The sun was shining on Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue last Saturday for the grand opening of the long-awaited new kennel block at Mill Race Farm, Finningley. There was a fantastic turnout with many visitors bringing their own greyhounds and other dogs. The special guests for the day were the Reverend Kate Bottley, her co-celebrity husband Graham, and not forgetting their lovely greyhound Buster from the hit Channel 4 show Gogglebox. Kate and Graham declared the new kennel block open with the assistance of two beautiful blue Tia rescue Sponsor dogs, Glen and Molly. It was great to see the sponsored kennels from a few local businesses too. The dogs at the rescue all loved hanging out with a celebrity for the afternoon all individually receiving kind words and a love, not one dog went by without getting an introduction and a stroke. Special attention was given to Michael, a recovering greyhound receiving care, attention and lots of love at Tia rescue. Michael is one of a number of Tia dogs that has had a traumatic past, so for him to feel comfortable receiving all of the fuss from Kate was a wonderful site to see. He is now looking for a home to call his own. No animal was left out of the proceedings as Kate and Graham went on to feed the horses, stroke the donkeys and chat with the turkeys. The vet room visit was particularly upsetting, but plays a vital part at Tia Rescue as this is where all the animals are cared for, nursed, loved all with TLC from all staff (including volunteers) that work here at Tia. This is what all your donations go towards, food, shelter, vet care, medication, utilities, necessary equipment and much, much more. Every penny helps. After browsing the onsite charity shop and pet shop, Kate and Graham enjoyed a well-deserved cuppa in the dog friendly café, and not to be left out, the lovely Buster was treated to an ice-cream. Dogs like Michael need a forever home to call their own, and have so much love to give. Perhaps your life
