Pupils take part in school assemblies The start of another spring term and its once again all go at PBA. This summer term is the first time in the history of the school that we will have reached this point without some direct impact of COVID. Obviously, there are still issues to address but for a school that has been punctuated by lockdowns, bubbles, vaccinations, absence and a whole host of other “difficulties” , to have reached this point in the year with the school operating as it was designed, is fantastic and the fact that we are doing so in such a positive way is a testament to our pupils and staff.

The summer term is a great time to be in school. Our PE department continue to offer a whole host of extra-curricular activities, all of which are superbly attended by our pupils. It has been particularly pleasing to see the development of two pupils who are representing the local community on the youth parliament. They are the youngest members and have already undertaken assemblies at school and attended meetings at the council on Saturday mornings.

It has been exciting to plan for next September. A large number of new pupils will be joining the school and to see the school grow from 51 pupils in September 2019 to approaching 600 in September 2022 will be fantastic. It is also a relief to have received clarity from the local authority about the changes in age range for the schools in the Stotfold and Shefford area. For PBA this means we will continue to have Year 5 as our intake year until 2025. Beyond that point we will transition to a secondary school.

Any change of this scale is not straightforward and for PBA perhaps more so. Over the last two years we have moved into a new building, battled through a pandemic, grown in size hugely and now prepare to transition to a secondary school.

Any one of these on its own is challenging, to have these one after another has kept us all busy. What has been gratifying is that with the commitment of staff, enthusiasm of pupils and support of parents we have managed these changes well.

Our mission: to educate the socially responsible citizens of the future continues to inspire our work. Working with young people, trying to help them make sense of what can appear to a child (and perhaps an adult) a frightening world is at the foundation of all we do.

We now look to the rest of the term to prepare these young people for their futures. We know this is about education in its broadest sense and will continue to help them in that journey.
