GRATITUDE TO OUR 2024 SPONSORS: AEDC COMMUNITY THRIVES
WITH YOUR SUPPORT
By: Nicole Whitt
At the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), the heart of our community beats a little stronger each year, thanks to the generous contributions of our sponsors. In 2024, their unwavering support has been instrumental in offsetting the costs of organizing a wide variety of events that enrich and unite the AEDC community.
From festive celebrations to competitive sports, our events have flourished, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie among community members. These endeavors, which bring joy and inspiration, would not have been possible without the financial backing of our dedicated sponsors.
Their commitment has not only helped us cover event expenses but has also enabled us to elevate the quality and scale of our programs. This means more opportunities for our community to engage, learn, and grow together in an environment that reflects the high standards and innovative spirit of AEDC.
As we reflect on this year, we are deeply grateful for the partnership with our local community. Their contributions have made a significant impact, and for that, Services extends our heartfelt thanks!

What is
your
favorite part about working UNITE events?
Being able to assist commanders and directors facilitate team building events for their staff is my favorite part about working UNITE events. It is important to be able to spend some time outside of the office and provide the opportunity to rest and recharge. The opportunity UNITE allows for a team to bond can have tangible effects on the performance of a group. People work together fast, better and safer.
What do you wish the AEDC community knew about UNITE?
I would like to emphasize the simplicity and accessibility of organizing a UNITE event. My aim is to support the AEDC workforce by making it as straightforward as possible for them to utilize their allotted funding and host successful events. UNITE allocates $18.00 per individual annually for activities and food. These funds are designated for AEDC personnel, and it is the responsibility of the commanders and directors to ensure their proper utilization.
What is your favorite memory at a UNITE event?
I take great pleasure in observing everyone as they relax and enjoy themselves. Outside of the typical work environment, individuals are more likely to feel at ease and open up. It is crucial to become acquainted with your colleagues, and UNITE events provide an excellent opportunity to learn moreabout the people you spend over 40 hours a week with.

TRUNK OR TREAT OVERVIEW
This year's Trunk or Treat event was nothing short of amazing, with 450+ spirited attendees —our highest turnout of the year! With 20 creatively decorated trunks, the atmosphere was bursting with Halloween fun.
Participants enjoyed a thrilling costume contest , a challenging scavenger hunt , and delightful cookie decorating . A special shoutout to our costume contest winners : the eerily accurate Wednesday Addams , the rock ' n ' roll legend Elvis Presley , and the chilling Chucky . The Trunk winners were Lt . Col . Kristopher Dhaul , and Donna Spears & Matt Pires of First Horizon Bank .
Thank you to everyone who made this event a huge success . We can ' t wait for next year ’ s Halloween fun !

DO YOU HAVE A VETERAN’S HEALTH IDENTIFICATION CARD (VHIC)?
Are you a veteran?
The John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2019 allows veterans (Purple Heart/Medal of Honor recipients, former prisoners of war, or with serviceconnected disability (SCD) and their guests) and other certain veterans use of the commissary, military exchange and certain Morale Welfare and Recreation facilities.
The VHIC is the credential used to establish identity for the purpose of access control. A REAL ID-compliant (STAR) driver’s license is used to establish identity for the purpose of force protection. The VHIC establishes purpose both for the cardholder and for the cardholder’s accompanying guest. The card will only display the veteran’s name, picture, and special eligibility indicators on the front of the card, if applicable. Veterans will require a VHIC that displays “PURPLE HEART,” “MEDAL OF HONOR”, “FORMER POW,” or “SERVICE CONNECTED” below the photo on the front of the card for installation and benefit access.
