New path inspires hope with each plank secured By JON WILCOX jon@appenmedia.com JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — The construction behind Johns Creek City Hall is starting to look less like work in progress and more like the recreational and community anchor point officials have envisioned. The Boardwalk at Town Center near Medlock Bridge at McGinnis Ferry roads, has begun to take shape in December. The massive $39 million project includes an outdoor amphitheater, pond overlooks, pedestrian plazas, trails through wetlands and terraced seating. Construction began in August 2024 and is slated for completion by summer 2026. City officials said it’s intended to serve as the heart of the walkable, 192-acre Town Center district, which also includes the under-construction mixed-use Medley center.

Johns Creek continues discussions to preserve historic Black cemetery By JON WILCOX jon@appenmedia.com JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — Johns Creek is preparing for a second round of radar analysis at the historic Macedonia Cemetery to map the locations of unmarked graves. City Council members discussed the plan during a Dec. 8 work session.

Bigman Geophysical would conduct ground penetrating radar at the historic Black cemetery, allowing the city to proceed with a plan for improvements there, City Manager Kimberly Greer said. The company was hired to conduct similar work in Atlanta’s Oakland Cemetery where it found almost 900 unmarked graves. “Having a deeper level of analysis across the whole site

would allow us to know where all the marked and unmarked burials are likely located,” Greer said. Located on the northeast corner of State Bridge and Medlock Bridge roads, the cemetery is tucked behind a neighborhood and car wash. The 1.92-acre site once hosted the Macedonia Methodist African Church.
