Lighted Christmas festival draws crowd to Alpha Loop By JON WILCOX jon@appenmedia.com ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Crowds braved chilly weather Dec. 12 and 13 for a weekend festival celebrating Lights on the Loop along Alpharetta’s Alpha Loop. Thousands filled a 1-mile stretch of the trail, donning jackets and cradling cups and thermoses of hot beverages.

Along the trail, colorful light displays and live musical performances pierced the gloom as families, friends and dozens of sweaterwearing dogs happily braved temperatures in the 30s. It was the second of a series of three gatherings this year for the annual Lights on the Loop.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — After months of preparation, the jail in Alpharetta is back in action. City officials marked the reopening Dec. 15 with a ribbon cutting in what had been the Fulton County North Annex Jail. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office withdrew its operation of the facility in September, leaving Alpharetta the opportunity to take back the keys of the detention center it once ran. Alpharetta ceded operation of the jail to the Sheriff’s Office 20 years ago.
Faced with long transport times to Fulton County’s downtown jail, the Alpharetta City Council decided in the fall to retake management of the jail, approving $1.6 million for eight months of operation. Following the reopening ceremony, Police Chief Trent Lindgren said he was relieved to finally see the finished product that has dominated his attention since his appointment in August. “Well, the stress level already has gone down just by having this event,” Lindgren said.
