SHAPER #1 Empresa F. A. JOALHEIROS, LDA.

Manuel Ferreira e Joaquim Almeida conheceram-se há 30 anos no Curso de Ourivesaria do Cindor. Foram os melhores alunos da turma e sentiram desde logo uma sintonia que tornou lógica a decisão de se aliarem no negócio. Para além da amizade, une-os a mesma visão: concretizar a perfeição em forma de joias.

Foram crescendo, instigados pelo sonho e pela perseverança, até que em 1998 criaram a sua própria marca, a F.A. Joalheiros. Aliam à mestria da execução, a criatividade do desenho, desenvolvendo coleções próprias. Ao longo do tempo, foram-se moldando às tendências do mercado, adotando novos materiais e encontrando novas abordagens, mas sempre mantendo a originalidade e qualidade de execução, que distinguem as suas peças.

A produção foi-se tornando mais robusta, crescendo ao ritmo do negócio. A sabedoria foi-se adensando pela experiência dos seus artesãos, cujo percurso se confunde com o da empresa.

António Oliveira e Fernando Monteiro estão desde a fundação e tornaram-se os seus alicerces. Aqui aprenderam a técnica e

Manuel Ferreira and Joaquim Almeida met 30 years ago at the Cindor Jewellers Course. They were first in their class and immediately felt a connection which logically drew them together in business. They are united not only in friendship but also in vision: attain perfection through jewellery.

They grew, spurred by the dream and by perseverance until they created their own brand in 1998, F. A. Joalheiros. They partner the mastery of execution with the creativity of design, developing their own collections. Over time, they have adapted to market demand, embracing new materials and approaches while maintaining the originality and quality of execution that distinguish their pieces.

Shaper #1 – Joaquim Almeida Joaquim Almeida tem 46 anos. Filho de ourives, o ouro corre-lhe nas veias e quando entrou no Cindor, há precisamente 30 anos, confirmou a vocação. Sócio da F. A. Joalheiros, somou ao talento da arte, a visão de negócio. Com ambição e perseverança soube ler o mercado e adaptar-se às novas dinâmicas. Criou uma relação de confiança e amizade com os seus colaboradores e aí reside o segredo do sucesso.

Joaquim Almeida, 46 years of age. The son of a jeweller, gold is in his blood and his calling was confirmed when he was admitted to Cindor exactly 30 years ago. As partner at FA Jewellers, he added business acumen to the gift of the art. His ambition and perseverance allowed him to comprehend the market and adapt to the new dynamics. He built a relationship of trust and friendship with his employees and that is where the secret of success resides.

Shaper #2 – Serafim Ferreira de Sousa Com 82 anos, Serafim representa o arquétipo do artesão português. Nas suas mãos vemos a dureza da técnica e nos seus olhos a sensibilidade da arte. Natural de Gondomar, berço da ourivesaria nacional, iniciou-se na arte muito jovem e a ela dedicou a sua vida.

Aprendeu com os mestres, mas foi sozinho, à banca, que aperfeiçoou o engenho. Dos seus três filhos, um seguiu-lhe o exemplo e, à medida que lhe ensina tudo o que sabe, aprende com ele também.

At 82, Serafim represents the archetype of the Portuguese artisan. In his hands we see the harshness of the trade and in his eyes the sentiment. Born in Gondomar, the cradle of national jewellery, he entered the art at a very young age and to it he dedicated his life. He learned from the masters, but it was alone at his workbench that he refined the ingenuity. Of his three children one followed in his footsteps and, as he taught him so he learned.

Shaper #3 – José Elói Com 23 anos, José Elói carrega no apelido o nome do Santo que apadrinha o setor. Filho de uma família de ourives a quem a crise económica cessou o negócio, decidiu traçar o seu próprio caminho. Formou-se em Joalharia e Cravação no Cindor e após um estágio cumprido com distinção, conquistou o seu lugar na oficina de Jorge Fernando Ferreira da Silva. Ainda durante a formação, venceu o Campeonato Nacional das Profissões e foi representar Portugal ao Brasil. Sonha um dia abrir a sua própria oficina, mas por enquanto quer continuar a aprender com os seus mestres.

At 23 years of age José Elói carries in his surname the name of the patron saint of the sector. Son of a family of goldsmiths whose business was destroyed by the economic crisis, he decided to chart his own course. He received a degree in Jewellery and Embedding from Cindor and after completing an internship with honours, earned his place in Jorge Fernando Ferreira da Silva’s workshop. During his training he won the National Skills Championship and represented Portugal in Brazil. His dream is to open his own workshop one day but for now he wants to keep learning from his masters.

A AMAG nasceu de uma história de amor. Entre Silvina e Paulo Gama e de ambos com a ourivesaria. E essa paixão funde-se com o metal, que dá origem às suas joias. A marca tem 5 anos, mas a narrativa escreve-se há 18, ano em que Paulo se iniciou como ourives por conta própria. Ditou o destino que a primeira peça tenha ficado pronta no dia do nascimento do primeiro filho, prenúncio de que este era um compromisso para toda a vida.

Paulo é o autor das joias. Não segue um guião, as peças vão-se moldando pelos dedos, ganhando forma e textura até chegar à conceção final. E é isso que mais o apaixona na ourivesaria. A criação, impulsionada pela arte. Porque Paulo gosta de pensar com as mãos, estabelecer um diálogo com as peças, em que o processo desperta novas ideias e desvenda novos caminhos.

Shaper #4 – Paulo Gama Paulo Gama tem 49 anos e mais de 30 são dedicados à ourivesaria. Começa na oficina de um familiar, onde ganha o gosto pela arte. Depois lança-se por conta própria, produzindo para outras marcas. Aperfeiçoa a técnica, mas também a paixão pela criação, o que o incentiva a firmar a sua própria assinatura. A AMAG, leitura inversa do seu apelido, permite-lhe a liberdade para expressar a sua visão e desenvolver a sua arte.

Paulo Gama is 49 years old and over 30 of those have been dedicated to goldsmithing. He starts out in a family member’s workshop where he acquired the taste for the art. After that he went out on his own and produced for other brands. He perfects not only the technique but also the passion for creation which leads him to launch his own signature. AMAG, his surname read backwards, allows him the freedom to express his vision and develop his art.

SHAPER #5 Empresa FERNANDO MARTINS PEREIRA E C.ª, LDA.

A Fernando Martins Pereira é uma das mais antigas oficinas de ourivesaria do país. Foi fundada por José Martins Pereira, em 1914, ano em que na Europa desencadeava a primeira Grande Guerra. Nos anos 70, a empresa passa para as mãos dos filhos do fundador, Fernando, Mário e David. É nessa altura que se dá também um momento de viragem na história da empresa. Adquirem, a uma oficina em falência, uma coleção exclusiva de mais de 1400 cunhos, que remontam ao final do séc. XVIII, inícios do séc. XIX. Para além do extraordinário acervo de formas de estilo barroco, detalhadas e românticas, os cunhos permitem criar peças exuberantes com interior oco, tornando-as mais leves e acessíveis.

A década de 70 foi de enorme prosperidade. Com uma ambição inusitada para a época, a Fernando Martins Pereira alia-se a oito empresas do setor para, em conjunto, se apresentarem aos mercados internacionais. Foram os pioneiros da exportação e essa bravura trouxe recompensa, não só financeira, como de

Shaper #5 – Pedro Manuel Castro Pereira Pedro Pereira é filho de Mário Martins Pereira. Desde pequeno, passava as férias de verão na fábrica do pai observando o seu ofício. Era a sua segunda escola e o pai o seu melhor professor. Quando começou a trabalhar na empresa, repartiu com ele as duras tarefas de ourives: desde a fundição dos metais à estampagem dos cunhos, técnica distintiva da empresa. Era com eles que tudo começava a ganhar forma. Hoje em dia honra o legado do pai, mantendo os processos artesanais que lhe ensinou e a paixão que sempre lhe incutiu.

Pedro Pereira is the son of Mário Martins Pereira. As a child, he spent his summer vacations at his father’s work shop observing his craft. It was his second school and his father his best teacher. When he began to work at the company, he shared with him the hard tasks of a goldsmith: from metal fusion to die-stamping, the company’s distinctive technique. They were at the genesis of the jewellery shaping process. Nowadays he honors his father’s legacy, preserving the handcraft techniques he taught him and the passion he inspired.

SHAPER #6 Empresa JOICASTROS - OURIVES E JOALHEIROS, LDA.

A Joicastros é um projeto de dois irmãos, em que, como é típico das relações fraternas, os opostos se complementam. O velho princípio do Yin Yang, em que as forças inversas encontram na união a energia da criação.

José António representa o lado racional do negócio. Foi dele a iniciativa de criar a empresa, em 1982, e de convidar o seu irmão para fazer parte do projeto. É a ele que compete a gestão da empresa e a relação com fornecedores e clientes. Liberta o irmão da burocracia hostil à criação, ao mesmo tempo que lhe incute as regras de um mercado em permanente evolução.

Mário representa o lado artístico. O processo criativo desafia-o. A procura pela forma perfeita, o desenvolvimento de novas texturas, o domínio do metal. A quimera da arte inspira-o a uma constante aprendizagem e evolução, que alia a um instinto natural para a criação.

José António represents the rational side of the business. His initiative gave the company wings and brought his brother on board in 1982. He is responsible for managing the company and for supplier and client relations. This frees his brother of the bureaucracy inimical to creation and simultaneously instils in him the rules of a permanently evolving market.

Mário Castro is a 44-year-old natural creator. Metal is a canvas to his imagination. He discovered in wax modelling the freedom to create and discover new approaches to art. He is incapable of explaining the instinctive process by which he obtains the results he intends. He calls it a gift. Instinct does not always dominate, and then the result is borne of a mistake that becomes a solution.

Apesar de ter ensaiado a técnica toda a sua vida, apenas se dedica profissionalmente à filigrana a partir de 2008, após ter concluído a formação no Cindor. Em 2010, torna-se ela própria formadora de filigrana, com o objetivo de incutir a paixão pela arte nas novas gerações. É atualmente formadora no Cindor, Contacto de Autor e Alquimia.

Conceição Neves is an embassador of Portuguese filigree not only for proficiently mastering the technique but also in contributing to the defence and promotion of the art.

Although she has practised the technique all her life she has only dedicated herself professionally to filigree since 2008 after completing her training at Cindor. In 2010 she herself becomes a teacher of filigree with the intention of inflaming the new generations with a love for the art. She is currently teaching at Cindor, Contacto de Autor and Alquimia.
