Warren A. Jennings, Sr. of DeWitt, Arkansas, departed this life August 11, 2017. Born May 14, 1940, in Washington, D.C. where his father was stationed during the war. He was the son of the late Larkin Hamilton Jennings, Jr. and Mary Wallis Arthur Jennings of Union, South Carolina.
Mr. Jennings was a graduate of Georgia Military Academy, the Citadel in 1962 and from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1965. He practiced law with his father in Union, South Carolina, for four years before moving to DeWitt. Mr. Jennings served as President, Chairman of the Board and Director of Arkansas County Bank in DeWitt and on the Governor’s Task Force to revise the Arkansas State Banking Code. At the time of death he was a member of the DeWitt Rotary Club, where he was named a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award, Chamber of Commerce, President of the Arkansas County 4-H Foundation, served on the Phillips County College/UA DeWitt Foundation Board and was a former member of the DeWitt Hospital and Nursing Home Board. “It would be impossible to name everything he did for the City of DeWitt and surrounding area” is a quote from the DeWitt Era-Enterprise in February 2014 when he was chosen as DeWitt’s “Citizen of the Year.” Warren was known to always participate to the maximum effort and without credit for his efforts. Mr. Jennings was predeceased by his father, mother, a sister, and a brother. He is survived by his wife, Mary McKinley Jennings, a son Warren A. Jennings, Jr. of DeWitt, a daughter, Mary Jean Jennings Johnston of Memphis, Tennessee; and six grandchildren, Carole Frances Jennings, Sara Wallis Jennings, Robert McKnight Johnston III, Warren Arthur Johnston, Mary Asher Johnston and Ann Grier Johnston.
