The recent escalation of tariff disputes has given rise to a new, often unconventional approach to online trade negotiations—one that has taken many nations by surprise and forced a re-evaluation of global economic dynamics. While the direct impact on the Arab countries may be relatively limited, it nonetheless presents an opportunity as the Arab region dominates energy trade and controls 12% of global maritime traffic. By leveraging their resources and fostering regional trade partnerships, they can transform this disruption into a catalyst for growth across multiple sectors.
In this context, we are proud to present the 2nd Arab-Hellenic Maritime Conference, held under the theme “Cooperation Among Sea Neighbours.” This event builds on the strong foundation of our inaugural conference, which was met with enthusiasm and featured robust participation from officials and industry professionals alike.
Greece, with its longstanding maritime tradition and leadership in global shipping, continues to set an example. The country has made significant advancements in port infrastructure and associated services—efforts that resonate with the maritime ambitions of the Arab world. Situated at a pivotal junction connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe, many Arab nations have begun capitalizing on their geographic advantage, investing in modern port facilities and expanding commercial fleets. As a result, several are emerging as competitive players on the international maritime stage.
We anticipate even greater success for this year’s Conference, both in scope and participation. The strong support from Greek governmental bodies— namely the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Maritime and Insular Policy, and Development—as well as endorsements from the Union of Arab Chambers and the Federation of GCC Chambers, is both encouraging and deeply appreciated.
As we look ahead to welcoming you on June 25–26 at the Divani Caravel Hotel in Athens, we are also pleased to share that two business missions are planned for this year: one in September and another in early December. As always, our annual flagship event, the 14th Arab-Hellenic Economic Forum is set for 26-27 November. We hope you will consider joining us for these valuable opportunities.
We look forward to seeing you in June.

Under the Auspices:
General Outlook:
The Arab-Hellenic Chamber will convene the "2nd Arab-Hellenic Maritime Conference" on June 25-26, 2025, in Athens, Greece. This event builds on the success of the inaugural conference held in July 2023, which brought together distinguished executives and government officials from Greece and the Arab world.
The Arab countries are situated in a pivotal location in the international sea routes. This geographical position as well as their predominance as an exporter of energy and other natural resources, mobilized some Arab countries to advance their status in all maritime sectors, increasing the number of their fleet, modernizing their ports, and improving related services. These countries have thus made significant strides to reach the pinnacle of their standing in the maritime sector.
Greece has been a sea power since ancient times, boasting the longest coastline in the Mediterranean and the third longest in Europe. Shipping has always been intertwined with Hellenic civilization, serving as a source of wealth and pride for the Greek people. Today, Greece owns and controls over 5.200 ships, representing 21% of the global merchant fleet, contributing 8% to the country’s GDP. Greece continues to maintain and enhance its status in the maritime sector and plans to revitalize its shipbuilding, repair, and maintenance industries, which will transform Greece into a shipbuilding hub while providing significant investment opportunities in its various ports.
The strength of the Arab-Hellenic Chamber derives from its privilege of being the sole representative of all Arab Federations and Chambers of Commerce in Greece. Because of this distinction, the Chamber has been able to effectively play a significant role in opening and strengthening channels of communication between Greek and Arab businessmen in order to explore potential for cooperation, investment, and trade in all business sectors.
Participation:
The Arab-Hellenic Chamber’s events are known for the good level of organization, selective focal points and sectors and the high level of participation. The sessions and deliberations of this Conference will be addressed by top CEOs and decision-makers, stakeholders in maritime and its various subsectors, along with some distinguished official representatives from Greece and the Arab world.
Sectors and Key Focus Areas:
Recognizing the diverse scope of maritime business activities and their close links to other sectors, the conference will explore in its sessions and deliberations and business meetings relevant issues to the maritime industry, ports infrastructure and services, shipbuilding yards and maintenance, supply chain and logistics, energy and environmental impact, facilitation of industrial and free zones and latest developments and trends in the maritime industries.

The Suez Canal Authority has successfully completed the Suez Canal Southern Sector Development Project, including expansion and duplication, and operating it to serve the global trade. This is part of the ongoing development plan for the waterway, aimed at keeping pace with the current developments in the maritime transport industry and the international shipping community, as well as increasing the level of efficiency and safety in the Suez Canal. The project includes a 10-km duplication in the area from km 122 to km 123, extending the length of the New Suez Canal to 82 km instead of 72 km. The project also includes the expansion and deepening of the southern sector of the Suez Canal, starting from km 132 to km 162, with a width of 40 meters to the east and from a depth of 66 to 72 feet. The project achieves a number of navigational advantages, most notable of which is a 28% increase in the navigational safety factor, a reduction in the effects of water currents on transiting vessels, in addition to increasing the Canal's capacity by 6 to 8 vessels daily, receiving vessels that had not previously crossed the Canal.
Following the 2021 Ever Given incident, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) assured the global maritime
community that such disruptions would not recur. What concrete measures has the Authority implemented to enhance navigational safety and prevent similar incidents in the future?
The Suez Canal Authority is striving to achieve the highest levels of maritime safety and security in the waterway, which boasts a low incidents rate compared to the number of transiting vessels. This is achieved by having its team of pilots and sailors undergo intensive training and simulation programs for any emergency that may occur to vessels during their transit through the Canal. In addition, SCA has developed a fleet of marine units, including tugs accompanying ships and pilot boats, with 23 different marine units joining the waterway during the past period. The waterway has also been equipped with the latest surveillance technology to monitor and track vessels during its transit voyage, in addition to providing all possible support.
At the same time, the Suez Canal has been developing maritime services and introducing previously unavailable services, such as marine salvage for transiting vessels. It has also signed a contract to build two 190-ton bollard pull salvage tugboats for maritime salvage and potential emergency situations such as groundings and other emergency breakdowns. The development of the
SPECIAL INTERVIEW
Southern sector of the Canal, as previously mentioned, has led to a 28% improvement in navigational safety and an increase in the number of vessels due to duplication, with an average of 6 to 8 vessels per day. SCA new maritime services also include crew change service, pollution control, bunkering, ship repair, and marine ambulance.
Looking ahead, the SCA has outlined a strategic vision to transform the Suez Canal into a "Green Canal" by 2030, aligning with Egypt’s broader sustainability goals. Could you elaborate on what this initiative entails and the key steps being taken to achieve it?
The role of Suez Canal is highly significant. The Suez Canal places the environmental dimension at the forefront of its priorities, based on its vital role in ensuring the stability of global supply chains. It constantly strives to maximize its role by adopting an initiative to declare the Suez Canal a “Green Canal” by 2030. This is in line with the Egyptian state’s efforts to achieve sustainable development through a clean, environmentally friendly economy, as well as the efforts of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to reduce emissions from the shipping sector, encouraging the use of clean, carbon-neutral fuels instead of fossil fuels. The Suez Canal has taken numerous measures in the framework of its strategy to declare the Suez Canal as a “Green Canal.” SCA has already begun operating 16 pilot stations along the waterway on a hybrid power system (solar and wind energy) instead of conventional energy. It is also working to build environmentally friendly marine units. Through the Misr Tugboats Factory, as it has already built two AZM tugs, which are among the pioneers of environmentally friendly marine units and feature key machinery that enables them to reduce harmful carbon emissions. These tugs are among 10 marine tugs to be built for the Suez Canal Authority. Furthermore, SCA has worked to convert its fleet of vehicles to run on gas instead of fossil fuels. We have already converted the vehicles of marine pilots working at the Canal to run on natural gas.
Moreover, the Suez Canal saved approximately 55 million tons of carbon emissions and 16 million tons of fuel from 2015 to 2023 for the vessels transiting the Canal, the shortest alternative route to the Cape of Good Hope. The most significant event in recent days was the Suez Canal Authority's launch, in the presence of His Excellency Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, of a service to collect solid waste from vessels transiting through the Suez Canal. ANTIPOLLUTION EGYPT Company was established in partnership with the leading Greek V Group. The service will later be supplemented by the collection of liquid waste and the construction of a plant to convert waste into alternative fuel.
A significant milestone was reached on March 19, 2025, with the signing of an agreement between the SCA and Antipollution Egypt, a subsidiary of Greece’s V Group. This partnership will introduce environmentally friendly logistical services, including solid and liquid waste management. How do you envision this agreement contributing to the Green Canal initiative?
Interview with Vyron Vasileiadis, Founder & Chairman of V Group of Companies
Vyron Vasileiadis: A Visionary Entrepreneur with Core Principles
In this issue, we are proud to have with us Vyron Vasileiadis, Chairman of V Group of Companies, and dear friend of our Chamber, to discuss his Group’s achievements, major milestones and, of course, the significant deal his company, Antipollution Egypt, managed to close with the Suez Canal Authority, to provide Port Reception Facilities and environmental services to all vessels passing through the Suez Canal. It was a long-time coming deal, and Mr. Vasileiadis is sharing with us his business endeavors and his environmental and social concerns.
V Group of Companies is recognized for its cuttingedge solutions, reliability, and commitment to environmental sustainability. Your leadership has positioned V Group of Companies as a pioneer in innovation and environmental responsibility, both in Greece and internationally. Could you share with us the key milestones of your entrepreneurial journey and the philosophy that has guided you to this point?
Thank you — I truly appreciate that. My journey with V Group of Companies began with a clear vision: to bring innovation and environmental integrity to industries that needed it most — both onshore and offshore. One of our early milestones was recognizing that the future of these sectors had to be greener, smarter and more integrated. We invested in state-of-the-art infrastructure, established presence in all key ports of Greece and expanded our footprint internationally — most notably in Egypt with the launch of Antipollution Egypt, aligned with the Suez Canal’s green transition.
I’ve always believed that leadership is not about control — it’s about building trust. And that’s something my team and me personally, try to bring into every aspect of our work, whether it’s with our partners, our teams, or the communities we serve.
Could you elaborate on the specific initiatives and technologies your company employs to drive sustainability across its operations?
Of course. Sustainability isn’t a checkbox for us — it’s embedded in everything we do. Our strategy is built around a clear net-zero emissions philosophy and we’ve taken concrete steps across all levels of our operations to support that, manifesting our zero waste approach to all operations.
In terms of compliance and standards, we strictly
www.arabhellenicchamber.gr
align with MARPOL regulations — not just to meet requirements, but to exceed them. As the exclusive waste management provider for vessels in key regions like the Suez Canal, we see it as our duty to set a higher bar when it comes to environmental practices at sea. Onshore, we’re transitioning our industrial facilities to run on renewable energy sources. Our plants for example, are moving toward energy autonomy through solar integration. Our new headquarters, designed with sustainability at its core, reflect our long-term commitment to green architecture, energy efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint.
A major milestone has been the launch of our ECO SUEZ I — our flagship anti-pollution vessel, designed with the latest technology to support green maritime operations. It’s a tangible symbol of how innovation and environmental protection can work hand in hand. We’re also actively investing in research and development, particularly in green technologies. Our aim is not just to adapt, but to lead — by developing new solutions that can help entire industries operate more responsibly. At the end of the day, sustainability for us means futureproofing — our business, our environment and the communities we serve.
Strategic Expansion in Egypt & the Arab Region:
One of the Group’s notable achievements is the recent agreement between Antipollution Egypt and the Egyptian Suez Canal Authority to provide Port Reception Facilities to vessels in alignment with international environmental standards. This was a significant milestone, and we understand the journey to this agreement was extensive. Could you walk us through the process, the collaboration with Egyptian authorities, and how this partnership will contribute to Egypt’s ambitious vision of transforming the Suez Canal into a Green Canal by 2030?
This agreement with the Suez Canal Authority marks a defining moment for our Group — and it didn’t happen overnight. It was the result of years of consistent dialogue, mutual trust and a shared commitment to environmental progress. Here, kindly allow me to point out the leadership of His Excellency Admiral Osama Rabie.
From the very beginning, we approached the Egyptian authorities not just as service providers, but as partners. We listened carefully to their vision for the “Green Canal by 2030” and aligned our capabilities with their strategic goals. The Suez Canal is one of the most critical maritime

just a service provider — we’re a long-term partner in environmental transformation.
What sets us apart is a combination of deep industry knowledge, operational consistency and a forwardthinking mindset. We’ve invested heavily in infrastructure, technology, and human capital to ensure we can deliver high-quality services across land, sea, and port operations — all under a unified, integrated framework. Our presence in all major Greek ports, our specialized facilities and our certified laboratories give us a level of agility and control that few can match. But beyond the infrastructure, it’s our commitment to innovation, regulatory alignment, and net-zero principles that truly differentiate us.
We don’t take shortcuts. We work closely with authorities, respect local communities, and take pride in building solutions that are both sustainable and scalable. That long-term view — paired with the ability to act quickly and responsibly — is what keeps us ahead.
Beyond waste and water management, V Group is also making significant strides in sustainable energy production. Could you shed light on your initiatives in renewable energy, and how they align with the global shift towards green energy solutions?
Absolutely. For us, the shift toward renewable energy isn’t just a trend — it’s a strategic direction that complements our core mission of environmental protection and sustainability. We’ve taken concrete steps to integrate renewable energy solutions into our operations, starting with our own facilities. Our goal is to reduce dependency on conventional energy sources and move toward energy self-sufficiency wherever possible. This includes investing in clean energy infrastructure, optimizing energy use across our plants, and gradually transitioning our operations toward net-zero emissions. These efforts align with our broader environmental philosophy and with global momentum toward decarbonization. We view energy not as a separate sector, but as an essential component of a circular and sustainable economy.
What matters most is that our renewable energy initiatives are not standalone — they are part of a comprehensive approach that connects waste management, resource recovery, and clean energy into a unified environmental strategy.
Your company and family are deeply engaged in philanthropic and social initiatives. Can you share more about V Group’s corporate social responsibility programs and the causes that are most important to you?
This is actually a part of our work that I rarely speak about — not because it’s not important, but because I’ve always believed that actions speak louder than words. For me, true responsibility isn’t something you advertise; it’s something you practice quietly, consistently, and with sincerity. What I can say is that we remain deeply committed to supporting those in need, especially in times of crisis or hardship. It’s not about visibility. It’s about showing up, doing the right thing and doing it without expecting recognition.

Enterprise Greece at the International EGYPES 2025 Exhibition Energy Cooperation between Greece and Egypt is Maturing
For another year, Enterprise Greece organized the Greek pavilion at the International Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES), held at Egypt's international exhibition center in Cairo from 17 to 19 February 2025. EGYPES is one of the most significant trade fairs in oil, natural gas, renewable energy sources, and digital transition for the energy sector. It covers the broader region of the Middle East, North Africa, and the Mediterranean, and is held under the patronage of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
This year's event spanned 39,000 square meters and featured over 500 exhibitors from 120 countries across 11 national pavilions. It attracted more than 47,000 visitors, including local and international energy companies exploring business development prospects in Egypt, North Africa, the Middle East, and the Eastern Mediterranean. Visitors also had the chance to learn about the development of new projects, the strategic priorities of energy transition and security, and economic growth in the broader Southeast Mediterranean region. During the trade fair, the Enterprise Greece delegation held a series of meetings aimed at promoting the export of products and services from the Greek energy sector and attracting new investments and business development opportunities. These initiatives are being
shaped by the country’s successful progress toward the green transition and its emergence as a regional energy hub.
Commenting on the country’s presence and the prospects in the energy sector, Enterprise Greece’s CEO, Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos, stated:
"Amid the significant changes in energy supply and security, and given the global shift towards green energy, this sector is experiencing dynamic growth. The substantial increase in the share of renewable energy sources in our energy mix, along with the ongoing upgrade of Greece’s international interconnections with neighboring countries, led to our country recording a negative balance in its international electrical interconnections for the first time in 2024, with the year closing with a surplus for the first time since 2000. This not only confirms our steady progress toward energy self-sufficiency but also signals our gradual transition into an energy exporter. Enterprise Greece will continue to support the internationalization of Greek energy companies through targeted initiatives, including B2B meetings, investor networking events, business missions, and participation in all major international trade fairs and events."
The conference segment of EGYPES 2025, themed

The Athens Medical Group was founded in 1984 by Dr. George Apostolopoulos, with the establishment of the Athens Medical Center in Marousi, aiming to provide high quality, integrated healthcare services, based on a patient – centered approach. From the first years of its operation, it became a “catalyst” of progress in Healthcare, being the first Greek medical institution to introduce state-of-the-art medical equipment and secure collaborations with distinguished scientists, thus providing services equal to those of internationally acclaimed hospitals. Through continuous investments both in Greece and abroad, it is now one of the most dynamic Healthcare organizations and reliable providers of diagnostic and hospitalization services, worldwide.
Moreover, having successfully responded to the challenges of Greece's long-term financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, the group is now charting and implementing a dynamic and outward-looking path. This includes strategic partnerships in Cyprus and Egypt, as well as participation in the global hospital network of the leading British institution Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, with the goal of maintaining its leadership position in healthcare for the coming decades. Today, in Greece, the group operates 8 state-of-the-art medical facilities. These include six facilities in the greater Athens area: the Athens Medical Center and the Pediatric Medical Center in Marousi, the Psychiko Clinic, the Paleo Faliro Clinic, the Peristeri Clinic, the Dafne Clinic, and in Thessaloniki, the European Interbalkan Medical Center and the International Oncology Center. At the same time, AMG owns and operates three diagnostic centers in Romania through its 100% subsidiary “Medsana” and is in the process of establishing a fourth Center. Overall, the Group has 1,400 high-standard hospital beds, a network of 3,000 highly qualified associate physicians, and 3,495 highly specialized full-time employees.

OLIVE TENTATION BY IOANNIS STIVAKTAS

E: olivetentation@gmail.com
In the Greece of 2022, many young people, even though they have realized the difficulties of survival, they decide to stay in their country, to study, to produce, to create income and help themselves, their families and their country! One of these young people, Ioannis Stivaktas, a graduate of the Department of Shipping at the University of Piraeus, during his studies, he read what Odysseus Elytis, the Nobel Prize-winning poet, had written: ''If you disintegrate Greece, you will see that you are left with an olive tree a vine and a boat'. which means: With the same things you can rebuild it.
The above words of the Greek poet, gave the inspiration to Ioannis Stivaktas, to decide to cultivate himself, with the help of specialized and experienced partners, the family olive grove in Vatika, Laconia. So, he created “OLIVE TENTATION”, in order to promote the extra virgin olive oil, which his family and friends have been tasting for so many years and that's how the journey began...

Greek Golden Visa: Trusted Legal Guidance by Charalampos Pontikopoulos
Greece’s Golden Visa program offers non-EU investors a five-year renewable residence permit in exchange for a qualifying investment, most commonly through real estate. With a minimum investment starting at €400,000—depending on location—the program remains one of the most competitive in Europe.
Arab investors have increasingly turned to Greece, attracted by its strategic geographic position, access to the EU and Schengen Zone, and high quality of life. The permit includes the investor’s spouse, children up to 21, and even the parents of both spouses, allowing entire families to benefit.
Importantly, the Golden Visa has no minimum stay requirement. Investors can maintain their permit while residing abroad, yet enjoy full freedom of travel within the Schengen area.
With growing Arab-Greek business relations, Greece presents not only a lifestyle opportunity but also a gateway for long-term investment and mobility in Europe. Legal expertise is key to navigating the process smoothly and securely.
