WELCOME

Dear audiences Welcome to a packed new programme of live shows offering international visitors, great drama, new gems and old favourites. Our big news is that our application to the Arts Council has been successful, so Arts Alive can continue working with local promoters to bring our communities an exciting and varied programme of top quality, live performances, in informal spaces. We take pride in the quality of what is on offer; many shows have been scouted at Edinburgh and other festivals, bringing you the best of what we find. Last chance in October to catch our innovative contemporary project, Field Notes, created in partnership with Craftspace and Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. A very rare opportunity to hear contemporary music played by top class musicians in an intimate setting, to meet textile artist Matthew Harris and composer Howard Skempton and discuss their work. My Big Fat Cowpat Wedding is a comic four hander that has arisen from an urban/ rural community exchange we set up in 2011. We discovered so much to laugh about in uncovering our prejudices and misunderstandings about our different lives, that we knew we had to use this material. You are invited to come along to the wedding reception and see for yourselves! My Dearest Girls is another performance made with Arts Alive’s involvement. We wanted to programme a piece that was rurally rooted and had a new take on WW1; My Dearest Girls is those years as seen through the eyes of young Shropshire women, researched in Shropshire Archives. Sian Kerry Co-director, Arts Alive e: sian@artsalive.co.uk Have you had an ‘Arts Alive moment’? Four ways to give us your comments: 1. website artsalive.co.uk – just click on the lime green comment box 2. Twitter @artsaliveevents – help more people find out about Arts Alive events! 3. email sian@artsalive.co.uk 4. write us a letter – many do and we love to receive them! Lift sharing: Why not share an outing with friends? The ideal way to halve the travel cost, reduce carbon emissions and enjoy company; why not see if anyone wants to come along with you to an event? Can you help us to reach the rural corners? Can you distribute a few brochures for us? With the high cost of postage and fuel we struggle to distribute to all the rural corners of our counties, so if you can spread a few in your area please email mary@artsalive.co.uk and we will be in touch.

How to Book your tickets •

All details are correct at the time of going to press; however we strongly advise

• •

Either phone your local promoter directly, or

Advance booking is recommended as many shows sell out – please don’t be

you to ring to check times, tickets prices and availability.

Book online – Good news! We have changed to use PayPal – you can use this even if you don’t have a PayPal account. Fees remain at £1 per ticket to a maximum of £5. Why not log on and book all your tickets in one go? disappointed.

Venue access information: facilities vary; we advise you to check with individual venues. If you have specific access requirements, please ring the local promoter who will be happy to assist. Our website has access information for all our venues.

Ticket prices vary – the minimum adult price is £8. However ALL events are subsidised and we do our best to keep prices affordable whilst not compromising on quality or range. As our prices are so reasonable, most venues do not offer concessionary rates for pensioners. Ticket prices are generally indicated thus: £8 (adult) /£5 (child) /£26 (family).

We programme work for all ages, giving whole communities a chance to come together for social and cultural activity. Every event is subsidised. Volunteer promoters give over 5,000 hours of their time to make these events happen. It provides an opportunity for people to meet and something to look forward to” Audience member “It would be very hard for a venue of our size to afford this without Arts Alive’s financial support” Promoter, Leintwardine Please help us continue to bring top class performers and big screen films right to your doorstep. By giving as little as £3 per month, you can help us keep this service available to our small towns, villages and hamlets in Herefordshire and Shropshire.
