«1989 » Afin d’héberger la collection croissante d’œuvres d’art du canton de Vaud, la décision a été prise de réaffecter un ancien site de stockage en espaces d’archive et d’exposition. Ces deux programmes ayant des besoins différents, le mur central préexistant devient alors séparation entre ces deux entités, permettant de les traiter indépendamment. D’un côté, les archives, dévolues à la protection des documents, sont organisées dans un souci d’optimisation, de flexibilité et sont protégées de la lumière. De l’autre, les espaces d’exposition sont généreux et éclairés indirectement. Le mur central s’épaissit pour accueillir les services, les espaces de consultation et les circulations verticales permettant une promenade continue à travers les expositions. Les espaces de consultation s’organisent de bas en haut selon un gradient d’intimité : les espaces individuels en bas et les espaces de travail collectif en haut. De plus, à une extrémité du bâtiment, de grandes salles de consultation permettent l’étude des grands formats ; à l’autre extrémité, de plus petits espaces de consultation s’alternent en coupe avec les espaces annexes des expositions.

In order to host the ever-growing artwork collection of the canton de Vaud, the decision was made to transform an old storage site into spaces for hosting archives and exhibition. Because the two programs have different needs, the preexisting central wall becomes the separation between these two entities, allowing one to address them independently. On the one hand, the archives, concerned with the protection of documents, are organized by bearing in mind optimization, flexibility and protection from light. On the other, the exhibition spaces are generous and lit indirectly. The central wall gets thicker in order to host the amenities, the consultation spaces, and the vertical circulations that allow for a continuous promenade through the exhibitions. The consultation areas are organized from the bottom-up according to the level of intimacy: the individual spaces are located at the bottom and the collective workspaces at the top. Moreover, at one end of the building, big consultation rooms allow the study of large pieces of artwork, while at the other end smaller consultation spaces alternate with the exhibition rooms’ annexes.
