viewers to savor the vibrant and beautiful moments that summer offers.

FLASHBACK TO

"BARRELS OF HEART"

Louisville's First Bourbon-Barrel

Art Exhibit

In early 2023, Bourbon with Heart hosted "Barrels of Heart" at the Frazier History Museum, showcasing 20 custom-painted bourbon barrels by local artists. These artists, aged 18 to 65, represented diverse backgrounds and experiences, from award-winning professionals to passionate hobbyists, and included artists with diverse abilities.

“Barrels of Heart” - Exhibit Statement

Used, dusty, splintered, and headed for the fire. The life of these barrels was over when we first found them. Yet, through the power of human imagination, community, and generosity, they were given a new life and, in return, gave new life to us. These vessels that once held Kentucky's most iconic spirit have raised awareness, raised funds, and raised our spirits.

As you view these barrels, let them take you on a journey through the heart of Kentucky, the hearts of our artists, and even your own heart. May they serve as a symbol of second chances and redemption, and as proof that even when one’s life is heading for "the fire," it's never too late to transform it into something new and beautiful.

The artists come from all walks of life, perspectives, and experiences, but the one thing they share is their love for Kentucky. Each one has poured their heart into their barrel…their “Barrel of Heart.”

Visitors voted for their favorite barrel, with the winning artist receiving a cash prize and a donation to their chosen charity. This exhibit celebrated the local art community and aimed to make arts experiences accessible to all.

The exhibit raised an impressive $63,000, which Bourbon with Heart then shared with other local nonprofits. This success has inspired other cities to create their own bourbon-barrel art exhibits.

The following pages spotlight the 20 incredible artists who participated in this inaugural event.

Driven by Heart: A Live Art Exhibit Transforming Cars

and Lives

Bourbon with Heart, a 501(c)(3) organization, recently hosted a live car painting exhibit at the Cars in the Commons car show, turning heads and hearts alike. Four talented artists—Jessica Lauren, Isabella Corine, Clay Mata, and Darryl Tucker—were brought together for the first time to create a stunning, cohesive design on a delivery vehicle for Kentucky Straight Ice, the official ice of bourbon. The audience was mesmerized as the plain white vehicle was transformed into a vibrant work of art right before their eyes.

The event wasn’t just about art; it was about impact. The exhibit supported The First Car Project, a Kentucky-based nonprofit dedicated to helping young adults transition from the foster care system to independent living. In a heartwarming moment, two foster kids were awarded cars at the show, providing them with a critical resource for their journey toward independence.

This exhibit perfectly embodies Bourbon with Heart’s mission: leveraging the cultural influence of bourbon to uplift Kentucky’s art community while making a tangible difference in the lives of others. Through this unique blend of art and charity, Bourbon with Heart ensures that the spirit of giving remains at the forefront of every event they host.

Life Safety in the Distillery Industry: A Conversation with

Alan Lewis

In the heart of Kentucky, where bourbon is more than just a spirit but a way of life, ensuring the safety of distilleries is paramount. To delve deeper into this critical aspect, Arts & Spirits Magazine sat down with Alan Lewis, a leading expert in fire protection and the dedicated head of Fire Protection Services, Inc.

A&S: Alan, thank you for joining us. Can you start by telling us why life safety in the distillery industry is so critical?

Alan Lewis: It's my pleasure. Distilleries are particularly vulnerable to fire hazards due to the flammable materials involved in the production process. It's not just about protecting a monetary investment but ensuring the safety and security of the people who work there and the one million-plus visitors who tour distilleries annually. When it comes to fire prevention, 'just enough' is never enough.

A&S: How does Fire Protection Services approach the unique challenges of this industry?

Alan Lewis: We take a proactive mindset. Our approach is comprehensive, using reliable, high-quality, and innovative technology. We don't just install fire suppression and detection systems; we integrate them with the distillery's overall safety strategy. Partnering with distillery safety teams ensures our systems are user-friendly and ready for any situation.

A&S: What specific measures do you take to protect distilleries, especially those in more secluded locations?

Alan Lewis: Distilleries often face unique risks due to their location. Our systems are designed to be effective even when external help is far away. This includes advanced early warning fire detection systems that quickly detect a fire and mass notification systems that notify occupants of an emergency, including external factors like weather and potential active aggressors.

A&S: Can you share a bit about the relationships you build with your clients?

Alan Lewis: Absolutely. Building strong, lasting relationships with our clients is at the core of what we do. We see our clients as active partners and value the trust they place in us. This collaborative approach ensures we not only meet but exceed their safety needs.

A&S: What motivates you and your team to maintain such high standards?

Alan Lewis: Knowing that we're protecting lives is a huge motivator. 'Adequate' doesn’t cut it for us. We always go above and beyond because we understand the stakes. Ensuring the safety of our clients, their properties, and visitors is not just a job; it’s a responsibility we take very seriously.

In the world of bourbon, where tradition meets innovation, Fire Protection Services, Inc., led by Alan Lewis, stands as a pillar of safety and reliability. Their commitment to protecting lives and property ensures that Kentucky's cherished spirit continues to thrive, safely and securely.

Fine Art Fall Showcase

Kentucky's Artful Tribute to Giving Back

Bourbon with Heart is excited to present its second annual exhibit at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival in Bardstown, the Bourbon Capital of the World™. This year, the exhibit features 10 bourbon barrel staves and 10 bourbon barrel heads, each hand-painted by local artists, blending the rich heritage of bourbon with the expressive power of art.

On the following pages, you’ll meet the 20 talented artists behind these unique creations. As you explore their work, take a moment to learn about the inspiration behind each piece. If one catches your eye, be sure to place your bid! Proceeds benefit Bourbon with Heart, Inc., and 20% of the net proceeds will be donated to the Cedar Lake Foundation, which provides compassionate care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. By supporting this exhibit, you’re not only celebrating Kentucky’s vibrant art community but also giving back to those in need. This is Kentucky’s most creative way to give back—where bourbon, art, and community unite for a meaningful cause.
