“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from Him.”
– Psalm 62:5
One of my favorite scriptures is Psalm 46:10 which tells us quite simply, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Being still is a tall order when our days can feel like one continual to-do list. But this time of year, I encourage you to spend some time just “being” with God. Let’s all slow down our inner Martha, for a while, and spend some time just being Mary at His feet. Come to Him expecting nothing more than sweet fellowship. Get out in His creation and allow Him to calm your heart and nurture your spirit.
We hope you enjoy our annual Leading Women section. We always enjoy writing it and introducing you to some of the outstanding women who make this area like no other.

A CLASSIC TWIST
Greta Gerwig’s Little Women (2019) is a fresh, emotionally rich take on the classic novel. With a nonlinear narrative and standout performances — especially Saoirse Ronan as Jo and Florence Pugh as Amy — Gerwig breathes new life into the March sisters’ world. The film is visually lush, smartly scripted, and layered with warmth and wit. It honors Louisa May Alcott’s spirit while offering a modern, feminist lens that feels both timely and timeless.
JAZZ IT UP
Cyrille Aimée is a French jazz vocalist whose voice dances effortlessly between genres—think gypsy swing, bossa nova, and classic jazz, all with a mischievous twist.
Raised in Samois-surSeine, the same town

Django Reinhardt once called home, she snuck out to jam sessions as a teen and never looked back. Her globe-trotting spirit infuses every note she sings. Aimée’s latest album, à Fleur de Peau, just earned a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. With this project, she continues to charm and challenge listeners, proving that jazz can still surprise you.

FAITHFUL COMPANIONS
Humorous and heartfelt, Pets (directed by Bryce Dallas Howard) profiles a diverse cast of characters from everyday pet guardians to dedicated animal rescuers to kids who are pet parents, highlighting the uniquely vital connections they share with their dogs, cats, pigs, goats, and even birds of prey.
A medley of inspirational stories, archival footage, viral videos, and engaging interviews, Pets takes us on a hilarious and poignant journey that celebrates love, loss, and licks along the way.

A BUSINESS CLASS CONFESSION
VISIONS OF COMMODUS AT 30,000 FEET
BY MIKE MAZYCK
e Apostle Paul wrote the following words from a Roman prison cell, approximately 2000 years ago…
“Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing rm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel…” – Philippians 1:27
I vividly remember reading that verse last July, not long after the plane had taken o on our ight from DFW to Doha. It was the rst of three ights with my daughter Madeline, and her friend, Gracie. We were headed to spend a couple weeks with my good friends, Je and Stephanie Bys, at Mercy Home, the orphanage they had started about 8 years ago in a small village in Kenya.
Shortly after takeoff I decided to spend some time in the Word. I didn’t get far into Philippians before I had one of those beautiful and sobering moments where the Holy Spirit illuminates a passage to your heart.
As I read those words in verse 27, I remember sitting back in my seat and thinking to myself… is was one of those epic “Braveheart” like moments for Paul.
I imagined him in my mind sitting in a dark dungeon with chains around his ankles, awaiting his possible martyrdom. His troops remained on the battle eld and the enemy seems to have them far outnumbered. He knows that he must make, what could be, a nal plea to his men, to summon that spirit of courage within them. And so, the spirit of Paul, and Christ within him, cries out to his troops…
Men, there is only one thing that matters: Live a life worthy of our Great Commander! e one who su ered and shed His blood for you! (paraphrase)
And for those men who needed more clarity, he expounds on his battle cry… “Standing rm in one spirit… with one mind…
striving side by side…
For the faith of the gospel.”
Make no mistake about it, Paul is using words of warfare here. If you look up the Greek de nition for that word “striving” you will see that it represents a great con ict or struggle. It implies that there is an opponent
As I stared out the small window of that plane, I summed up Paul’s words in my head…he is pleading with his troops to ght valiantly alongside one another on the battle eld, against a common adversary, and for a common cause, that is in nitely greater than themselves; the faith of the Gospel – the souls of men.
Oh, it sounded so epic in my mind. A legendary war on a cosmic battle eld. A diabolical adversary. A common cause that every soldier would live a life worthy
of a great Commander and King who had su ered such a heinous death to rescue them. A divine saga for all the ages to come. But as I sat there, contemplating the eternal reality of this epic tale we live in, I kept coming back to three words: side by side. I thought about my friend Je , whom I was on my way to visit. I considered the life he gave up here in America to go rescue orphaned children and preach the Gospel in Kenya. I considered the conditions he now lives in – the conveniences and comforts he has given up for the cause of Christ. I knew that Je was a man striving on the eld of battle in that epic saga. But the question I wasn’t so sure about was this; Was I by his side?
I looked around me, on that plane, and considered my current circumstance. I was ying “business class” to Kenya on a so called “missions” trip to go visit my friend Je . e truth is that I paid three times the cost of a normal ticket so that I could enjoy the comforts and conveniences of that seat. Of course, all the expected rebuttals quickly came to mind…
“But Mike, you can’t say it’s a sin to y business class?”
“But Mike, its 15-20 hours of traveling. If you have the money, then it’s ok for you to enjoy it.”
“But Mike, your 6’2” and have broad shoulders, your situation is a little di erent.”
“But Mike….”
As I contemplated these rebuttals, my mind drifted — or maybe it was steered — to another epic movie, Gladiator. I vividly recalled the scene at the beginning of the movie where Maximus had just led his troops to victory at the Battle of Vindobana. In that scene, Prince Commodus conveniently arrives, adorned in all his royal armor, after the battle has been fought and victory secured. He remains on his horse at the back of the battle eld, looking on from a distance, with a big smile on his face, as if he had actually done something. But he hadn’t. His sword had never been unsheathed. His body was not covered with sweat, and mud, and the blood of his enemies. He had not a scratch on him. He su ered nothing. He risked nothing. at scene set the stage for his character throughout the entire movie; Commodus — the coward!
As I thought about that scene, I realized the rebuttals in my mind were questions
that no longer needed to be answered. ey became irrelevant.
Was it technically wrong (a.k.a. sinful) for Commodus to show up at the end of the battle, after victory had been secured? No, I don’t believe it was. He was the prince. He could do what he wanted. I imagine there would have been a hundred convincing rebuttals in his mind, but make no mistake about it, he was still a coward. Furthermore, his cowardice meant that he was not living a life worthy of his father, the great king, Marcus Aurelius.
As I contemplated that scene, and my brother Je , and the current reality of my circumstance on that plane, I couldn’t help but wonder: Is that me?
Is it possible that I am Commodus? Is it possible that these business class seats re ect something of much greater concern about my Christianity? Am I a man who loves to study, and talk, and write, about what it means to pick up a cross and follow Christ, but isn’t actually doing it? Am I truly ghting side by side with my brother Je ? Or have I left him all alone on the eld of battle?
As I thought about that last question, I remember a tear began to run down my face. I thought about how lonely it must be for those weary soldiers of Christ who have showed up to the ght: e ones who are on the front-line risking everything for Him. e ones whose hands are calloused from wielding a sword. e ones who carry the stench of war and death, and whose faces drip with sweat and blood, because they made the conscious decision to su er for Him during this life. How must they feel when they look to their right, and to their left, and see no brother by their side? I wonder what goes through their mind when they turn around, and with squinted eyes, get a glimpse of the ones who profess to be their comrades, sitting atop their horses in shiny armor, cheering them on from afar? Are they encouraged by those cheers?
As I stared out the window of that plane and pondered these things, that business class pod I was sitting in was becoming a little less comfortable. All I could do was pray: Oh Lord, let me not live a life of cowardice! I don’t want to leave my brother all alone on the eld of battle. I beg you, do not let me be so deceived as to be a hearer of the word, and a writer of the word, and a preacher of the word, but not a doer of the word.
I know that an article like this tends to illicit a wide range of responses. Many won’t be able to get past me experiencing personal conviction about business class seats. ey will say I am living under the Law and that I have forgotten it’s all about grace. Others are going to read this and interpret it as me saying that all Christians must live miserable lives of self-denial and su ering or else they are lukewarm cowards. Neither of those things are true.
e truth is that this article is about joy. It is about a better life. It is about a treasure that is of such value that when a man nds it, he joyfully lays down everything to acquire it. (Matthew 13:44) It is about a treasure of such value that a man would nd himself grateful to have the opportunity to su er for it during this life. He would consider those su erings to be “light and momentary a iction”. He would consider everything laid down to be of no value in comparison to what he has gained.
Is this the type of treasure you are searching for? Are you looking for a better life; One that is lled with joy unspeakable? Have any of my monthly articles in this magazine resonated with you? If so, I would like to invite you to watch something special I’ve prepared for you. For the last six months I’ve been working on a lm about the three trips I’ve taken to Kenya to visit Mercy Home, and how God has used those trips to change my life. I’m con dent that you will not only enjoy this lm, but that it will ll in the gaps where my written words have proved to be de cient.

Tiffany Young & Crew
BRINGING
A SOFTER SIDE TO CONSTRUCTION AND REMODELING
BY DREW ANDERSON
Construction has historically been viewed as a manly and gritty profession requiring a strong back and rough hands, but this is not the case with Tiffany Young, owner of Tiffany Young & Crew. Tiffany brings a softer side to construction with her sole focus on providing a positive remodeling process for her clients. Tiffany and her crew walk their customers through every step of their remodel project from design to build out and color selection to punch out. Tiffany is a creative visionary, and her passion is transformation. Tiffany has a deep faith and loves “transforming the worn-out and damaged into the beautiful and restored, just like Jesus does with our lives”. Tiffany Young & Crew is a company that was born out of necessity. After doing a few remodels of her own and struggling to flip houses, Tiffany realized there was a lot of frustration

“To be invited into someone’s home and help them create beautiful spaces is a high honor that I take very seriously. To give our very best effort to every client, every single time and leave them with more than they expected is our goal and it is what drives me every day.”
associated with finding dependable contractors. Reliability, honesty and true craftsmanship was severely lacking. With 2 sons heading off to college, the need for a second income was prudent. Tiffany saw a need in the industry and decided to capitalize on her God-given talents of vision and creativity. Being reliable, providing excellent craftsmanship and being completely transparent is at the core of her business. Some of her unique business practices include:
• Utilizing crews that work exclusively for Tiffany Young & Crew, allowing more control over scheduling and quality.
• Exclusively using licensed tradespeople, including electricians and plumbers.
• Complimentary design services for her clients.
“To be invited into someone’s home and help them create beautiful spaces is a high honor that I take very seriously. To give our very best effort to every client, every single time and leave them with more than they expected is our goal and it is what drives me every day.” Tiffany said. Tiffany Young & Crew’s primary goal is to exceed the expectations of their clients. They attribute a large part of their success to the countless referrals they receive from satisfied clients. "Tiffany walked through every step with me and was the visionary that I couldn’t be” said Valerie, a former client. “Her crew is wonderful and are very hard working and conscientious of taking care of your home. I also can’t rave enough about the customer service they provide months/years after they have completed the job."
While Tiffany is the founder and visionary for the business, she has surrounded herself with incredibly knowledgeable and experienced people. She is supported by her father and business partner, Mike Hanner, who keeps all things in order. “My dad is someone I have always admired. I have learned so much from him and now I am so blessed today to have him as a partner in my business,” Tiffany said. “He keeps everything straight behind the scenes so I can fully focus on serving our clients”.
Other talent on Tiffany’s team include Zack Nixon and Jay Matthews as Project Managers. Tiffany also gains insight from her husband, Clint Young. Clint is
a certified Master Builder with a degree in Construction Management and has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. “He is my first phone call if I ever get stumped”. Tiffany said.
Tiffany and her family reside in Mansfield. Tiffany and Clint have three sons, Hayden, Hunt and Hayes, and all are involved in the business. Recently Tiffany promoted her 2 older sons to keep up with the rapid growth of the business. Hayden, a recent graduate of Texas Tech University with a degree in Finance, is assisting with estimating and customer relations. Hunt, who will graduate in May of next year with a BBA from The University of Texas at Arlington, has also come on board to support financial operations and scheduling. Their youngest son, Hayes, is currently in the 9th grade.
"Bringing Hayden and Hunt on board in new roles isn’t just a family milestone—it’s a powerful step forward for our business. The boys have been working alongside me since they were young, doing the hard work, grunt work—hauling trash, demoing, cleaning—whatever needed to be done. Our family values hands-on hard work, and they both started at the bottom. Now, as they step into new roles, they carry with them the same core values that built Tiffany Young & Crew: honesty, excellence, and genuine care for our clients. Their younger brother, Hayes, who is 15, is now doing the less desirable work they once did, because in our family, it’s about earning your place. Together, we’re building something that will stand the test of time."
Tiffany Young is a rarity in this world and in her industry. Unlike most, she is not driven by money, and she doesn’t put a lot of stock into material things. Her motivation comes from helping others and creating beautiful spaces. Whatever your construction or remodel needs may be, Tiffany and her team are ready to assist you in bringing your vision to life and making your space truly special.

NEXT-LEVEL WELLNESS:
training—all rolled into one personalized experience. It’s designed to activate neuroplasticity, sharpen focus, reduce stress, and level up emotional regulation.
It’s like putting your brain in the gym—and walking out with a mental six-pack.
WHY THE COMBO IS A POWER MOVE
Here’s where things get exciting. When you combine balanced hormones with neuro-enhancement tech, you’re no longer just optimizing—you’re upgrading.
1. BRAIN GAINS, SUPERCHARGED
Your brain thrives on hormonal harmony. Estrogen and testosterone directly influence memory, focus, and clarity. Once your hormones are dialed in with pellets, EXOMIND protocols work faster and more effectively. It’s like tuning up the engine before you hit the racetrack.
2. ELEVATED MOOD = ELEVATED LIFE
Feeling anxious, unmotivated, or stuck in brain fog? That’s often hormone-related. Pellet therapy gets your chemistry right. EXOMIND then helps rewire your mental patterns. Together, they shift your baseline from “just getting by” to “fired up and thriving.”
3. ENERGY THAT DOESN’T CRASH
Forget afternoon slumps or running on caffeine. This combo restores natural energy cycles—so you wake up focused and wind down without burnout. It’s sustainable vitality, not a quick fix.
4.
SLEEP LIKE YOU MEAN IT
Welcome to the future of optimized living. If you’re tapped into the latest in performance medicine and longevity science, you’ve likely heard the buzz around Hormone Pellet Therapy and EXOMIND therapy. Separately, they’re game-changers. Together? They’re a full-blown upgrade for your body and brain.
We’re talking next-gen biohacking that doesn’t just patch symptoms—it reboots your entire system.
FIRST, LET’S TALK HORMONES—BUT SMARTER
Hormone Pellet Therapy is not your average HRT. These tiny, plant-based pellets are customized to your body and inserted just under the skin. From there, they deliver a steady, natural dose of hormones—like estrogen or testosterone—24/7. No creams, no pills, no guessing.
Why it matters? Hormones are your body’s command center. Energy, metabolism, mood, sleep, sex drive—if your hormones are off, you feel it everywhere. Hormone Pellet Therapy brings your levels back to optimal—safely, naturally, and consistently.
NOW ENTER: EXOMIND
EXOMIND is the cutting edge of cognitive performance and brain recalibration. Think neurostimulation, biofeedback, brain mapping, and elite-level mental
Good sleep is non-negotiable for performance. Hormonal balance restores your circadian rhythm. EXOMIND trains your brain to downshift into deep, restorative rest. You’ll wake up feeling recharged, not just rested.
FINAL WORD: THIS IS THE FUTURE
The world’s top performers—from high-level execs to elite athletes—are already tapping into this dual approach. Hormone Pellet Therapy and EXOMIND aren’t just wellness trends—they’re part of a growing movement toward smarter, tech-enabled longevity.
If you’re ready to take back control of your body, your brain, and your edge—this is your move.

Bad Marriage: 25 Steps to Misery
BY LISA JENKINS-MOORE’S
Lisa Jenkins-Moore’s latest book, in collaboration with her husband, Mike, Bad Marriage: 25 Steps to Misery is a humorous look at marriage. It is not a faith-based book, but a witty, take on the obnoxious side of marital behaviors, a short, easy read most will find refreshing. Bad Marriage: 25 Steps to Misery is the first book in a series of Bad Books, so look for new releases in 2025.

One Golden Summer
BY CARLEY FORTUNE
I never anticipated Charlie Florek. Good things happen at the lake. That’s what Alice’s grandmother says, and it’s true. Alice spent just one summer there at a cottage with Nan when she was seventeen — it’s where she took that photo, the one of three grinning teenagers in a yellow speedboat, the image that changed her life.
Now Alice lives behind a lens. As a photographer, she’s most comfortable on the sidelines, letting other people shine. Lately though, she’s been itching for something more, and when Nan falls and breaks her hip, Alice comes up with a plan for them both: another summer in that magical place, Barry’s Bay. But as soon as they settle in, their peace is disrupted by the roar of a familiar yellow boat, and the man driving it.

Charlie Florek was nineteen when Alice took his photo from afar. Now he’s all grown up — a shameless flirt, who manages to make Nan laugh and Alice long to be seventeen again, when life was simpler, when taking pictures was just for fun. Sun-slanted days and warm nights out on the lake with Charlie are a balm for Alice’s soul, but when she looks up and sees his piercing green gaze directly on her, she begins to worry for her heart.
Because Alice sees people — that’s why she is so good at what she does — but she’s never met someone who looks and sees her right back.
Named a most anticipated book of 2025 by TODAY, E! News, Buzzfeed, Us Weekly, The New York Post, SheReads, and more.

DIANE BLAISING, AUD, ADA, ABA, FAAA
Cityview Audiology & Hearing Aids, Inc.
BY MEREDITH KNIGHT
As early as elementary school, Diane Blaising had a fascination with the workings of the auditory system. Now, as a board-certified doctor of audiology, she enjoys the “people side” of her field even more.
When Diane was just a kid and it was time for the school science fair, while other kids were building wind turbines with paper cups and fashioning batteries from lemons and potatoes, Diane’s experiment was a demonstration of “bone conduction hearing”.
“I took a record player to school and instead of using its needle on the record, I stuck a sewing needle into a pencil eraser,” she said. “You could hold the wooden end of the pencil between your teeth, place the needle on the turning record, and hear the record through the teeth and bones in your skulls.”
That fascination with the human auditory system hasn’t waned and these days she spends her time impacting the lives of her patients and their families by offering the gift of hearing through what she calls total hearing care. “I want my office to serve as a resource center for everything hearing,”
Dr. Blaising said. “For instance, I saw the way family members often struggle to communicate with loved ones who have hearing difficulties. So, we began offering a free class to anyone who wants to learn coping strategies for people with hearing loss and their families.”
Dr. Blaising is quick to credit much of the success of Cityview Audiology & Hearing Aids to her outstanding staff. “They join me in my mission to help our patients obtain a better quality of life by enhancing their ability to communicate with their families and friends, for deeper, more meaningful relationships,” she said. “We also love helping working men and women be more successful in their careers. When a patient is bothered by ringing in their ears, called Tinnitus, we offer testing and treatment for that as well.”

So, we began offering a free class to anyone who wants to learn coping strategies for people with hearing loss and their families.”
– DIANE BLAISING
Advanced hearing-aid technology allows Dr. Blaising to treat most hearing loss successfully. “Of course, every patient is unique,” she said. “We’re diligent about staying abreast of advancements in the programming software that allows us to correctly fit hearing instruments to each individual patient.”
Diane Blaising received her doctor of audiology degree from the Arizona School of Health Sciences and her master’s degree in audiology from the Callier Center for Communication Disorders at the University of Texas at Dallas. She has decades of experience working with hearing-impaired adults and children in otolaryngologists’ offices in
Louisville and as a pediatric audiologist at the Louisville Deaf Oral School. She is board certified in audiology by the American Board of Audiology and has twice received the Ace Award for continuing education. She and her husband attend First Baptist Church in Dallas and Dr. Blaising is a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association. Find out more at CityviewHearing.com.

BRIDGET FLAHERTY
Methodist Mansfield Medical Center
Bridget Flaherty is more than a leader—she’s a visionary, a mentor, and a driving force in healthcare. For over 30 years, she has poured her heart into building programs, recruiting top physicians, and ensuring that every patient at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center receives the highest quality care. But her story isn’t just about career success—it’s about grit, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference.
FROM SMALL-TOWN ROOTS TO BIG-TIME IMPACT
Growing up in Center, Texas, Bridget learned the values of hard work and perseverance. As the first in her family to attend college, she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Stephen F. Austin State University— an achievement that set the foundation for her future.
Her journey with Methodist Health System began at Methodist Dallas Medical Center where she helped grow Generations, the Senior Access Program and then transferred to Methodist Charlton Medical Center, where she became the first Physician Liaison. When Methodist Mansfield was still just an idea, Bridget was the first employee hired to help bring it to life. She played a crucial role in recruiting the hospital’s first physicians—a number that has since grown to over 700 providers, thanks in large part to her dedication.
TRANSFORMING HEALTHCARE, ONE INNOVATION AT A TIME
Bridget doesn’t just work in healthcare— she reinvents it. Her leadership has shaped groundbreaking programs, including:
• THE PAST PRESIDENTS’ WALLS AT METHODIST CHARLTON AND METHODIST MANSFIELD, HONORING HEALTHCARE PIONEERS.
• THE SLEEP LAB, LAUNCHED IN 2009 TO ADDRESS CRITICAL SLEEP HEALTH NEEDS.
• THE BREAST CENTER, DESIGNED WITH A SPA-LIKE ATMOSPHERE AND A DEDICATED BREAST RADIOLOGIST,

ACHIEVING 99TH PERCENTILE IN PATIENT SATISFACTION.
• THE HEARTBURN TREATMENT CENTER, BRINGING TOGETHER TOP SPECIALISTS TO DIAGNOSE AND TREAT GERD.
• EXPANDING UROLOGY COVERAGE, TO ENHANCE SPECIALIZED CARE AT METHODIST MANSFIELD.
• THE AMBULATORY SURGERY CENTER, DEVELOPED BY RECRUITING TOP-TIER PHYSICIANS TO EXPAND OUTPATIENT SURGICAL CARE.
A HEART FOR FAMILY AND COMMUNITY
Despite her demanding career, Bridget’s greatest joy is her family. She and her husband Sean have been married for 34 years and raised three children together. In memory of their late daughter, she established The Kaitlyn Elise Flaherty Memorial Scholarship, awarded annually to a Midlothian High School senior pursuing a degree in education. This scholarship is more than financial support— it’s a reflection of Bridget’s deep belief in the power of education and giving back.
Outside of work, Bridget enjoys movies, gardening, photography, pickleball, and, most of all, time with loved ones. Her ability to balance a thriving career with a rich
personal life is a testament to her resilience and passion for living.
A WOMAN WHO MAKES THINGS HAPPEN
Bridget Flaherty is the kind of person who doesn’t just dream—she delivers. Whether she’s shaping the future of healthcare, mentoring the next generation, or ensuring that every patient feels valued, she leads with heart and vision.
“Bridget’s impact on Methodist Mansfield and the entire community is immeasurable,” says Juan Fresquez Jr., President of Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. “Her passion for healthcare, her dedication to our physicians and staff, and her unwavering commitment to patient care make her a true cornerstone of our hospital.”

TERRI BAUER
Mansfield Family Dentistry
BY MEREDITH KNIGHT
For Terri Bauer, “thank you” doesn’t seem like a strong enough sentiment. For 40 years, she’s been blessed to work alongside her husband, Dr. John Bauer, and alongside their son, Dr. Cody Bauer, for the last 16. Together, they’ve been humbled to be a part of so many Mansfield families, amazing folks who shared their lives—good times and bad—with her family and trusted them with their precious oral health.
Forty years ago, when she and Dr. John opened their family practice, dentistry was primarily corrective, concentrated on fillings and tooth extractions. Together, they helped pioneer the shift toward prevention and education in dentistry. They became true healthcare partners with many Mansfield families, educating them about the links between oral health and the health of the whole body and empowering them to take wellness into their own hands.
Mansfield Family Dentistry grew through word of mouth, as one patient told another and another and elected the Bauers “Best Family Dentist” year after year. “Our favorite way to grow has been watching our youngest patients grow up, get married, then bring their own kids to us,” Terri said. “It’s been an indescribable blessing to watch amazing kids turn into amazing adults who have trusted us to care for their greatest blessing—their children.” The Bauers have also been humbled to have patients moved away, but arrange their schedule around returning to Mansfield for biannual visits to Mansfield Family Dentistry.
As Terri has watched the family practice grow, she also watched her own children grow and start families of their own and watched Mansfield grow from a sleepy, small town to a booming metropolis (that happily retains its smalltown heart). Now, as Dr. John retires to enjoy a well-earned retirement, she’s excited about the next chapter in the history of Mansfield Family Dentistry. She’ll continue to keep the office running like a well-oiled machine and enjoying the many longtime relationships with patients and

staff as Dr. Cody steps into his father’s shoes as sole dentist.
“John and I couldn’t be prouder of Cody,” Terri said. “He has a wonderful rapport with patients of all ages, and he’s really brought the practice up to date with amazing dental technology.

On behalf of the families of Mansfield, we’d like to say “thank you” to Terri and Dr. John for four decades of selfless service and friendship and look forward to continuing that relationship with Dr. Cody at the helm. Find out more and book an appointment at MansfieldDentistry.com.

EMILY BEYER
Old Vine Texas
BY MEREDITH KNIGHT
Emily Beyer is many things. She’s a wife and mother. She’s a wine lover and business owner. She’s a liaison between Texas wineries and those she introduces to their products. She’s a Christian and a proud Texan transplant. But even she is surprised by how all these aspects of her life have come together at Old Vine Texas.
In her own words. “I’ve always loved wine. As a young adult, I had the opportunity to attend a private wine tasting that opened my eyes to the possibilities of wine/food pairings. My life took me to several wine regions, including Napa, Sonoma, Rogue Valley, Willamette Valley, Niagara, and finally Texas, exploring the different varieties and characteristics of our local wineries. After relocating to Texas, I fell in love with these beautiful wines and the Texas expression of the different grape varietals. My husband and I were inspired to bring all that lovely wine to the DFW area so others could share the Texas wine experience without having to drive so far to get it. Old Vine Texas was born.” It took two and a half years for Erik and Emily to realize their dream, and they’ll be celebrating their first anniversary this June.
In that short time, they’ve welcomed many guests in their 100% Texas wine tasting room, hosted lots of live music, sourdough making classes, and private parties. “Our vision is to bring a level of class to Mansfield through celebrating Texas wines,” Emily said. “We’ve been overwhelmed by the response from the community.”
The Old Vine Texas model is unique because they buy the wine directly from the wineries, assuring they can serve the best possible product. For Emily, it’s a true labor of love. “The Texas wine industry is full of hardworking people, and I’m proud to be a part of it,” she said. “I’m continually inspired by the many Texas farmers and winemakers I meet. I love helping people, sharing experiences, and working hard to succeed. Old Vine Texas has allowed us to

do all that and more. From the beginning we were determined to put God first in our business, our family, and our marriage and He has certainly blessed that decision and, through our success, allowed us to bless others.”
When not on the job, Emily is a devoted wife and mother to a blended family of six kids. She loves that she’s able to live, work, and raise her family in the Mansfield community. “We want to help Mansfield grow in all the right ways,” she said. “We have big plans to expand Old Vine Texas to showcase four times as many Texas wineries, among other things.” Considering what she and Erik have
accomplished in just a year, we have no doubt she’ll make that happen. See upcoming events at OldVineTexas.com.

DR. ANNA TOKER
GUTCHECK
BY MEREDITH KNIGHT
Dr. Anna Toker is a busy lady. But that’s nothing new. Not only is she a leading colorectal surgeon with a thriving practice, but her passion for holistic gut health has led her to establish GUTCHECK, a step-by-step plan for resetting the gut, reclaiming energy, and feeling your best—at any age—without complicated diets or guesswork.
If that wasn’t enough, Dr. Toker has answered the call to serve on medical boards including the board for Superpatch, a physical therapy device for targeted symptomatic relief without medication or side effects. (Find out more at Aptex.Superpatch.com.) She also continues to serve on the board for the wellness company, PFC3, and as national spokesperson for Zive 7, a dietary supplement she helped design specifically for IBS sufferers. (Find out more at ShopZive.com.)
One position Dr. Toker holds dear is that of Health Commissioner for Ellis County. She also agreed to serve as interim medical director of The Heights in Midlothian (TheHeightsEllisCounty.org). And she’s currently looking for volunteers for a research study regarding balance and fall prevention utilizing Superpatch.
“Anyone who’s interested can email me at DrToker.Office@gmail.com,” Dr. Toker said. “Participants will get free access to our online Gut Check program (100 individual concepts on digestive health with diet, supplement, and behavioral tips).” The date of the study is currently pending as Dr. Toker vets volunteers. And while she’s got her finger in all of these pies, she has joined her practice to Methodist Medical Group for easier patient access.
“I know that sounds like a lot,” Dr. Toker said. “It is! But my passion for gut health drives me. Our gut controls our digestion, energy, mood, and immunity. When it’s off balance, it can leave you feeling tired, bloated, and stuck. Patients come to me experiencing fatigue, brain fog, mood swings, bloating, digestive discomfort, and weight struggles, all of which can be traced back to an unhealthy gut.”

JIYOUNG JUNG, DDS, FAGD
Central Park Dental & Orthodontics
BY MEREDITH KNIGHT
We all need a wellness advocate. Patients of Central Park Dental & Orthodontics have just that in Dr. Jiyoung Jung. This dynamic family dentist firmly believes that wellness begins with a healthy mouth. “There’s a profound connection between oral health and overall wellness,” she said. That’s why she goes far beyond general dentistry including specialized treatment for sleep, airway, TMJ/ TMD, and head and neck pain.
Her fascination with the teeth/body connection led Dr. Jung to focus her training on craniofacial structure and whole body treatment. Beyond basic dentistry, she routinely conducts comprehensive exams on every patient including screening for oral cancer, gum disease, cavities, TMD, sleep/breathing disorders, tongue-tie, facial symmetry, head and neck pain, and postural misalignment. Thorough exams help her create a personalized treatment plan for each specific patient.
Dr. Jung takes seriously her role as educator spending time talking to patients about the importance of prevention and early intervention. (Scan the QR code at the end of this story to hear Dr. Jung’s TEDxTalk “Teeth are a Gateway to your Well-Being”.)
“I look at the teeth as a part of the brain,” she said. “Their function goes far beyond chewing and talking. Good oral hygiene has been unequivocally linked to a decrease in the risk of many serious diseases including heart disease, Alzheimer’s, stroke, and some forms of cancer.”
When indicated, Dr. Jung works collaboratively with chiropractors, physical therapists, sleep physicians, myofunctional therapists, and nutritionists to address the root causes of disease she’s identifying in a patient’s mouth. If a child is suffering from ADHD, bed-wetting, and difficulty in school for instance, she advocates for evaluating their sleep and airway to see if the problem may be sleep related, in hopes of helping them without medication.

– JIYOUNG JUNG, DDS FAGD
Dr. Jung has equipped Central Park Dental & Orthodontics with the latest advancing technology including grade-4 advanced dental lasers, 3D cone beam CT, digital X-rays, and the latest digital scanners. “These technologies help me provide accurate diagnosis and non-invasive and revolutionary treatment,” she said. Together with her dedicated team, she’s worked to make her office a calming place patients look forward to visiting.
MEET THIS LEADING WOMAN
Jiyoung Jung was born and raised in South Korea, graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry, now known as the Texas A&M College of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and was recognized with the Merritt-Parks Award, and completed a residency in Advanced Education for General Dentistry (AEGD) where she studied advanced gum surgery, dental implants, full-mouth esthetic makeovers, and advanced root-canal treatments. She relocated Central Park Dental from Arlington to Mansfield in 2024. When
not advocating for her patients’ oral health, Dr. Jung and her husband of 31 years run a small group at their church. She’s the author of two soon-to-be-released books and has spoken before the United Nations. When not on the job, Dr. Jung loves spending time with family, especially her two granddaughters. "My life's goal is to love God, serve the people of God, and create a better world for the next generation,” she said.

Risk Management
WHAT WOMEN NEED TO KNOW ABOUT STROKES

Cardiovascular disease, including stroke, is the leading cause of death among women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and 1 in 5 women will have a stroke. However, a large majority of strokes can be prevented.
Start managing your stroke risk with these tips from the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association:
MONITOR YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE
The first step to reduce your stroke risk is to know your blood pressure and keep it within a healthy range. High blood pressure is the No. 1 preventable cause of stroke, according to the American Heart Association.
The best way to know your blood pressure is to have it measured at least once per year by a healthcare professional, regularly monitor it at home and then discuss the numbers with a doctor. For most people, normal blood pressure should be 120/80 mm HG or less. In addition to properly monitoring blood pressure, maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active, eating healthfully and reducing or eliminating alcohol and tobacco usage can help control blood pressure. If you do develop high blood pressure,
work with a healthcare professional on a plan to help manage it.
PLAN FOR PREGNANCY
In the United States, high blood pressure during pregnancy is becoming more common, according to the CDC, and medical conditions, including preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and blood clots during pregnancy, all increase stroke risk during and immediately following a pregnancy.
Managing conditions like high blood pressure before getting pregnant helps keep you and your baby healthy during pregnancy and beyond.
TAKE CARE OF YOUR MENTAL HEALTH
Some stress is unavoidable, but constant stress is not healthy. Chronic or constant stress may lead to high blood pressure and other unhealthy behavior choices, which can increase the risk of stroke.
Based on findings in a Stress in America 2020 survey conducted by the American Psychological Association, the top sources of stress are money, work, family responsibilities, and health concerns. Managing your stress and blood pressure can improve your overall health and well-being.
LEARN THE WARNING SIGNS
A stroke can happen to anyone at any point in life. Immediate treatment may help minimize the long-term effects of a stroke and even prevent death. Learn how to spot a stroke F.A.S.T:
Face Drooping – Does one side of the face droop or is it numb? Ask the person to smile. Is the person’s smile uneven?
Arm Weakness – Is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
Speech Difficulty – Is speech slurred? Is the person unable to speak or hard to understand? Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence like “The sky is blue.”
Time to call 911 – If someone shows any of these symptoms, even if the symptoms go away, call 911 and get to a hospital immediately. Check the time so you’ll know when the first symptoms appeared.

BEAUTY BOOST
FIVE SURPRISING TRENDS TAKING OVER THE BEAUTY WORLD
BY ANNETTE BROOKS
The skincare industry is evolving at lightning speed, and 2025 is bringing some exciting trends that are shaking up our beauty routines. From fermented skincare to high-tech tools, today’s skincare innovations are more effective, sustainable, and science-backed than ever. Whether you’re looking to simplify your routine, embrace sustainability, or integrate cutting-edge beauty technology, 2025’s skincare innovations offer something for everyone.
1. 2. 5. 3. 4.
Fermented Skincare: The New Probiotic Revolution
Fermented foods like kimchi and kombucha have long been celebrated for their gut-health benefits, but did you know that fermentation is now making its way into skincare?
Fermented skincare products contain naturally derived probiotics that help balance the skin’s microbiome, reducing inflammation and strengthening the skin barrier. The fermentation process also increases the potency of active ingredients, allowing them to penetrate the skin more effectively. Look for brands offering probiotic-infused serums, masks, and moisturizers that promise to calm sensitive skin and boost hydration levels.
Solid Skincare Bars: Sustainability Meets Simplicity
Move over liquid cleansers and serums. Solid skincare bars are gaining popularity. These compact, water-free formulations not only reduce plastic waste but also provide highly concentrated active ingredients. From cleansing bars enriched with vitamin C to solid moisturizers packed with ceramides, these eco-friendly alternatives are proving to be both effective and convenient for travel.
Biohacking Your Skin: The Future of Personalization
Personalized skincare is reaching new heights with the rise of biohacking. By using DNA testing, microbiome analysis, and AI-driven diagnostics, companies can now create skincare products tailored to your skin’s unique needs. Consumers are increasingly turning to at-home skin monitoring devices and personalized serums that adapt to environmental factors, ensuring a fully customized approach to beauty. This cuttingedge trend redefines skincare routines by making them more targeted and data-driven.
Red Light Therapy Masks: A High-Tech Solution for Skin
Medical-grade light therapy masks are elevating med spa offerings. These cutting-edge LED masks, powered by blue, red, green, amber, or near-infrared light, stimulate collagen, diminish fine lines, address pigmentation issues, tackle acne, and enhance skin texture—delivering noticeable results. A favorite among skincare pros, these high-tech tools are transforming med spa experiences, giving clients that coveted radiant glow with every session.
Skin Cycling: The Art of Alternating Products
Overloading the skin with too many actives can lead to irritation, which is why many dermatologists advocate for “skin cycling.” This method involves using exfoliants and retinoids on specific days, followed by recovery days with hydrating and soothing ingredients. By allowing the skin time to recover, this approach enhances the efficacy of active ingredients while preventing over-exfoliation and sensitivity.

The Wonderful World of Wallpaper
ADD SOME WHIMSY TO YOUR HOME WITH THIS DELIGHTFUL
DESIGN ELEMENT
BY KIM ARMSTRONG
Wallpaper is having a serious moment in interior design. No longer just a relic of the past, today’s wallpaper offers endless possibilities to bring personality, texture, and depth to any space. From bold prints to delicate textures, the right wallpaper can transform an entire room. Let’s explore some of the most unexpected and stunning ways to incorporate wallpaper into your home.
DINING ROOMS
Elevate your dining experience by adding wallpaper to this often-overlooked space. Whether you go for a textured grasscloth, an elegant damask, or a modern geometric pattern, wallpaper can really add drama to a dining room.
CEILINGS
Adding wallpaper to the ceiling creates an unexpected wow factor.
ENTRYWAYS & HALLWAYS
First impressions matter, and wallpaper can make a dramatic statement in an entryway or hallway.

POWDER ROOMS
Powder rooms are the perfect place to experiment with daring wallpaper choices. Since these spaces are smaller and less frequently used, they’re a great place to play with bold patterns or rich colors that might feel overwhelming in larger rooms. Think oversized florals, moody metallics, or even whimsical designs for a statement-making impact. This floral wallpaper really shines with the coral vanity and white walls.
LAUNDRY ROOMS, CLOSETS, AND PANTRIES
As I said, wallpaper can go everywhere, and laundry rooms, closets, and pantries are a fun place to add something whimsical.
BEHIND BOOKSHELVES AND CABINETS
Add a layer of personality to built-ins by lining the backs of shelves with wallpaper. This creates depth, contrast, and a designer-approved touch of sophistication.
CHILDREN’S BEDROOMS
Wallpaper adds personality and playfulness to a child’s room, transforming it into a magical space. Bold patterns, whimsical illustrations, or nature-inspired designs can spark creativity and imagination.
THE DOS AND DON’TS OF WALLPAPER
Do:
Test Samples First: Order swatches and test them in different lighting conditions before committing.
Consider Scale: Large patterns work well in spacious areas, while smaller patterns are ideal for tight spaces.
Go Bold in Small Spaces: Powder rooms, closets, and alcoves are perfect spots to embrace daring designs.
Pair with Paint: If wallpapering an entire room feels overwhelming, try a feature wall combined with a coordinating paint color.
Use Removable Wallpaper: If you’re renting or prone to changing your mind, peel-andstick wallpaper is a game-changer.
Don’t:
Ignore Texture: Some wallpapers, like grasscloth or linen weaves, add dimension that flat paint simply can’t achieve.
Overwhelm the Space: Balance bold patterns with solid colors in furniture and accessories to avoid visual chaos.
Skimp on Prep Work: Properly priming walls ensures wallpaper adheres smoothly and can be removed cleanly when it’s time for a change.
I hope this inspires you to take the leap if you’ve been uncertain about using wallpaper. The personality it brings to your home is sure to fi ll your space with joy.

Check out longtime favorites like Crazy Crab for crab legs with a water view or Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks for fresh oysters. Pair your meal with chilled wine and toast to an amazing trip.
DAY 3: ADVENTURES AND RETAIL THERAPY
Start your morning kayaking or paddleboarding on Skull Creek, where you might spot dolphins and herons. Prefer a slower pace? Opt for a guided nature tour or boat ride through marshlands to view wildlife like osprey or stingrays.
Next, enjoy a leisurely lunch at Lowcountry Produce Market & Café, which is famous for its pimento cheese sandwich and tomato pie. Then, dive into retail therapy. Explore Coligny Plaza, Shelter Cove Towne Centre, and The Village at Wexford for coastal-inspired treasures, local gems, and chic finds.
Wrap up the day with a sunset boat cruise to witness Hilton Head’s golden-hour skies. The views are Insta-worthy, and the memories — priceless.
DAY 4: EXPLORATION AND SPA TIME
After breakfast, rent bikes to explore the island’s 60+ miles of paved trails. Pedal through lush landscapes and visit Harbour Town with its iconic red-and-white lighthouse and charming shops. Then, get pampered at one of Hilton Head’s luxury spas. Indulge in a massage, facial, body wrap, or Reiki session to rejuvenate your senses and promote relaxation.
Finish your day with a final stroll on the beach after dinner. Reflect on the laughter, shared sunsets, and strengthened bonds from your getaway.

Day Trip to Historic Savannah
Hilton Head Island is a serene coastal getaway, but just a short 45-minute drive away lies Savannah, Georgia, a city brimming with Southern charm, history, and a culture all its own. It’s the perfect complement to Hilton Head’s laid-back vibe.
Start by exploring Savannah’s historic squares, each lined with centuries-old oak trees draped in Spanish moss. Don’t miss Forsyth Park, a picturesque spot for photos or a leisurely stroll. Dive into the city’s storied past with a visit to landmarks like the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist or the Mercer-Williams House.
For lunch, savor authentic Southern cuisine at one of Savannah’s renowned restaurants, such as The Olde Pink House or Mrs. Wilkes’ Dining Room. If you’re there on a Sunday, try the Grey Restaurant for brunch. End the day shopping along River Street or taking a scenic riverboat cruise before returning to Hilton Head’s tranquil shores.
