ourbon with HeART's latest exhibit, "Seasoned Spirits," is more than just an art showcase. It's a jubilant celebration of age, wisdom, and the beauty of the human spirit, reflecting the same refinement that bourbon undergoes over time. The exhibit, currently at the CAMBRiA Hotel Downtown Louisville on historic Whiskey Row, features 50 unique bourbon barrel heads, each hand-painted by local Kentuckiana artists aged 50 and above. The most "seasoned" artist is an astounding 102 years old! "Much like bourbon, we, too, grow better with age. This exhibit serves as a resounding affirmation of that," said Morgan Hancock, executive director of Bourbon with HeART. Through "Seasoned Spirits," the organization shines a positive light on aging, challenging societal perceptions and highlighting the vibrancy and creativity that our latter years can bring. In a time where 10,000 people are turning 65 daily, the exhibit extends its reach to this influential demographic, conveying a powerful message of resilience, talent, and life's potential at any age. Beyond championing age empowerment, Bourbon with HeART also demonstrates its commitment to giving back. A portion of the proceeds from the exhibit will go to the National Parkinson's Institute and USA CARES.

The line-up of talented artists even includes Robert Schack, the 2023 Parkinson's Warrior of the Year. Eric Richardson, President and CEO of the National Parkinson's Institute, lauded the initiative, saying, "Bourbon with Heart is Kentucky's most creative way to give backand we are proud to be a part of it." etired educator-turned-artist Anna is a vibrant addition to Kentucky’s art scene. Inspired by the region’s diverse landscapes, she specializes in Plein Air painting, a passion kindled during her time

with the Shelby Regional Arts Council. Continually evolving in her craft, Anna views art as a nexus of joy, intellectual challenge, and heartfelt inspiration.

Bill Guffey, 59, Burkesville

visual artist for 15 years and former mayor of Burkesville, KY, Billy uses oil paint to reflect the world around him. Google even recognized him for pioneering projects. Combining his love for art,

bourbon, and Kentucky, he creates pieces reflecting the state's unique charm. As he ages, Bill cherishes watching his family grow.

illy, an internationally recognized artist from Kentucky, excels in blending horror, sci-fi, and fantasy elements. With 30 years of experience, he's renowned for his unique "splatter" technique, traditional illustrations, and pop culture-inspired

works. His current projects include documenting the rich history of the Batmobile and a series of paintings depicting moonshine runners.Billy continually explores new techniques and themes as he matures, bringing a fresh dynamism to his art.

Claudia Mata, 54,Louisville

laudia, a mother of three from Guerrero, Mexico, is a gifted hand embroidery artist. Taught by her mother, her vibrant, multi-colored pieces enliven clothing, hats, shoes, and home decor. Her art,

reflecting the rich artistry of her Mexican heritage, serves as a vibrant tapestry of her cultural roots and life in Kentucky. Her work celebrates family, personal growth, and shared heritage.

David Reed, 61, Lawrenceburg

avid is a celebrated Kentucky artist who transcends cultural barriers with his paintings. His works, often centered on local bourbon distilleries, highlight the transformative power of

art. With age, Reed embraces the miracles of life— fatherhood and sensory exploration—deepening his creative process.

"Despite my Alzheimer's, my passion for piano and art remains; it makes the art of music even more special to me. I am 101 years young and still fighting to stay creative."

Hazel Wilhoyte, 101, Louisville

azel is excited to be a part of this exhibit as it enables her to express her passion for piano and art. Turning 102 in October, her love for creativity remains undiminished. Art holds great significance for her due to her passion for music and creativity.

Living with Alzheimer's, she finds art even more special as it helps her remember the art of music. Additionally, Hazel says she has a profound love for happy people.

"Art offers a way of life that is very fulfilling in many different ways."

Janet Hoard, 57, Crestwood

rawing inspiration from nature, sound, and life experiences, Janet has found her artistic passion to be a fulfilling way of life. Now retired from her 9-to-5 job, she has embraced the opportunity

to pursue art full-time. She loves projects for their ability to spark her imagination, energize her spirit, and invigorate her heart.

"I love the calm, gentle wisdom surrounding horses. I try to convey the personality of an animal or the mood of a sunrise into my artwork so the viewer can enjoy it over and over again."

Jennifer Vaughn, 52, Lawrenceburg

he recently leaped into her career as a professional artist, having taught and practiced art her whole life. Known for painting local murals, she recently shifted her focus to renowned racehorses. Jennifer

views art as a means of communication, an emotional outlet, and a celebration of Kentucky's beauty and diversity. Her work manifests her appreciation for nature and equine grace.

"Anyone can create. Even if you don't think you can, just do it, and it will happen. There is always more to glean from this awesome world God has created around us. A wise person stays open to those opportunities."

Judith Kennedy Zinner, 52, Louisville

n award-winning artist and entrepreneur from Kentucky, captivated by the beauty of architecture, reflections, and shadows. After a business consulting and music career, Zinner found her calling in oil painting. Her work, often featured

in exhibitions and commissions, led to her opening "Whet Your Palette," an interactive art studio. As a lifelong learner, Zinner sees art as a universal language and believes in the power of creation for all ages and skill levels.

"I'm 63 years old, and the best thing about getting older has been my transition to become a full-time artist, and I feel that I still have many years ahead of me to fulfill this amazing journey."

artist, he is enjoying the freedom to express his feelings and thoughts about the world through his creative works.

"Art is important because it evokes an emotional response in both the creator and the viewer, particularly joy when the artwork is bright and colorful."

Larry Darst, 80, Leitchfield

retired PE teacher, Larry has always found joy in doodling, especially while listening to preachers' sermons. "Seasoned Spirits" marks his first time displaying his art publicly. Although he has never regarded his doodling as art, he appreciates

the joy-inducing power of colorful works. With age, Darst has discovered unprecedented wisdom and inner peace, which he credits to his faith in Jesus Christ.

"Art, drawings, and music have saved me from falling into post-immigrant depression."

Luis de León, 52, Louisville

uis, born in Mexico, lived in Guatemala for nearly 15 years. As a journalist and musician, he expresses his artistic flair through participation in five Louisville bands and his vivid drawings. Since moving to the United States a decade ago, his

work has graced exhibitions and illustrated books internationally. Now at 52, Luis skillfully intertwines his passions for music, art, and journalism, challenging stereotypes and celebrating the rich human tapestry of Kentucky.

"The very best thing about aging has been the gift of time. I have time to experiment, time to learn from others, time to practice and apply new skills, time to contemplate, and time to be bold and share my work with others!"

etired teacher who has used her newfound freedom to immerse herself in art, experimenting with new techniques and enhancing her skills. She particularly enjoys working with acrylics and paper

clay, creating durable and striking pieces. Her work celebrates the beauty of nature and her ongoing artistic journey.

Marty Osbourn O'Daniel, 55, Louisville

full time nurse turned artist, she discovered her painting talents in 2017. Embracing life at 55 with "smart ambition," she transitioned to a full-time art career after raising her three sons. Her artistry reflects a new season of life, one she devotes to

passionately creating art and setting boundaries. Marty aims to inspire others through her work, reminding them it's always possible to discover new abilities.

"Following 34 years with IATSE Local 17, I've found a renewed freedom in dedicating time to my passion for painting and celebrating Kentucky's rich artistic heritage."

Matthew Dicken, 64, Louisville

e embarked on his artistic journey inspired by his siblings and teachers. After a 34-year tenure with IATSE Local 17, he has shifted his focus to painting with fervor from his studio, nestled within his son's

Highlands gallery, "What Makes You Smile Gallery and Gifts." His work pays homage to Kentucky's vibrant art scene and its storied bourbon tradition.

"Creating art is my visual pathway toward celebrating life. Despite Parkinson's, I remain an artist at heart. Art is my meditation, my medication, and it soothes me. It is my present, past, and future connection to this infinite world."

Stephanie Batts, 56, Lexington

mental health therapist, poet, and painter from Kentucky who uniquely channels her professional insights into evocative artwork. Using mediums like acrylic, oil, and cold wax, she predominantly paints on wood panels, seeking to inspire self-connection and environmental awareness. Recently returning

to her home state, she celebrates the theme of aging through her work, integrating both societal and personal viewpoints. Her mission is to unify art, wellness, and nature, encapsulating the essence of Kentucky.

"Through our artwork, we aspire to serve as a reminder to our fellow citizens that freedom is a precious and hard-earned treasure."

David and Terri Sierra, 65 and 59, Louisville

dynamic artist duo based in Louisville. David, a New York-born Hispanic artist, specializes in oil portraiture, capturing diverse walks of life. Terri, a lifelong artist, creates vibrant murals, turning photographs into abstract expressions of color and

shape. They own two art studios and the 'Creative Eyedias' gallery. Their work, rooted in their military family experiences, contributes to Kentucky's rich cultural tapestry. Their art uplifts spirits while fostering societal connections.

Tim O'Connell, 64, Louisville

"The possibility that something that I create from nothing can connect with someone else on some level is pretty dang groovy."

Todd Fife, 58, Bowling Green

arts scene in Kentucky, Todd is keen on debunking stereotypes through his art. He appreciates the confidence that age and experience have brought him in his artistic journey.

Winkie Hollenbach Dawkins, 59, Louisville

5th-generation Kentuckian, Winkie's passion for art is deeply rooted in her state's rich bourbon heritage. After raising her three children and carrying on as the proud widow of an Army

Green Beret, she reignited her artistic journey. She believes in the power of art as a soulful expression integral to the human condition.

T The mission of Beam Vets is to recognize and celebrate Beam Suntory military Veterans, build awareness and reinforce the benefits of working in the spirits industry, and positively engage with the Veteran community.

hrough sponsorship funds provided by Fire Protection Services, Inc., Bourbon with Heart was able to commission artist Gail Corso to hand-paint the Jim Beam small batch collection on a bourbon barrel. The handpainted barrel was then donated to Beam Vets, where it was handsigned by Master Distiller Fred Noe and auctioned off to raise funds for USA Cares.

eamVets stands as Beam Suntory's Employee Impact Group for Military Veterans, family members, and allies. The EIG was established four years ago under the leadership of James Trusley, JBBDCo Director of Safety and Security, and Allen Guess, Health and Safety Manager at Booker Noe Plant. Trusley and Guess, both US ARMY Veterans, helm the group, with Guess concurrently serving in the KY National Guard as a Major. The primary mission of the Veterans employee impact group is to attract veterans to the distilled spirits industry. The group aids the veterans they recruit through mentoring, resource provision, and engagement.

he mission of the National Parkinsons Institute is to bolster the battle against Parkinson’s Disease by enhancing the quality of life through exercise, education, and awareness. For over ten years, they have offered Parkinson’s specific classes and programs entirely free of cost, encompassing Rock Steady Boxing, Fight Back with Fitness, various support groups, group outings, and educational seminars and symposiums. The institute's services are designed to mitigate the financial burden, as they offer all their services free to the community. In addition, they work to ease the physical limitations associated with Parkinson's disease. Their support groups significantly influence the mental health and well-being of the patient and their care partner. The Rock Steady Boxing, one of their programs, instills hope in individuals with Parkinson's by improving their quality of life through non-contact boxing. This organization conducts these classes from Monday to Thursday at various locations, entirely free of cost for the community, and they are always open to new volunteers.

Heaven's Door Unveils New Kentucky Distillery and Visual Arts Center

eaven’s Door, the celebrated whiskey brand founded by Bob Dylan, has announced its plans to open a new distillery in Pleasureville, Kentucky. The picturesque property, situated on over 160 acres of rolling hills bordering Six Mile Creek, was once owned by Squire Boone, the brother of the legendary frontiersman Daniel Boone. Born and raised in Corbin, Kentucky, within the printing industry, Bryan developed an appreciation for the complexity of the color spectrum. Kentucky-born artist Chanson Calhoun

recently unveiled her deeply personal song, "Kentucky Heart," for her rebirth album. After facing adversities like a near-fatal car crash and the tragic loss of her brother to COVID-19, Chanson returned to her roots with renewed determination. Drawing inspiration from her home, she performed at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts on August 4, dedicating the show to her late brother. The concert was a spiritual journey reflecting Calhoun's experiences, hope, and resilience.

Bluegrass Distillers Dedicates Single Barrel to Bourbon with Heart

Bluegrass Distillers, a respected craft distillery, was founded in Lexington, KY, in 2012. As the craft industry has evolved over the past decade, so too has Bluegrass Distillers, consistently elevating their craft to produce remarkable products. They are renowned for their innovative approach, unique mash bills, distinct distillation practices, and barrel finishing. They are currently in the midst of a significant transition, moving their operations to a historic 62-acre property in Midway, KY, where they are cultivating blue corn and preparing to open a new visitor center in 2023. In 2018, they initiated the Philanthropy Barrel Program, which raises money for local nonprofits through the sales of Single Barrel selections. Since its inception, the program and other initiatives have raised more than $80,000. The aim is to support Kentucky nonprofits without imposing any financial burden on these organizations. For the entire month of September, $15 from each bottle sold from a selected single barrel will be donated to Bourbon with Heart. The impact can be significant, with each barrel yielding approximately 200 - 220 bottles at cask strength. These bottles are available for purchase at their Lexington distillery.
