PRESENTACIÓN PRESENTATION

Anuario: “Libro o publicación que se edita anualmente con todos los datos de lo ocurrido durante el año anterior, dedicado a la información general o a una materia o actividad específica” o “Libro que se publica cada año como guía para determinadas profesiones, con información, direcciones y otros datos de utilidad”. Estas definiciones nos dicen que lo que llamamos anuario es más bien un bi-anuario, que editamos cada dos años. Nuestro Bi-anuario, entonces, es un documento que recoge la publicación de un proyecto, libremente escogido por cada oficina socia, resultando ser un importante y muy completo exponente de las oficinas de arquitectos de Chile. Publicado en castellano y en inglés, el aporte que cada asociado ha hecho en estos dos años a la arquitectura de nuestras ciudades está aquí, representado con planos y fotografías para someterse al juicio público en el ámbito nacional y ante la comunidad internacional, como una vitrina transversal del quehacer arquitectónico chileno. En el periodo que abarca este Bi-anuario, 2010-2011, se demuestra el compromiso cada vez más riguroso de nuestros profesionales y sus equipos de trabajo, sin autorías individuales, con importantes y cuidados proyectos que incluyen edificios hospitalarios, oficinas, hoteles, viviendas, obras de recreación, urbanismo, paisajismo, iluminación y vialidad, todos con el sello AOA en su apego a las normas y reglamentos y también a la ética profesional. Pero sobre todo se observa el rigor en el cumplimiento de cada encargo con una arquitectura de calidad, principios que son la base y la fortaleza de nuestra Asociación y que nos han llevado a posicionarnos en un lugar de privilegio en el ámbito de la creación en el país. Vaya un especial reconocimiento en esta publicación a los trabajos y proyectos en los que nuestras oficinas asociadas pusieron todo su empeño y patrimonio para ser un determinante factor de ayuda en la reconstrucción del país luego del violento y destructivo terremoto y maremoto del 27 de febrero del año 2010. Queda impresa en nuestros corazones, como un cuño indeleble, la satisfacción de haber sido partícipes silenciosos, pero oportunos y eficientes, en las obras de servicio público que la tragedia nos demandaba. Confiamos que la recopilación de este periodo, en el que Patrick Turner presidió la Asociación con especial desvelo y eficiencia, esté a la altura y expectativas de todos ustedes.

Yearbook: “Book that is published annually with all the information on what occurred during the previous year, either dedicated to general information or to a specific subject activity” or “Book which is published each year as a guide for certain professions, with information, addresses and other useful data” These definitions encourage us to reflect on the AOA Yearbook and we conclude that this is not a yearbook, but rather of a bi-yearbook, since it is published every two years. Our Bi-yearbook, then, is a document that gathers and publishes architectural projects, each of them freely chosen by each associated office, proving to be a very complete and important exponent of the offices of architects in Chile. The contribution that each associate has done in these two years to the architecture of our cities is published, both in Spanish and English, in this book, in the form of drawings and photographs, as a showcase of the Chilean architectural endeavors, so as to submit them to public scrutiny, both at the national level and in front of the international community. In the period covered by this Bi-yearbook, 2010-2011, establishes the increasingly rigorous commitment of our professionals and their work teams, in the absence of individual author ship, whit important and carefully executed projects than included hospital buildings, offices, hotels, dwellings, recreation, urban planning, landscaping, lighting and highway administration projects, all of them with the AOA seal, which is faithful to its deep adherence to au courant rules and regulations and to professional ethics. Above all there is rigor in the compliance of each assignment with quality architecture, which define founding principles of our Association, therefore situating us is at a privileged position in the country. A special recognition goes to the works and projects realized by our AOA offices, aimed at being a determinant factor in the reconstruction of our country after the violent and devastating earthquake and seaquake of 27F. The satisfaction felt over de fact of being silent and timely participants of the oeuvres of public service demanded by this tragedy will forever be engraved in our hearts. We are confident that this period’s compilation, under the efficient and vigilant direction of Patrick Turner and his board, complies with all of your expectations,

El posicionamiento internacional de los sectores exportadores requiere de una estrecha coordinación públicoprivada, en la que ProChile ha trabajado constantemente. A través del desarrollo de marcas sectoriales se ha buscado en forma asociativa, que una oferta de calidad de servicios o productos salga al exterior con una visión común de la imagen de Chile. Eso es lo que buscamos con el trabajo de Marcas Sectoriales. Potenciar y maximizar la inversión en el posicionamiento internacional de Chile trabajando con los distintos sectores productores de bienes y servicios. Es así que cuando una de estas empresas asociadas bajo una marca que representa a Chile logra comunicar sus méritos, y lo hace con aplomo y persuasión, de manera profesional y sólida en el mercado escogido, es Chile entero el que se está beneficiando. Producto del trabajo de diseño de la marca “Arquitectura de Chile”, se llegó a una definición que reúne los principales atributos del sector alineados a la imagen país: “Arquitectura de vanguardia que aborda la diversidad geográfica y climática, seguridad antisísmica y sustentabilidad como componentes inseparables de todo proyecto.” Se quiso transmitir la arquitectura chilena como una de vanguardia, sustentable y fuertemente adaptable a distintos entornos. Con gran experiencia en arquitectura habitacional en un mercado inmobiliario maduro, de un país en vías de desarrollo y por lo tanto donde los recursos materiales y financieros deben utilizarse con eficiencia. Finalmente, una arquitectura que se concibe y se construye para resistir los sismos más fuertes que afectan a la humanidad. En definitiva, el sector lo tenía todo, sólo requería de una asesoría experta en el diseño e implementación de su marca sectorial para en forma asociativa salir al mundo con un servicio hecho en Chile.

The international positioning of the exporting sectors requires narrow public-private coordination, one that has been worked on by Pro-Chile constantly. Through the development of brand marks, the quest to offer quality services or products to go overseas with a common vision of Chile’s image, has been sought for associatively. That is what we are looking for with the work of brand marks. To enhance and maximize the investment in the international positioning of Chile, by working with the various goods-producers and services sectors. Chile benefits when a company associated under a brand name that duly represents the country, manages to professionally and solidly communicate its merits with aplomb and persuasion, in the selected market. As a result of the design work of the brand “Architecture of Chile”, a definition that brings together the main attributes of the sector aligned to the image of the country was reached: “Avant garde architecture that addresses the geographic and climatic diversity, earthquake safety and sustainability as inseparable components of all projects”. Chilean architecture is meant to be conveyed as cutting edge, sustainable and highly adaptable to different environments. With great experience in residential architecture inserted in a mature real estate market of a developing country, and therefore where the material and financial resources must be used with efficiency. Consequently, an architecture that is conceived and built to withstand the strongest earthquakes. In short, the sector had everything. It only required expert advice in the design and implementation of its brand mark, so as to exit to the world in an associative manner with a service made in Chile.

Fundada en 1998, la Asociación de Oficinas de Arquitectos de Chile se ha consolidado como una representativa entidad gremial que agrupa a más de 160 oficinas de arquitectos, entre ellas las más importantes y prestigiosas del país. A través de sus asociados, la AOA concentra la mayor experiencia, capacidad técnica y de gestión en el desarrollo de proyectos de arquitectura en las más diversas áreas y escalas: viviendas y conjuntos habitacionales, edificios corporativos e industriales, infraestructura y servicios, urbanismo, etc. Los objetivos de la AOA apuntan a ser referente de gestión frente a los desafíos que impone el desarrollo para el país, participando activamente en diversas iniciativas tanto públicas como privadas, proyectando la arquitectura chilena en el mundo y propiciando la inserción de sus asociados en la economía global. Asimismo, incentiva y favorece el mejoramiento continuo del quehacer profesional por medio de la generación de alianzas, servicios y beneficios de variada índole. Para la Asociación es un deber velar por los intereses comunes de los asociados y por la correcta aplicación de la normativa vigente en Chile y dentro del marco ético que exige el ejercicio de la profesión; promover iniciativas que beneficien el desarrollo de la arquitectura; participar en el debate de ideas y representar a sus socios ante las instancias que correspondan, a fin de que sus posturas sean consideradas; impulsar y generar las condiciones para que sus socios se comprometan con la sustentabilidad, el uso eficiente de energía y otras variables que benefician al país y al mundo entero. Junto a ello, la AOA se preocupa de generar instancias de relación y trabajo conjunto con sus asociados, favoreciendo encuentros de formación y profesionales entre sus pares. Founded in 1998, the Architectural Office Association of Chile has consolidated itself as a guild which brings together more than 160 offices of architects, including the most important and prestigious in the country. Through its associates, the AOA holds the most experience, technical capacity, and administrative capacity in the development of architectural projects in the most diverse areas and scales: dwellings, housing complexes, corporate and industrial buildings, infrastructure and commercial architecture, urban planning, etc. The objectives of the AOA are aimed to be a referent of management confronted to the challenges imposed by the country’s development, participating actively in various initiatives both public and private, to project Chilean architecture in the world, and promote the integration of its associates in the global economy. It also encourages and promotes the continuous improvement of the professional work through the generation of alliances, services and benefits of varied nature. For the Association, it is a duty to care for the concerns of the associates and ensure the correct application of the rules in forcé in Chile, within the ethical framework that requires the professional exercise; to promote initiatives that benefit the development of architecture; to participate in the discussion of ideas and to duly represent the associates, in order that their positions be considered; and to promote and generate the conditions that will favor commitment towards sustainability policies and the efficient use of energy benefitting the country and the whole world. In addition, we are concerned in the generation of instances of relationship and teamwork amid the associates, by favoring formation and professional meetings among its peers.

ORGANIZACIÓN ORGANIZATION Para el presente ejercicio la AOA ha definido áreas de trabajo que, articuladas entre sí, desarrollan y fortalecen aspectos como las relaciones internacionales, servicios a la comunidad, publicaciones, extensión y difusión, capacitación y tecnología, generación de redes y representatividad en diversos ámbitos. For this aspect, the AOA has defined areas of work that, interconnected, develop and strengthen features, such as international relations, community services, publications, broadcasting, training and technology, and the generation of networks and representativeness in various areas.

 NEW HEADQUARTERS AREA It is responsible of ensuring the suitability and operation of the recently inaugurated corporate headquarters, with a surface area of 700 square meters, that will allow the generation of activities of interest to the associates.

 ÁREA RELACIONES INTERNACIONALES Impulsa y gestiona proyectos de representación y posicionamiento de la arquitectura chilena y de las oficinas asociadas en el mundo, a través de alianzas y convenios con importantes instituciones y gremios de arquitectura en diversos países. En este contexto la AOA trabaja con los más importantes organismos públicos –como Corfo y ProChile–, y se ha validado como representante de la arquitectura chilena en el mundo. En el marco de su alianza con ProChile, las acciones 2012 buscan potenciar redes de contacto permanente con embajadas, ministerios y entidades privadas a fin de explorar oportunidades para las oficinas chilenas. En el marco de los acuerdos con otras asociaciones está vigente un acuerdo con la Sociedad Central de Arquitectos de Argentina y con la Sociedad Francesa de Arquitectos.

 INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AREA It promotes and manages projects of representation and positioning of the Chilean architecture and of associated offices in the world through agreements and alliances with leading institutions and architecture guilds in various countries. In this context the AOA works with the most important public bodies –such as Corfo and ProChile–, and has been validated as a representative of the Chilean architecture in the world. In the framework of its alliance with ProChile, the actions 2012 empower networks of permanent contact with embassies, ministries and private entities, in order to explore opportunities for the Chilean offices. Within the framework of agreements with other associations is in effect an agreement with the Central Society of Architects of Argentina and the French Society of Architects.

 ÁREA SERVICIOS A LA COMUNIDAD Genera, articula y/o gestiona proyectos arquitectónicos y urbanos de carácter social orientados al rescate arquitectónico, cultural y patrimonial de nuestras ciudades. En este contexto se enmarcan los proyectos de reconstrucción post 27F, en que participaron más de 20 oficinas voluntarias.

 COMMUNITY SERVICES AREA It generates, articulates and/or manages projects of architectural and urban social nature oriented to the rescue of the architectural and cultural heritage of our towns. Within this context we find the reconstruction projects post 27F.

EXTENSION AND BROADCASTING AREA 

Explora y desarrolla instancias que permitan proyectar la imagen y aumentar la representatividad de la Asociación en todo el país, como también fortalecer la comunicación entre los asociados y hacia la comunidad. Entre sus tareas se cuenta la organización, gestión y administración de concursos de arquitectura; las comunicaciones internas (página web corporativa e informativos diarios) y las comunicaciones externas (presencia en medios de comunicación), como asimismo la relación con nuevas oficinas y con regiones.

It explores and develops instances that allow us to project the image and increase the Association’s representativeness throughout the country, as well as strengthening the communication between the association and outwards towards the community. Its tasks include the organization, management and administration of architectural competitions; internal communications (corporate website and daily news), external communications (presence in media), and the relationship with new offices and regions. IDDEA Foundation As part of the broadcasting objectives, their work is to promote the leadership of the AOA in the study, analysis and debate in the areas of architecture, planning and urbanism.

EL APORTE DE LA AOA A LA RECONSTRUCCIÓN THE AOA’S CONTRIBUTION IN RECONSTRUCTION

La catástrofe que sufrió el país el 27 de febrero de 2010 sin duda fue el hecho de mayor impacto en la agenda de la AOA durante el periodo. La Asociación desarrolló, coordinó y gestionó importantes proyectos de reconstrucción para las zonas más afectadas por el terremoto y maremoto. The catastrophe endured by the country on the 27th of February of 2010 was clearly the strongest blow on the AOA’s agenda for this period. The Architectural Office Association of Chile developed, coordinated and managed important reconstruction projects for the most struck areas.

En un destacable ejemplo de profesionalismo y compromiso, fueron numerosas las oficinas asociadas que, a las pocas horas de ocurrida la tragedia, comenzaron a trabajar en el diseño de proyectos que recogieran necesidades humanas, urbanas, culturales, patrimoniales y de sustentabilidad para las comunidades involucradas. La labor de los equipos participantes fue pro-bono y se extiende hasta hoy, abarcando desde el diseño de los proyectos hasta su construcción. In a noteworthy example of professionalism and commitment, after a few hours of the occurrence of the tragedy, numerous associated offices began working in the design of projects gathering information on human, urban, cultural, patrimonial and sustainability necessities for all the affected communities. As a pro-bono work, it continues till today, and comprises from the design of the projects to its final construction.

PLAN MAESTRO PARA LA RECUPERACIÓN DE JUAN FERNÁNDEZ MASTER PLAN FOR THE RECOVERY OF JUAN FERNANDEZ En asociación con la I. Municipalidad de Lo Barnechea, 10 oficinas concentraron esfuerzos en San Juan Bautista, el principal poblado del Archipiélago de Juan Fernández, arrasado por el maremoto. Se trabajó en ocho tareas: el plan de reconstrucción integral del poblado; la propuesta de un Plan Maestro, que definió la nueva zonificación y ubicación de usos y edificaciones; modificaciones al Plan Regulador, el cual estaba en trámite antes del maremoto; desarrollo de siete tipos de viviendas con ampliación por etapas; desarrollo de escuela definitiva; diseño de la zona de pescadores y edificios de carpintería y boxes; diseño del Edificio Consistorial; y diseño de área turística y deportiva.

In association with the Municipality of Lo Barnechea, 10 bureaus focused all their efforts on the reconstruction of San Juan Bautista, the main town of the Juan Fernández Archipelago, which had been devastated by the tsunami. Eight tasks were undertaken: the planning of the complete reconstruction of the town; the proposal of a Master Plan aimed to define the new zoning and location of the edifications; modifications in the City Plan, in process since before the seaquake; the development of seven types of houses, each of which with potentiality of enlargement by stages; the development of a definitive school; the design of the fishing zone and buildings for carpentry and woodwork; the design of the Municipal Building; and the design of the tourist and sporting area.

LA RUTA DE LAS CALETAS THE ROUTE OF THE COVES A través de seis oficinas asociadas, la AOA asumió el diseño arquitectónico de instalaciones pesqueras y turísticas para seis caletas de la VII Región, como parte del proyecto “La Ruta de las Caletas” impulsado y financiado por el holding Antofagasta Minerals. Con un total de 4.660 m2 construidos, las localidades intervenidas por la AOA fueron Boyeruca, Duao, Loanco, Pellines, Pelluhue y Curanipe, con el objetivo adicional de agregarles valor turístico. Los proyectos desarrollados permitieron mejorar sustancialmente el estándar que tenían las instalaciones antes del terremoto. Through six associated offices, the AOA took over the architectural design of new coves and touristic facilities for six coastal towns of the VII Region, as part of the project “The Route of the Coves”, financed and encouraged by the Antofagasta Minerals holding. The Boyeruca, Duao, Loanco, Pellines, Pelluhue and Curanipe localities were intervened by the AOA, over a total of 4.660 m2 of construction surface, thus granting them touristic added value. The quality standards of those facilities were substantially improved as compared to before the seaquake.

ESCUELAS PARA CHILE SCHOOLS FOR CHILE Como un proyecto surgido de la campaña nacional Chile Ayuda a Chile, un grupo de asociados trabajó en conjunto a Escuelas para Chile. Como resultado, a sólo nueve meses del terremoto y tsunami se logró reconstruir y levantar 320 escuelas modulares, distribuidas en más de 800 kilómetros entre la Región Metropolitana y la del Biobío, beneficiando a más de 126 mil niños. En total fueron 70.346 m2 construidos por siete oficinas de la AOA.

As an offspring project of the national campaign “Chile Ayuda a Chile” (Chile Helps Chile) a group of associates worked alongside “Schools for Chile”. As a result, only nine months after the earthquake and tsunami, 320 modular schools were rebuilt, spread over more than 800 kilometers, from the Metropolitan Region to the Bío Bío Region, benefitting over 126 thousand children. In sum, 70,346 m2 were built by seven offices of the AOA.

PROPUESTA PARA LA RECUPERACIÓN DE LA IMAGEN URBANA EN PUEBLOS TÍPICOS PROPOSAL FOR URBAN IMAGE RECOVERY OF CENTRAL VALLEY TOWNS El terremoto produjo daños irrecuperables en el patrimonio arquitectónico característico de la zona central. La imagen urbana de fachadas continuas, techumbres a dos aguas y corredores exteriores prácticamente se perdió, lo que motivó a dos oficinas de la AOA a presentar una propuesta para reconstruir esta imagen en un lenguaje contemporáneo.

The earthquake produced irreparable damage on the architectural heritage characteristic of the central zone of Chile. The distinctive urban image comprised of the continuous façade, two slope pitched tiled roofs and exterior corridors were all practically lost, thus impelling two offices of the AOA to design an au courant architectural proposal for the reconstruction of this image.



POSICIONAMIENTO, GENERACIÓN DE REDES Y ROL PÚBLICO POSITIONING, NETWORK GENERATION AND PUBLIC ROLE

NUEVA SEDE NEW HEADQUARTERS La reciente adquisición de amplias y modernas instalaciones sella una larga aspiración de la AOA: tener ‘casa propia’, un gran punto de encuentro abierto al desarrollo de las más diversas actividades corporativas. Fue en el contexto de las celebraciones del décimo aniversario, en 2008, que se decidió emprender la búsqueda de un lugar propio donde operar y desarrollar las numerosas actividades que definen la labor de la AOA. El proceso culminó a fines de 2011 con la compra de un inmueble de tres niveles y más de 700 m2 de superficie, ubicado en un moderno edificio de Av. Eliodoro Yáñez frente a la emblemática Plaza Las Lilas. Con un programa que incluye oficinas, biblioteca, auditorio y sala de exposiciones de uso múltiple, el objetivo de la nueva sede es acoger a los asociados y asentarse como punto de reunión para el desarrollo de actividades y eventos de la Asociación, además de brindar a los socios servicios para reuniones y conferencias y abrir espacio a proveedores para la promoción de productos de interés profesional, entre otros beneficios. La habilitación de las oficinas concluye el primer semestre de 2012. The recent acquisition of ample and modern facilities seals a long overdue aspiration of the AOA: to own a “home”, a great meeting point open for the development of the most varied corporate activities. During the celebrations of the AOA’s 10th anniversary, in 2008, the members decided to begin the quest for the search of a place to develop and administer the numerous activities which define the AOA’s field of work. The process concluded towards the end of 2011, with the purchase of a three storey property measuring over 700 m2, located in a modern edifice of Av. Eleodoro Yáñez, in front of the emblematic Las Lilas Square. With an agenda that includes business offices, library, auditorium and multipurpose exhibition facilities, the aim of this new location is not only to harbor all associates, but also to become the meeting point for the development of events and activities of the Association. This space will provide members with services for conferences and meetings, and allow providers to promote their products, amongst other benefits. The offices will be duly equipped by the first semester of 2012.

Durante el periodo, objetivo importante para la AOA fue reforzar la proyección de su quehacer y asentarse como interlocutor gravitante en el ámbito del ejercicio profesional. Colabora en la organización de importantes concursos de arquitectura y de manera frecuente participa en exposiciones, seminarios y charlas. Asimismo avanza en la generación de redes con diversos organismos, públicos y privados, a fin de aportar a definiciones relevantes en temas de arquitectura y desafíos urbanos. During this period, one of the main objectives of the AOA was to strengthen the influence of its work, and thus establish itself as a gravitating interlocutor in the professional practice. The AOA collaborates in the organization of important architectural competitions, and frequently participates in exhibitions, seminars and lectures. Furthermore, it advances in the generation of networks with both public and private organizations, providing relevant definitions of both architectural and urban challenges issues.

PRINCIPALES CONCURSOS DE ARQUITECTURA MAIN ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITIONS Lycée Antoine de Saint Exupéry - Alianza Francesa Chicureo, 2011 La Asociación fue la encargada de organizar el concurso de anteproyectos para la sede que esta institución educacional construirá en el sector de Chamisero, al norte de Santiago. Con el arquitecto Sergio San Martín como director de concurso, el jurado congregó a prestigiados arquitectos, quienes destacaron el alto nivel de las más de 40 propuestas presentadas. El primer lugar lo obtuvo el grupo formado por las oficinas Mas y Fernández Arquitectos (Cristóbal Fernández, Andrés Mas, Felipe Fuentes, Gabriela Medrano), Arqdesign Arquitectos (Francisco Correa Brehme y) y Leyton Arquitectos (Gonzalo Leyton), todos socios de la AOA. Concurso Arquitectura Sostenible Batimat, 2011 Patrocinado por la AOA, la Cámara Chilena de la Construcción y la Cámara de Comercio Franco-Chilena, la Asociación estuvo representada en este concurso por su directora Mónica Pérez, quien colaboró en la organización, y por el entonces vicepresidente y director de Publicaciones Yves Besançon, quien fue jurado. Requisito para los arquitectos participantes fue acreditar su aporte al desarrollo sustentable en Chile y mostrar trabajos concretos de arquitectura sostenible.

Parque Isla Cautín en Temuco, 2011 La AOA colaboró en la elaboración de bases y patrocinó este concurso internacional de ideas organizado en Temuco. Además de autoridades regionales y gremiales, el jurado reunió a connotados arquitectos de distinto países, entre ellos el costarricense Carlos Jiménez, jurado del Premio Pritzker. En la comisión evaluadora también participó Enrique Browne, integrante del equipo editorial de Revista AOA. El certamen fue ganado por el equipo chileno conformado por Danilo Martic, Teodoro Fernández y Nicole Rochette. La oficina asociada San Martín y Pascal integró el equipo que obtuvo el 2º lugar. Isla Cautin Park in Temuco, 2011 The AOA sponsored and collaborated in the elaboration of the rules of this international competition organized in Temuco. Aside the regional and guild authorities, the jury gathered distinguished architects from abroad, amongst them the Costa Rican Carlos Jiménez, former jury of the Pritzker Prize. Enrique Browne, member of the editorial staff of the AOA Magazine was also part of the evaluation committee. The contest was won by the Chilean team comprised by Danilo Martic, Teodoro Fernández and Nicole Rochette. The architect’s bureau San Martin y Pascal, member of AOA, was part of the team that attained the second place.

Batimat Sustainable Architecture Competition, 2011 Sponsored by the AOA, the Chilean Chamber of Construction, and the Franco-Chilean Chamber of Commerce, the Association was represented in this competition by its director Monica Perez, who also collaborated in its organization; and by the former Vicepresident and Director of Publications Yves Besancon, who served as jury. The participant architects were required to certify their contribution in the sustainable development in Chile, and present concrete works on sustainable architecture.

5to Seminario Acop 2011 “El horizonte de la arquitectura: nuevas tendencias” fue el tema de este seminario patrocinado por la AOA. Fueron invitados a exponer Patrick Turner, Yves Besançon y Sergio San Martín, como moderador, quienes abordaron temas de gran interés para los asistentes. Fifth Seminar, Acop 2011 “The Horizon of Architecture: New Trends” was the subject of this seminar sponsored by the AOA. Patrick Turner and Yves Besancon were invited to participate, with Sergio San Martin as moderator, addressing issues of major interest.

Encuentros multisectoriales: Reconstrucción Escolar Invitada por el Ministerio de Educación, la AOA patrocinó las tres jornadas del “Encuentro Multisectorial: Reconstrucción Escolar” realizadas en 2011 (marzo, junio y diciembre). El objetivo de los encuentros fue compartir experiencias relevantes para el diseño y reconstrucción de establecimientos educacionales, además de interiorizarse con los marcos legales y presupuestarios disponibles y los mecanismos de participación para los privados.

Feria Chile Construye 2011 En el marco de esta Feria se organizó un seminario en que la AOA dio dos charlas técnicas: “La importancia de la eficiencia energética en arquitectura”, a cargo de Wilfred Walter, y “Nueva arquitectura en reconstrucción”, dictada por David Rodríguez. Chile Builds Fair, 2011 The AOA presented two technical lectures at the seminar organized within the fair’s framework: “The Importance of energetic efficiency in architecture” by Wilfred Walter and “Novel architecture in reconstruction” by David Rodríguez.

Multisectorial Meetings: School Reconstruction As a guest of the Ministry of Education, the AOA sponsored the three days of the congress “Multisectorial Meetings: School Reconstruction” which took place on 2011 (March, June and December). The objectives of these meetings were to share relevant experiences for the design and reconstruction of educational establishments, as well as becoming acquainted with the legal and budget frameworks available, and the mechanisms for private sector involvement. REUNIÓN CON EL MINISTRO DE VIVIENDA Patrick Turner e Yves Besançon, presidente y vicepresidente AOA 2010-2011 respectivamente, sostuvieron una reunión con el Ministro Rodrigo Pérez Mackenna. El objetivo fue dar a conocer los puntos de vista corporativos respecto a temas relacionados al buen desarrollo profesional y de la industria de la construcción. Entre otras cosas plantearon la necesidad de revisar y precisar la normativa a fin de evitar interpretaciones erróneas; también abordaron temas como el tiempo excesivo e injustificado que demoran los permisos de edificación y la burocracia asociada a construcciones y planificación urbana. La reunión fue muy positiva para la AOA: se evaluó la incorporación de dos socios a uno de los grupos ministeriales de trabajo.

MEETING WITH THE MINISTER OF HOUSING Patrick Turner and Yves Besancon, president and vicepresident of the AOA 2010-2011 respectively, held a meeting with the Minister of Housing Rodrigo Perez Mackenna. The main objective was to inform the corporate points of view concerning issues on the construction industry and proper professional development. Amongst other things, they established the need to revise the norms so as to avoid misleading interpretations; they also addressed issues such as the excessive and unjustified delays in the procurement of edification permits, and the bureaucracy associated to construction and urban planning. The meeting was deemed as very positive for the AOA: the incorporation of two of its associates to one of its workgroups was evaluated.

En la XVII Bienal de Arquitectura Por primera vez se participó oficialmente en la Bienal de Arquitectura (2010), con un atractivo stand; dentro de las actividades se realizó el lanzamiento de la Revista AOA 15. Gran orgullo, Enrique Browne, Gran Premio AOA e integrante del comité editorial de Revista AOA, fue elegido Premio Nacional de Arquitectura 2010. At the XVII Architectural Biennale For the first time, the AOA officially participated in the 2010 Architectural Biennale, exhibiting an attractive stand; amongst the activities realized, was the launching of the AOA Magazine N° 15. Proudly, Enrique Browne, Grand Prize AOA laureate and member of the editorial committee of the AOA Magazine was awarded the Architecture National Prize 2010.

Participación en el Chile Green Building Council Wilfred Walter, de la oficina BAU, fue nombrado representante oficial de la AOA ante este organismo de arquitectura sustentable, durante 2011. Por primera vez la Asociación tiene representatividad en el GBC, accediendo a reuniones y charlas y estableciendo un canal de comunicación para la transferencia de know how. In the Chile Green Building Council Wilfred Walter, of BAU office, was appointed official representative of the AOA for this organization of sustainable architecture during 2011. For first time, the Association was represented at the GBC, taking part of the meetings and conferences, thus establishing a communication channel for the transfer of know how.

The AOA at the Expo Shanghai 2010 As part of the Promotion and Placement of Chilean Architecture Plan, developed alongside the Area Branding Committee of CORFO, the AOA had an important participation in the Chilean pavilion at the Expo Shanghai. Aside from lectures, videos and exhibitions on national architecture, an impressive exhibit on the recently launched post earthquake reconstruction projects was shown.

Publicaciones chinas destacan arquitectura chilena Gracias a la gestión de la oficina AOA en Beijing, que operó durante 2010 como parte del plan de promoción de la arquitectura chilena contemporánea en China, diversas publicaciones especializadas dedicaron numerosas páginas a mostrar obras nacionales y destacar a sus autores. Chinese publications highlight Chilean architecture Under the direction of the Beijing AOA office during 2010, many specialized journals dedicated numerous pages to display and highlight national architectural works and their authors, as part of the promotion of Chilean contemporary architecture.

Plan Marcas Sectoriales y Proyecto Antena Con el fin de reforzar el posicionamiento de la marca “Arquitectura de Chile” en China se presentó la segunda etapa del Proyecto Marcas Sectoriales DASA AOA-ProChile, que permitió la participación de la AOA en la Bienal de Arquitectura de China. Otro punto de este proyecto es el desarrollo de una “Antena de oportunidades” para el sector arquitectura en todo el mundo. Brand Marks Plan and Antennae Project As a means to reinforce the positioning of the brand “Architecture in Chile”, the second stage of the Branding DASA AOA-ProChile Project was presented, allowing for the participation of the AOA in the Chinese Architecture Biennale. Another aspect of this project was the development of the “Opportunity Antennae” for the architectural field around the world. La AOA en la Bienal de Hong Kong y Shenzen 2011 Como única organización privada invitada, la AOA tuvo una importante participación en la Bienal de Hong Kong y Shenzen, realizada a comienzos de diciembre. En la ceremonia oficial de inauguración del Pabellón de Chile se presentó el libro Terremoto en Chile, Arquitectos en la Reconstrucción, editado por el área de Publicaciones AOA. Entre otras actividades, la Asociación participó en el seminario Terremoto 8.8, Reconstrucción, que precedió las conferencias de los arquitectos Massimiliano Fuskas y Rem Koolhas. The AOA at the Hong Kong and Shenzen Biennale, 2011 The AOA was the only private organization invited to the Hong Kong and Shenzen Biennale, which took place at the beginning of December 2011. During the Opening Ceremony of the Chilean Pavilion, the book Terremoto en Chile, Arquitectos en la Reconstrucción (Earthquake in Chile: Architects in Reconstruction), published by AOA Publishers was launched. The AOA participated in the seminar “Earthquake 8.8, Reconstruction”, which preceded the conferences presented by the architects Massimiliano Fuskas and Rem Koolhas, amongst other activities.

TECNOLOGÍA Y CONOCIMIENTO TECHNOLOGY AND KNOWLEDGE Conferencias internacionales Desde el año 2004 que la AOA invita a destacados arquitectos extranjeros a dictar conferencias sobre temas relevantes de su especialidad. Por lo general estas conferencias se realizan en asociación con universidades, para que sean aprovechadas por asociados y también por estudiantes de Arquitectura. Durante 2010 se invitó al arquitecto catalán Joan Busquets, a Melih Kamil, arquitecto de Turquía, y al peruano Bernardo Fort-Brescia, de Arquitectónica. En 2011 los invitados fueron al arquitecto australiano Peter Stutchbury y el arquitecto holandés Winy Maas. International Conferencies The AOA has been inviting distinguished architects from abroad since 2004, to deliver conferences on issues relevant to their specialties. Overall, these conferences are realized in association with universities, so as to benefit not only associates but also students of architecture. The Catalonian architect Joan Busquets, the Turkish architect Melih Kamil and the Peruvian architect Bernardo Fort-Brescia of “Arquitectónica” were invited during 2010. The guests of 2011 were the architects Peter Stutchbury from Australia and Winy Maas from the Netherlands.

Misión Tecnológica Escandinavia 2011 Focalizada en temas de gran vigencia y con el apoyo de empresas líderes, la comitiva de arquitectos asociados visitó Suiza, acogiendo una invitación de Vitra; Dinamarca, donde la embajada elaboró un programa de visitas y charlas relacionadas a diseño sustentable; Suecia y Finlandia. Scandinavian Technological Mission 2011 Targeted at engaging in state-of-the-art issues, and with the support of leading companies, the associated architects’ committee visited Switzerland, invited by Vitra; Denmark, where the embassy elaborated a schedule of visits and conferences related to sustainable design; Sweden and Finland.



El próximo proyecto es desarrollar la línea de monografías, un nuevo servicio para las oficinas asociadas. Revista AOA Por su calidad se ha consolidado como un referente entre las publicaciones especializadas en arquitectura chilena. Durante el periodo se lanzaron las ediciones 13 a 18, todas ellas en versión bilingüe para su participación en otros mercados que sean de interés para la Asociación. Por primera vez la revista tuvo presencia en la Bienal de Arquitectura en Chile (2010) donde obtuvo Diploma de Distinción.

También hay un extracto digital de todas las revistas, libros e informativos editados por el área de Publicaciones y un completo directorio de oficinas asociadas con un funcional buscador. La página se actualiza de manera permanente, e incluye una sección para mostrar obras enviadas por los socios. New web page www.aoa.cl After several months of work, the AOA’s web page was launched. Its sections and functions were designed so as to make of this web page a virtual meeting point for the associates. Easy to navigate, the page includes sections on contemporary trends and sustainability, a calendar of activities and events, information on competitions, opinion and debate columns amongst other issues. It has digital abstracts of all magazines, books and brochures published by the Publications area, and a complete directory of all associated offices, operated by an efficient search engine. The web page is continually being updated, and includes a section to exhibit works uploaded by the associates. BITÁCORA CORPORATIVA CORPORATE LOG Cambio de estatutos Tras más de 10 años de vigencia se procedió a revisar los estatutos de la asociación gremial con el fin de modificarlos de acuerdo a las nuevas necesidades y a la experiencia adquirida. Los nuevos estatutos se presentaron en una Asamblea Extraordinaria convocada para el 30 de septiembre, donde fueron aprobados por la unanimidad de los socios asistentes por los quórums legales. Entre las modificaciones importantes se estableció formalmente la figura de Past President; se creó el cargo de Secretario Ejecutivo; se eliminó el requisito de ser asociado al Colegio de Arquitectos para pertenecer a la AOA; se otorgó al directorio la facultad de adquirir inmuebles; y se formalizó la incorporación del correo electrónico como medio de comunicación oficial. Change of statutes The statutes of the guild association were revised after 10 years of validity so as to modify them according to the new necessities and acquired expertise. The new statutes were presented in an Extraordinary Assembly convened for the 30th of September, and approved unanimously by the legal quorums. Amongst the relevant modifications, the Past President figure was established; the Executive Secretary office was created; the requisite to belong to the Chilean Institute of Architects prior belonging the AOA was eliminated; the directory was granted the ability to acquire real estate; and the use of email as the official means of communication was formally established.

XIII Encuentro Pre-Asamblea General 2010 Se llevó a cabo en la ciudad de Antigua, Guatemala, del 4 al 6 de diciembre. Asistieron 44 arquitectos AOA y 14 representantes de empresas auspiciadoras. Premios AOA En 2009 se instituyó la distinción bianual Gran Premio AOA, que reconoce la obra de una oficina asociada y su aporte al desarrollo de la disciplina en nuestro país. En 2011 se crearon otros cuatro premios, los que fueron entregados en la ceremonia de inicio de año, realizada en abril. AOA Prizes The Grand AOA Prize was established in 2009, a biannual distinction which awards the work of an associated office, and its contribution in the development of this discipline in our country. During 2011 four other newly created awards were bestowed at the Start of the Year Ceremony, celebrated in April.

XIV Encuentro Pre-Asamblea General 2011 Se efectuó en Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, entre el 18 y el 21 de noviembre. Asistieron 48 arquitectos AOA y cinco representantes de auspiciadores. XIV Pre-General Assembly Meeting 2011 This meeting took place in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, from the 18th to the 21st of November. 48 AOA architects attended along with five sponsors’ representatives. Con este quinto tomo del Anuario AOA se consolida un enfoque más amplio del concebido inicialmente para nuestra publicación corporativa, en que la compilación de obras de los asociados se complementa con un resumen de la gestión desarrollada por la AOA entre 2010 y 2011, con sus hitos, logros e iniciativas. Esta edición reúne más de 90 obras, una por cada oficina asociada, escogidas con total libertad por sus propios autores como las más representativas de su trabajo en el periodo. Esta definición garantiza a todos los asociados una vitrina para mostrar su obra, a la vez que permite a la Asociación validarse a través de la calidad de las obras presentadas, la variedad de los campos abordados por nuestra profesión y la preeminencia del valor arquitectónico frente a trabajos cada vez más complejos e interdisciplinarios. El Anuario refleja además una determinada circunstancia, momento o contexto: recorrer las páginas de sus cinco ediciones también es recorrer los vaivenes de la actividad de la construcción en estos años. Es así como la recopilación de obras –que deben estar terminadas para poder publicarse– se resiente en periodos de baja actividad, pues no todos nuestros asociados tienen obras relevantes para mostrar, y en un sano ejercicio autocrítico optan por no enviar trabajos. Por el contrario, en periodos de auge hay muchas obras para exponer, pero justamente el exceso de trabajo les impide hacerse el tiempo necesario para mostrar adecuadamente un proyecto. Todo esto hace que la producción de cada anuario presente dificultades diferentes, y sólo la generosa colaboración de cada oficina nos permite entregar una publicación del alto nivel de calidad que requiere. Como siempre y cada vez más, este Anuario cubre un amplio registro de arquitectura chilena actual. Por lo tanto, además de entregar una muestra de qué y cómo hacen los arquitectos chilenos, constituye una importante ventana para aquellas oficinas internacionales que requieran una contraparte asociada en nuestro país. De paso, esto nos exige –como Área de Publicaciones AOA– desarrollar un libro a la altura de la mejor publicación internacional. Dado el crecimiento de nuestro país, que se ha reflejado en la expansión de nuestras ciudades y poblados urbanos con toda la carga de problemas que este proceso conlleva, la labor de las oficinas de arquitectura en el campo del espacio público, de la planificación urbana, de la arquitectura del paisaje, de la estética urbana y la búsqueda de la belleza y calidad de vida de sus habitantes debe ser una tarea prioritaria e ineludible. Esperamos avanzar juntos y seguirlo plasmando en nuestro Anuario.

With this fifth AOA Yearbook, a more comprehensive approach is consolidated in relation to that originally designed for our corporate publication. The compilation of works of the associates is supplemented by a summary of the management work developed by the AOA during the years 2010 and 2011, with its milestones, accomplishments and initiatives. This edition brings together more than 90 works, one for each associated office, freely chosen by their own authors, considering the most representative work of the period. This framework is a showcase that ensures associates an opportunity to show their work, simultaneously validating the association through the quality of the works presented, the variety of the fields addressed by our profession, and the preeminence of the architectural value compared to increasingly complex and interdisciplinary works. The Yearbook also reflects a particular circumstance, time or context: to go through the pages of its five editions is to go through the ups and downs of the construction activity in these years. The projects must be completed in order to be able to be published, so the compilation of works suffers in periods of low activity since not all of our associates have major works to display, and prefer not to publish. Conversely, in periods of boom there are many oeuvres to exhibit, but precisely by the excess of work, associates lack the time required to display a project properly. Therefore, the production of each yearbook can present certain difficulties, and we are only able to deliver high quality publications thanks to the generous collaboration of each office. As usual, and increasingly, this Yearbook covers a comprehensive register of current Chilean architecture. Therefore, in addition to showing a sample of how and what is being done by Chilean architects, it is also an important gateway for those international offices that require a counterpart in our country. This thus requires us –as Publications Area of the AOA– to develop a book on a par with the best international publications. Given the growth of our country, reflected in the expansion of our cities and towns –with all the burden of problems this process involves– the works of the architecture bureaus in the fields of public space, urban planning, landscape architecture, urban aesthetics and the quest for beauty and quality of life of its inhabitants, must be a priority task. We certainly expect to move forward together and to continue reflecting this in our yearbooks.
