JOURNEYS FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL Journeys Festival International is an annual Festival that showcases the work of artists from the refugee and asylum seeker community and through art events, performances, screenings and workshops shares the stories of those who have experienced forced migration. Now in its third year, Journeys Festival International has grown into a 10-day Festival working with over 100 artists in events that take place across the city. ArtReach develops the Festival in collaboration with extraordinary partners, from frontline charities to internationally renowned venues, arts organisations and artists. We encourage you to take time to get to know our partners, the work they do year-round and find out how you can improve the lives of refugees and asylum seekers who share our city, through advocating, campaigning, meeting new people, sharing their stories and celebrating their incredible talents. We would like to say a very special thank you for our wonderful ROOTS Group. The ROOTS Group is a group of 10 dedicated and inspiring individuals who come from around the world, made up of many ages, religions, languages and cultures, all of whom have either experienced forced migration, the asylum process or are new arrivals in the UK. They have shared their thoughts, guided us in creating the Festival and helped us better understand the breadth of cultures, people and experiences from within their communities.
FESTIVAL LAUNCH EVENT 4 October 6.30pm – 8.00pm The Whitworth, Oxford Rd, M15 6ER Join us to celebrate the launch of our third city wide edition in Manchester. THE WORLD IN MANCHESTER: A PROJECT ABOUT HOME + IDENTITY
by Kate Daudy
The World in Manchester is a city-wide exhibition programme by international artist Kate Daudy commissioned by ArtReach. Kate is renowned for her work exploring the limits of language and for her sculpture/text crossovers, often creating interventions in public/private spaces. Multidimensional works resulting from her interactions can be seen across Europe, America and the Middle East. The project aims to set Manchester and its people at the heart of a local and national debate to explore how we are all connected.
‘AM I MY BROTHERS KEEPER?’ 8-14 October Manchester Art Gallery
A United Nations High Commission for Refugees desert tent, in which a family lived for several months, and on which Daudy inscribed observations from refugees from nearly 60 countries, and material from a funding project in Syria which commissioned crochet circles to be made by internally displaced women in the refugee camps.

CROSSING BORDERS
by Matilda Glen
BE//LONGING
by Take Back Theatre Using research from University of Manchester Migration Lab, Take Back Theatre lead you on a journey from borders to belonging – exploring the reality of migration and the stories behind the headlines. A script-in-hand performance on the Crossing Borders Installation (weather permitting). Crossing Borders is an outdoor installation created by artist Matilda Glen to shed light on the continued suffering of refugees across Europe. This artwork is informed by Matilda’s volunteer work with refugees in Calais and Paris, and shares how different this experience was from the news reports she was receiving in the UK. The work explores the hardships endured by displaced people and uses the power of art and storytelling to challenge media reporting of the current refugee crisis, as well as seeking to encourage discussion, integration and a better understanding of the current situation at our borders.
