EDUCATING HEARTS AND MINDS IN THE HOLY CROSS TRADITION

We are a Catholic high school in the Holy Cross tradition. We celebrate our diversity, value each person, and welcome one another with the hospitality of Christ.
As a family of learners, anchored in gospel values, we empower each other to grow spiritually, develop intellectually and reach out in service to others.
Within an innovative and orderly learning environment we are committed to challenging each student in both heart and mind to be a compassionate individual, a lifelong learner, and a responsible steward of God’s creation.
The quality which defines the students of a Holy Cross education heritage is the training of the hearts as well as the minds.
Built on a promise to empower the heart and mind, Archbishop Hoban High School nurtures the smallest spark of passion into a lifetime of success. With an inclusive, family-oriented environment, you will receive an education grounded in faith, service and innovation creating an experience that is True to You.
Hoban is sponsored by the Brothers of Holy Cross, the first order of teaching brothers established in the United States. The Holy Cross educational tradition in this country dates from the founding of the University of Notre Dame in 1842.
Archaeology is a senior-level course designed to spark students’ appreciation and deepen their understanding of historical events. Students learn how to perform archaeological excavations. Last year, students performed a historical graveyard dig to verify and mark the locations of graves in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Moreland Historical Society.
The new CREATE Studios houses Hoban’s 17 visual and digital art courses o ered to students of all skill levels. Year after year, students produce outstanding works of art that are recognized locally, regionally and nationally. With the addition of CREATE Studios, students receive the hands-on instruction in a state-of-the-art facility that provides the tools needed to explore the arts and personal expression as growing artists with arms-length access to industry professionals.
Pre-engineering I provides students with exposure to four primary disciplines of engineering: chemical, civil, electrical and mechanical. Pre-engineering II introduces students to the tools of engineering. Pre-engineering III is an independent study course that matches students to a sponsor company that exposes a student to a meaningful, hands-on, engineering experience.
The Center for Sustainability o ers an experiential learning opportunity in which students apply knowledge learned in environmental science, bioethics and public health to real-world scenarios while working and volunteering at Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The public health course investigates how societies can work to improve the health of the community as a whole by preventing disease. Bioethics investigates the increasing importance of applying an ethical framework to societies advancing in science and technology. Students enrolled in the Center for Sustainability identify the intersections between those two courses and environmental science. The Center for Sustainability is a way to provide experiential learning opportunities to learn and practice living out our calling as Catholics to take care of each other and our planet.
Hoban welcomes a diverse community of learners who are ready to ignite their future. Each student enters with unique abilities, gifts and challenges to overcome. As Holy Cross educators, we help each student light their path, pursue it with blazing zeal and stay true to who they are.
Educational options at Hoban include Fine Arts Mentorship, Credit Flexibility and College Credit Plus courses available through local colleges and universities.

Campus Ministry provides faith formation and support to students of all religious backgrounds as a way to nurture and fuel their faith beyond the classroom setting. Students can become involved in Campus Ministry by joining a leadership team to help plan various faith-based activities. The Campus Ministry O ce serves three major functions —liturgy, retreats and Christian service—to complement the theology curriculum.
As a Catholic high school, the entire school family gathers for Mass at key times of the year. Morning Mass is celebrated every week and is open to all students and Holy Cross educators. Prayer services are held throughout the year. Students are encouraged to be involved in Christian Ministry by serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and leading the school in daily prayer.
Campus Ministry and the theology department o er retreat programs for all grade levels to help students create an experience that is true to them. In addition to the required annual class days of reflection, optional retreats are available.
