October GBM

APhA & NCPA collaborated for the October GBM on October 1st for an engaging event featuring Dr. Theresa Tolle, a prominent leader in the pharmacy profession. As the Past President of APhA and the owner of Bay Street Pharmacy in Sebastian, FL, Dr. Tolle brought a wealth of experience and insight into the challenges and rewards of running an independent pharmacy.

During this event, Dr. Tolle shared her personal journey in the pharmacy field, highlighting her advocacy efforts for the profession through APhA. Attendees gained valuable perspectives on the importance of independent pharmacies and the role of pharmacists in advocating for healthcare.

“This year, I am eager to engage more in pharmacy-related activities and establish connections with both colleagues and professionals. I am eager about engaging in leadership roles, contributing to advocacy initiatives, and participating in community outreach programs. Participating in these activities will facilitate my growth as a student and enhance the abilities necessary for making an important contribution in the profession.”

Why Apha?

Amanda Feliciano-Hernandez

Operation Substance Use Disorder Chair

APhA is a student organization that is driven by student involvement and community engagement. With them, I was able to participate in my first Point-of-Care testing where we measured blood sugar and blood pressure for the homeless population in St. Francis. It is also one of the biggest pharmacy student orgs, meaning you have more chance for growth if you are in a leadership role! One can go from being a local project chair to National VP. I know that by being part of APhA, I am able to develop skills that will help me in my pharmacy career and grow as a person as well.

I joined APhA because it will help me learn and explore about different careers in pharmacy, connect with professionals in the field and guide me to get the expertise to provide community outreach

I joined APhA because I believe it has the most opportunities to network, volunteer in the community and develop myself professionally. Because APhA has many specialties and doesn't focus on just one area, it helps me explore different pharmacy careers and due to the diverse range of events, it has something for everyone in APhA and provides many opportunities for leadership and community engagement.

American Pharmacist's month proclamation

On October 17th, during a City Hall meeting, the Gainesville mayor presented a proclamation to the University of Florida's American Pharmacists Association. This recognition celebrated the dedication and contributions of pharmacists in the community, coinciding with American Pharmacists Month. The event highlighted the important role pharmacists play in healthcare and acknowledges their hard work and commitment.
