Welcome to Bedford Falls. Welcome to small town America. Welcome to Farnham Maltings’ Winter show.

Frank Capra’s classic 1946 movie needs no introduction. George Bailey, a desperate middle-aged clerk, discovers the difference he has made to his family, his friends and his home town (with a little help from Clarence, the apprentice angel.)

Following the success of Miracle on 34th Street, Farnham Maltings is bringing the struggles and joys of 1940s small town America to the villages and towns of England.

Using their own, inimitable style the company has created two hours of theatre that promise to warm the coldest of places through the long winter nights.

Discovered in the Shropshire Archives, a book of letters sent during 1917-1920 between a group of six young Shropshire women reveals their everyday lives as farmers, office workers, factory hands, nurses and teachers. This document has directly inspired and informed this show. There is gossip and hint of scandal, reprimands and reprisals, tales of dancing for royalty, fiancés on the frontline and how to feed 100 chickens while on rations. Warm and witty storytelling combining character, live music and a touch of cabaret.

Woody Holler and his Orchestra are purveyors of ‘western swing’ music... but also so much more. Woody grew up hearing the songs of the cowboy. Although he was later trained in opera, a sense of nostalgia held him close to the early western genre. Woody met up with some topnotch jazz musicians, and the crossover was magical. Consisting of some of Canada’s finest folk/ jazz musicians, Woody’s orchestra creates a style that Woody defines as “jazz from the saddle”.

The repertoire is eclectic, fun and fascinating, featuring finger-snapping swing beats, honeyslowed love croons and show-stopping ‘extreme’ yodelling, not to mention a memorable rendition of Champion the Wonder Horse!

Ticket prices vary – the events are subsidised and we do our best to keep prices affordable whilst not compromising on quality or range. As our prices are so reasonable, most venues do not offer concessionary rates for pensioners.

Ticket prices are indicated thus: £10 (adult) /£5 (child) /£30 (family).
